Broom Racing Durmstrang-Uagadou vs Ilvermorny Summer 2025

BROOM RACING - DURMSTRANG-UAGADOU vs ILVERMORNY - SUMMER 2025
Date: August 24th | Time: Morning | Weather: Cloudy & Windy| Moderator: @Aston Beckett

ROUND ZERO
Aston zipped up his jacket, despite it being summer the clouds and wind today made sure this would not be a warm day. No matter, the weather won't change anything, today was a big day and he would certainly make sure that it runs smoothly. It was his very first race, and it is at summer camp in front of all the students from all over the world, it's bound to be a fun day, especially for the racers. And, Aston is the one commentating! All that made this a day he has been looking forward to for weeks.

"Hello everybody! Welcome to the final race of the summer games!" Aston paused with a large smile, mainly for a bit of dramatic effect. "Today we have a team made up of racers from two schools, Durmstrang and Uagadou." Aston turned to look at the racers, letting the crowd greet them."And they will be racing against the team from Ilvermorny, I wish you all have a wonderful race!" Repeating the same gestures for the Ilvermorny team, Aston listened to the sound of the crowd. The track today looks like an exciting one and Aston for one is looking forward to how the racers will get through them.

After all the racers got into place, Aston cleared his throat, and said the words. "Racers! On your marks! Get set....GO!"

A note to all players: The word count minimum is 50 words. The next deadline to post and submit strategy is 120 hours from the time this is posted. You must include in your first post (and preferably all posts) any active abilities, your character's stats (without broom, you can also include the stats with broom but they must be clearly separated), and your character's chosen broom and its effects. Failure to include your chosen broom (that is also in your locked inventory) will have you automatically defaulted to a school broom. In your first post of the game, please include your trunk post quoted from your encyclopedia. Do not simply link it, it must be quoted completely for archive purposes.

Breathe in, breathe out. She was fine. Kikki was geared up for her first race, wind billowing around her. This race would go smoothly. They would win in terrific fashion, and she would get to leave this country for home. “Мы победим” She vowed, eyes narrowing at the course before them. They better, she had not come all the way out here just to lose.

They were facing the Americans. The loud, obnoxious Americans. Losing was out of the question. Kikki allowed for the familiar sense of calm wash over her right before the final word was spoken, tension resting in every muscle. At last, she was to put her skills to the test. And Kikki wouldn’t allow herself to fall short.

Perfectionist:
Reducio
Kikki has, throughout her life, always strived for perfection. Mastering multiple languages, practicing and memorizing any theory that might be remotely helpful later on down the road. She kept a well taken care of appearance, with well brushed hair and impeccable poise. It has been drilled into her that anything less than perfection cannot be tolerated. This is why Kikki always puts her everything into any action she makes. From brushing her broom, to make sure it is sleek, without a hair out of place, to how she speaks to other people. She has ensured that no matter what she does, she will always do it to the highest level, as to achieve perfection.

This has come to the front many times, but particularly when she was writing. Calligraphy was never something that Kikki focused on, as her writing didn’t need to be pretty for others to understand her. This all changed for her in a single moment, as her tutor questioned her place in her family because of messy handwriting. “There’s no way, with that handwriting, that you’re an actual Tähti.” His scornful voice will often surface in her mind when she questions if the effort she puts into everything is worth it. Kikki will always remember the way his eyes scanned her words on the page, before looking back at Kikki with underlying disgust.

Since that fateful day, she would practice how to write with her quill so that the words that flowed out were graceful and elegant on the page, never daring to damage her family’s reputation again. Because as many times as it was hammered into her that she stole their heir and wasn’t a true Tähti, she also was told over and over that her actions reflected their house as a whole. To ruin the family image would be to ruin her parent’s lives, according to how many times she was scolded into perfection.

