This event is part of the 2026 International Magical Olympic Games.
February 16th, 2026
Lake Bear (frozen), Russian Federation
The Lake was still frozen from the wintry Siberian cold as well as yesterday's opening festivities. Now, at midday, however, there was no stage near the icy sheet, but instead a small dais with several seats and a long table in front of them. Score sheets lined the table from edge to edge, and in each of the chairs sat a different headmaster or director from one of the international schools. @Aulis Vorozheykin, as the host of the Games, sat on one end; then down the line came @Célestine de la Croix-Valmer from Beauxbâtons, @Anthonie Engelbrecht of Uagadou, and finally Durmstrang's @Emery Albrecht.

As for the crowds of cheering students, lots of chairs had been Summoned (or, more likely, Transfigured from shoreline rocks by the Vedma of Transfiguration) and scattered upon the cold shore. Small fires were lit in stone-lined fireplaces in various locations, allowing those who had gathered to watch to stay warm whilst they gazed upon the spectacle.

Oh, for what a spectacle it was! Russia was famous for their Muggle ice skating, and the magical version was no different - if perhaps with a bit more glitz and glamour. Out on the icy expanse, solo and pair skaters were warming up, all dressed to the nines in sparkles and skating outfits galore. How they weren't cold may have been a mystery to Muggles, but of course everyone's outfits had been enchanted to stay warm so that the frigid weather would be no issue for today's athletes. First up was the solo competition, judged in two heats: first through third years having just finished, and now onto our fourth through seventh years. Who would take home the shimmering gold medal sitting encased in glass on the side of the table? Well, we will just have to wait and see...

HOW TO PLAY
There will be two rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

Each round, you MUST perform a Mundane Action from the Mundane Actions List; you can also perform a Magical Action from the Magical Actions List if you want for potential bonus points. As this thread is for Soloists, your Actions MUST be those that are tagged [Solo] on the Actions List; you cannot perform any [Partner] actions.

Performing the Mundane Action gets a certain number of points if you succeed and no points if you fail. Performing the Magical Action gets you more bonus points if you succeed, but you LOSE points if you fail.

Please include what action you are doing, as well as what level (Single/Double/Triple/Quad), at the bottom of your post. Different levels and different actions have different passing DCs and award different numbers of points!

Also in the first round, please include (in a Reducio underneath your action) the title and artist of the song to which you are skating (this must be a song that we can listen to IN REAL LIFE) as well as an inserted picture (NOT a link to a picture) of your character's skating outfit. Bonus points will be awarded to the Best Music and Best Outfit, as determined by a staff vote.

This event is moderated and it was required to sign up for it ahead of time. Please do NOT post here if your character is not signed up.
Please do not godmod Aulis or any of the other judges.

Pericles' passion for skating had ebbed and waned since childhood. Four years prior, just as he was beginning to lose interest in the mundane sport, he had met a young Hufflepuff- Alyssea Brown- in his hometown rink. After two years of on-and-off lessons, they were flying alongside one another across the frozen Black Lake. Skating took on new meaning while he imparted his knowledge of it to someone else, and through watching "Little Aly"'s enjoyment, Pericles found his own again. Then she was gone, souring his feelings for the hobby. It took no shortage of time nor maturation for the mage's jilted edges to smooth over. Loss was a hard lesson learned in Hogwarts, yet alongside it, there came the wisdom of gratitude. The twilight of Pericles' school tenure was settling over him. It was a bittersweet period, spent somewhere between remorse for what he was leaving behind and appreciation for all he'd experienced. There were many dreams and desires he had learned to let go of. Curing his father had become an accepted impossibility, and as tightly as he clung to his friends, Peri knew he was due to leave for far-off lands. The Nexus would always open its doors to them, though it would never be the same as sharing a dormitory with @Dealla Prince and @Aly Salinger. While he intended to visit as often as was reasonable, his mentorship with @Mahlioz Evethisawe and @Elena Clark were coming to an end. Even this journey to Koldovstoretz would be one of his last school trips. With that in mind, as the opportunity for IMOG presented itself, he was compelled to participate. One more memory of grandiosity for the road: he would put on a last show in a trademark monochrome costume.

