Nah.... Nah... Hmm.
Red velvet cupcake. Casey would settle with that. Nothing else seemed to really catch his eye other than the glass of raspberry lemonade he poured himself just a few minutes before. He didn't mind a sugar fix every now and then, but his taste for sweet things was nowhere near on the same level as Emily's. He balanced the chocolate bun he spotted that he would take over to Emily shortly in the same hand as the glass. With the other he managed a glass of apple and elderflower juice for her.
"I hope you don't plan on eatin' dinner until way later, because some of this stuff looks kinda fillin'--"
He got one look at Emily's face and saw her staring tensely at something behind him. Casey noted the stiffness in her posture and how she secretively covered her hand. He eyed her quizzically.
"What's gotten you in a tizzy all of a sudden?"
He followed her line of sight and spotted a boy who was getting ready to leave the room. He narrowed his eyes, the dots slowly connecting.
"Ohh..." Upon his realisation, his expression hardened. He scanned his features, his attire, his face. Casey wasn't known for making quick friends, but he wasn't one to make quick enemies either. However, a quick once-over at the boy plaguing Emily's worries made him growl. Even from way across the other side of the room, Casey sensed something rotten about him. His expression soured. Very few could ruffle Casey's feathers like this, but Casey had an instant dislike for the boy.
He sat down, obscuring Emily's view of him and vice versa, handing her the snacks he picked out. It was doing nothing for her to blankly look at him and get worked up over it, he thought. He thought the same for the boy that terrified her. As far as he should be aware, so long as Casey was there, he wouldn't get close to her. Let alone look at her.
He took a chomp out of the cupcake he selected for himself, speaking with his mouth full. "So, that's him? The guy that got you to--"
He was stopped abruptly when Emily frantically gestured for him to shush. "Keep your voice down...!"
Casey chewed and rolled his eyes. He could tell it was more for the guilt and shame she still felt for letting the guy fool her like he did at the time, rather than Casey nearly spraying half his food out just to announce that the stranger was responsible for Emily's current predicament. In hindsight he could see his observation being somewhat shallow to remind her of when she was no doubt haunted by it right now.
He swallowed his food. "Look, it ain't gonna do you good acting afraid every time you see him. What's done is done. Fixin' it is all we can work on now. We might be stuck with him while we're here and I know he ain't supposed to be a "good" guy by any stretch of what you've told me... But let him be. Sooner or later, he'll get his comeuppance."
He smirked encouragingly. "You told me about karma once, right? Well if it truly comes for everyone, then he'll get his eventually. Good things come to those who wait, Em. I'm willin' to bet he'll soon be carryin' just as many curses on himself as he has advertently done to others. Includin' you." Which was the least of what that guy deserved, Casey said inwardly to himself. Emily would scold him if he said it out loud. She was hurt in a way Casey couldn't have imagined until she went and proved it to him, but she wasn't above seeking revenge or retribution. One of many things Casey respected about her.
He pushed her food closer to her. "Go on. Eat. If you're gonna get distracted by somethin' then let it be food, if anything."

Roleplaying as Hans Jenssen
“Were you always such a know-it-all?” That’s not the girl I got a crush on. Hans jabbed with butter smoothness as Astrid defined the word for him accompanied by a chuckle. Realising with mortification how he had almost allowed the tease to slip out he was thankful the conversation moved on quickly onto Astrid’s baking and soon enough onto Viktoriya as a tinge of sadness contrasted with the light mood in the air. How love moved like a river, always strong but more often than not in different currents. Quickly Hans said, though taking care not with any implications of indifference for he knew how much Astrid cared for her sister, “She sounds wonderful.”
Hans’ mouth tipped upwards at the reasoning his friend gave for her worries about safety. The bluntness and sass had always been such a shining quality of Astrid’s. “At least the house elves don’t seem to be going on strike, though to be honest, I won’t blame them if they do,” he jested.
