Last game of the year for Eugenia. First full year of Quidditch, she thought, as she stepped up to line to mount her broom. No wins, just two bad losses; she only stayed conscious in the second one. She turned to her fellow first strings. “It will be a difficult game but we should still play full force.” It was Cloven’s last game and the time for the others’ last games came soon. Well, she still had time to come. She heard her captains speak and positioned herself. What could go wrong this time?

The final game of the year was upon us. Would Ravenclaw finish the year in victory or defeat? Depends who you asked. Jorah was just happy to play Quidditch. Maybe the real victory was the friends we made along the way. By extension, would that mean that the only real defeats are those we have lost? Jorah would ponder this as he mounted his broom. Swimming in the chaos of an excited pitched filled with cheering students ready for a demonstration of carnage, Jorah was an island of calm. He showed up and he was ready to play.

In the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself).
In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.
In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

Lavinia’s last quidditch game at Hogwarts had come. After 7 years on the team she finally had reached the point of playing her last match before graduation. It was extremely hard to think about saying goodbye, Lavinia had found a home on this team and had been able to foster one for fellow Ravenclaws. She committed practically all of her time outside school to being the best Chaser for her team and now it was time to show exactly where seven years of hard work and determination got Lavinia. This match marked the end of her quidditch career at Hogwarts before she took to dominating the professional leagues. The best way to end her Hogwarts career was with a win and Lavinia was certain they were going to beat Hufflepuff.

Walking onto the pitch, Lavinia’s eyes started to water. This was it. Emotions from all seven years of her matches started to come back to her. All of the fear of not being good enough, the optimistic confidence, the sorrow at being knocked out, the support for her teammates, and the joy of winning. Emotionally Lavinia wasn’t ready to submit to this being the end of her Hogwarts journey, but with the smell of the pitch filling her senses, she knew it was time to put everything out on the table.

Listening to Koko, a fellow seventh year quidditch player announce that it was Lavinia’s last game, she squared her shoulders and gave a massive grin for her team and the spectators. Turning to her team she said “We are going to win this game, we got this. I know that it is my last game and I am ready to go out with a bang, let’s give it everything we have. This is our moment and it has been a true honor to serve as your captain”. Wiping away the few tears that escaped, Lavinia thanked the members from both teams that wished her well on her final game and sent a huge smile up to Zach in the stands. It was so kind of everyone to help celebrate her as a player and a person. This was her moment and it was time to go.

Second-String Actions

The members of Team Hufflepuff and Team Ravenclaw that were seated were not sitting idly. Two young Hufflepuffs, Mamori and Callum, whispered to one another in hushed tones about what might be a good strategical option for the next round of the game. Sage and Landon, though, utilised their lung capacities to the best of their abilities, cheering for Tesla Stone, who would be able to hear their supportive cries all the way in the air.

Surprisingly, the on-ground strategising for Team Ravenclaw was not going as planned. Either Avis or Ophelia might have suggested something completely outlandish as to confuse the other; whatever the case, they were not getting anywhere. Andy and Aston, however, had no issue supporting Aly from afar; she would have no issue hearing them.

The Quaffle

Although as of late, the Quaffle had often been sorely neglected in Quidditch games, Lavinia and Winnie were truly going to live up to their reputations as formidable Chasers and try something new. Winnie swerved her broom in a manner that was probably distracting even to spectators, even more so to her fellow chasers. 'Whoa, is that... the Wollongong Shimmy!?'

Although her intriguing manoeuvre definitely threw off Lavinia and Jess, they both managed to snag the Quaffle. Lavinia went on to score with a rather interesting movement that caused the Quaffle to fly through the hoops even faster than many had likely seen before. 'And that's ten points, twenty points... but oh! What happened there? This is definitely shaping up to be interesting.'

Jess snatched the Quaffle after what had to be some serious bad vibes emanated from the Ravenclaw side of the pitch. Her score attempt was perfect. Every moment, practised to the point where it, by all metrics, should have gone through the hoops. Many spectators were on the edge of their seats, watching, except...

'And that was an insanely quick block from Miss Charlie Jacobsen! Wow!'

Lavinia wasn't nearly done. 'Thirty points! Forty points! Quite the impressive show.'

The Snitch

Something was definitely happening on the Ravenclaw side of the Pitch. Certainly, most of the spectators would expect the older, more experienced Ravenclaw Seeker to easily catch wind of the Snitch and start soaring after it — but that was not what occurred. Who knew what happened — certainly not the audience! — but whatever it was, Aly had no luck with the Snitch just yet.

That was not to say the same happened for Daphne. Quite the opposite, in fact. She would glance about the sky, and with hardly a moment of looking she would lock eyes with the Snitch. It was perhaps one of the quickest Snitch finds in a long while.

The Bludgers

The moment when the bludgers started to fly was always one of the most exciting moments of Quidditch, even if it could be gruesome. It seemed that some of the beaters also had some new moves to try out — Avery did their very best to intercept Jorah's mighty bludger, but their accuracy was off... way off. 'I'm sorry, McCall, but what was that?'