Now? Kikki brushes her hair and braids it, ensuring there isn’t even a single hair out of place. Now, she takes such good care of her equipment, such as her broom and various stationary as to keep the shining look of brand new and perfect supplies that they need to be. Now, Kikki is too terrified to get anything wrong, lest she bring the entire family legacy toppling down. Instead, she reads all of the textbooks prior to classes. She listens to all the stories about Durmstrang, as to prepare herself for her future. She knows each and every class that she’ll take, she’s heard descriptions of the castle from everyone willing to tell her, and has mentally braced herself to be the very best that she can be: perfect.
Broken Broomshaft:
Reducio
Upon learning of Kikki’s selection of Broom Racing, her father had immediately hired a tutor to oversee her progress atop a broomstick. She had to be strong and fierce, yet quick and agile. All of these were difficult, and yet the young girl thrived. Kikki was always someone who wished to be part of something bigger. To be a gear turning amongst a machine, to be a key part of the success of a project. She chose Broom Racing because it combined so many things that the other sports wouldn’t even dream of. She could be casting spells left and right, or even chugging a potion in the middle of a match. Kikki could also simply fly, as quickly as possible until she physically could not find it in herself any longer.

Until the summer games, Talvikki was practicing with a full on Broom Racer. He was bigger, stronger, faster, and had loads more experience than she did. So Kikki learned. She adapted. She figured out how to respond to bigger, better opponents. It wasn’t as though she was a pushover— Talvikki was actually tall for her age, had boasted longer arms to match her torso. These helped her, particularly when blatching. Her elbows would find her opponents side and her broom would slam into his broom, attempting to knock him off balance while she shoved him from the broomstick.

Blatching was one of her favorite exercises, simply because it was the area in which she improved the quickest. This was why, at the end of her summer training, she insisted on a full blown race between the two. Her tutor understood her plan, and Kikki didn’t care. Because while she may still need improvement in many other areas, her form while blatching was nearly perfect, and it was incredibly likely for her to topple him from his broom, rather than he to escape to the finish line before she could finish him. And so it was. They lined up for the race, both zipping from the starting line as soon as the words “And… Go!” left the moderators mouth.

It was momentary. It was immediate. It was beautiful. Talvikki lined up her blatch and soon found herself looking down as he was sent tumbling to the ground below. But the difference, this time, before she took off to capitalize on the lead that she’d built? It was the earsplitting CRACK that seemed to echo in the air around them as the broom she had collided with was sent tumbling to the ground as well, this time in two pieces rather than the one it began in.

ILVERMORNY RULES!!!
This was crazy! Cursa favoured duelling, yet somehow had been conned into broom racing by his idiot Scottish cousin --- LIAM! He'd heard of the gift of gab, but he thought that was an Irish thing, not a Scottish thing. And somehow, after listening to Liam regale him with tales of Colin's exploits on the broom racing track, Cursa had found himself snookered into joining the racing team.

He hoisted his broom up onto his shoulder and headed out to the starting line. If he ever survived this, he'd have to kill both Liam and Colin!

They said the race would be three against three: Ilvermorny, the objectively Best Wizarding School In The Entire World, against a combined Uagadou and Durmstrang team. Himself, Basil, and Devon against the world. Perfect! And, of course, neither Liam nor Colin were here to witness the spectacle!

What sort of tomfoolery is this? Three against three? And her fellow Uagadou peer was separated from her! Chuki was left to work with Durmstrang, and even worse, her opponents were from Ilvermorny. But it didn't matter, Chuki wasn't going to go down softly. She never did. Surely a nasty snip will make them go all out? She was glad she worked hard on her English before she'd left.

"Ilvermorny! I suppose the school was just desperate to find anything, so long as it could float on a broom? I can't blame them, but this isn't a place for those who know only to ride on mere sticks and jump around on them. Your school will be embarrassed regardless when you lot fall off your brooms before we even start!" She let out a crackle to her own mockery.

Now then, time for the real excitement.

BLINDVISION
Reducio
A magical illness went through the tribal village. Many children became ill. Chuki was one of the victims, and it has caused her partial blindness in the end. Panic and desperation could be heard in voices underneath the village tree, with her mother being the loudest. Whatever was spoken underneath the tree, left Chuki's mother bitter. Her mother always left the tree bitter. Her mother gave her the news. Their healers came together, the illness wasn't a common muggle-born illness, and a effective treatment for it would be difficult to do for a large range of children. It would take time. Chuki didn't know how long she would have to wait for her turn. But there was something she hoped as a result, she wouldn't need to return to school. She could stay with her tribe instead. It wasn't like she wasn't used to the darkness. One would often have to travel around the tribe in total darkness at night. It was common for late night to early morning chores.

