nevergonnagiveyouup𝔭rat found it endearing how she seemed to struggle to get the words out. She always seemed so composed yet got so flustered around him. He wondered, feeling a bit of pride in his chest knowing he could affect her this way. Moving towards the middle of great hall, Prat was a mix of excitement and nerves. Alex had probably been receiving dancing lessons since she was a child, well a younger child than she was now, he knew she’d be graceful on the dance floor.
She flashed him that grin and said, "Well, c'mon then. Let's dance," Prat felt a little feeling, a tingle in his chest as duo began to move. Each step they took, his already inflated ego and confident building in their skill and synchronization they were showing together. As Prat and Alex danced across the floor, he couldn't help but marvel at how effortlessly they worked together. She matched with perfect grace every step he took, to him it seemed as if they had been dancing together forever, the way both of them seemed to intuitively understand each other’s movements.
She makes this so easy, Prat told himself as he feelt a sense of calm wash over him. His hectic life schedule was fading into the background as they twirled and swayed to the music together. For this evening, he had no duels to fight, no pressures to contend, not burden to carry. Just the simple joy of a friend's company who looked like she enjoyed his company as much as he did hers. "This is nice", he thought. "We should do this more often." Prat told Alex while they danced. He decided to squeeze her hand gently, his intention to let her know he appreciated this moment. As the song came to a gentle stop, Prat smiled at Alex. “That was great, amazing even,” he said, this time maybe genuinely meaning it as he still kept holding her hand.
He hesitated for a moment, wondering if Alex shared her love for the food before continuing with his question, “By the way, have you tried the food yet? There are some great selections tonight, albeit there are some bad choices here too.”
Prat grinned as he lead her towards the elegantly set tables.“I have a few favorites I think you’ll like. Let me show you.”, excitement bursting out of his face as he took Alex with him. They walked together as Prat felt a sense of happiness and contentment. It was rare for him to find moments where he could escape the pressures of his busy life and the nature of his birth. Upon reaching the tables, he started with pointing out a few dishes he had previously sampled.
“This one here,” he said, gesturing to one of his top picks of the evening, “is absolutely delicious. And those mini quiches over there? to die for.” He continued as he shared his brief thoughts on each one.
While sampling the last of their desserts, Prat looked at Alex , “Thanks for the dance, Alex." He told her, while whispering outside her earshot"And for the company. It’s been a great night.”

The way he spoke to her was disgusting. Why wasn't she doing anything? Matt wouldn't think twice about trying to manipulate her if she spoke back. However, there was probably a reason for all this. Winnie was probably scared of the implications it brought, which was quite daunting for any girl. What she needed was a helping hand, and when she decided to take it was going to be a whole other story.
As expected, the ginger prat had more to say. This time it wasn't about him, but instead regarding the lady who once stood with him. Matt was referencing his former love with San, a girl who he thought was the one until her unexpected departure back to France. The mention of such a thing always struck a cord, yet he wasn't going to let it show in his emotionless expression "She has moved onto better things, compared to you I'm proud of her for it" which was the truth. Santario was happier now, and that's all that mattered to him.
Smirking slightly, Matt seemed to make a small mistake. Percival had already met Winnie's parents on the farm, a very productive day, to say the least, "Who says I already haven't already?" Gray questioned with a wag of his finger "I took the liberty of taking a trip down to the cottage during the summer and introduced myself to Miss Harper. Me and Winnie's mom talked for a while that day, and the funny thing is, she never mentioned you visiting their home once..." Gray explained with a shake of his head "As far as I'm concerned, you haven't even spoken to them"
Mathias and his mannerisms were annoying, he always looked so confident and snarky. However, Gray knew in that mind of his there was a fragile ego waiting to be broken. He just needed to find out what pushed his buttons "I don't care what side I'm on as long as it's right" Gray muttered with a look towards the distressed Winnie. He didn't if it was right or wrong, saving Winnie from this creep was all that mattered, even if she still wanted to kiss him.
