Sprawling across the great mountains that towered over Tenūsa lay the most magical structures the isle had to offer. They were not just mere feats against gravity and physics but symbolic of the ever growing understanding of the island folk. They knew that tradition was important, and they would never forget, but acknowledging and respecting the past does not require binding yourself to it. No the Isle and its inhabitants were always looking to grow, to thrive. So while many of the older structures still sprawled across the jungle floor, these marvels carved into rock and crossed the expanses of the sky while never taking away from the natural beauty of the place.

One would think up so high that roots could not reach, that the rot that was beginning to engulf the jungle floor would be a distant problem. Such beliefs would be quickly realised as foolish. Everything in this island was connected. Being made out of magic itself many believed the island to be alive in a sense, and as such each and every part of it was one and the same. Much like a body, the infection could spread no matter the initial cut. This disease that was claiming the ancient haven seemed to be intelligent enough to use that magic, to guide it to where it wished to be. To guide it to the creatures it wished to take, and as such from the draping vines and tunnelled pockets their inky ichor appeared ready to strike.

Another younger crowd had the entity writhing for an easy attack, after all they all looked so peaceful in their slumber, ripe for the taking. But this group was no such thing, despite their age many of them had already seen the troubles of the world, had survived the dangers of Hogwarts and afar. Roll: 11 They were not the kind to roll over and take the punches without giving something back. So the second that they felt the tightening constraint begin to twist at their bodies they shot up with collective alarm. Managing to slip from the nasty grasp of the tentacles they woke to a mass of black vines sprawling across their once pleasant homestead. Everywhere they looked the stuff had taken and each of them faced off against their own strain that angrily hurled its way towards them.
Moderation Note: None of you are currently restrained as you managed to escape but your room has been taken over by the entity and you each have a vine attempting to grab at you.

Mikey opened his eyes with a sharp breath and a stealing jolt. For a moment, he didn't realize where he was, only that something cold and alive brushed his ankle, and the air smelled wrong, heavy and bitter like burnt sap. Then the shadows moved.

Black vines crept stealthily over the walls where there should be wood and stone, and they seemed to be breathing as they pulsed and pushed forward. One of the vines snapped at him, splitting the air with an audible hiss, and panic surged so fast it made his hands tremble. For a second or two, Mikey thought this must be a dream. He slapped himself to check and realized that this was all actually happening.

No, no, no, He cried out, as he half ran, half backward, crab walked, his heart pounding so loud that it drowned out the thought of how ridiculous he must look. He could almost hear the terror scratching at his back, forcing him to freeze, to turn into a ball and disappear. But disappearing never helped anyone, did it?

Mikey pulled himself up, even though his fingers were shaking, holding the wand ready in his hand. The vine he had seen last time pulled up again, getting so close to the lantern that it went dark, and then it leapt towards him. Incendio! The spell was released more as a desperate plea than a command from him, and he hoped he hit his mark.

A rude awakening was what forced Avery's eyes to open that morning. Sunlight streamed beautifully through the windows basking the room in a soft golden light, but something was wrong. Very wrong. Something crept across her body. It slithered almost like a snake, but it didn't have the same scaly skin a snake had. Something was very wrong.

Avery shot up at the sound of screaming. That's when she noticed the vines tightening their grip on her and nearly dragging her back down onto her bed. Shock filled her face as she ripped her body out of the grasp of the vines in a swift motion and bolted out of the room. Her wand in hand and posed to strike the second a vine got too close.

"What's happening? Where did these vines come from?" Avery muttered.

The only other person awake was her boyfriend, Mikey. The terror on his face spoke volumes as she watched him cast Incendio. Avery had been so focused on her boyfriend's safety that she hadn't even realized her own problems that lay in front of her. A vine was creeping closer. It's menacing tentacles creeping closer and closer. Ready to strike when she was least expecting it.

Avery only had one thought in mind. Burn it to a crisp. With a steady hand and a hopefully sound mind Avery pointed her wand in the direction of the vine and yelled out, "Incendio Duo!" She just hoped the spell was strong enough to attack the vine and maybe even other vines around her if she was lucky.

Dylan always slept like the dead with rarely anything waking him up. Besides Avery, of course. She was the only person besides his own parents that could drag him out of bed at the crack of dawn just to watch the sunrise. Though, he did admit that it was always worth it. Even if it meant his precious beauty sleep was interrupted.

Then there was that morning. Maybe it was being in a new country or maybe it was the weird feeling spreading across his body. His eyes immediately shot open when he realized he wasn't dreaming. No. This was real, and it was a nightmare. Dylan shot out of bed when he felt the vines creeping up and trying to strangle him. A shriek of surprise escaping his lips.

He bolted out of the room in a disheveled mess. He could only imagine what he looked like. Black hair sticking up in every seemingly impossible way and blue eyes wild. He had to pull his act together and take a deep breath, but the adrenaline from his sudden wake up didn't help much.

Then he noticed the vines. Again. Though this time they took a different tactic. This time they were reaching out with tentacle arms to pull him in. Dylan ripped his wand out and pointed it towards the vine coming towards him as he yelled out, "Flipendo!"

He could only hope that he was in his right mind enough to fire the spell correctly. Otherwise he would have more problems than just a rogue vine on his hands. Not to mention the fact that he had to make sure Avery, Summer, and the other girls were safe. This was a man's battle though deep down Dylan knew Avery would refuse to back down from the fight. The lioness in her standing above the fear.

FINAL MODERATION OF PART ONE
Standing in for Lawrence in this moderation round to end part 1 of the event!
Three spells pierced the air as five roommates stood still, perhaps scared of the vines that were enveloping the room; however, the last trio were certainly nowhere near nervous. @Avery Gray's Incendio Duo, @Dylan Astor's Flipendo, and @Mikey Forville's Incendio all did wonders in taking down various vines while their friends (@Ellie Randensmith, @Summer Lancaster, @Amelia Lerelle, @Piper Hart, and @Joseph Sims) stayed frozen in shock.

Luckily, no one was dragged off by any of the malicious plants. All eight roommates were free to leave as they wished, because as if something elsewhere had piqued their interest, the vines shrunk back into nothingness and vanished seemingly into thin air. If they weren't scared, perhaps the group could proceed to part two and meet up with the other residents of the High Houses...

Ellie was having a strange but pleasant dream, she was walking through a field of flowers rather peacefully it seemed, then all of a sudden a vine grabbed her leg, pulling her. She awake with a start, it was just a dream. A weird dream but still a dream, These trees must be affecting my dreams. Ellie thought, still half asleep. Yet she still felt the vines grip on her leg, pulling her. She looked at her leg where, as a matter of fact, a very real vine was curling itself around. I must still be dreaming.Ellie did the only thing she could think of, she slapped herself. Hard, right in the face. Ow! Not a dream... This wasn't a dream, a very real vine was twisting it's way up her. She jumped back, escaping the vine but there still seemed to be a lot of them. She looked around at her other cabin mates, she only knew of three, Summer, Mikey and Avery. Mikey and Avery were awake but Summer was still out, vines coming towards her.

Ellie's heart rate was beating fast, what was happening and what happened to this trip? Nothing said they would be stuck in a room overflowing with vines trying to grab at them. Ellie reached for her wand, feeling for the familiar hilt of her walnut wood wand. Racking her brain for spells as she tried to remember every spell she knew that could be useful.

Lucky for her though, while she was trying to rack her brain for ideas, Avery, Mikey and the other boy who was awake was able to cast all the vines off her and the rest of the others.