In the mean time, she would have to learn the world over with no eyes. And so, she did. She learned how to weave baskets without her eyes. She learned how to gather dead wood without her eyes. And eventually, she learned how to play ball again without her eyes. Chuki didn't know how long she has been blind for, and if she would possibly be blind for the rest of her life. Was this be the exchange for begging to stay with her family? Was destiny so gripping on her?

Chuki was suspecting as such until her turn finally came. It was as if she was undergoing a dreamless sleep for so long. The tribe was relieved that the illness wasn't deadly. Yet luck would have it that a few children ended up losing some vision from the effects of the illness. Chuki was one of them.

Despite the odds not being in her favor, Chuki felt more connected to nature. The feeling of the gravel beneath her bare feet. The sounds of faraway animals, contenders of the hunt. The cool movement of wind, and its precious guidance for the birds that are privileged to ride it. Yes, the blindness was a gift, not an illness. Birds do not need to rely only on sight to contend to their hunt. Their smell, their hearing. Their wings.

Surprisingly even, ever since her partial loss of vision, she had became a lot more calm. Less aggression in her behavior. The tribe of women noticed, and her mother also especially noticed. Chuki and her mother sat down to talk. She told her mother how different the world felt now, even more than when she was opened more to the world of magic. Her mother understood, yet still worried. They talked about the tribe, about school. School would be hard. It was outside, and it shared itself with many other students all over the continent. It was like war. "You know war. Show them war." Chuki took the wording literally.

CALMING PRESENCE
Reducio
Chuki loves her tribe. Everything she did, she did it for them. The violent rages, the disrespect she gifted Uagadou finally came to a halt with a forceful sit down by her tribe's chieftress. An argument was assured, with the chieftress easily coming out at top. Uagadou wasn't her prison, it was to be her second home. Her second tribe. Chuki didn't like the idea of a second family. She didn't need a second family. But the chieftress explained to her that Mwanamke was a second family to many.

Chuki didn't understand, and downright refused to until a new bundle of children entered the village. Their former village destroyed and burned away. Chuki was to help until it was time to return to school. A lesson, proposed by the chieftress.

The constant crying at night, the clingliness that never released. Chuki began to wonder if Uagadou was as terrible as she convinced herself.

Soon enough, Chuki learned how to handle the attendance of children. She learned how to multi-task, to organize, and to share. The children began to see Chuki as a figure to appreciate. The frustrated, tired Chuki slowly turned into a Chuki carrying at least three babies, one in each arm and one resting in a sling on her front across the village. She picked up signs on what the children wanted. When they were hungry, tired, or even simply desired to be carried. Chuki understood and attended to their every needs. They began to trust her, depended on her reliability. Chuki did so well keeping the children calm with her presence that it became a bit difficult when it was time for Chuki to return to school.

Returning to school, Chuki learned the meaning of trust. In order for others to trust her, she needed to trust them. The careful feet of her peers whenever she was in the area slowly turned into casual gaits. She started to accept Uagadou as a second family, and began treating her peers like family. The children she attended to back at home opened her mind to welcoming new family.

Any student younger than her found crying ended up getting a rag wiped across their faces and given words of comfort. Chuki didn't know why she started doing it to the children back at her tribe, but somehow it would work. She assumed it would work there.

MUGGLE CONDITION
Reducio

Wands and magic were tools that rarely were used in Chuki's village. Anytime they were used, it was for emergencies. The chieftress didn't like the idea of the village relying on magic. Whether it was because of the fear of being spotted or the fear of relying too much on magic, Chuki wasn't sure. It would be years before she had the right to sit under the tree and speak her mind about it. No matter, the village relied only on their hands. Farming the fields, weaving their baskets, and beadwork. Chuki could argue that she simply is better without her wand when it comes to tedious tasks around the village.

