Reducio Ellaine was the firstborn child of Ivor and Cynthia (née Willows) Weatherby, born in the town of Kesgrave, England. Her father was a Muggle, while her mother was a Ministry worker — and a Half-blood. (What she understood from later talks was that they had met during their university years, as her mother had chosen to attain a Bachelor's Degree after her graduation from Hogwarts.) Two years later, her brother Henry was born, and after another five years, Arthur. The Weatherby household was an average household, but Ellaine considered herself quite privileged. Her parents were protective, and had certain expectations of her, which Ellaine neatly met in academics. All three were enrolled in the local primary school, while her mother taught the basics of magic at home, regardless whether they turned out to be wixen or not. A fairly normal upbringing, which Ellaine found quietly baffling because she couldn't understand the origin of her own social awkwardness. The summer before the school year, her parents were vaguely concerned as Ellaine hadn't shown dramatic acts of magic the way her mother had. (They had another plan, of course, a local secondary school. If she hadn't gotten the letter, there was always the Muggle world.) Ellaine herself wasn't quite sure what to feel. She wanted to attend, and made sure to tell herself to expect the worst; yet deep inside she knew the letter would come. When it did, her parents simply offered their congratulations. No extravagant celebrations, only a simple dinner outing with her family, just as she liked it; followed by an outing to Diagon Alley the next day. Along the way, she could only feel excitement – and a dollop of apprehensiveness for what was to come.

Reducio Her first instance of magic occurred when she was seven. Little Ellaine, confined to bed, running a fever and nursing a pounding headache — she was understandably miserable. Her brother's (Henry, to be specific) incessant blubbering right next to her only increased her irritability. She wanted to scream. A moment later, the glass of water that had been sitting on the bedside table (already precariously close to the edge) tipped over the edge, shattering into pieces on the floor. There was a precious few seconds of silence between Ellaine and Henry. They both looked confused. Very much so. (When their mother came in seconds later, Ellaine blanked and fibbed a story of how she meant to take the glass to drink but slipped. Her mother had looked at her askance but hadn’t pressed.) No one was aware of this bout of magic. Ellaine quickly forgot about it in the haze of her recovery, and Henry didn’t think it odd. Each time this memory came up in her mind, Ellaine only had more and more reasons to imagine that perhaps she had accidentally knocked it over.

Mental Description

Ellaine is often perceived as a quiet loner, and she finds herself uncaring for her own social life. If someone—not her known people—initiates a conversation with her, she would reciprocate, albeit with awkward periods of silence from her side. She is trying her best to be social to a stranger, really.

In reality, Ellaine is always uncomfortably aware of her own difficulty. Swimming just beneath her conscious mind is an unchecked thought clouding her interactions: that it is easier to let people make their own conclusions rather than letting them in close only to walk away when she proves too much. Most mistake this awkwardness for rudeness, and social skills were never her forte. Not that she tries hard to change that.

Ellaine has an ambiguous outlook towards fairness, sometimes viewing it as a necessity in life, other times thinking that simply life does not allow for that kind of naivety. Ironically, Ellaine is an easy believer. Once you were labelled a friend, a kind person, Ellaine would trust you unequivocally. This trust is as easily shattered as it is built, and Ellaine is not at ease with her naive and believing self.

Oftentimes she wishes she was a Slytherin, or maybe a Ravenclaw. Pragmatic, sharp, and shrewd. All which she is not.

She was a half-blood middle child, loved by her family. Her youth was a typical pureblood upbringing, thanks to the Willows' open-mindedness towards muggles, with a great emphasis towards intellect and studies. When she was 7, the Willows family heard of the Dark Lord’s return and wasted no time in discreetly evacuating all the family's branches. Cynthia, alongside her nuclear family, lived in Spain for 4 years before returning to attend Hogwarts in 1999. After graduation (2006), she chose to attend the University of Bath (2007), where she met Ivor. She had worked a Muggle job, until she aimed high and landed a job in the Department of Mystery (2018).
