"Alright Mars, c'mon we gotta go for real now!" Piérre snatched the first year's broom and spun hard, flinging the young Gryffindor as far as he could muster. If anyone else had been stronger, he knew that it was likely that he himself stood the best chance of eeking over the line with Linda and whomever else was closest to the front, but alas such a situation was not the case, and this was indeed the desperate last-minute ploy of Gryffindor to try to snatch success from the jaws of defeat for the second time.Round 0 | Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 | Round 4 | Round 5 | Round 6───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Team Gryffindor, Figaro, & Lavinia Cloven Affected
As Raizel tried to cast a spell to push back the leading Hufflepuff, Piérre simply did all that he could and tried to bolt forward as far as possible just to get a few more pithy points. He wasn't going to be crossing that line, but he had to try to make trails. Riding far up on Orabella, he looked like he was getting ready to jump off the broom at a moment's notice. In reality he was making his radius larger, more ready to apply torque for a barrel-roll or sudden angular adjustment.
Through the thorns, which he kept his head down for, memorizing a route that he had observed and then implementing the knowledge in the form of the photographic image he recalled--bursting through the other side in a flurry of bracken and black spines. Covering vast swathes of open ground, he felt his mind turn a little fuzzy, but perhaps that was just the fact that the adrenaline was really getting to him by this point--the end of the race was at hand. "C'mon... just a little more--dannazione! Damn it! Come on!"
Thick black Devil's Snare vines coiled heavily around two more children that had gotten stuck in it. Fat Vampir Mosps--the memory of Philipe passed quickly through Piérre's mind with a strange fondness despite how poorly that little friendship had ended--hovered about like blimps ready to attack with their large stingers and affinity for both blood and flower. Marty had gotten stuck in the snare, by the looks of it. Well darn.
While the plant seemed preoccupied with its little captured trinkets, Piérre took the moment to hang a hard right, barrel-rolling and slithering between the thick coils. His ankles were kept tight to the broom, nothing on him was allowed to dangle even remotely lest it be a good accessory to grab and thereby entrap him. In the time it took to breathe in a gasp of tight anticipation, he had already passed through the worst of the coils and come out the other side. He would have no way of knowing that he was the first and only person to have made it through that part of the woods on his first try, nor would he really feel any appreciable admiration for his feat...
Due to the fact that two racers at the very front of the pack--one in yellow and one in red, both pursued by two other yellow uniforms--had made a picture perfect crossing of the finish line.
Going so fast that he couldn't and refused to slow down, Piérre also ended up smoking through the finish line with the remnants of his acceleration and the force of his momentum, but he certainly had not made top three--just like the last time. Yanking off his goggles, he shouted to the referee. "Tell me we crossed first after all that dirty work they threw at us in the early game! We earned that!" He bared his teeth in expectance, throwing his arms out as if to exemplify his point. He felt, for one, that he had been either on the ground or fogged up for most of the match--a very pertinent callback to his last game when he his first taste of official racing had been the dirt at the start line. "Cleanest race you've ever seen on a team's behalf, and you're handing it off to a bunch of dirty cheaters?! AGAIN?!"
Figaro trotted gaily to his master as Piérre brought Orabella down to bear, pulling off one of his racing gloves and slapping it on his thigh to straighten it out. His eyes thundered with frustration. "Non posso crederci! I can't believe this/Unbelievable!" Perhaps he was simply too competitive for his own good. More than likely it was simply because in simpler terms--he had failed his team yet again. He had failed on yet another occasion where success was so tangible that he could taste it.
He was starting to get tired of losing all the time.

19 Oct. 2024 - Hufflepuff vs. Gryffindor
Once Matilde took her advice and relaxed, they were easily able to work together to free themselves of the Devil's Snare. It was just in the nick of time, too, as AngelFyre looked back to see Piérre ooping yet another of his teammates. The girl looked to be a first year and did not have a Lumos cast, but she was barreling right for the Devil's Snare, and appeared to be heading a little too close to AngelFyre's current position for her liking.