At Uagadou, it was no different. If she could do her school work without a wand, she would. While her peers struggle to remove themselves from their wands, Chuki could simply throw it away and forget about it. She would help her mother often with personal chores, and such personal chores were quite handfuls. Uagadou seems to accept it. Many other of Chuki's peers seem just as content to do things by hand, very much like her.

Even though she was raised in a village that refused to rely on magic most of the time, Chuki started to notice that she is able to figure things out far better than others. She would climb a rope better than her peers that relied on magic, understood muggle tools better even. If magic disappeared one day, how would any of them survive? Would they even survive living among muggles? Chuki was already far ahead. She had sisters, and aunts who are muggles. She ate with them, work with them, and even tended to their care. It would never matter if she was able to use a wooden, magical stick unlike them.

Chuki has always been an active child also. Playing sports was like a second hand nature to her. Being active was a necessity, a form of survival. She always was good when it came to sports, but this year she seemed to do it even better. She threw better aimed objects more often, and her peers noticed too. Eventually she ended up always being the one meant to throw balls when it was time to play sports at school. Chuki was fond of it, it meant her peers trusted her more now when it came to working in a team. It's good for family to trust one another, isn't it?

BROKEN BROOMSHAFT
Reducio

Chuki, once again, broke another broom while sneaking off to fly with it. She definetely got it from her mother this time. She wasn't sure why it even happens. Surely her strength wasn't that oppressive. But it wasn't only at the tribe where this issue would occur. It would happen in the midst of her schooling. Sometimes not even with a broom. A pencil? Snapped. A stick? Snapped. Even her own arm once. That time it was for breaking another pointless rule at the school. Despite her chieftress' words, Chuki still had a bit of a struggle fitting in with the rest of her peers.

However, whenever it came to going against her peers in anything involving a broom of their own, it conveniently snaps. And it would be around the time when people cheer, and its actually for her. The constant nagging and ear pulling from her mother, her chieftress' disappointment of her failures, almost encouraged her to forever give up on even touching a broom. To becoming a warrioress and standing guard of her beloved tribe when others seek to harm it. A dream that was almost dusted away, that almost encouraged her to leave her own tribe and seek her father.

When she gets on a broom and fights for her second family, she feels just as at home with her first. Her curse would instead become her blessing. Prehaps this is what the chieftress means on earning trust. Her second family can trust her to break brooms as desired, to trust her to make the right choices.

Eventually, Chuki would learn how to only break things when needed. Her sneaking behavior of practicing her flying skills back at Mwanamke would land her without the nagging from her own mother. Her chieftress, while she sure still wary of her, didn't look upon her with such disdain anymore. Soon enough, Chuki will be able to sit under the Tree of Life and her voice will be as important as all the other women in the tribe.

And despite her mother's nagging, Chuki was sure she knew of her secret escapes onto the tribe's brooms. Her mother doesn't really dive into her past, but apparently she was as wild as the young spirited Chuki. She had to do anything to survive before she found her new family.

If Chuki breaking the brooms of her enemies was her way of survival, then so be it.

She'll even keep a tally mark of her fallen enemies.

Cat's Grace
Reducio

Chuki watched from a distance as a one-eyed cheetah captured a gazelle and dragged it into the savannah's grass. How quietly it moved despite its speed, despite its black, noticeable spots that laced its body. She understood why her tribe worked hard to defend against poachers that wished to snare the area with their greedy grasps. The animals were nature's natural teachers on survival. The sustainers of balance, in keeping the food chain clean and proper.

Chuki decided to copy the ways of a cheetah not long after, practicing the art to see how such success came to be. The last time she went out hunting with her mother, she failed miserably. Not even being partially blind could justify the failure. When she looked into her mother's eyes, all she saw was disappointment. Chuki was used to such a look by many of her aunts at the tribe. Whenever she committed some sort of trouble, they held such looks. But from her own mother?

Chuki went to bed that same night with a sense of grief.

After what felt like so long, Chuki's mother took her out again. She wasn't sure why. Her mother was harsh when it came to second chances. Chuki even expected a different tribe member to take her out again.

Chuki didn't waste this second chance.

