This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
After breakfast on the twenty-sixth of June, excited Castelobruxo students and their visitors gathered by the Jungle arena. The guests displayed a varied compote of nerves: some were excited, some would boast about their prospects of winning, while others, who had heard about the potentially dangerous terrain, would wish that they had never signed up. Nevertheless, it was too late to back out now, as Headmaster Santiago paved the way through green overgrowth that got progressively thicker the further they ventured from the school grounds, for the first teams to claim their bases and hide their flags. Since South America was experiencing its calendar winter, their guests would find the outside temperature pleasant. Meanwhile, the Castelobruxo students and islanders were used to considerably warmer weather.

Reaching the thickest part of the rainforest you could get without taking a trip to the nearby jungle village, they came to a halt. Santiago lifted his head and squinted towards the overhead canopy. The sky was clear. For now. The people accustomed to living in these conditions knew that the rainforest had a tendency to be unpredictable. Rain might begin to fall without warning, but for now, they seemed to have a dry game day ahead of them. After taking a glance around the groups, he thought it was for the best; it would have been a shame to scare them away before the games had begun.

The teams had been named after different Amazonian animals, which the groups were more or less satisfied with. Predictably, Santiago didn't care if they were satisfied about their assigned animal or not.

Before he sent the teams off in the opposite directions, he clarified some of the rules, hands resting on his hips in a casual stance. “This is it, Frogs and Grasshoppers." Glancing over the first to third years, he couldn't help but smirk. "Once you’re in there, you’re on your own. If you see something that looks dangerous, my advice is to not stick around long enough to find out. Me and the judges will keep eyes on the bases.”

“What about fouls?” A student asked, to which Santi only shrugged with an indifferent expression.

“That’s up to the rainforests’ discretion.” A twinkle of mischief briefly broke through his otherwise stoic expression as he added, “Remember, there are eyes everywhere.” Not just human eyes.

Uncertain glances were shared by some of the students, causing the more experienced players to chuckle lightly. Even the Headmaster’s lips tugged into an amused smirk, having seen this happen many times before; each instance was just as interesting as the last. It never got old.

“Well, what are we waiting for? To base!” He clapped his hands, sending them off.

HOW TO PLAY

The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Poison Dart Frog will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Suriname Grasshopper will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.

Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.

At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.

If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.

Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.

At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Meiyu Xiang before the posting deadline.

AT CASTELOBRUXO WITH @Valour Argentum AND TEAMMATES
JUNE TWENTY-SIXTH, 2026
In time for the game, the heat was just as bad as the previous night, if not worse. The seams of his clothes rubbed uncomfortably against his skin and crevices. Squinting his gaze towards the sky, Ilias feared it would not get cooler anytime soon. Misty droplets of sweat were already beading his arms, reflecting the sunlight like small crystals when he pulled the cap of his water bottle and raised it to his mouth. Tipping his head back, he squeezed half the bottle down his throat, yet barely clenching his thirst. He’d been drinking like a drunk non-stop since yesterday evening. Biting off, he swished the last mouthful around his mouth before swallowing hard. How this could be considered winter anywhere was beyond him.

Rules were laid out for them, as well as team names. Ilias belonged to the poison dart frogs, which he didn’t have any particular opinions about.

He was in a team of complete strangers, and even with another Ilvermorny student among the Grasshoppers, Valour was still the only person Ilias had shared more than a few words with. Well, save for his foster brother, whom was convinced he'd wipe the field with Ilias. Right... The guy was objectively ten times stronger, but Lachlan was, kindly put, stupid. The game couldn't only rely on brute force. Right? He hadn’t decided whether being paired up with Valour made the situation better or worse. It was almost ridiculous how often they seemed to end up in these situations together; through some strange sequence of coincidences, they were, once again, paired up for a potentially dangerous quest together. If it had not become such a recurring pattern by now—if one more unlikely encounter had not threatened to turn coincidence into fate—Ilias might have found it unsettling that he could never seem to shake the ice-eyed girl. Far from self-absorbed enough to believe himself that important, however, Ilias didn’t actually think her recurring presence was to blame by anything other than chance.