Suffice to say, Jorah's bludger went hurtling towards its intended target, Atlas. Like any experienced older player, she knew how to hold her ground, or her sky, whatever you'd like to call it, and perhaps Atlas knew better than most. But Jorah was experienced, too, and rather strong. The bludger slammed into her, and for a moment, it looked like she might fall. But somehow, like something out of a miracle, she held on for dear life, looking rather shaken in the aftermath. 'Wow! That is one resilient Keeper. But Moussa's not done!'

Indeed, the bludger was now hurtling towards Avery McCall, who had flown in its way just moments before. Perhaps the fact that Jorah had technically almost aimed a bludger at them earlier changed his trajectory, because something was off. So off, in fact, that the iron ball got sent at... 'LAVINIA!? But she's on your team? What the — What on earth!?'

The star Chaser of Ravenclaw was likely not expecting Jorah to send a bludger at her in such a rude way. The bludger came incredibly close, so close that some folks in the audience might very well have thought it hit her. She evaded at the last second, and it was so close she would have been able to feel the wind it generated. 'And she evades! That was definitely a close one. Good job, Cloven!'

Ebony was also out for blood. She swung her bat, and the bludger spun towards Avery. 'Ooooh, McCall again! Better watch out!'

Well, Avery did not watch out as well as they could have. They might not have even 'watched out' at all. The bludger hit them square-on, while they weren't even looking in its direction, but they did manage to hold onto their broom nonetheless.

Tesla, too, was hardly afraid to send a bludger at someone, but it seemed the very strange vibes from Ravenclaw were just a bit too unnerving. She readied herself to attack, and then she faltered, lowering her bat at just the wrong moment.

KOB Fouls

Although Ravenclaw's players had more or less been busy doing completely legal actions, the same could not be said for Hufflepuff's. However, it would prove fitting, as Atlas would get to have her revenge. She remained unseen as she looped back around towards Jorah, and, her blatch was true to form and then some. Perhaps she was fuelled by rage when she shoved Jorah off his broom and actually dealt some damage. But despite the excellent paragon of blatches that she performed, it would go unappreciated by all in the game and even the referee.

Camilla would not be so lucky. She flew towards Quinn Brook, but the Bad Vibes of Ravenclaw struck again. It was obvious what she'd been about to do, but for whatever reason, she faltered and did not execute the blatch.

'If you're going to blatch someone, at least follow through with it! I mean — what? Blatching, that's not allowed. Carter, penalty lap!'

After not being blatched, Quinn was more than able to catch Jorah on her own broom, saving him from being knocked out in the first round.

The boy grasped his nimbus very tightly because of him worrying! No need! Lavania Scored 40 points for Ravenclaw! With Ravenclaw being up by 40, Andy could just sit back and watch the game and not get sweaty for once, matter a fact, and was in such a good mood that he didn't care if he got a chance to play or not. After a couple of minutes, and examined his goaly gloves and nimbus, checking if nothing happened to it. The broom Andy just got was the nimbus 1700, a quick broom. Nothing can stop Andy on a broom like that!

Aly stared into the cloudy sky as the game kicked off, mentally cursing herself already. It was basically the perfect weather for a Quidditch game - not rainy, not bright, not anything that could have distracted her from the Snitch, and yet, that bedamned golden ball always just seemed to be at the corner of her vision, a phantom that vanished the moment she looked. Just beyond her reach, just like everything good.

But after a moment of feeling sorry for herself once more, the co-captain was pulled from her funk by shouts and cheers of her name from below. She looked down at the bench to find two of her younger, second-string teammates, Andy the Keeper and Aston the Beater, cheering her on. What kind young men the second-year boys were. Aly waved down to them, feeling a grin overtake her freckled face. "Thanks, you two!" she shouted, feeling bolstered by her teammates' enthusiasm (and by Lav scoring forty points already... always a good sign).

"Shit," she cussed under her breath as she saw Jorah get blatched, a shout of frustration when the foul went unnoticed. She supposed she shouldn't complain, given she had blatched plenty of times during her Quidditch career.

Simple stuff this time. No playing with the quaffle, no cheating, just plain save duty. She has Atlas and Daphne in mind, over the others. Atlas did get hit, really badly, but against all odds, she didn’t fall. Avery, their captain, got hit as well. At least she looked like she was in a better state than Atlas. The second strings cheered and strategized, something she silently supported. Daphne seemed like she has seen something, and Eugenia, with her eyes on the field, was ready for some more chaos.

Okay... So they weren't suffering a catastrophic loss yet. Sure, the Ravenclaws had scored a decent amount of points against them, but everyone was still holding on pretty well! Sage, still on the bench, did her best to boost morale during the first round, especially as a few of her teammates took brutal hits but remained on their brooms. She clapped and cheered. The Hufflepuff house could really use a win.