“Oh,” Hans said, attempting to brush off how his heart rate had just shot up as the question was returned. Not usually one to falter over questions, this time would be no different, though the less oblivious might have noticed the slight dip between his words that marked him a liar. “Yes, well I was hoping to ask you actually. Would you be free for a picnic on the 14th? That gives us enough time to settle in tomorrow and maybe explore a bit around here.” Praying with all of the faith he never gave Jesus that the excuse, made up on the spot after realising how ridiculous it was to claim a invitation of friendliness and nothing more directly on Cupid’s day, would be enough to ward Astrid away from any thoughts possibly threatening to their friendship, he would rather enjoy a platonic relationship than none at all. He continued, with a faraway look in his eyes as his gaze wandered to the distant Pyrenees, imaginations of the day not to distant floating before his vision before they were exasperatedly swatted away, I was thinking somewhere above it all, a hill or something maybe.” Always hoping for the perfect chance to seize, when all else had passed him as if he was merely air the past few months, this was one opportunity he had no plans on letting up.

Roleplaying as Maria Constança Leung de Almeida from Mahoutokoro - Link to Encyclopedia
Maria expected Tone’s penchant for physical attention this time, and as comfortably as she could, she returned the hug. It lasted too long for her, but there wasn’t much she was going to do about changing her friend’s behavior. It was a lesson in being long-suffering. “I…am not used to French tea.” She said as she sat down beside Tone. “I prefer Chinese and Japanese teas. They are fresher…with less added flavors.”@Minnie Duke, @Tracey Bailey, @Kim Sato
Her voice trailed off. She wasn’t really sure how chatty she was going to be allowed to be in this group and then quietly listened to the conversations. Minnie was the next to greet her and she gave her a polite smile. “It’s nice to meet you Minnie. I hope you are enjoying your time in France. My cabin is really nice-“
Before she could get the rest of her sentence out, the dunderhead of a red head piped up and asked her roommate what cabin they were in. She nodded to Tracey who seemed to not understand who the simpleton was asking and Tracey gave the answer. “It is quite nice to have such a lovely roommate! I am glad I met you Tracey!” She said lightly as she poured her more tea.
A play started and Maria was completely engrossed in the theatrics. The drama, the witticisms. It was all spectacular! Oh and the tragedy! She even stopped drinking her tea and when the play had concluded she let out her bated breath. “That was really fun! I wonder what else will happen next!”

Geneviève was smiling excitedly as she and Alphonse walked back into the dining hall where the soft music had been replaced with the hustle and bustle of staff and what looked like performers setting up a spectacle for the students to view. This wasn't a new experience, being some thread of royalty, her father had expected her to be cultured in the Arts outside of simply music. She loved the theater and the story-telling that was told through movement and song, though she greatly preferred the ballet. She didn't love physical activity but ballet was one of the few sports that she actively worked hard in and she was supposed to be taking her en pointe test when school adjourned for the spring break.
She watched as the light of the Hall caused the fabric of her dress to shift from a powder blue color to more of a cornflower color. It was her favorite thing about the fabric of her dresses, the shift in colors depending on the lights. This gentle candle lighting was her favorite however, it always subdued the color and brought out the natural glow of her hair and skin. She thought it was a proper representation of her name as well, the whole ensemble together quite perfectly.
They took a seat to themselves and both of them looked around at the students from their respective schools. Her peers and classmates were holding themselves to a wonderfully high standard, happy to be free of the traditional silk garments that were the standard unit of the students in France. The murmur of languages intermingling between predominantly English as it was universal, was only just outweighed by French seeing as this was the host country. She couldn't help but prick up her ears towards the drama that was filtering through the French language but it wouldn't be polite to tune into this and ignore her accompanier. She would be nosy later. Once she had gathered her skirt to avoid the chair trapping her in the seat, Alphonse had gentlemanly pushed her chair in. Perhaps he had some form of etiquette training. Or maybe he was just a kind individual.
Having learned that her newfound partner for tea was technically from Castelobruxo, she had many questions. She had supposedly heard it was in a jungle and she wondered how it was to bear the burden of obscenely grotesque bugs. The only bugs she considered normal were butterflies and by default caterpillars. Would that be rude? She was just curious.
