▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Cliffs of Omah Geni, High Houses, 4th January 2026, Early/Mid Morning"Fear is a snare that prevents us from moving forward,
Fear makes us an easy bait for the devil"▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬This thread is a part of the Tenūsa Open Day Event 2025The personal intrusion of the warbling mass of vines had robbed many of the peaceful retreat that had been promised and worse still, it had robbed them of their friends. Throughout the steep echoing cliffs screams of terror and despair reverberated in every corner, trapping the wailing inside the high houses like a malicious music box. The cries felt like they would ring through the air forever and perhaps they would. If no one came to their aid, and with so many taken, it was hard to believe anyone could.
Spreading viciously across the cliff faces of the high houses way above Omah Geni was a spider like infestation of the black vines, having slithered away in success. The web-like structure seemed to reach all the way down to the town below but with the thick tendrils blocking the view it was hard to see how the lower areas were fairing. Still one thing was glaringly obvious, if the vines had managed to climb this high and cause such devastation, it was surely to be worse below.
For the luckier victims, if you could call them that, who had managed to escape the gnarled grasp of the vines rushed to their balconies following the sounds of the harrowing screams they would see a collection of students being dragged through the web, from vine to vine pulled savagely lower and lower. Completely unable to help free themselves it was up to those remaining, to help save them. Whatever this foul abomination of nature was it seemed to be moving with purpose, it wanted the prey it had snatched alive and wherever it wanted them was clearly lower towards the city.
Peering down at the horror below, students could catch the sight of a number of captured victims. @Hans Jenssen-Schäfer being among the first to be taken was the lowest of the snares victims being hurled down towards the city below, but the others were not far behind. Students young and old hurled down with the power of the constricting vines, all fairing poorly to resist the creature's grasp. @Aly Salinger, @Ryder Hawke, @Nikolai Volkov, @Bree Grey, and @Mamori Anezaki were among the most notable students that caught the eye. If they were not rescued soon it would surely be too late. But with the intricate weave of dangerous vines forming layers above them it would be a challenge to save them before they reached whatever nefarious destination the plant had planned.Welcome To Stage 2
For all our high house homestead dwellers your challenge is simple. Find a way to rescue the 6 kidnapped students, or for those victims brave enough to try, help rescue yourselves. Feel free to also mention saving any number of countless nameless npcs along the way!
The vines have formed a spider web like pattern down the cliffs the high houses are built upon towards Omah Geni below. You may attempt to get down to the captives in any number of ways (broom, climbing, levitation, etc.) but be careful as the vines may not be so friendly to you taking what they've claimed.

Thump. Thump. Thump.
Devon felt her heart hammer in her chest. Her breathing slowly evened out as she shuffled out of her homestead, still in her pajamas and sandals. Her grogginess was slowly eclipsed, now, by her worry. She clutched her wand in her hand. ‘I’m glad the vines were gone from the homestead … and yet, two members from our homestead were taken. I don’t know them well … but I very much doubt they were the only students taken. I’m unsure of what I could actually do to help, but I’d be full of regret if I just sat back and let others handle it.’
Her green eyes glowed as they passed over the vines extending in the spider-web pattern toward the Omah Geni. A strange occurrence for sure. As much as she wanted to help, the last thing she wanted was to become a problem, herself. No, she refused to become another victim by sheer ineptitude. As it was, she was practically no help in the homestead. Just because she failed once didn’t immediately peg her to fail a second time. Her pigtails swayed as she looked around.
‘I wonder if any of the other students could help? I wonder if I know any of them? Ah, now’s not the time to distract myself.’ Devon sighed quietly as she looked around some more. The vines attacked the first time, so she assumed they would do so again if they were touched. And she assumed just torching the vines from here was likely a bad idea. Plus, she was still scarred from the fire at the Garden of Eden last year.
“I wonder what would be the best way to get down there … and not touch the vines? Maybe flying?” Devon wondered out loud, her New York City accent shining through. Her eyes flicked to the cliffs around … considering if flying would be best. Her broom was with her. She wanted a safe option … or at least one that had the best possible outcome.

