Aurélie found herself quite excited for her second ever official duel. A little nervous, sure. But that was to be expected. Plus, she had a hundred percent success rate so far, so what was there to be worried about?

When Aurélie had seen the team listings for this year, she'd been a bit sad to see that it wasn't the same team as last year. They'd definitely crushed it together. She still did have Phelan on her side though, which was a pretty big win. And the other girl was from her school, so they had a full Beauxbatons team. Maybe they'd all get along this time too and it would be amazing.

Aurélie had practised for this, trained for this. She had her wand handy with her, ready for whenever the duel would begin. She smiled as others filed in, reserving her most excited ones for her teammates.

It was time.

Though he had been a little skeptical of the idea of joining the dueling team last summer, Phelan had to admit- winning had felt good. As the match was about to begin, he nodded in Aurelie’s direction. He took comfort in the fact the she would be on his team again this year. He gave his other teammate Genevieve the least threatening glance he could manage to acknowledge her presence. Given the circumstances, Phelan couldn’t help but think about last summer. In barely three days, it would be a year since the werewolf attack. Phelan subconsciously touched the scar now running down his left jaw and cheek. As soon as he realized what he was doing, he dropped his hand to his side, fiddling with his wand to busy himself. He couldn’t think about it, it would just get in his way today.

Manu’s last London camp had arrived, which meant her final international duel against students from the other schools, and she was happy at least for once to have been paired with her fellow Castelobruxo attendees. Too many times in the past she had been forced to deal with a hotshot from Ilvermorny or Mahoutokouro, forced to strategise in English and to make way for another country’s duelling style. But not now. Now, she could at last truly be herself on the piste.

It became apparent upon her arrival that she was the last of the Brazilians to show, her younger counterparts having already made an appearance. Manu vaguely recognised them both from duelling in the golden pyramid, the young pair clearly both from Chile. Not likely to be fluent speakers of Portuguese, then. Muttering a bit of an expletive in her native language, Manu then switched to Spanish, something she had learned from her Argentine mother: “Listen. If we play the game right, we can easily take them,” she declared, drawing her wand. “Let us rely on each other and not fear. This match will be ours if we trust in ourselves.”

A decisive start as the moderator witnessed the damage that a seventh year could do amidst a crowd of second and third years. It didn't help that Geneviève froze up, stuck between a scary classmate and dangerous opponents and plenty of eyes from the spectators.

Beauxbatons' strategy was to try and get the Seventh Year first with fire and dancing. Aurélie, perhaps feeling some of the nerves as well, struggled a bit on casting and getting her wand on target as the Tarantellegra flew across the piste into nothing, but it would provide a good distraction as Phelan threw flames in Manu's direction. Slightly stronger and a little closer, the Castelobruxo student evaded the heat nonetheless as she crafted a spell of her own.

While her teammates focused on Phelan, Manu turned her attention to the other two as she split a Blasting Curse to the ground beneath them. A likely unfamiliar spell to the two of them, neither Geneviève nor Aurélie knew how to properly move out of the way before the shrapnel exploded with them in the middle. A strong blow, Ariana followed with her wand aimed at Phelan for a smaller yet still powerful strike from Flipendo. While her cast and aim were strong, Phelan quickly dipped out of the way as he expertly avoided the magical punch. He wouldn't be so lucky against Ariam though as Ariam successfully locked the Beauxbatons student into place. It wouldn't be for long but a 2 v 3 fight this early on could be dangerous. Time would only tell and they still had plenty left...

The match had begun so fast that she hadn’t realized she needed to react until it was too late. She had been struck by a rather painful spell that she’d never heard before and was sent backwards. Her sternum hurt from where the spell had landed and she was practically wheezing as she tried to reorient herself.

It did not help that something malicious was radiating from one of her dueling partners, Phelan, as she found herself inching slightly away from him to get up and return the strike handed to her so cruelly. Phelan though seemed stuck for the time being leading to the conclusion that he was being held by something invisible. It seemed that Aurelie too had been hit by the same spell and it did not do wonders for her either.

It was a duel but what if that brute of an older student had ruined her hair??

And there they went. The duel began and not a single duellist seemed to even think about just evading the spells that were sure to come at them. No, they all seemed quite content with attacking first, worrying about the consequences later. Though, could Aurélie truly be judging if she was doing the same thing?

A thought for another time, perhaps. Right now, the French girl had to keep her head in the game. Had to keep her thoughts focused too. Because this round did not go as she'd planned. Not in the slightest.