This time, they were hunting nothing more than a hare. Chuki had a bow this time, along with her mother. They walked through the savannah with bare feet, something that Chuki enjoyed as a source of freedom in comparison to Uagadou's dress code that required shoes for long travel. This is what a cheetah experiences on a daily basis. Nothing to care for besides acquiring food and tending to their young.

Chuki moved low to the ground, something unexpected by her mother as they moved through the savannah's grass, slowly lurking through to find a well known location of springhares. Chuki would find one, fully grown quietly eating a small twine of grass just outside its burrow. She remembered the cheetah, how it observed the gazelle. How despite its spots, the gazelle did not even took note of the oncoming danger lurking not so far. Chuki did the same, remaining low and observing the springhare.

Its fur would be useful along with its meat. Something that poachers wouldn't be able to appreciate besides monetary gain. Chuki softly blinked, and the springhare made a short bounce away to another twine of grass. Its head no longer directly in line of spotting her.

She raised her body amongst the grass, her mother still in watch from the background. The bow made no sound besides a quiet stretch of its string. The hare, even with its inability to fight back, could hear and escape all predators. It raised an ear to the quietness.

Chuki paused, performing a stillness that not even the wind could break. The cheetah knew impatience would yield no food. And so, Chuki waited for the perfect moment. And the perfect moment came when the hare bounced itself in the proper position for an arrow to strike.

Chuki released the arrow. Silence followed. The hare did not even see it coming.

Chuki, for once, saw her mother smile, and it was towards her. They took Chuki's hard earned game back to the tribe. The hare, in its small form, ended up bringing more smiles than Chuki was used to seeing in the tribe.

Learning the grace of a cat, the cheetah, was awarding. That night, Chuki's belly was filled with rabbit stew and fufu (dough), and her face was plastered with a smile.

The Mwanamke Tribe
Reducio
The Mwanamke Tribe is a tribe loosely based off of an actual tribe known as Umoja. "Mwanamke" is the Swahili word for "woman". The Mwanamke's own foundation is based more off of witchcraft accusations that target majorly the elderly, disabled, etc. They're a group of women who attend to children and other women affected by outside dangers or accusations. What makes these accusations different is that they may have likely been true. Chuki's mother, as a child, was accused of witchcraft the day her first instance of magic was seen by her own family.

There are also women and children accused yet there was no solid proof. No matter the case, they were all welcomed into the tribe. Those who are only escaping the dangers of Africa could also be found in the tribe. Those who are able to access the tribe usually do so because a member found them and took them in.

The tribe's location is in an area surrounded by mostly wildlife and dangerous terrain. It is not easily accessed by muggles. If muggles were to somehow arrive at the village and weren't invited in, they would be chased off immediately by "screaming banshees."

Because of the reason behind the tribe's creation, it's members purposefully withhold the tribe's location from outsiders who weren't in need. If Chuki is asked about her tribe's whereabouts, she will purposefully ignore the question and anything relating to it. Because she is young, she doesn't have the right to bring in outsiders.

Broom Racing Durmstrang-Uagadou vs Ilvermorny Summer 2025
[quote]
iNPC Summer Races: Brooms

It has been brought to our attention that many participants in the Summer Races did not believe that our locking of inventories would effect their choice in broom. Brooms were locked along with spells and potions during our inventory locking that took place on July 9th.

After deliberation, the Broom Racing Captains have voted to allow players to purchase and use brooms that were not present in their inventory at the time of inventory locking. This is under a few circumstances:

1. This broom must be in your inventory and declared in your first post of the race. These brooms must match.
2. If you do not declare a broom or do not post before the first deadline, you forfeit this opportunity and will default to riding a school broom.
3. This will not be a reoccurring event. During inventory locks, it is expected that you have already taken care of the items in your possession, including your broom.
4. This does not effect the deadline for either broom race. You still have 120 hours from the time the match was posted to post and declare the proper broom.

Feeling the wind in her pigtails, Devon smiled as she looked out to the stands. ‘I hope Kaitlyn comes to watch,’ she observed, letting her green eyes scan the stands briefly. There was no way for her to identify anyone at this distance, but she still held hope.

Holding a school broom, Devon knew this match was to be three against three. The broomracers from Ilvermorny versus the broomracers from Durmstrang and Uagadou. She was nervous, but also excited to be flying in the race.