A Lumos Solem, Impedimenta and Incendio later, the vines recoiled from their house. And that was not the end; it was just the beginning. Screams could be heard in the jungle and Maisie blinked, as she crouched down where the vines had initially broken through their lovely house. Squinting, in the distance she could see near the cliff face, a bunch of vines and between them what looked like a big, black hole. "Woah," she let out as she continued to peer out.
As her eyes narrowed she could see small figures like chessmen but the board was this place—huge and unyielding. For a moment she recognized the pink hair of @Mamori Anezaki, who'd been kind enough to invite her to a Quidditch match recently, and the curly locks of @Aly Salinger, Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain who'd always seemed capable. She let out a breath as she bit her lip. How very lucky they'd been that the vine had not pulled Addie down like that too. She looked over at her blue-eyed friend with relief. It very much could have been one of them.
And that was perhaps why she knew they couldn't just stand here. They had to do something. And where moments ago, spells had come to mind first and been successful, Maisie took a turn around the room. And then she saw it. "I hope you two paid attention in Professor Weems' class," she said as took a step forward, "Because I have a mad idea."
Broom and hand, she mounted it and waved. "Hop on," she suggested, not knowing how the Silver Arrow would handle the weight of three people. But unless they had brought their brooms, this was going to be how it was going to be. Even if it slowed them, Maisie didn't care. She needed them. Despite whatever Alyss Gilmour had said on the bridge that day and whatever Aislin saw in her, Maisie knew the truth: she was a shit spellcaster. But Robin and Addie were not. They were two of the best duellists she'd ever seen. If anyone could cut the others loose with precise spellwork, it was them. She just had to get them there.
And the first obstacle to that was the vines. She'd cast, "Diffindo," once they took off, hoping to clear a path for them to fly. And if she got really luck, maybe the spell would strike the vines near Aly as well. And if she wasn't lucky, Addie and Robin had a lot more skill.

Noises flickered throughout Aly's foggy head as she felt the odd jerking and swaying of something beneath her, something around her, like a warm blanket that was almost a bit too cozy to the point of being mildly suffocated. She was drifting in and out of consciousness, just slight bits of the black starry sky above her that made her relax, knowing that she'd probably just fallen asleep underneath the stars again, and that jerking of the blanket was just Dee's restless napping next to her. Yes, that's what it was.
What Aly could not remember, having quite sizably bonked her head on the doorframe moments earlier, was that she was not in bed or next to Dee, but had in fact been kidnapped by sentient vines and dragged quite unceremoniously from her High House down to this entangled web of plants in which she now didn't even really find herself. The Ravenclaw groaned, tilting her throbbing cranium back slightly, and mumbled something unintelligible under her breath before the darkness overcame her once more. She'd certainly need to be checked for a concussion in the healing wing of the school, or by whomever were healers here, after being rescued. If she were rescued.
The teenager had no way of knowing that her roommates had watched, horrified, as she'd been dragged from the home; she had no way of knowing that they were pursuing her, intent on winning back their beloved stargirl from creepy vines. She had no way of knowing that she'd caught the eye of a familiar younger girl atop a broom, who was now swooping down in an attempt to save her. All she knew was comfort, and darkness, and stars.

It was a blessing to be in such skilled company. Despite Adeline's close call, the girl's attempts to expel the mysterious growth were ultimately successful. It seemed that while the Ravenclaw trio had succeed, screams from below indicated that other students had not been so fortunate. Maisie was the first to approach the abyss. "Woah" the Gemmell girl turned to meet Adeline's gaze before shifting her focus back to the devilish growth. The relief and fear in her eyes told Adeline that she was luckier than she could comprehend to have not been pulled below. Addie's stomach began to churn nervously as her friend peered over the edge once more, her brown hair swaying softly in the strangely calm breeze. She should have known something was coming.──────────────────