"Castelobruxo... Tell me about it? What talent of magic do you... do you- what are you good at?" She stopped as she struggled with the English word 'specialize.' She knew which word she was trying to use but it wouldn't anglicize correctly on her tongue. "I am talented with glamour charms. Charm work." she offered as she poured herself a cup of tea and looked around for a tray of ice. She was parched and slightly warm from the adventure outside. An iced green tea with a hint of peach juice sounded perfectly delectable.
A distraction from the stage stopped her from asking another question, this one specifically about the size of bugs. She covered her mouth in obscene shock as the play darkened and 'killed' everyone aboard the stage. She looked around the dining hall suspiciously and gently pulled her teacup closer to keep it safe.
"What kind of story is this?" Alphonse asked beside her as his voice found her ears. She pursed her lips in confusion and a semblance of annoyance.
"It is unusual. Not romantic at all even for tragedy no?" She mentioned as she stirred a small ounce or two of peach juice into her tea. She lifted it to her lips along with the saucer, as was proper, and took a sip. Delicious.

Aurélie couldn't believe that, for once, something exciting was happening, not at Hogwarts, not in London, but in Beauxbatons. That was her school. That was her home away from home. Or, well, her second home away from home, if she considered her grandparents house. But, anyways, the weeks leading up to the arrival of the other schools were a blur of excitement in the French girl's brain. She'd never been the biggest supporter of Valentine's Day, having never understood the whole motif of love that it presented, but she'd never say no to fun.
That being said, getting into the simple white dress that she'd chosen for the event was an absolute hassle. She hated the semi-stretchy, really uncomfortable fabric with all her being, but she really didn't want to look dressed down compared to everyone else... especially with who she was planning to meet at today's tea party. Okay, okay, Duval. Time to go, time to go! Don't want to be late, now.
Aurélie hurried out, easily following the sounds of a jolly good time to the tea party. She basked in the glory of it all. So many people, so many people, at her school. If this didn't prove that Beauxbatons was the best, this beautiful party, then she didn't know what ever would. She scanned the crowd, her eyes that which were usually looking for potential friends watched instead for a certain doe-eyed boy.
There, Peter! She walked up to him, conscious of her dress, of whatever words he was mumbling to himself. Through it all, Aurélie had a dazzling smile. "Peter! Happy almost Valentine's Day!"

Avis looked up just in time to catch Sabrina's wide eyes looking down at her hand. She tried to quickly jerk it down and away but Sabrina was faster, clasping her hand over Avis' in a way that was less attacking and more protective, as if she were hiding it from the other girls at the table. Avis almost rolled her eyes for a moment, after all, nothing like panicked movements to draw attention.
Thankfully, the other members of the table didn't seem to notice, as Avis exhaled slowly and shot a glare of annoyance at Sabrina, her eyes angry yet wide. Sabrina gave her hand a soft squeeze as if they were friends, trying to get her attention. Avis tried to avert her eyes. Again and again and again. But Sabrina kept catching her gaze, pulling it back. How did that even work?
"There are abraxans somewhere on the grounds. Wanna go see them?" Abraxans? What in holden's name were abraxans?
Avis was distracted enough by the new plant/animal/building/whatever it was that Sabrina had mentioned that she almost forgot the clear implications of the Ravenclaw's offer. Almost. Locking eyes with Sabrina, Avis gave a short, almost imperceptible shake of the head. She may enjoy the girl, but she wasn't about to go spilling the beans to her, especially if the beans included mistakes on Avis' part. No reason to give Sabrina a reason to stop being Avis' friend.
Aloud, Avis just smiled for the benefit of the other girl's at the table. "No thanks, I've seen abroxens before." Her accidentally misspeaking of the word may have given away the fact that Avis had indeed not seen Abraxans before, but she was counting on the sharp jerk she gave as she twisted her hand out of Sabrina's to keep the girl quiet.
Turning her attention as far away from Sabrina as she could, Avis turned to the rest of the table, forcing a very non-Avis smile on her face, and tried to say a very Avis-like thing - for some reason Sabrina seemed to know Avis better than Avis knew herself, which scared her. "I think this play is sort of lame. How about you guys? I mean, it's basically a rip-off Romeo and Juliet, and besides the whole meter thing Romeo and Juliet is pretty boring as well."

