Surprisingly Reyna was untouched so far. She had no bruises and nothing, just a ton of determination. She was up ahead which was good except for Minnie who was a little ahead of her. At least she was on her team. Minnie was doing quite well for her first race. She smiled.
She had to focus now. Keep going, keep moving forward. And get there. And maybe, just maybe win.
She held her broom tighter in her hands and kept her eyes forward, hopefully ready for anything.

Pushing up fast and hard when Lavinia gave them all the go, AngelFyre snapped her wrist once safely airborne, releasing her wand from its holster. In just a matter of seconds, she successfully incanted "Inhaersco" on her broom, and an orange mist quickly appeared. Yes! Success, she thought.

She finished just in time to hear a Gryffindor fall to the ground behind her. AngelFyre did not look back, but ahead, and just in time to see Simon blatch another opponent off her broom. Okay, so far so good. It was early yet though. Things could change, of course, but she was going to enjoy these moments while she could.

And just like that the race was on. At high speeds, both the Hufflepuff Broom Racing Team and the Gryffindor Broom Racing Team implored their tactics into action. Hufflepuff had been training often and training hard and hopefully it was about to pay off. Each did their maneuver, each worked on precision flight - and so far, so far at least, all was well. After his successful blatch attempt, Simon focused on the next step.

The race began with an explosion of movement all around Matilde. She tried to be aware of her surroundings the best she could, but it proved difficult while keeping straight. All of the sudden, Matilde felt an odd sort of something she couldn’t quite put into words.she doesn’t know she’s a seer She knew what was about to happen barely a second before Raizel aimed a spell her way, and was able to dodge.

When she finally made it through the fog, Matilde could just see Minnie zooming past all of the other racers. Even though she doubted her teammate could hear her, she shouted, “Yes, Minnie!”

Minnie rushed past everyone and then just kept...rushing past. Soon she was in the lead! It was exciting, and she gave a little woop of joy ahead of everyone. But she stayed focused, knowing that if she let her concentration down for even a second she could lose everything. The race was off and moving which meant the spells did not calm. Dorion was trying to break free of Pierre's spell to no success, and Matilde had succeed in casting an umbrella intended to help with the waterfall. The spell slinging continued as Noah went after Dorion again with an attempt to disarm.

“There seems to be a slow in spells cast. I see Matilde had set up an umbrella, I hope that serves the purpose she wants because I don't see any rain! What I do see is another spell coming from Noah's broom aimed at Dorion. This could be interesting, Noah is targeting them again...and yet again he misses!”

Pierre and Linda had an exceptional plan as he grabbed the end of her broom and spun her around for an alley-oop. Linda would have a ton of extra speed and could take the lead through this one move! “Pierre has Alley-Ooped Linda! This is huge for Gryffindor! Lets see how far she fly with this extra boost!”

Minnie had originally gained a nice lead, but seemed to have stopped in the middle of the track, maybe she was stopping to admire the passageway behind her or the waterfall in front of her; no one except Minnie would know. Crossing through the passageway this time was four determined racers who all hit into the walls of the passage while trying to get through. Scrapes and bruises would start to form on each of them, but that's just a part of broom racing! “While Minnie has stopped moving, three of her teammates and a speedy Linda has flown right past her! Just another reminder to never stop while you're ahead!”

The waterfall was typically a formattable foe in broom racing, yet this time around all seven racers flew right through it with ease. Lavinia was shocked, usually at least one person was stuck in the waterfall for a little bit. “Woah! Everyone has passed the waterfall with ease! This could be a new broom racing record! We also have a new pack forming in our race and with so many people in it, the potential for attacks is huge!!”

Immediately after passing the waterfall, Pierre would notice Reyna coming right up beside him and swiftly knocking him off of his broom! A well executed blatch that must have caught him off guard after the waterfall. “Is that...yes it is... That's Pierre Marchonne getting knocked off his broom! Reyna has executed a brilliant blatch and now Pierre will be stuck trying to find his broom!”

Piérre clicked his tongue at Martyr's words. "Welp worth a shot." He shouted back while crossing over some open field area and approaching the two of the lead lions from the rear, his visions still impaired by the moisture on his goggles. "Maybe if I didn't have scrambled eggs for a brain I'd have remembered by darn compass. Hindsight is 20-20, I guess."

But upon hearing Linda's voice and advice, Piérre had a very stupid idea. "Hey Linda! You wanna go fast?" He tried to pull up alongside her as they were coming to the edge of the quiet area--not that the boy could actually see that very clearly for himself, though. "C'mere, Imma give you a fun ride~"

Before she could complain or understand what his intentions were--or indeed whether or not she liked the idea of the maneuver or not--Piérre snatched the nose of her broom and yanked hard, pushing his body down and increasing his angular velocity by reducing his radius. One spin, two spins... in a whorl of red, black, and gold Piérre released suddenly on the last turn, slinging the Gryffindor girl far ahead of himself with as much force as he could muster. "Ya-YEET! GRAZIE PER YEETING CON MARCHIONNE AIRLINES, AVERE UN VOLO SICURO-ISH! THANK YOU FOR YEETING WITH MARCHIONNE AIRLINES, HAVE A SAFE-ISH FLIGHT!" He would wave with a delightedly puckish laugh after the receding player, quickly turning himself back on track to fly even as the opponent team began to bring up the rear. He'd spare a glance towards Raizel and Noah. "C'mon you guys! We gotta catch up!"