Dismissed to their base, Ilias kept a distance from the group of Hogwarts students, whom he assumed to be well-acquainted prior to the game. In case they discussed flag location strategy, he kept one ear open to stay informed or quip in where needed, but otherwise kept to himself. On their way to their base, they passed through a roaring waterfall and slippery rocks before emerging into a more arid stretch of jungle. A raised platform at the very back must be their base. Thick trees dominated the area, and vines coiling upward from the ground forced him to keep a close eye on his footing.

A delicate shadow appeared beside him as they trekked through vines. Recognizing her by the silhouette, he didn’t have to ask himself who that could be, giving Valour a wary side-eye as she sided with him. Though, he did not ask himself why or how he had memorized her by silhouette. As usual, the girl didn’t have much to say except an ominous “you again”, despite insisting on infiltrating his personal space. If he hadn’t known better, he would have believed she had something to do with the team constellations, just to mess with his brain. Again, Ilias ignored the strange feeling in his stomach and allowed it, accidentally brushing his arm against hers when they squeezed through a couple of closely spaced tree trunks. He immediately retreated his arm, placing his hand on his skin, damp with humidity, as if it would have been a grave insult to touch her without permission. More accurately, it was him who was most uncomfortable with people touching him unannounced.

His quickening pulse betrayed the composure he tried to maintain, and Ilias chose to disguise it with a snarky remark to distract them both from the accidental touch, and the fact that the day had barely begun and he was already on the verge of sweating his skin off. He didn’t look at her while addressing the elephant in the room.

“If we end up in the same team one more time, maybe we should call it fate.”

xxxSkylar feels the nerves getting to her a bit. What she had thought would be a fun summer game turns out to be much more serious than she had expected. The terrain was dangerous and the creatures are not as friendly as she hoped. The original excitement and wonder she had of the place slowly fades as she ventures deeper into the forest, heading for her team's designated zone.

Skylar feels her heart drop as the forest opens up into a wide trench, the sides were extremely steep with nothing but roots and vines as support. Precarious bridges formed by the trees on them offer a semi-walkable space, but not one she would trust with her life. The trench itself was cold, and there was hardly any light that filtered through. Skylar looks around her and makes mental notes about her teammates.

Some faces were familiar, but some were strangers to her. She recognizes one of the guys slightly, a second-year, if she was correct. The only reason she recognizes him is because of her obsession with Quidditch. She recognizes another Gryffindor as well, but cannot say that she knew him very well. There were two other students that Skylar has never met before, and doubts they were from Hogwarts as well.

However, the worry in her chest immediately eases as she recognizes her friends. Mikaela Hendricks, Skylar's best friend, is here. Though she had to forcefully drag Mika here against her will, the blue-haired girl still finds immense relief at the Ravenclaw's grudging presence. Her eyes also light up as she spots Paul and Ellaine, two of her closest friends. They still need a name for their trio, but Skylar can pitch her idea to them later.

Eased by the sight of familiar faces, the Gryffindor regains her usual confidence and enthusiasm. "Hello there! My name is Skylar. Skylar Blue. Looks like we're all stuck with each other in the trenches for the remaining part of the game. Unless we come up a plan to get out, of course."

A lopsided grin graces the young girls face as a strategy forms in her head. She never played a game like this before, but she'll be damned if she didn't at least try. After all, the Grasshoppers got a flag to steal.

𝕿he vicious heat of the Amazonas cooled against Valour’s skin, sweat sheening on her cheeks with a reddish flush. Characteristically, she seemed unbothered by the climate, having spent her childhood summers across the equator. In fact, it seemed at times like she froze the very air around her. Internally however, the heat made it hard to think. She hated the stagnance in the air, the humidity making them feel trapped in like an animal. Leaning against the sturdy trunk of a tree, languidly fanning herself, Valour surveyed the arena as people tore ahead before slowly following suit. Leaves whipped at her bare shoulders and legs as the group trudged deeper into the jungle. Her black tank-top, though cool on her exposed skin, was starting to absorb heat. Silver rimmed sunglasses perched on her forehead, it was like the girl was half-expecting a fist fight as she took out her dangling earrings and tied up her hair into a high ponytail. Grey denim shorts and practical trainers were about all she had to face the terrain.