"Hiro," Ginyami spoke up from behind the younger Japanese student, his voice soft and his approach having been even softer. Instead of his usual robes or kimono, he was dressed in a Westernized, three-piece suit that was black with sage green embroidery of elegant, elaborate leaves on the edges of the sleeves, hem, and lapels. His vest beneath was the same sage green and his tie was silver. One thing that was considerably lacking, however, was his usual smile. Instead, he spoke softly and wore a melancholy expression.
Due to his quiet voice, he leaned down to speak into Hiro's ear so as to be heard over the din of other conversations and the play going on in the background. "...Do you have a minute to spare? If not...I can come back later." He glanced idly toward the other students sitting beside his Mahoutokoro schoolmate. "I wouldn't want to take you from an important conversation or company." He paused then, looking hesitant and especially fragile for a moment. "Unless, that is, you would rather me simply leave you be altogether without returning at a later time. If that were to be the case...I'm sure no one would blame you."
It was funny...he almost expected to see that Korean boy there...but evidently he wasn't. Perhaps Ginyami had gotten the wrong idea about him and Hiro after all.

There was a brief moment of what could be described as... uneasiness, as the seed of youthful insecurities decided to start taking root within her during the brief moment between her question and Harvey's answer. They weren't exactly friends, not exactly, they were more like acquaintances and the details of their first meeting were quite particular. A lot of strong words were exchanged during that encounter, some heated feelings too, but what remained engraved in her mind were the ideals exchanged and how the different perspectives had affected her.
So when the boy greeted her back, it came with a certain feeling of relief, "Thank you." She softly told him, before pulling out the chair and sitting down, placing her camera carefully on the table. As he gently introduced her to the others present, Meyra nodded politely, memorising their names and taking a closer look at their appearance. "Nice to meet you." She declared to them, before turning to Harvey and reply to his question, "Well...yes." She started with a smile, "This place has been worth getting to know so far. So many beautiful places. So different from Hogwarts isn't it? Not that I have a preference, it just...feels different." She finished with a casual shrug. "And you? Do you like it here? Or are you finding yourself to have preferred to stay in Scotland?" She asked back, as she poured herself a cup of hot, aromatic tea.
As words continued to be exchanged between them, Meyra had the opportunity to learn a little more about her colleagues. Linda seemed like the calm and silent type, and Meyra could relate to her older classmate, or maybe it was just a first impression of her. Aamon, however, seemed more inclined to indulge in a conversation. "What's wrong in being here just to appreciate this rare opportunity? I don't think it's boring at all." She stated calmly while taking a sip from her tea. But it was Harvey's response that made her raise her eyebrows at him in question, "What's on your mind for fun?" She asked with curiosity. So far, she has had a lot of fun taking pictures of every detail she finds interesting, but she was not sure he would share her passion for photography.
Aamon's wide smile also told her that he wouldn't be sharing it either and his words that followed confirmed it. While he started off well, with Mey enjoyably agreeing with what he was saying, he eventually ended up revealing his more chaotic nature. It took a lot of effort on her part not to roll her eyes when she knew his intention was to prank his roommates. Obviously that was his idea of fun, "Typical of boys..." She thought, continuing to drink her tea, hiding her displeasure behind her porcelain cup, but not failing to notice the provocation behind his last words. However, they seemed to have the right effect on Harvey, as the other boy showed interest in learning more details about his endeavour to have fun.
It was then that the loud sound of a trumpet invaded the space, almost making her drop her cup when she jolted with the small scare. She managed to keep holding the cup but unfortunately some of the hot liquid spilled onto her hand. "Ouch!" She mumbled as the hot liquid caused a small burn, lifting her finger between her lips to soothe the sensation while turning on her chair to see the source of such commotion.
The play turned out to be a pleasant surprise, Meyra enjoyed going to the theater with her parents and couldn't remember the last time they spent such a pleasant time together. The play in question turned out to be a tragic romance story and, to be honest, it seemed perfect for the occasion. "Oh, that was pretty nice wasn't it?" She asked her colleagues. Her green-amber eyes scanning the people nearby and those at the next table, to see what their expressions could tell her about their thoughts on this unexpected surprise.