The rumbling of a waterfall was at least early warning to lock in and squeeze down, tightening his legs on the shaft and letting his back get pounded by the subsequent sheets of water that battered him. Shaking his head like a dog, Piérre puffed out some air. Well now his goggles were super blurry and had some water inside of them as well. That wasn't very good.

And what else was not very good was that in his distractions a relatively hefty weight slammed into his side. In vain he tried to hook his leg on Orabella, but the broom's velocity simply slipped out from under him. Before he could so much as yelp in surprise, he was suddenly splashing down in shallow water below the waterfall, hitting the rocks at the bottom very hard indeed. Well, that would be a set of new bruises for sure. Coming up, the boy was grateful that his feet could touch the ground. Soggy and sopped, he spat a fountain of water out and then lifted his goggles so as to wipe his eyes. A tiny Hufflepuff went zipping by. He threw his hands up. "Hey! What gives?!" He blew a raspberry after her before snorting to clear the water from his sinuses. "YOU GOT A LICENCE FOR THAT?! LEARN TO FLY!"

A bunch of other fliers zipped by in turn, and Piérre rolled his eyes. Great. More time lost. How much time would he spend on the ground this time? It seemed like he would--at this point--be better off trying to shift into his animagus form or try to do this as a foot race. Cut out the middleman broom hazard altogether.

Description: Marvelous Spatuletails are medium sized hummingbirds, averaging between the lengths of 10-15 cm (if including the male's spatules) and weighing 5 grams (because even for hummingbirds that 'bulk up' for the purpose of migration no hummingbird exceeds 30 grams due to their necessity to be lightweight for flight and high metabolism). Its body is described as being 'about the size of a fluffy ping-pong ball'. Its plumage is usually white and green on its underbelly, and bronzy on top. Males possess blue crest feathers, a turquoise throat patch, and a black line cutting down a white chest and abdomen, whose side feathers are green. Its call is of a high melodic frequency described as "a repeated high-pitched buzzy metallic note...'tzzz...tzzz...' during its aerial display". Its calls include "an upslurred high-pitched sweet note 'tswee'" and "a more strident 'tsik'".

The most distinguishing feature of the male marvellous spatuletails are of course his spatules; two outermost tail feathers which are long, raquet-shaped, and possess indigo or violet-blue discs (spatules) capable of being flicked about independently. These feathers are not fully developed in juveniles, but they can grow up to three or four times the length of the bird's own body.

In this currently aged Animagus form (16 years old as of 2024), Piérre would be a petite 5 cm long (not including his juvenile tail feathers--as he is a male--which adds only an additional 9 cm), and a near weightless 4g.

Distinctive Markings:

Unlike the typical blue crest and violet spatules of a mundane Marvellous Spatuletail, the spatules and crest color of Mr. Marchonné's animagus form instead carry a structural coloration that varies all over the spectrum; resulting in his color being of all chromatic hues dependent on the way the light hits his feathers (in such a way that while he possesses the Marvellous Spatuletail body, he also expresses the Fiery Throated Hummingbird's various iridescent colorations).

The head crest feathers of Mr. Marchonné's animagus form are slightly longer than an average Marvellous Spatuletail's and they seem to possess a slight curl like his human hair. This results in the formation of what can only be described as an ahoge of feathers that curls forwards over its head as if aiming towards the bill.

The longer she lingers here, the further she’ll be behind and she can’t have that. It’s duelling all over again, always being behind. No, she’s sick of that, she can’t keep falling behind, being a burden to her team. “Damn it!” Raizel curses, grabbing her broom and quickly remounting it. She kicked off the ground, taking to the skies once more. No more side thoughts, she can’t let herself get distracted again for she has a race to do and a lot of catching up.

Come on, head in the game!

“We’re catching up!” She grinned despite the fact that she was pissed at that horrible start and she does have no one to blame but herself for being so inattentive of her surroundings. As they say, bear it and grin. At the same time, she was determined to keep going and finish this. As much as she wanted to get some revenge on whoever knocked her off of her broom, that’ll have to wait until she catches up to the others first. One of the best parts of broom racing was racing with the wind. You could block out al your opponents and just be one with the broom, allowing it to travel with the air currents to maximize your speed and to shut the world out for a moment or two. However, Simon also hated that in those moments, he didn't have his full attention on AngelFyre and in times like these, when she wasn't within her sight, he worried that she was safe. But when she had joined the Hufflepuff Broom Racing Team, he had conducted his research and there was no documented case of a broom racer losing their life at a broom race at Hogwarts - yet. They had discussed that during a race, the race would be the race and they'd dedicate themselves to the team, at least best they could. Simon did feel some relief when he caught her in his sights once more. They flew, and this always seemed to bring them back to when they raced on those bikes after her father's instruction.