The warlock learned to love skating as a connection to the natural world. It called for strength and balance, every muscle fighting in tandem to sustain grace. It was a process as rewarding as it was painful, not unlike the ballet @Eun-Ji Lee Hunt subjected herself to, and demanded to be taken seriously. The coming months would be spent designing an ensemble, perusing scores at a local muggle library, and designing a routine combining physical and magical prowess. Pericles sought a metal-smith who could commemorate his passion in the form of blades. They would be an extension of himself, something deeply personal, a task trusted to @Serena Towers. His suit was a gift from his grandmother, a seamstress specializing in enchanted fabrics. There would be no magic in Pericles' ensemble save for the enchantment of sentimentality. Having skates from a Hogwarts Alumni reminded him that leaving school might have felt like an end, but was truly a beginning, something graduates like Serena and @Howard White showcased with fervor for their fields. The thought made him less afraid of going all-out in his performance. Why carry on cautiously when this was his only chance to perform in IMOG? Why not risk a flirt with fate? He was going to push himself to the brink, and if his body failed him, so be it. A win would testify that anyone could succeed with effort. A loss would show that perfection was inconsequential so long as one went forth with zeal, savoring the moment. Peri would embrace whatever fate had in store for him, even if it hurt.

If convincing himself that he was in competition with chance didn't grant a carefree attitude, hearing his sole contender was @Evelynn Decipio dispelled the last vestiges of pressure. Pear had no desire to outperform his friend. Her presence shifted IMOG from a contest to another shared experience. He sought her out beforehand, looking for a secluded spot to offer well-wishes without spoiling his costume to their crowd. Assuming she tolerated it, the bird would would check her over for loose strands or wild hairs, preening before taking his place. The swell of an orchestra announced his program. Pericles arrived not on the ice, but in the sky, his winged shadow passing over the judge's desk. The eagle drifted down a spiraling path. As its outstretched talons reached towards the rink, they became blades. A blur of fabric and feathers enveloped the bird before Pericles took its place. His skates landed seamlessly, gliding with the momentum of his flight, displaying his suit in all its intricacy with outstretched arms. Both were wrapped in scale armor sleeves. Although he moved with apparent ease, the mage performed as though these weighed him down, keeping his gestures low and slow with symbolic restraint. Opalescent sequins captured light along his form, glinting like shards of stained glass. Pericles hydrobladed, tracing his fingertips against the ice with a whispered "Colorvaria." An oceanic blue bled out from his touch, spilling throughout the river until he seemed to skate on a circle of night. The traces left behind by his blades cut silver, forming loops and lines like constellations. As he soared along the edges, hands splayed wide, a "Nebulus" conjured trails of fog. They spilled from his palms before settling low across the ice. He finished with a "Stella Cascadia", sending stars dancing through the clouds in tune to the violin's steady tremello. It was as though the heavens had been carved from the sky and imposed upon Lake Bear.

Program Summary: Pericles arrives in animagus form, shifting from eagle to man and landing on his skates mid-flight. Through the first half, his winged sleeves are bound tightly under metal scale sleeves. Since it's a short event, he's chosen a short albeit poignant instrumental piece. The act begins with simpler moves and a display of wandless magic. He uses the Color-Changing Charm to turn the ice a deep bluish-black, casts the Fog-Conjuring Charm to mimic low clouds, and finishes with the Star Shower Spell to create a cascade of lights. With this transfiguration of the stage, he paints the scene of a bird flying against a night sky. His black and white suit contrasts the dark ice and rolling clouds. For moderation, he'll attempt a quad layback spin while using his wand to cast the Clothing Colour-Changing Charm.

ow in the world had she gotten to this point? It was not the first time the question had arrived to mock Evelynn, but it would certainly be the last. From the sidelines of the rink, she had watched as a handful of students younger than she from various schools had poured their heart, soul, and hours of preparation and training into a singular performance. The swell of the crowd's cheers and the judges' ultimate evaluations echoed like waves crashing into a distant memory--simultaneously encompassing, yet entirely surreal. While not entirely adverse to demonstrating her skills in a public setting (she had once performed song and dance with her violin for a series of challenges in contest of a crown), neither was it a common occurrence. In fact, that violin performance may very well have been her first, and last, such presentation. And as she stood on the edge of the precipice of her spin in this competition, a sort of resignation gradually washed over her.

It had seemed like a good idea when she signed up. In hindsight, a part of her wished she hadn't. There could be no denying what it was at the time--one last ditched effort to impress, not upon students or faculty of other international schools in an effort to demonstrate what Hogwarts' ilk was capable of, but rather to lay herself bare before the moon in the hopes that he might once again gaze upon her in the same way he apparently had when she wasn't looking. But that was, in itself, childish, a selfish perversion of the intent behind the International Magical Olympic Games to serve her own agenda. The months leading up to the competition had made that clear. And Fate, ever with the twisted sense of humour, would see it that the only other competitor happened to be @Pericles Dralt. Having sought her prior to their respective turns upon the ice, she both welcomed and reviled his well-wishes, still caught in the in-between of knowing nothing there remained and trying to move forward, but not quite always finding herself successful in that regard.