"I hope you two paid attention in Professor Weems' class," Maisie addressed the girls, "Because I have a mad idea." Adeline cast Robin a worried glance. They had been lucky enough to make it out with only a fright and a handful of scratches, and here Maisie was, plotting an undoubtedly risky plan. Much to the Spinks girl's dismay, Maisie reached for her Silver Arrow and spoke once more. "Hop on," Mad indeed.
Adeline crossed her scrawny arms in an instant, fear and stubbornness taking root. On her best day she wouldn't fly a broom at this height, and she would not be caught dead flying with someone as fast as Maisie, on any day, ever. The young Ravenclaw's eyes flicked to the broom rider, a stormy seriousness cast over her. "Margaret Gemmell," She began, her tone uncharacteristically low, and firm. "I would follow you to the ends of the earth." Adeline whipped around with a stomp, turning her back to Maisie in her best show of defiance. "But I will NOT fly down there on that broom." The silence held firm for a heartbeat...
With comically precise timing, A loud SNAP! sounded out through the high house. Adeline hardly had time to process the sound before the surface beneath her fully collapsed, the compromised floorboard beneath her foot gave way with a booming crack. The young Ravenclaw shrieked as her foot slipped through the floor and into the unseen danger below. Panic erupted from within, sending her scrambling from the scene; In one awkward, chaos driven motion, Adeline leaped from the splintered hell-hole and flung herself onto the Silver Arrow behind Maisie. Addie's fingers trembled as they interlocked around Maisie's torso. "I .. have given a bit more thought to the situation at hand." She gulped. "Just get us DOWN from here!"──────────────────

It felt like nightmare. Actually it was one. All what Rose was hoping for was to wake up and find herself in her High House surrounded by her friends asleep. Nevertheless it was not going to occur and what was happening right before her eyes was certainly real. A bit to real for her.
Rose had run to the balcony to see where Ryder was being taken. As soon as she found herself there her heart dropped to her stomach. The vines of the Devil's Snare were everywhere around them keeping moving and growing into what looked like a giant spider web. Rose froze on the spot. She was feeling so helpless at the view in front of her. She tried to calm herself as to figure a way out to save Ryder as she sighted the chaos standing only few meters of her. She noticed not only Ryder has been taken by the vines and needed to be rescued as she spotted some students who appeared older already on the move to go and save their friends. Rose and her group had to do the same as they couldn't just give up on Ryder and leave him. There should be a way to go and save him even with the few spells they were knowing. According to the form the Devil's Snare was forming they could either climb it -which might appear quite dangerous as the vines could move and come take them- or they could go flying on a broom. They had to decide quickly.
However as Rose looked more carefully at how high they were she felt nauseous as her body tensed in fear. She started to feel really uneasy and even dizzy at the thought of being that high with nothing under in case she may fall while going down. But since it was going down that should be alright. It had to. Otherwise how could she try to save Ryder when she was unable to move from where she was? She had no choice but to overcome her fear as she didn't have much time to overthink and she and her friends needed to act quickly.
Analysing the situation flying was probably the fastest and safest way to go and save Ryder. In their group as far as she knew only one person was able to fly. So for the other such as her they might only be able to climb. At the thought Rose attempted to dispel the uneasy feeling she was getting.
Rose turned to her friends.
"Zephyr! You're the one who knows how to fly among us! One of us can go with you and for the others remaining they can try climbing and help from down there otherwise! We will find a way how to do! But you with one should go first you will be the fastest! Try any spells you know that may do light or fire and even flames. That should work even a bit!" Rose said on a serious and confident tone which surprised her when deep down she was nervous and could feel her body slightly shaking.
She turned again to the disaster happening trying to find the best way to climb and to fly between the vines. Although she wanted to throw up, was scared and shaking Rose was ready to either climb or go on flying.