As she found her teammates, Val was met with a flurry of familiar faces. Her eyes promptly glazed over her opposition, hardly recognising any of them, save for a few Quidditch players she’d met on the pitch. Her own allies suffered much the same treatment, though she spared a glance at one fiery-headed girl. She tilted her head at Merrick with the curve of her dark lips, icy eyes meeting green like planets colliding. They’d met on occasion – even shared a few moments together in private. Cecilia was one of few whose company Valour could bear and almost appreciate. Valour caught the flicker of a plan that crossed Cecilia's face when Peralta had reiterated the rules. It vanished almost immediately beneath an agreeable smile. She had a wickedness that hid just below the surface of her porcelain skin that Val could not help but want to coax out. Intoxicating, like foxglove. Perhaps the battlefield of the jungle was just the place to do it. As they strode side by side, Valour reached for a stray lock of her hair, shooting the girl a private smirk. Captain. Curls of crimson twirled between her index and thumb. You heard the man. No playing dirty today. Her words were thick with mocking and honey, eyes indulgently scanning the girl up and down before releasing her. Gone as quick as she came, she walked ahead, waves of ebony swaying behind her.

A few steps into the thicket, she noticed a figure skulking through trees, unbothered by their fellow teammates. Forgetting herself for a fraction of a second, she gravitated towards him, itching to confirm her suspicions. She realised she had drifted towards him before she'd consciously decided to move. Of course, it was him. His brow furrowed against the dense heat, curls strewn out of his face, expression murky. They always seemed to meet like this – unplanned, though not unwelcomed. She found herself by his side like a shadow, unannounced like she belonged here. She tightened her ponytail and tucked her wand into her hair like a pin, ready to be drawn at any hint of a fray. A picture of delicate brutality. You again. She murmured as if it were a nuisance, though a subtle smile danced on her lips. She found herself enjoying the sight of the boy, eyes trailing over him voyeuristically; the way he shirked from her a little, his quick glances at her and the way he shifted, uncomfortable from the heat. Ilias – the Mad Hatter of their labyrinth escapades earlier in the spring. Their arms grazed together and Valour twitched away instinctively as if it burned, as unfamiliar to casual touch as he was.

She knew he was going to speak before he even moved his lips. For one impossible moment she had the absurd certainty that she knew how his voice would sound before he spoke. Not guessed – remembered. The thought vanished before she could examine it.

“If we end up in the same team one more time, maybe we should call it fate.”

I wouldn't jinx it. I have a feeling we'll be sick of each other soon enough. She caught the twitch of his jaw, the way he looked anywhere but directly at her for a heartbeat too long. A smile tugged at one corner of her mouth, bemused. Looking up through dark lashes, she brushed a leaf off his shoulder. The touch came more instinctively when it was on her own terms. Relax. You're pouting. I'm beginning to think you don't like me. Her words were drawling and playful, in the way a cat might play with a mouse before digging her canines into the boy. Just as it had back at the ball, alarm bells and tinnitus seemed to ring in the witch’s ears at the sight of her companion. Foreboding and equally enticing, she made her decision once more. He was becoming increasingly difficult to place.

Paul walked along the path, keeping close to the few people here he knew; Sky and Ellaine. Although Mr. Peralta's presence was a significant calming element, the boy still held his wand tightly in his hand, often checking their surroundings. He saw monkeys in the tree cowns, figuring they might get dangerous if one walks these paths alone, not as a part of a group. Paul closed his eyes for a second, breathing in the fresh, jungle air. It smelled of soil and exotic fruit. It might have been the memories of the breakfast after which they went to the jungle, where those fruits were present.

"Whoa... the air here smells so nice!" Breathed out the boy, full of positive impression. I guess it's my new favourite smell! Ran through his head.