The whole thing visibly made him cringe, especially when he was preparing to kiss her in front of his eyes. Preparing for the worst, something rather unexpected happened. Without Gray's knowledge, Cormac nonchalantly jumped off his shoulder and strolled to the lovebirds with a flick of his tail. The feline gently brushed past Winnie, but when he came to Matt he had different intentions. Sniffing around his foot curiously at first, Cormac finally settled on a place and slowly turned around to finalise his business.
Matt probably couldn't feel anything at first, but after a few seconds, he'd start to the cat sit down on his feet like he was about to do something unsanitary...

__◇ Thoughts: Italic Mentions: @Minnie Duke ◇__ ⌞ ⌟⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤This, was the very first time Clément Cantegrel set foot in Hogwarts. He hadn't participated in anything before - if it wasn't for Lucy, he might not have come here at all. Speaking of which, among the crazy amount of people around him, he might not be able to find her.
Entering through the great oak front doors into the Great Hall, the French boy was amazed by the grandeur and decor all around. C'est toujours comme ça, à Poudlard? It's always like this, at Hogwarts? he thought to himself, eagerly. If it was, he might as well concentrate more on his English lessons and come study here instead...
He then approached the tables, where plates of delicious food and snacks were deposited. What they were, he had absolutely no idea, but what he did know, was that all he wanted to do now was to devour everything. No, in fact, he wasn't very hungry at the moment, but he had never ever witnessed a wide amount of food at his disposition. At the random, he picked a few good looking treats and stuffed them into his mouth.
"Mmm... ça vaut la peine de venir juste pour la bouffe!" Mmm... worth it to come just for the food! Clément was about to eat some more but only just remembered that he had Lucy to find among the big crowd of students.
Detaching his eyes from the tables of food, he stood on tip toe to look for his friend. Brown hair girl, brown hair girl... Very unfortunate for Clément, there were many brown hair girls at Hogwarts apart from Lucy Hills. Suddenly, he spotted her, just there!
He squeezed into the crowd, making his way towards the Ilvermorny student... When he finally got there, he greeted her with a, "Coucou Lucy, je t'ai enfin trouvé!" Hey Lucy, I've found you, at last!⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤◇ Action: Entering ball ◇

MODERATION ROUND 4
Perhaps this teenage girl was so oddly fond of snakes that she did not see venomous viper as a threat. Or perhaps she was simply too in shock to make a move defending herself as the snake slithered towards her. @Winnie Harper would find the creature clinging onto her ankle, interrupting the romantic kiss she shared with @Mathias Pride, who seemed unbothered enough to make a move at the reptile - aka definitely not fiancé material. Their friend, @Percival Gray seemed not to have noticed the animal as it made its way towards them, a snake just as cunning as the red-haired manipulator. Like most asp vipers, the first bite, came dry and defensive, a clamp down onto the victim's flesh but not one that delivered venom. However, pain refused to be avoided. Today was most certainly the Ravenclaw's lucky day.
Aside from the animal attack, the rest of the ball seemed to be more or less in order, the usual action one would see at a social gathering. Despite the chaos festering around them, some attendees have chosen to dance or mingle while others, grim faced, still sat at tables as they conspired. Did they favour vipers as much as the white-clad lass?

She hadn't quite realized just how quickly she had fallen back to past tendencies until the announcement of the poem faded and the sudden tension that had exploded in the hall when the lights had gone out started to ebb. Greta's view of the room as eyes adjusted to the moonlight filtering down from the enchanted ceiling was half obscured by jacket. Only in the absence of any real threat did she become acutely aware of the warmth emanating from Felix's body, or the way she had subconsciously latched onto him for protection. Seafoam eyes fluttered to peer bashfully up at him, a sheepish grin shadowed by a fresh flood of rosey embarrassment--made all the worse by the topic of the poem.Open to Interaction
She bobbed along with his translation, not really certain what to make of it. Not at first, anyway. How was one supposed to wait without hope? Wasn't hope the only thing that made the waiting--whatever it was for--bearable? Trying to imagine what it would feel like to wait hopelessly felt an awful lot like despair, or some sort of exercise in self-punishment. Like waiting at the edge of the forest with a leash and treat for a pet you knew was never going to come back, yet you went there anyway. Was that what the poem was saying? To learn to accept what was gone? Was the wrong hope the hope that they would come back? Was the right hope that they would find peace wherever they soul had taken them now? Was love in hope selfish? A love for the one that had been lost, and the hope that you would get to enjoy their presence once more? Was that the love of the wrong thing? Was, then, faith and the love in the waiting to be with them once again when your own time came?