When Robin had heard the echoing screams, it didn't take much to send her and her companions sprinting to the balcony, where it appeared all hell was breaking loose. It was quite the sight to witness - if she and her friends thought that a few tendrils of plants were something to cause distress, then they had no idea what was waiting for them at the bottom of the dim depths of blackened vines. Eyes wide in a countenance of fascinated horror, Robin couldn't peel her eyes off the students in the distance, one familiar face standing out more than the others. Aly, Robin recalled, the seventh-year Quidditch captain, unmistakable despite the overwhelming darkness. "Seems those guys weren't as lucky," Robin stated the obvious, voice flat in a tone that could only be described as shock. Glancing at Adeline, Robin could only imagine the fear that would have overtaken her if either she or her friends had been captured and helpless. "We should do something. Aly's down there!"
"I hope you two paid attention in Professor Weems' class," Maisie turned toward Adeline and Robin, eyebrows scrunched and set in a way that made Robin's heart flutter with excitement. "Because I have a mad idea." She'd mounted the broomstick in her hand and waved the two other Ravenclaws to join her. Only a beat had passed before Robin realized she was nodding her head aggressively, a grin growing on her face as she realized how bonkers her friend truly was - in a positive manner of speaking, of course. The adrenaline in Robin's system was doing its job, all right, because she had never felt more keyed up and ready to go. Truth be told, she didn't have much experience with broomsticks. She'd flown in class, of course, and she understood the concept of flying, but... doing it was another thing. It was only because it was Maisie that Robin felt comfortable enough to not question it. This girl was familiar with playing at unreasonable heights, considering the number of unofficial Quidditch matches Robin had watched her play.
"Sounds insane! Let's do it." Robin declared, turning to Adeline so that the girl could hop on first. She'd only paused when she saw Addie's face set in a way that told Robin that NO - they would NOT all be sharing a broom together.
"Margaret Gemmell," Addie began, causing Robin to stiffen, her voice reminding Robin of her younger sister Sam when she had made a decision that nobody else had even realized was up for debate. Robin's grin faltered, and she looked back and forth between her friends, wondering if now was really the time for such a conversation. "I would follow you to the ends of the earth." Adeline turned on her heel with a furious stomp, facing away from Robin and Maisie as they watched in silence. "But I will NOT fly down there on that broom."
"Get your head in the game, Addie!" Robin said with what she hoped sounded encouraging, but probably came out sounding condescending. Gripping her wand tight and pointing it at her friend's back, Robin took advantage of the fact that the stubborn Ravenclaw had turned her back on her. (Usually a mistake when you're friends with someone like Robin.)
"Animosus," She cast in a low voice, winking at Maisie, hoping that Adeline hadn't noticed the spell being placed on her. There. Maybe her friend just needed a little courage to help her focus on the bigger picture here - there were people in danger. The seconds were ticking down.
"It's not even that far down-," Robin began, still trying to placate her friend, when she was interrupted by the booming SNAP that echoed from their house in the sky. "-HOLY SHIT!" Robin shouted in surprise, her brain short-circuiting. One moment Robin had her wand pointed at her friend as she waited impatiently for her to mount the damned broom, and the next, Addie was wrapped around Maisie on the back of the broom, trembling as she clung to their friend like her life depended on it. Which, Robin supposed, was a valid concern all things considered. Addie was mumbling something, but Robin wasn't listening. She was too busy half-cackling, half-screaming as she also scrambled onto the back of the broom, wrapping her arms around both girls and clenching with all of her strength... which wasn't much. She was a small girl, and they were... very high up, despite what she had been trying to convince Addie to believe. Falling would only create an entirely new set of circumstances for them to have to work through. Nonetheless, the fright only made Robin feel alive. The rush made her blood sing, her cheeks red and breath coming out in little gasps of terror and delight alike as she hit Maisie a couple of times, urging her to fly.
"GO, GO, GO!" Robin yelled, squeezing tight and hoping the broom could hold all three of their combined weights.

Zephyr’s heart was still hammering against his chest from the moment Ryder was snatched. He couldn’t stop the scene when the black vines enveloped his friend and dragged him over the edge of the balcony like a puppet on strings. He never felt such fear as this before, not even during the most chaotic Quidditch matches he'd been a part of. Panic washed over him, but he knew screaming wouldn’t help. Right now, the best thing to do is to fight their fears and act.
He followed Rose to the balcony and was shocked at what he saw below. At first, he had thought the Devil’s Snare only attacked their group, that they were the only unlucky victims of an isolated event. It was far from the truth, it was happening everywhere! His jaw dropped in shock. More students were being dragged by the vines toward that web-like structure. He could hear screams and shouts across the cliffs as more and more people disappeared left and right. The vines weren’t just attacking randomly, they were hunting people!
A cold sweat ran down his back, realising how dire their situation was. "We could all die down there if we're not going to be careful." He told his friends. "But Ryder… we have to save him." He glanced at the group, they probably mirrored each other's reactions. For the first time, he realised how little they really knew and how unprepared they were for something like this. Could they even save Ryder, let alone protect themselves?
Rose's voice brought him back to the present. She suggested that he use his broom to go down there and fly with another person, while the rest will climb down. "Yes, yes that's a brilliant idea!" He ran back to their room and found his broom under the bed. He brought it with him, planning to train every morning before starting or joining any activities. Who would have thought that it would come to this? But now he silently thanked himself for every early morning practice he had done in the past; this is the best way to apply what he had learned so far.
Finally finding his broom, he grabbed it without hesitation and rejoined the group. "Okay, I'm ready." He hopped onto his broom and reached his hand out for the other person [Whoever wants to come with me!] to come with him. “Let’s go...” Although he was shaking, his voice held determination while internally, he was also forcing the panic down. All those hours alone on the pitch, all the unofficial matches, all the advice he received, it was all for this moment. If he hesitated now, Ryder wouldn’t stand a chance. "Please ready your wand, use lumos, or incendio, I don't care which, while I do the flying."Although he was also gripping his wand tightly in one hand in case he would need it too. Turning to the others, "Please make sure you take care of yourselves, alright?"
Action: Already mounted his broom and will fly with another student. Once ready, we'll attempt to go down.