The smells weren't the only thing that captured his attention. The sounds of the animals. Insects' chirping, dragonflies' wings buzzing around, birds' squeaking, the leaves rustling under the weight of monkeys which were swaying their way around through the branches. When he opened his eyes, he saw the green skyscrapers above, blessed with large leaves, which could potentially serve as umbrellas, had it started to pour. Not perfect, as there were holes between them, through which the sunrays pierced here and there, reminding those who walked the paths that they were in south still, in spite of the temperature.

The moment Paul's eyes landed on the trench, he barely caught a breath. "Whoa... that's... massive!" Voiced the Gryffindor, continuing to walk at the back of the group. At some point, his eyes landed on a place where it would be possible to cross it, where the sides weren't that steep. When they stopped walking, Sky took the leader's position, introducing herself.

Of course. Who else should lead, than the one who's the best at it? Thought Paul, smirking, grateful that it didn't have to be him. He was a practical person eager to take part in an adventure, but he wasn't really fond of leading, especially at a place he didn't know. Sky seemed to enjoy the role though, and seemed oriented too, as if she were a local.

"Hehe, Sky really seems to be keen on being in charge..." He nudged Ellaine into her side with his elbow gently, talking about his Gryffindor mate. "But... she's got a point. Hm... hey, Sky, I think I saw a place where it would be possible to cross the trench. We can explore different areas then. I can show ya."

From this moment forward, Percy Todd would vow to never travel to the tropics of Brazil ever again. His hair was curly and all messed up from the humid air, drooping down in front of his forehead. And to make matters worse, if he didn’t know anyone well at Ilvermorny, this was just the matter, infinitely worse. He was surrounded by young brits and scots and irish, with thick accents he could hardly interpret. They all seemed buddy buddy enough. He wiped a hand across his forehead, blinking around at the thick foliage.

Percy’s sight was caught on a girl with blue hair- strikingly blue. Her lashes were pretty and long, and she stood with an air of confidence, surveying their eclectic group before striking up conversation. Pulling at the collar of his sweater, he was really starting to regret the full getup. Something thinner and sportier would’ve been smart- but he unfortunately did not have this clever insight. His eyes jumped around the faces of the other team, watching them mingle and interact. More weird Europeans, and a face that felt oddly familiar. Perhaps he was from Ilvermorny? Curse his face blindness.

There was no way he could know anyone from his team. There were very short students and ones who reached Percy Todd’s own height. He was sure they each had their own strengths, something they were particularly good at. Percy cleared his throat, eyeing them. ”Well.. I do baseball- If that helps.” He spoke with the same confidence the blue haired girl had, despite his own lack thereof. He needed to have more enthusiasm, realizing he had spoken without introduction. ”Sorry, I’m Ilvermorny-“ he smiled, ”shit- or, uh.. I’m from Ilvermorny. I’m Percy Todd- and I’m not usually this awkward so I’m going to be quiet now.”

He has crossed his arms while he spoke, lips pressed into an awkward line and cheeks raised as he looked about. He turned around to look at the weird barrier surrounding the area they were occupying. That’s gonna be fun to get around… Percy Todd hadn’t played Capture the Flag before. Was the interactive Hunger Games style arena typically apart of the fun? Or was it some weird Catelobrooks- Casseloxbru- Castle of Bruno? Whatever the schools name- tradition? He had only signed up because of the posters dappled about the hallways. He figured some international travel might be a fun story to tell his friends back at home.

There were two things that Percy was absolutely sure of, standing here in the middle of the jungle. Firstly, that Corbin and their family dog would absolutely get a kick out of adventuring this area, and second, that his team of strangers and misfits, no matter how odd, would be able to win. The other team did look very organized and capable, he would admit. But something felt right. More… fitting.

Damien could feel the heat a lot more than he did originally did the other night, he still wasn’t used to how hot it was here but he guessed that made sense since it was the Amazonas so he shouldn’t have been too surprise. He was lucky he was wearing a light blue button up shirt unbutton a bit so you could see his collar and v line as well as light brown shorts with his light blue converses. Besides the heat it wasn’t all too bad outside as long he drunk plenty of water and stayed hydrated he would be fine. As he walked to the destination for the games he tried to think about a strategy or really a plan as he truly never have heard of capture the flag before but it sound fairly simple.