She wasn't certain when the tears had started flowing, but something about the poem flung her back to Hogsmeade and their arrival. Of the echo of the distant explosion and the flames and chaos when they had crested the edge of the scene to see what had happened. Felix reassured her in the moment, alleviating any concern about the shift of atmosphere in the hall. She tried to smile, tried to let the translation roll off her shoulders, but all she could do was nod in melancholy. Her chin quivered trying to keep from losing control at the thought of the news of their headmistress and all the peers whose faces would no longer be seen smiling in Durmstrang's halls in passing. But the more she tried to stem the flow, the more it seemed to spill over.
How grateful she was in that moment, that the lights had been dimmed and his jacket blocked her face from sight. Palms lifted to press against her eyes, body trembling with the effort not to cry. Why now? Why here? This was supposed to be a happy time. She was supposed to be having a good time. Felix had gone out of his way to dress up and to take her to the gala and to dance with her and here she was being completely ungrateful for his efforts. Her mother would never have crumbled like this. In fact, Greta was certain 'an embarrassment' is how her mother would coin the present moment had she been there now to see it.
"I'm sorry..." Greta croaked, palms lifting to hide her face, pressing into her sockets in some sort of effort to dam the emotions. "You're right, you're right," she whispered, shaking her head to rid her mind of the negativity. Can't let them know they've got us on edge... "Um.." She sniffled at his question to keep dancing, not really sure if she was up for it or not. She wouldn't get the chance to answer properly, though, before she was jostled into distraction by someone bumping into them. Panicked at the prospect of being seen teary-eyed, she hastily wiped at her face before extracting herself from the leather coat panel.
Since maturity had altered what may have been a familiar voice, it took Greta a moment to place the face, confusion successfully veiling the grief of moments earlier. Eventually, memory sifted back to early days at Hogwarts and an abandoned classroom where she'd found a lone boy trying to learn how to dance. The two of them had spent a good part of the day there following introductions, Greta sharing what her mother had imparted upon her. For the life of her, though, she couldn't remember his name. It had been so long ago. A smile somewhere between guilty and delighted creased her features nevertheless.
"It's nice to see you too!" she chimed, her speech a bit pressured with her desire to come across friendly and divert attention away from waterworks. "Oh!" Embarrassed laughter spilled forward with the unexpected flattery. Fingers plucked restlessly at the fringe of her dress as she replied, "You look very beautiful too." She couldn't remember the word 'handsome'.
With introductions underway, Greta tucked a strand of hair behind her ear before offering a shy wave to Illowy. "It's nice to meet you," she offered. Her accent was still thick with her native Norwegian inflection, but it would be impossible for Aaron not to note the dramatic improvement to her English. "He's just being nice," Greta grinned. "I only helped a little." Following his lead, the Norwegian gestured to Felix, glancing up at him with a warm smile as she did. "This is Felix. He is also a student of Durmstrang like me. But speaks British-" she paused. "English," she corrected herself, "much more better than me."
"Um," Greta wasn't sure how to respond to Aaron's asking her to dance, though was incredibly relieved that he'd ended up sharing his name so at least she wouldn't have to dance around being unable to remember it. At least the recent pureblood refreshers her mother had given her for the the summer fest at the luncheon would have helped with that. A flush of warmth crept up to her cheeks, drying up the last of any lingering sorrow. She had never been in this sort of situation before, and truth be told, had never really mingled with many people outside of Durmstrang. Especially in recent years. "I am okay with this," she directed to Aaron, before glancing to Felix, uncertain if he would be. Her gaze turned all the more questioning when she felt his grip on her tighten, but without verbal protest, she took it to mean reassurance that it was alright with him. Offering him a warm smile in return, she stepped towards Aaron, promising Felix, "I'll come find you after?"