In a way, throwing herself into practice and preparation for this very event had both helped and hindered in that regard, though the distraction had been welcomed, and the exhaustion of long days of strenuous physical exertion, healing. Still, she managed to smile, genuinely taken by the thoughtfulness and care that he had put into his ensemble, permitted his preening with a bittersweet reciprocation, and finally wished him all the best as his name was called to take his turn. Hesitation kept her rooted as he took flight, suddenly uncertain as to whether she wanted to watch his performance at all, especially when @Aly Salinger could assuredly provide a near perfect descriptive recreation. Besides, given that she hadn't the faintest idea what it was that he would be performing, did she really want to risk its impact on her own performance? Yes, she ultimately decided, eventually picking her way to a spot where she could view it from the sidelines. He deserved all the recognition and appreciation of the hard work he'd invested in his craft.

And then, her summons came, her name called out like a dirge of dread. One last time, temptation called for her to decline, to simply disappear back to their yurt and pretend this night had never happened. Why risk scrutiny and judgment unnecessarily? Why bother with the extravagance and flair for something entirely for show? She wasn't a figure skater by trade. This wasn't her life's aspiration. In a way, it almost felt as though to traipse upon ice intended to parallel the Olympic Games was to mock the talents and ambitions of those whose life's mission it was to compete on this stage for their home and country. While she had skated casually ever since she was a little child, at no point had she ever dedicated herself to the craft with more than just a passing interest. Any jumps that she had managed to learn, any spins that she had mastered over the years, they were always from a perspective of curiosity just to see if she could, but never with the same sort of discipline that she had approached ballet or violin, quidditch or duelling. So what right did she have, the imposter that she was?

Yet, wasn't that the point? While true that it had been the process--of considering the song, composing the choreography and putting in the hours of practice--that had allowed for the introspection necessary to even develop the final production, wasn't the vulnerability the end goal? There was no risk in hiding behind the scenes. There were no eyes behind the curtain of rehearsal. It was only during the formal performance where failure was a possibility and the performance could be interpreted where the message could only be conveyed. How could she claim to have grown in authenticity if she never let them see behind the mask?

Stepping onto the frozen lake, Evelynn portrayed a disciplined silhouette as she made her way to center ice, movements precise even before the routine had begun. Were it not for the name, those upon the banks may not necessarily have even realized it wasn't another young man taking up their starting position. Cut from fabric resembling leather, the lioness' outfit was crafted in militaristic fashion with a half shoulder cape over a tailored royal purple long-sleeved shirt fitted with polished silver buttons doubled down its front. Far from the more traditional bejeweled dressed, she sported dark pants fastened with buckles and bands, her skates--a gift from Pericles for her 18th birthday only days early--handcrafted in the appearance of knee-length laced leather boots. And upon her left forearm, a bracer housed her polished walnut wand. Her position faced the judges, her countenance void of expression as though etched of stone. And there she waited in a semi-rigid posture that resembled military parade rest.

The music began, discordant harmonies rising quickly from the shadows, arms stiff and rigid arcing forward, one reaching forward, the other crossed over her shoulder. Only once the vocals began did she begin to move, pressing swiftly off the inside of a skate to push back from the judges. As though wielding a weapon, she arced in reverse in wide edging arcs, dancing on her skates with a series of sharp march like turns on each of the double string beats. Wand ejected from her bracer, she lofted it to the sky, a quietly uttered series of "Inanimatus Conjurus, Engorgio, Levioso" in tandem. One after another, a stone mask would be summoned from seemingly thin air, each depicting a different expression, a different state of mind, chiseled of stone, enlarged and lofted to hover in the air to peer down upon her from their judgmental perches. Throughout the build-up, the circuit circled inwards, expression remaining stone-faced, but the movements of body and limbs growing increasingly distressed. Until she reached the center, arching into a layback spin. Here, her concentration was paramount, as she quietly whispered a seemingly endless string of "Fumos". By the time she had ceased her spin, stopping sharply in place, she had emitted enough smoke to blot the sky and cast the ice itself in shadow.

With one more subtle cast of "Inanimatus Conjurus, Engorgio, Piertotum Locomoto", a humanoid figure rose from the depths of the smoke, its form obfuscated but terrifying, limbs spanning meters to either side below the cast of hovering visages. Here, her expression shifted, face upturning to the foe, apathy replaced with determination. Arms arced dramatically to her sides, one moving to pin behind her, the other before. Posture adopting that of a fencer, she held her wand aloft like a brandished blade."Caerulimillious".

