𝕸alcolm and Eulalie first met at a charity dinner, though Eulalie was a close family friend of the host while Malcolm was invited through a friend from work. While initially wanting to network and talk about his business venture, he also knew that potentially marrying into any of the wealthy families present at the dinner would also be a strategic move. The two did not initially meet at this first dinner. Instead, Malcolm had found an interest in a different woman—a lawyer. He attended more social events as this woman's partner, who then introduced him to Eulalie. When he heard about her work in fine arts, Malcolm began corresponding with her to learn more about the subject with the hopes that he could open a more high-end hotel with elevated decorations. Malcolm eventually parted ways with the first woman as he and Eulalie became closer, to the point that she became his art consultant and, eventually, his wife.

𝖁erity Themis Engels was the first to be born from this union, and a daughter at that. Malcolm and Eulalie had tried for another a few months after Verity's birth, but unexpected complications occurred that led to a miscarriage. It took a few more years before there was another Engels child, but eventually Magnus Hector Engels was born three years after his sister. Cassius Asterion Engels joined the family not long after. Magnus and Verity butt heads more often than the family would like to admit, with Verity's strong but refined personality and Magnus' even stronger and assertive personality. This is mostly the result of the family's traditional views, despite Verity's initially significant social presence in networking and social events before Magnus turned five. Having grown up in the spotlight, Verity holds strong views about how to behave and perform for others, and when she criticises Magnus for falling short, she is told he is simply learning and to give him grace. It would not be wrong to assume that Cassius is the 'spare heir', should anything happen to Magnus. Despite this, Cassius is not held to the same expectations as his brother and, instead, experiences a large amount of freedom in his interests. For a short time, Cassius accompanied Verity in her endeavours, which is why the two are incredibly close.