It was yet another ball for Reyna. And this time she was here for absolutely no reason at all. Okay maybe not no reason but still. She had no one here for her except for the hopes that the person that she had met last year was here. Botan. Ever since that day she still remembered him. He had invited her to go into the ball with him. And then they had gotten caught up in a bunch of other stuff.
But they had gotten to know each other, but just hadn't interacted since. So she hoped that he would be here. This was why, she was here as well, wandering the room, watching a fifth year propose to another fifth year. A Ravenclaw from what she remembered. Couldn't quite remember the name though.
And then many things happened at once. A fox stole a ring, a snake bit the girl. And some wind almost knocked her off her feet. At least it wasn't well, last time. Good lord she didn't want to even think about the last ball.
She saw Tesla and other friends of hers here. She saw Emily, someone who she had recently met and many other friends. Yet, she stayed in the little corner, hoping she could find the someone who she wanted. They were supposed to meet, even though it had never formally been written. Plans could change though. She just hoped that they wouldn't.
What luck would she get? Would she be lucky enough to spot him? Or was this day just worthless all in all? She would have to wait and see.
She prayed. Please let me spot him. We agreed to meet again. Please let him remember me. Please.

Winnie's face paled as Mathias' words slowly sank in. Children. He had said children, as in the plural. It was possible that he was just saying this in front of Eve and Percival to try and wind them up and lash out, but the biggest reaction would be from the Ravenclaw who couldn't hide the tremble that ran through her body. "... Our... C-Children?" She whispered back, unable to mask the fear that crossed her features. She could push away everyone she loved to protect them, but how she was going to fight back with children added to the mix? Why would he want kids anyways? For more control, of course. It was always about controlling her.
There it was; her entire life laid out before her. Promises of being pampered, an easy life, all she had to do was marry him and pop out several children. Merlin, it sounded like she was going to be more of a kept pet than a beloved wife. You’ll have everything you could ever want. It may have been lined with velvet, but a cage was still a cage.
Percival and Mathias were busy exchanging words in front of her, but she couldn't focus. Her mind was hyper fixated on the Slytherin's words. Mother to a brood of our kind. Her chest begin to rise and fall as she took in shallow breaths, each sharper than the last. Her hand reached up to press against her upper chest. "I can't... I can't breathe." She gasped. She felt too warm, the room felt too small, and she could feel her pulse thundering inside of her ears.
His words taunted her, as did the condescending tone he had tried to mask with concern. He spoke about their future as if it were set in stone, as if he could snuff out every single dream or independent thought. Because he had done it before, and he could do it again.
At the very least she had managed to avoid spending alone time (and whatever unspeakable horrors he had meant by that comment) with Mathias through her demand for a kiss. It was a distraction that usually worked well enough, as far as Winnie knew.
A familiar feeling settled into her stomach. She'd lost count of the amount of times they'd kiss; three and a half years worth. So, it was easy to fall into a familiar rhythm, despite her brain screaming at her to run. As the kiss lingered on, too long, and her silent anger shimmered-- Until she felt something sliding around her leg, followed by a sharp pain that shot up her leg like an electric current. She gasped in shock, and with a startled flinch her teeth clenched down on Mathias' bottom lip (I'll leave how hard she bit him up to Mathias' writer, or he can just simply dodge, their call). "Ah! Ow! OW! S-Something is biting me!" She cried.
Her heels would betray her as she stumbled backwards. No amount of practice had prepared her for fighting off snakes in heels. Her arms flailing as she tried to catch her balance, the moment she steadied herself she'd try to grab the reptile fiend still attached to her leg. Blinking in surprise at the slithering creature, she couldn't stop her frustrated shout, "Who-- owns this snake-- wait-- WHO BRINGS A SNAKE TO A BALL? O-OW! No! That hurts, please stop!!!"