A note to all players: The word count minimum is 200 words. The next deadline to post and submit strategy is 168 hours from the time this is posted. If you believe a mistake has been made in the calculations of this round, please reach out to me, Aulis Vorozheykin, ASAP so it can be addressed promptly. Rolls can be found in the roll-channel chat on the Discord. If you do not have Discord and wish to see the rolls, please owl me.
The Actions
Only two Hogwarts students seemed to be in contention for the gold medal in figure skating as both took the ice in beautiful costumes with stunning music painting a picture in the air.

Dralt's programme came first, and Decipio's second, though both completed gorgeous quad layback spins and simply differed in magical actions. However, it seemed that the colour-changing of Dralt's clothes edged out Decipio's beautifully cast Blue Sparks Charm, just by a single point.

Still one more round to go. It's still anyone's game...
The Rankings
  • @Pericles Dralt: 19 points

With his stage painted, Pericles spilled his heart across the ice, performing not only for IMOG but for a few friends somewhere in the audience. His story began as one of restraint. Every motion was controlled, the weight of his armor dragging him through lazy spins. Yet as the song started to swell in its second half, so too did his speed. The bird charged his momentum, wrapped his arms tight to himself, then slid his hands from shoulders to wrists with a whispered "Avifors!" As his palms glided over the scales, the metal loosed before erupting into a flurry of silver. Each fragment took on a vaguely birdlike shape: an uncomplicated design reminiscent of paper cranes. They flashed like floating daggers in a tight-knit flock. With his arms freed, feathers spilled from his sleeves, splaying out into a set of great gray wings as the skater arched into a quadruple layback.

Wherever Pericles flew, the enchanted swarm followed suit. They flitted in his wake as a loose formation, danced around him while he twisted, movements ranging from graceful glides to joyous leaps. The mage's own body motion changed now that his weights were transformed into tiny companions. Every jump, spin, and drop became increasingly bold. Pear's pulse raced as he mounted his courage for an especially challenging move, one he'd warned Alyssea to be an intermediary jump at least. He had only been brave enough to attempt a double axel at the time. While his energy mounted, the flashier aspects of his spectacle began to fade. The starfall dwindled out, then the flock began disassembling, drifting in different directions before settling harmlessly along the ledges or in the crowd. Gradually, the warlock was alone again.

"Ventus" had always been one of Peri's favorite spells, especially in duelling, so it would come as no surprise that it would feature in his program. He used it to conjure a gentle breeze which stirred the low-lying fog, whipping it into a sluggishly churning spiral. His tempo slowed once more as he wrapped himself in the translucent shroud. Pericles was being swallowed by the mist, but before the crowd or judges could lose sight of him, he launched into an attempted quadruple axel jump.

Pericles uses Avifors to transform his arm scalemail into small silver birds. Their design is simple, like origami cranes, and their command is "follow". They fly around him in a friendly swarm as he displays a pair of wing-like sleeves during a quad layback spin. With the heavy armor replaced by this flock, his moves grow in energy and riskiness. Eventually, the birds lose momentum and drift off in different directions (mementos for spectators!) before becoming inanimate again. Pericles uses Ventus to herd the fog clouds, wrapping himself in a foggy whirlwind. For moderation, he'll attempt a quad axel jump before disappearing from sight.

this programme is inspired by the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - The Mask Keeper boss fight and Maelle's combat moveset
𝔉or just a moment, the music held its breath, a transitionary note strung out taught with tension across the frozen lake. And with it, Evelynn took a deep inspiration of her own, mentally preparing for the task ahead, one that challenged her precision, awareness, and skill. Her wand responded to her command as soon as the swell broke upon the banks, blue sparks extending from its tip with the crash of the changing key and tempo, extending several feet ahead of her, illuminating the surrounding hazy fog with its luminescent glow. It was no longer a wand that she grasped in her hand but rather a sword bathed in light, pointed directly at her quarry. Again, the change in key held its chord, signaling the turn in intensity that the programme had taken and the stone foe slowly arced one of its limbs back in preparation to swing. Evelynn held firm, pushing off from her position only as the next chord sounded and the limb came down with a thundering crash upon the ice, evading just in the nick of time, sparking sword slashing at its gigantic wrist as though parrying its strike.

