In the middle of the week, following two days of sporting events and with two more still to come, the rest day would be a much-needed break for athletes and supporters alike. Exploration of the campus and its shops were certainly an option, but for those who preferred perhaps a more structured form of resting and recharging, Director Vorozheykin had set up modern versions of traditional Russian banyas (a type of sauna) around the fields that were usually used for practical lessons. Today, however, these fields would be for relaxation alone.
These small wooden cabins popped up around Koldovstoretz only on days that were specifically allocated for breaks, and today was one such day. Inside students would find plenty of wooden benches on which to sit, as well as an enchanted stove filled with plenty of hot rocks that would neither cool themselves nor burn skin if touched. Every so often, a magical faucet located above would sprout a fine mist of cool water over the rocks, causing hot steam to emanate from their warm surfaces and fill the banya with a comfortingly balmy fog that takes interesting shapes such as broomsticks, sprouted trees, dragons, Golden Snitches, and more. Speaking of enchanted, equally charmed are the small bundles of branches located throughout each banya; these move from person to person, softly drumming on their shoulders to promote relaxation and massage.
A short list of instructions can be found printed in various languages upon the wall of each banya:
- Students and adults must wear bathing suits or appropriate clothing within the banyas at all times.
- If you feel too warm, run outside and jump into the snow to cool off - it's tradition!
- Do not attempt to touch or scatter the rocks from the furnace.
- Turning off the faucet will result in being reported to your respective Head of school.