She turned her full attention back to Matilde and the Devil's Snare. "When we get untangled, just fly as fast as you can towards that FINISH line. Do not look back!" she urgently coaxed Matilde after the last vine freed them. "Now! Go! Go! Go!" and with that they were both free. Matilde performed a beautifully tight and speedy arc up and over the Devil's Snare, and AngelFyre was right behind her. She had just said her farewell to the devil vine's vice-like grip when the blonde first year got an up close and personal hello from it for herself. AngelFyre did not look to see if she had landed in her place or not, but she definitely heard her hit.
She didn't have to look back to know that Piérre would be somewhere close behind. Her only focus for the moment was to fly, or to try take him down if he managed to get close enough to her thereby making him a threat to Reyna or Matilde. She bent low over her broom handle and flew, thrilled to see Reyna at the front of the pack with Linda. This one would be close, but there was no time for nail-biting speculation as Lavinia loudly announced that Hufflepuff had the win!
Her elation at that fantastic feat roared silently within as she planned to enjoy her first ever crossing of the FINISH near the front of the pack. Reyna and Linda had a photo finish, and soon Matilde and AngelFyre herself zoomed over the line. She was all smiles and quickly flew over to congratulate her teammates and to tell Linda what a fantastic race she had flown, and she had. That was the plan, but her attention was drawn to an unbelievable ruckus being directed at the race's moderator.
Piérre was having a full-blown temper tantrum, tossing his goggles down and waving his arms around to punctuate his point. AngelFyre was sympathetic with his disappointment over losing to her team twice in a row, but that goodwill was giving way to embarrassment for him and his exuberance until he accused her team of cheating.
Then she saw red.
As she was flying over to him, she heard her generally, non-confrontational self call out, "Whoa, there now! Best be careful who you accuse of cheating, Mister Marchonné. Just because your team was outplayed today does not mean you were cheated. If my memory serves... and well it does... the only cheating between our teams came from you lot in our last race, or I suppose I am supposed to believe that the arrows that pierced my back and Serena's came from Robin Hood's band of merry men? Hmmmmm?"
AngelFyre looked up at Lavinia, imagining her irritation was still coloring her features. She took in a breath, calmed herself, and smiled at the older Ravenclaw gratefully. "Thank you for your time and effort on both teams' behalf today. I, for one, very much appreciate it, and that would be true even if Hufflepuff had lost."
Turning back to Piérre, she said, in as kind a way as she could, exactly what she thought of his juvenile display. "You know, the shame is not in losing. It is in what you do with it. Your team did well today, but so did mine. It could just as easily have gone the other way, but it did not. It happens. You will live a much happier life if you learn how to deal with disappointment, and I am pretty sure you are old enough to know that by now, but mature enough is another question altogether." AngelFyre kept her gaze steady on his for a moment or so and concluded with, "It was a good race. Thanks for that. You all kept us on our toes. I wish you better luck when next our teams meet." Then she turned back to say as much to the rest of the Gryffindors before joining in the celebration with her own team who had all now crossed the FINISH line.

The end is nearing…
Final stretch…
People were still ahead, Raizel can’t tell who is in the lead but she knew she needed to do something upon seeing one of their opponents. Heart beating, hands shaking. Is this adrenaline or maybe just the anxiety speaking of not knowing who’s gonna cross that finish line first and which team will win. She didn’t move from where she is, she needed focus, she needed a better aim. She has to cast this spell or else…
She would fail her team.
It was a mistake however for she thought she could do it but when she waved that wand of hers, said the incantation, nothing happened. The worst part is, the race is over and victory… is not on their side. She was sick of this feeling, she had felt this countless times already. She thought they had this, they were doing great despite the rough start but in the end, they still lost and she can’t help but think of how it would’ve changed if she only succeeded. Her magic failed her again when she needed it the most and yes, she did fail her team.
Frustrating, disappointing, another more to add to her failure. So sickening. Yet that rage, as always, was left there inside, bottled up like the rest even though they were threatening to leak out through the cracked glasses. Everything hurts, her body, her heart. Her eyes went to her senior who had just expressed his disappointments and she couldn’t blame him and then to one of their opponents giving this speech.
And with that, there was no point in staying. Might as well get herself patched up. At least those scratches can be healed unlike the other pain that she’s feeling.