From there, the battle ensued. Her command to the now animated and looming statue to attack her was one that had been made without restraint. Every movement had to be deliberate. Each action required the utmost of focus. A single slip could mean devastation. The audience would feel the suspense of the fight, the uncertainty of the outcome, because it was uncertain, and there was no specific choreography. Practice of this portion of the routine had appeared different every time, though every time--and now--the focus remained on avoidance of the imposing masked figure with the multitude of visages. She swept around the lake with wide and swift arcs, blades digging grooves of desperation into its gradually fracturing mirror. A butterfly jump carried her over an angled blow. A cantilever, gloved fingers propped to drag along the of the lake's surface, allowed her to narrowly avoid the sweep of a stone arm. A series of others followed as she continued to dance deftly out of the way, winding herself through the battle field as she went. And all the while, the blue-sparks rapier flashed defiantly against her aggressor's efforts.

Eventually, however, the battle shifted. With engorged masks still floating above the scene as though caging her in to her own death defying dance, Evelynn shifted to the offensive. Rather than simply parry, she riposted. Chasses away turned to free dance with pointed footwork as she charged to close the distance with her own 'attacks'. She circled and spiraled around the entity working spins and foot changes where she could as though attempting to dizzy it into submission. And as the orchestral music approached its crescendo, she withdrew only so much as to provide herself the space to build up momentum and swing back to center. In the midst of it all, she pushed off with all the strength and agility she could muster for the height she would need to attempt her climactic maneuver: a quadruple lutz paired with a carefully timed smoke to daggers. Regardless of how well her jump would impress the judges, the fog she had summoned early in her course would be largely consumed, flashing like stars in the night before striking outwards in a fan of knives in all directions to strike stone foe and floating masks alike. And upon landing, a quietly uttered, "Ingens Explosiones", would see the attack to its conclusion, stone exploding all around her into dust that settled like ash upon a field of icy fire.

But not before she had managed a subtle "accio" upon one of the masks previously borne upon the stone foe. As the music fell, taking on a somber and introspective tone, the mask sped towards the witch, caught and guided to her own face as though it had attached itself there of its own accord as one last ditched assault before its master had perished. She held through a series of lower energy positions as though performing a melancholic ballet upon the ice, navigating through stony obstacle and debris, a natural winding down of her programme that ultimately led her back to the center of the chaos of her own making. There, she pried the mask free, regarding it at arm's length as though considering whether to replace it back upon her face, or let it go.

The answer would come as her walnut wand allowed for the subtlest of gestures. In seconds, she had cast the Butterfly-Conjuring Spell, Wind Jinx, and Clothing Color-Changing Charm. To the judges and those watching from the banks, however, the series of spells would evoke the image of the mask dissolving into petals--represented by tiny pink and red butterflies--scattered gently by the wind. With it, her costume (if successfully cast, of course) would gradually alter, the dark and sharp outline of her military outfit shifting to one of light linen and flowing fabric, the absence of a right sleeve and the cut-outs in the chemise allowing a plethora of scars acquired over her seven years at Hogwarts from various death-defying encounters to show through, including: the lichtenburg scar running from right shoulder down her arm from a magical strike of lightning; magical flame that had left its mark upon her thigh; three gnarled and ropy silver cords left by deadly wampus claws running the length of her torso; and hands and palms that laced with overlapping silver lines reminiscent of those her skates had carved into the ice after years of releasing her anger and emotions through the shredding of tree bark. And with that, the programme and the music would end upon the conclusion of her own gommage[1].

[1] French for "erase" — in the context of the programme, it refers to the erasure of the mask, signifying her eventual acknowledgement, internal struggle with and ultimate release of the masks and defensive social barriers she has maintained throughout the years, a symbol to accept herself as she is and embrace authenticity with those around her

The Actions
After the first round, the two gold-medal favourites were simply neck and neck, with the boy having a one-point lead. As Dralt pushed off into an absolutely stunning quad axel (Quadgod, anyone?), the judges murmured appreciatively over how the intricately feathered wings of his costume seemed to spread slightly, giving the impression that he was a bird taking flight - and the spray of blue sparks when he landed was simply the cherry on top.

Not to be outdone, Decipio seemed to be determined to make up her deficit. Her quad lutz was just as gorgeous as her opponent's axel, landing with a spray of snow, and though her outfit fell short next to the other skater's, seeing it ripple and change colours in the light was enough to beat the deficit. Her music, too, was pleasing to the ears, a positively beautiful crescendo that was enough to bring a tear to more than one judge's eye.

They huddled in a small group once the programmes had finished, muttering and debating for a long time. Too long. Finally, though no one was quite sure from whom, a small voice spoke up, asking a question that had not been queried since the 2020 Muggle Summer Olympics in Tokyo: "Can we have two golds?"

Hogwarts would share the gold, each programme impossible to distinguish in terms of quality, while other schools (dNPCs) would hold silver and bronze! The medalists would have to wait to officially gather their winnings, however, until the awards ceremony at the weekend.