She was still struggling to gently extract the snake from her leg, unwilling to harm the creature in the process. She did, however, take a moment to scold it."Bad! Very bad boy!" Or girl, she wasn't sure of the gender.

INTERACTIONS Mathias, Winnie, Percival, AJ | MENTIONING Hanako
───•─•────────────────────────────────────•─•───
On Evelynn's initial arrival, it had merely been the newly engaged couple. Hers had been a polite interjection, complete with congratulations and, yes, a veneer of outward pleasantry that veiled her internal consternation. For the sake of @Winnie Harper, however, she had kept any contempt or bitterness in check, her slew of questions as much prompted by curiosity as they were veiled attempts to veer the situation into a longer timeline. Her palm had gently come to rest over Winnie's hand, acutely aware of how heavily the underclassman leaned into her on her arrival, making evident that this show had been neither her plan, nor expected.
She remained largely quiet as the two 'lovebirds' replied, filing away bits of information for later, such as the fact that Mathias had yet to even meet her family, the alleged impossibility of obtaining her father's blessing--why?--and @Mathias Pride's suggestion that they wouldn't have to worry about O.W.L.s or career planning. It wasn't until the pair split off to argue about Winnie's career plans that it dawned that he had no intention of allowing her the independence of her own career. If he had it his way, she would be a trophy wife and stay-at-home mother, no doubt strong-armed into charities or event-planning on behalf of the Pride family, but otherwise kept under his thumb. Her own thumb had brushed reassuringly over the back of Winnie's hand during that exchange.
The gesture would cease prematurely as Pride slipped an arm around Winnie, pulling her back to him and away from Evelynn, forcing physical distance between the strawberry princess and those upon whom she would choose to lean. Evelynn offered no resistance in the moment, responding simply, "Of course I will be there to support her, when she needs it and when she is capable of standing on her own. Whatever her desires might be." In fact, he would find it difficult to dispense of her at all. While she had yet to broach the subject formally with Winnie, she was all but certain of a familial link between the two. This new development would likely prove to be the catalyst needed to finally tackle that conversation.
It was from that point that chaos would erupt and the flow of time and events would seem to blur into a confusing span of time the likes of which would have a different perspective and timeline by every participant involved.
@Hanako Tone arrived first, his outburst drawing a genuine look of surprise from Evelynn. Brows lofted, lips remaining sealed as she watched the drama of apparent taboo love unfold before her. Much like he had in the Quidditch stands during one of the games when he'd kissed a boy for the sake of messing with him, Pride played into the farce. Evelynn didn't believe the reality of the alleged relationship for a second, but neither could she really fathom why he would bother playing into it. Perhaps because Winnie had tried to smooth it over as a joke? Perhaps to throw Tone off? Perhaps to get the school talking about him in a 'bad press is better than no press' sort of way? Or perhaps simply because he could?
"What's going on here?"
The first sign of real contempt from Evelynn only arrived when Grey did. Eyes narrowed, hand lifting to rest knuckles along her jaw. It would be clear to anyone that there was no love lost between the two of them. She offered little more than a forced smile that didn't reach her eyes as he and Winnie greeted each other. Nevertheless, she kept any ill thoughts to herself. At least she would have, were it not for the final comment directed at her.
"Well, I had no intention of saying anything at all to you," she clipped flatly, entirely unamused by his derogatory greeting. "But with that attitude, I am surprised you did not get lost in the dungeons on your way here, for how far you are looking down your nose."
With that, she would find herself officially on the outskirts of the conversation, sequestered to watch with growing interest as the two young men exchanged proverbial blows. If it hadn't been clear before, it certainly was now: feelings were brewing between Grey and Winnie, and by the way she would eventually cling to his arm, it was unmistakably mutual. Her eyes narrowed slightly with lidded disapproval. If there was one thing that sat well with her not at all, it was hypocrisy. Except in herself, naturally. Did he even know she wasn't pureblood? He'd have to, no? If he'd been to visit her family?
