Activity Preptober Prompts 2024

To accompany those who are partaking in the Preptober Tasks [LINK], we again have prepared some prompts that can hopefully help to inspire and assist in developing your setting and/or character(s). However, not to fear! Even if you aren't planning on taking part in the Preptober Tasks, you can still take part in this errand and have some fun with the prompts.

In this errand, you are expected to complete at least 1 prompt each week from the 12 prompts listed below (this allows you to choose which weeks to complete if you do not want/are not able to complete all 4 weeks). Each prompt has a minimum word count of 300 words, and the rewards for each week are listed below:

• Week 1 (1st - 7th October) = 3 chocolate frogs
• Week 2 (8th - 14th October) = 15 sickles
• Week 3 (15th - 21st October) = 3 chocolate frogs
• Week 4 (22nd - 28th October) = 15 sickles

For any additional prompts that are completed, you can earn an additional 10 sickles per prompt. These additional prompts have a minimum word count of 200 words. Your first prompt posted that week will be taken as the prompt for the initial reward, and any completed prompts posted after that will qualify for the additional rewards.

Please create one thread in the Shelves forum with the tag [Preptober Prompts 2024] where you post all of your prompts, with a new post for each prompt. To qualify for the rewards, prompts must be posted before the deadline (which would be the final day of that week in the latest time zone), and the rewards will be given out at the end of October/early November.

The Prompts:
(You do not have to strictly adhere to the prompts and answer the questions posed with each one - they are simply just to offer an idea of what you could write about!)

Prompt 1:
The Barbarian | Write about an incident that would anger your character. Why would this make them angry? How do they deal with that anger?

Prompt 2:
The Bard | Write about a performance that occurs in your setting. Are performances common to see? Are the performers local to the area, or have they travelled to perform here?

Prompt 3:
The Cleric | Write about an institution in your setting. Is it well-liked and appreciated, or disliked by the general population?

Prompt 4:
The Druid | Write about an animal/from the perspective of an animal that passes through your setting. Is it local to this area?

Prompt 5:
The Fighter | Write about something/someone that needs defending. Does your character defend it/them? Why or why not?

Prompt 6:
The Monk | Write about someone secluded in your setting. Why have they chosen a life of seclusion? Does the setting make it easy for them to live this life?

Prompt 7:
The Paladin | Write about a cause your character would fight for. Why is it so important to them?

Prompt 8:
The Ranger | Write about someone getting lost in your setting. What catches their attention, and why?

Prompt 9:
The Rogue | Write about something going missing. How does your character react? Was your character the victim? Was your character the culprit?

Prompt 10:
The Sorcerer | Write about your character discovering they have magic. What sort of magic is it? How will they use this magic?

Prompt 11:
The Warlock | Write about your character making a deal. Why have they made this deal? What may the consequences of this deal be?

Prompt 12:
The Wizard | Write about a centre of learning in your setting. Is it used regularly? Do people enjoy going there?

Rules:

• You DO NOT need to complete the Preptober tasks to join this errand, nor do you have to complete these prompts to earn the rewards for the Preptober tasks.
• If you are taking part in Preptober, you can use the characters/settings you've created when writing your prompts. if you are not taking part in Preptober, you can create any character or setting to complete the prompts - providing you adhere to the site's rules and ratings. You will not be allowed to use real people, plagiarise characters, or have disrespectful depictions of any race/gender/ethnicity/disabilities or illnesses, as per site rules. Please use the same character/setting for all of your prompts for consistency. You will not be allowed to use your Player Character, an iNPC, a dNPC or anyone else from Hogwarts.io.
• The restrictions from Preptober still apply here. Since your work will be published IC and onsite, you cannot write a Harry Potter fanfiction. That will require too much time and effort for those moderating to ensure everything written is in line with canon. Furthermore, this must be your original work, you cannot write an AU story of this community using characters from the site as they belong to their writers.
• Because the Preptober prompts will be written on the site, they all must adhere to the site rating. Information on the site rating can be found here [LINK].
