Gekko has short, straight black hair that's well cared for and kept in a simple bob. Her face, besides her small, mole under her lip and faint sprinkle of freckles, is completely expressionless, save for the small frown that normally seems to be on her face. Her large eyes have a somewhat blank look, normally appearing uninterested in whatever is going on. Furthermore, her body is small and slight, with thin arms and legs. She takes very well care of her hair when she’s not at home, diligently following her mother’s instructions so a hair is almost never out of place.

Gekko's story starts with her parents, who are, in her opinion, disgustingly in love. Her mother, Narumi Takahashi, is a muggleborn Japanese immigrant in Swansea, Wales. She'd moved there permanently after retiring as a magazine model in Tokyo, Japan. She'd been to Swansea multiple times in the past and had deemed the city as a quiet place to enjoy herself for the next few years before opening her own fashion clothing stores. But, little did she know, that she was beginning a new life chapter in her life when she met Cadell Phillips, a pure blood wizard. Their love story was full of trials and tribulations, but eventually they came out on top and soon after Gekko Phillips was introduced to the world.

Some could say Gekko was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she didn't mind it. Her parents loved her almost as much as they loved each other, spoiling her in every which way they could. They called her the manifestation of their love, despite the fact that her father couldn't even pronounce her name correctly, leading to him and many other people calling her 'Gecko', something she had to grow accustomed to. Of course, her mother found it cute and chimed in on it herself from time to time, despite knowing how to say her name correctly. This was a double-edged sword for Gekko, as she coincidentally was afraid of geckos due to one trying to crawl up her nose when she was younger.

Due to her father's family, and her mother not particularly knowing much about their world, Gekko was homeschooled for all of her life. The only people she really knew were her parents, her grandparents, and tutors. It made her lonely sometimes but she overcame this by studying joke books in spare time, hoping that when she eventually ventures forth she wouldn't be left stumbling in the dark. This was all done in the little spare time she had, for Cadell had high expectations of his daughter. He was very serious about her schooling, making her tutors teach the young girl everything her little brain could hold onto in terms of her general education. Which wasn't much due to her age, but damn did she try. Gekko didn't particularly care about being the best at anything or superior, but she understands her father's thirst to prove something to someone, so she tried her best to retain any information she could, which is why she didn't complain when he sent her away to Hogwarts.

This happened during a particularly hot summer, where temps were much higher in Swansea than usual. It left the poor girl irritated , much to the amusement of her parents and chagrin of her tutor. The older woman was trying to teach a 9-year-old Gekko about mathematics, as instructed by her father, but all the girl could think about was how hot it was. It led to her getting chastised multiple times, much to her growing annoyance and frustration. This continued for hours until the boiling pot of Gekko's anger tipped over at being scolded repeatedly.

"Shut up!" It was uncharacteristic for the young Phillips girl to raise her voice, let alone yell, but that wasn't the most astonishing thing. In her anger, she'd finally been able to do what her father had been pressuring from the girl, but it wasn't the way she wanted at all. Gekko just wanted the woman to stop talking for a moment and let her rest, thus she'd unconsciously made the books on a nearby bookshelf fly out and made one of them hit the tutor on the face. It made Gekko feel awful and horrified, as proven by how she immediately began apologizing and got down in her knees to beg for forgiveness, because anger was not something she was familiar with. The whole incident was largely brushed off, mostly with an increased pay for the tutor and a celebration over Gekko finally showing an instance of magic.

Gekko has a lighthearted and carefree personality contrasts heavily with her usually aloof demeanor, leading to a contradiction that many people misunderstand as her being serious, cold, or aloof. It could be said that her sense of humor isn't one that's widely understood, as she likes to point out the obvious because she thinks it's funny and recite jokes from books that clearly need to be updated. Her deadpan face and cold demeanor combined with her blunt words often make people mistake her as mean and somewhat unwelcoming, though those that know her better are able to tell she's just joking, and that her usual demeanor is playful, talkative and casual. Due to her default kind nature, she is rather impulsive to help those she feels are in need of a hand, making her the first one to always reach out. It combines well with her optimistic attitude on life and general situations, but also tends to make the girl a bit gullible in her belief that everyone is kind and deserving of gentleness in some way.

Wands made from Cherry are rare and prized, especially in Japan. It is rather bendy and easy to conform to it's users wishes, highlighting the user's optimistic and energetic attitude. Only a magic user with unyielding self-discipline and strength of mind will be able to handle it, as trying to control it without the necessary pride and overconfidence will not work out well.

Dragon heartstring wands are said to have the most power and are capable of the most flamboyant spells, they adapt easily to new spells. They are also said to be rather temperamental, as linked to their owner, and are prone to accidents.

Gekko's wand size is general pretty average sized, only a tad longer than the smallest size. It's a little elongated looking in her small hands, but she welds it with ease. Any magic she may cast with this wand is usually of the subtle power, making it easy for her to learn new spells.

The flexibility of a wand shows the owner’s ability to adapt and how well they welcome change. Gekko's wand is bendy, displaying her lighthearted attitude and how susceptible she is to changes in her environment.

Gekko's wand, according to Ollivander’s, isn't very picky with its owner, and can be easily wooed by others if its owner becomes lazy.