Seeing the slight irritation and defeat in Mamori's face brought her a sense of schadenfreude, especially when the pink-haired badger settled beside her. It meant she won the round; if only Mamori had known the solution in order to drive her away for good, he would have been successful. Aurelia Valentine is an assertive girl; she prefers everything to be in control, and she has a remarkable sense of self-awareness, which led her to realise at such a young age that she has to be the puppeteer in every situation she engages in if she intends to control it behind the scenes, to let it flow into her specific preferences, manageable and almost tangible in her nimble fingers. The raven-haired badger could be introverted and exceptional in introspection and could be crippled with anxiety. However, she is willing to manipulate circumstances into her liking in order to be comfortable. This immense thirst for comfortability and sense of normality fuelled her to dominate the other person involved. All it takes is a flip of a table, the imaginary stream creating a path in another direction she did not anticipate, another assertion that will catch her off guard, and she is gone, as her survivability depended on the expectation that everything is under her control. She strikes everyone as odd in her former schools, even the adults and the teachers. It is because she did not act like a child and technically guided herself on her own without a harness from her mother. This instantaneous independence did not contribute childishness. It will all chase her someday; the wisdom in her early years will regress—unbeknownst to her—and eventually will create a version born from maturity to whimsy, regret, and forever searching for lost childhood. But we do not talk about that. In the meantime, watching Mamori put food on his plate made Aurelia the most relieved girl Beauxbâtons Academy of Magic had ever witnessed and seen. Her deep brown eyes scoured the dining chamber, appreciating the elegant dresses the other girls sported for the current event. Colours merged together as the guests engaged with one another, perhaps appeasing or condescending; she did not know. It is the wonder, the mysterious, that drives her to enjoy observation as her brilliant mind conjures possible scenarios that possibly went down in a particular conversation. This group could be idly talking, perhaps about desserts, subjects that she did not find inherently interesting. This other group could be discussing the wizarding and muggle politics, or both and combined, as they are both relevant to assess. This one could be gushing about someone's love story, whispering together and giggling, recollecting the memories, or imagining what could ensue on Valentine's Day. All in all, we are all leading different lives. Enjoying the smell of her citrussy tea, Aurelia lifted her gaze when Mamori decided to break the silence. The young badger lifted an eyebrow, mostly in inquisition, as his voice stopped dead in the middle of his sentence as though contemplating his words. Letting him gather his thoughts, she took a sip and let out a sigh similar to euphoria. It was like she never left; Mamori had noticed it too and started to comment after the fact. Oh, this boy. He has not even noticed that she is an animal of the mundane, typical, and familiar, which gave her an immense urge to roll her eyes. But of course, she contemplated the suggestion, as he is right. Aurelia came along in order to see other wizarding schools, an opportunity that arose for her to compare. Beauxbâtons offered her this and more. It is her obligation to maximise the kindness of the elegant school kindly and graciously proffered. He is not done, of course, urging her to try something new. From an outside perspective, Aurelia looked like a lost child, in a beautiful dress but slouched, her expression unreadable as the boy beside her advertised the French confectionery prepared on their circular table. It is a jump into another stepping stone, trying something completely different from what she resided on, in which she decided she'd settle on for the rest of her mundane life. Her eyes slightly widened when Mamori offered an éclair from his plate, and the first thing that came to mind and was blurted out without so much as assessing it in different departments of her brain—if it is proper to be laid out there—is, “Did you even wash your hands?” actively grabbing it from his fingers before the pink-haired badger could even protest on how rude that response was. “I hate éclairs,” Aurelia informed, meeting his emerald eyes before slowly turning the éclair in her line of sight. The flavour is clearly chocolate, a classic. “Mum bought a fish-flavoured éclair before. I dislike the taste of fish, most of all.” The raven-haired badger squinted her eyes slightly as though searching for a tiny bit of fish lodged in the dessert. When all was clear, she popped it in her mouth. As expected, it's overly sweet, the taste of the dark chocolate attempting to dampen it down with its slight bitterness. One can see the sparkle in