Capture the other teams flag before they did and bring it back to your teams zone. Seemed easy enough but he knew that must have been the muggle version so of course whatever wizarding version they were playing must have had some different challenges to it which he knew would be a hurdle to overcome. As he got closer to where he could see his team he looked at Artie and figured he’d ask how he was doing with all of this. “So how are you doing with this heat but also this game ? Excited, nervous ?” He just smiled at him as he looked at him excitingly as he always loved hearing what Artie has to say.

#TEAMHOPS Buzzing from the excitement of another international event, Lachlan proudly wore his Gold Championship Medal from the Hockey game around his neck as a reminder that these bitches could never. Now, would Lachy have put it in quite those terms, probably not, but the sentiment still rang true.

The swamp smelled like literal butt cheeks and a concoction of other nasty things that had the first year scrunching his nose at the occasional whiffs of decay or whatever else had been dying within the wetlands. There were certainly animals out here too ready to knock them out if they had taken the wrong turn.

Truly, the one upside to this whole thing was that Ilias had been convinced to participate and had been placed on the other team. All it would take was a single moment and Lachlan would have him face first in the dirt — all in the spirit of fun and competition, of course.

Murmurings of another with azure strands had caught the boy's attention with a cocked neck and furrowed brow before letting the first thought that popped into his mind be blurted out. " Wow, you sound super smart! " Not that he wasn't, but words weren't exactly his speciality and Lachlan's concussion count was far too high for that to be where he rested his laurels on. " I'm Lachlan, Ilvermorny. Go Wampus and i'm here to basically fuck shit up. " A little sly smirk forming on his lips at the swear word, as though he had gotten away with something that he never had the courage to do otherwise. When Coach was also Dad, and a strict one at that, it was hard to get away with anything with his eyes and ears everywhere. " Let's go! " After a moment, Lachlan had turned on competition mode and was ready to begin his reign of terror and chaos.

I was regretting this already. I mean, yeah, Castelobruxo was gorgeous and, if I had the chance, I'd stay here forever, but the event...

Let's just say that there's a difference between random, unofficial duels where my integrity was at risk and an event where, if a spell came out wrong or the weather was not in our favor, my whole pride and honor would be at risk.

Our zone was... Pretty, actually. Well, yeah, there were a few... Obstacles, as you may call them, but it was still quite exciting. I didn't know any of my teammates except Skylar, so I was very thankful with her once she took the lead.

I mean, she was a Gryffindor, after all, right? The whole leader thing was on her blood... Or something like that. I was happy to be the right hand girl in here.

So when the game began and we all took the place she told us to, I just whispered a few words in her ear.

"If we die in here, Blue, wherever we are, I'll make sure my ghost haunts your ghost for eternity." And with that, I smiled at her and left.

A bit dramatic, yeah, but I didn't want to get injured in a place like this. Beautiful, yeah, but far from home. My mom died that way. And as much as she was one of my Saints, liar and all, I didn't want to follow her steps like this.

Ever since Sage arrived at the South American school, she'd found her hair to be a frizzy mess. As someone used to a Northern climate, the way her skin stuck to the back of chairs and clung to her clothes was unusual to her. Why she decided a game of Capture the Flag in the midst of the Amazon was beyond her, but at least it gave her something to do.

Sage didn't know many of the others on her team, the Poison Dart Frogs, but she recognized a few from the halls and as her fellow Prefects. Despite her unfamiliarity with many of them, she offered a kind smile to them as they appeared.

"I'm Sage," she said to no one in particular. "I recognize some of you from Hogwarts."

As a first-string Quidditch beater for Hufflepuff, Sage was well versed in competition. One of the main things that kept her sane at school was the ability to swing a bat and whack out her frustrations. Perhaps Capture the Flag was the same thing, but maybe not as they sweated against the humidity and their feet pounded against the ground.

Her hands moved to absentmindedly wring together, wiping off her stress. In her head, she took notes on the other team who she also knew little about. Her only hope was that somehow someone was talented at running fast besides her, her trusty running blade at the ready if needed.