...Gods, had @Percival Grey really been to visit her family? He actually had more grounds to propose than Pride. Of the two options, Evelynn might even have preferred it. That notion was enough to make her vomit internally...
The conversation continued, verbal lunge followed by parry and riposte. It might even have been interesting to watch if the two combatants weren't among the school's most bigoted and self-important students. Although there was something satisfying about them taking figurative chunks out of each other. Especially in the way that Grey's very existence seemed enough to occasionally crack Pride's veneer of control...
"Hievsoosurrehamleetahdbohyehfloorsanallbehsummnhappntooemanahfellahdtehgehyehnoofloorsbehettoolungerthaahthooetwoodanyooloorullyneeceteneeght..."
Evelynn's attention was ripped from the peacocking spectacle by the arrival--finally--of the only individual in the school with the capability of uttering such incoherent nonsense. Now, the lioness--having attended classes and been sequestered to the same dorm and house table as the Scot for the past five going on six years--liked to pride herself in being one of the few who could actually understand the mouth noises that @Allister-Jameson MacAllister tried to pass as speech. Lately, she even managed to do so with relatively little brain-power expended in translationary efforts. In this moment, however, not even her brilliance could decipher whatever the seven hells he had just said.
She blinked at him, her pristine visage piercing him with a look that was equal parts 'I beg your pardon' and 'have you finally gone mad'. Her head inclined, brow lofting, as her gaze wandered to take in his appearance. The white shirt and black pants were almost fetching in a minimalistic sort of way. The brown coat added a touch of intrigue, giving him a detective sort of vibe. The sheen to his hair even suggested that he had made some sort of attempt--never mind successful or otherwise--to tame the mop atop his hair. But the loose red tie around his neck, dangling like a limp snake, had her wondering if he was trying for an understated careless look, or if he had found himself on the wrong end of a grumpy troll. Or maybe he just didn't know how to tie a tie...
Her lips crimped, the expression she plastered him with next one that looked eerily similar to the sort one might give a lost puppy stuck out in the rain. "I thought perhaps you may have changed your mind.." Pivoting away from the scene of chaos, she stepped to slowly close the distance. As he spoke, bemusement increasingly creased her features, brows furrowing skeptically. "Thank you..." It was almost questioning. "Why are you talking like that?" Eyes trailed his hand as they pulled out a single white lily. "That is not to say... I mean... yes... I do like lilies." She smiled. "Thank you." Hands lifted to his his shoulders, the Gryffindor rocking to lift her heels from the floor in order to brush her lips on his cheek.
She wouldn't collect the flower right away, though, instead allowing her palms to slide to his collar, fingers working to pop it up and deftly adjust his button. "You really do not need to speak like that, though..." They pulled the tie free, then, methodically working the fabric into a proper double windsor knot before folding down the collar, and rotating it into center position. "The only in-character acting is for the game of murder..." Her hand slid down his chest, smoothing the tie against his chest before taking a step back. "You should just be yourself? For my sake..?" She plucked the flower from his grip and brought it to her nose, twirling it between her fingers as she did.
"Did you want to get something to eat before the game?"

Gem was annoyed. He was late, he didn’t have a date, and the hall would be packed with seniors attending the ball. But on the other hand, he had managed to put together a good costume, and a few basic moves in case he was lucky enough to be invited to be someone’s dance partner.
He had originally considered going with the detective look, but decided it too generic and not comfortable at all. He instead had dug around in his trunk to retrieve his well worn, thin leather jacket, putting it on over a simple, carelessly donned white button-down shirt and partially undone tie. A fedora hat, a pair of black jeans and soft, brown leather boots completed the look, and he made a mental note to keep this outfit after the ball.
He wandered around for a moment, partially regretting not planning more in advance, but he eventually drifted over to one of the food tables, picking up a plate and taking up his character: slouched posture, hat down and a bored look, as if waiting for something to happen that he hasn’t seen before. Which was partially true, but he was really more excited than he would ever let on about anything under any circumstances.