✽Avery approached the hole that students were gathering around with caution. Upon peeking down, her eyes widened at the site she saw. Her acquaintance from a party, Bree Grey, was trapped. Avery gripped her broom tighter. Her brows were furrowed in concentration. There were others trapped down there as well. So why was everyone just standing around?
Well, some had been brave enough to venture down into the hole, but how lucky would they be? The vines were menacing enough from the outside. Then again, Avery didn't care. All that she had in mind was to save her friend. That was what mattered. "Let's just get this over with." Avery mumbled to herself as she mounted her Silver Arrow.
Most were going down in pairs, but Avery was a lioness. She was supposed to be brave and brave she had decided to be. It was her duty to save her friends. That was what a good friend would do for another. Regardless of how terrifying or difficult it could be.
Avery kicked off into the air and began her descent down the hole. It was now or never to save her friend and whoever else she could save. With her wand at the ready to ward off the creeping vines, her broom descended lower and lower. ✽

Screams echoed off stone and wood, echoing louder and louder until he couldn’t tell who was nearby and who was far down below. But beneath that was something that made his skin crawl. A creaking sound, like something was being cinched down tight by something alive and hungry. He slid down the last step to the edge, his boots scraping loudly off the stone. He took a deep breath and looked down.
It was a tangle of a design. Vines descended down the cliff face toward Omah Geni, a series of slick, twisted strands that caught what light was available like oil. They moved, shifting minutely at first, then more obviously as he took a step back. They were listening. And caught between them were students, being drawn down with jerky, uneven movements as if they were nothing more than weights attached to a rope.
A flash of scarlet and gold through the chaos. Must have been Avery. She was already riding, already committed to the descent with a determination that left no room for second thoughts. Mikey’s heart was racing hard against his chest as he saw her. He felt a rush of pride and fear that was too swift for him to separate one from the other.
“Avery!” But his voice was caught away by the wind. Mikey didn’t argue with himself as he took a step down. He learned a long time ago that hesitation was a danger all its own.
He kicked off with one leg, swinging it over the top of the broom as he went. It was a bit more bumpy than he would have liked, but it was smooth enough to get him airborne. The wind hit him in the face, and for a second, the whole world seemed to be pushing him back towards the balcony. He leaned forward instead, shoulders hunched, body positioned in the best angle for flight, and dove after her. “Avery!” he called out again, louder this time, as if saying her name would draw her closer to him. The vine web was rising up to meet them as he plummeted towards the ground. The strands shifted and changed, responding to the disruption in the air, probing for them.
Mikey’s eyes darted rapidly across the strands, calculating the best way to get past them without touching them, without her touching them. He had his wand in his right hand, white knuckles gripping the wooden hilt tightly, and struggled to steady the grip on the broom. The pounding of his heart was deafening, the thumping of the magic vibrating through every cell in his body. He cut across the air, diagonally, to get closer to her. He was pushing the broom faster than was comfortable, faster than was smart, but Avery was flying as if she belonged in the air. She was sharp, precise, fearless. And Mikey was not going to catch her at speed. Not ever. “I’m right behind you!” he called out, not sure if she would hear him, not sure if it mattered, but it mattered to him.
A vine sprang up at him, fast as a whip crack, and Mikey cursed as he swerved hard to the left to avoid it. The sudden movement made his stomach drop out from under him, but he quickly righted himself, not slowing down.