her deep brown eyes; however, she chose to keep her mouth closed, as she knew that once she admitted that he was not wrong, one might say that Mamori was actively influencing her beliefs and the way she did things. Her eyes went to the desserts he pointed to. The dessert he was referring to, which he called shell-shaped whatever-its-name, is originally called madeleines. “Oh, those are madeleines,” she replied, her voice soft and filled with affection. How come she failed to notice? The prioritisation of routines, of course, clearly distracted her from the fact. She loved anything citrussy and with hints of fruits. Hopeful that these certain madeleines consisted of lemon rinds, she put some on Mamori's plate and then hers. “The British also have their own variation of madeleines. But I believe it is only because of—” Her sentence was cut short as soon as the sound of a trumpet reverberated against the confines of the walls in the dining chamber, making her slightly wince. She rolled her eyes when Mamori shushed her, watching as the candyfloss boy put a finger over his mouth as though she was interrupting whatever commotion is currently happening on the makeshift stage that is built in the middle. People streamed in the makeshift stage, a number of them holding certain scene paintings, like the Eiffel Tower, located in Paris, France. The play eventually commenced. The people watching are, of course, hooked; Aurelia watched it with extreme precision, eyebrows raised, an extensive opinion already formulating in her brilliant mind. A French potioneer, who figured he had nothing better to do in his sorry life, dealt with his heartbreak by selfishly drugging aristocrats that innocently attended a noblewoman's soirée as a means to search for love, as it indicated his desperation for it. Her delicate face eventually crumpled as the story progressed, rising to falling and to climax—thankfully. The play is inherently torturous. Letting out a huff born from extreme haughtiness, Aurelia whirled her head back to the table, her unruly curls smacking poor Mamori's face once more. Her deep brown eyes scanned the faces of the other guests, assessing their reaction to the aforementioned play. Some of them are whispering and their heads are leaning together. She took a sip from her prepared tea, enjoying the warmth it provided as Mamori shared his sentiments about the matter at hand. He shared how the guests that only attended the said soirée got the worst deal of them all, more than Antoine Marchand himself, who met his perilous death by random assassins that came out of nowhere. She seconded his opinion, as imagine being part of the collateral damage that is selfishly created by a person who is crippled with immense desperation to be loved? Ridiculous, honestly. “I cannot even begin to express my disappointment with this play,” Aurelia started, popping a madeleine in her mouth; something to be grateful about today is the zestiness of the lemon in these madeleines is, indeed, godly. It would have been better for everyone if the young badger chose to internalise her opinion on the play. However, she already compartmentalises all of them, and this charge is only aimed at the victim sitting beside her, with pink hair and emerald eyes, Mamori Anezaki. “First of all, wasn't he a potioneer? This job must be immensely difficult to attain and perhaps licensed. His act of contaminating others' drinks and foods should be regarded as a crime; if he survived, he would have been arrested and his license revoked, so death was more like a light ending. Second, I do not understand the randomness with the intrusion of the said hired assassins; the coincidence works for the intended tragedy genre of the play—although I get it, this is only a story where fiction defies everything. What I mean is, they should have clearly specified the reason for what and why. In all honesty, bravery is, of course, commendable. However, one should separate bravery from outright foolishness. He was aware that he was only a novice in terms of wielding a sword; he should have fled and hoped for the best. I also have a question—why a sword? Antoine was a potioneer, and potions cannot be brewed without a little bit of magic; that meant he had a wand. He should have hexed the assassins into oblivion. Unless the aristocrats are completely useless like they were back then, utilising a wand to defend themselves should not have been impossible. Except, of course, if they were all Muggles, then utilisation of a wand would be breaking the code for the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy... Don't you think that this desire to be loved by not one but almost everyone could be considered a sick form of perversion? I do not pity the aristocrats, but I pity Antoine Marchand for the complete lack of critical thinking, and also Clara Thornhill, the most. The bravery Antoine demonstrated might have been admirable in her book, but it should not be her obligation to provide the man a peaceful death by professing love that should not have been nurtured instantaneously...” |