At the starting line, Devon stood next to Cursa. She gently punched his arm. “Hey, we’ve got this. You, me, and Basil,” she said in a low voice with a confident smile.

Lovely Creature (Year 1) WC: 419
Reducio
Since she was a young girl, Devon was obsessed with her hair. She rarely wore it down to her shoulders. Instead, she liked having it styled differently. She chose even more intricate designs when she learned to do her hair. She enjoyed having the creativity of choosing a different hairstyle. Even now, at Ilvermorny, Devon tries out different hairstyles.

Devon was a dancer and enjoyed playing the violin. She had plenty of experience dressing up for dancing and playing at recitals. Compliments were given to her … and not just about her performance. “Devon is so pretty!” “Mom, can we ask Devon where she bought that dress from? It looks so lovely on her!” “Do you see the hairstyle Devon is using? It suits her!” It filled her with pride to know that people liked her and were willing to compliment her. Even more importantly, they were willing to compliment her on more than just her performance.

Devon took her time getting dressed and applying her makeup in the dressing room of her dance school and recitals. It took her so long that she’d have to arrive extra early. Yet, despite how long it took, she wanted to appear poised to perfection for her performances. As important as it was to entertain, she also needed to look good while doing so! Within the dressing room, she often helped the other girls with their hair and makeup, as well.

Once her ears were pierced, Devon became attached to wearing different types of earrings and would frequently wear mismatched earrings. She routinely followed the beat of her drum. She’d even wear mismatched socks whenever possible … if she ever wears socks. As much as she pays attention to fashion, she also likes to add her quirks to her dress sense. Between her jewelry and hairstyle, she makes sure she is remembered for being skilled and her appearance.

Just like with her clothing. Devon loves to wear dresses and skirts. With the Ilvermorny dress code the way it is, she always wears sandals. She loves wearing colorful clothing, as well. Bright colors filled her wardrobe, her favorites being the pastel colors. Despite the dress code, she always tries to look her best. Whenever she could, she enjoyed expressing herself even more with muggle clothing. She puts forth considerable time to ensure her clothing looks good and that she wears only a limited amount of make-up. As she grows older, she’ll spend that much more time applying the makeup she chooses to wear.

Calming Presence (Year 2) WC: 405
Reducio
Picture it. Devon was in the dressing room changing into a beautiful outfit for a violin recital or changing into a leotard so she could practice dancing. No matter what she’s doing, she stays calm and collected. She thinks about the upcoming competition but doesn’t let it get into her head. She knows she practiced well and that becoming nervous about the situation would not help. So, she kept her head calm and composed.

Even more so, Devon would comfort the other girls around her in the changing room of the dance studio and the auditorium. She’d do her best to calm their spirits, including the girls she was supposed to compete against. Even after a few minutes of talking to her, the other girls would feel calmer and less stressed. After all, Devon believed in a fair competition, where she’d test her skills in a head-to-head match. It would even the playing field, which made her much happier if she won (and made her humble if she lost).

Throughout her time in muggle school, Devon never stressed about her homework. She was pretty studious, in fact, and never let the pressure of an exam haunt her. She never experienced that annoying feeling of anxiety and stress. Her mind was perpetually at ease; her performances spoke volumes due to her never worrying. She knew she could do the work, knew that she studied a lot, and believed in herself. As such, she never attempted to second-guess her decisions or confidence.

When Devon came to Ilvermorny as the youngest child in her family, she already heard stories from her older siblings about the school. So, when she started, what occurred at the school felt like second nature to her. Taking part in the ceremony for her house didn’t stress her out. Although she was very happy to have been chosen by the Horned Serpent - it was the house she hoped would choose her. With all the magic all over the school, she did not show any extra worry about her abilities. Even though it was all new to her, she took each challenge with stride and a smile. She studied until her mind went numb and joined as many clubs and activities as she could manage. While she was always on the move, she was happy with her life and her decisions. Her presence was calm, and she exuded that feeling to those around her.

Prodigal Divination Learner (Year 3) WC: 582
Reducio
After her first year at Ilvermorny, Devon did not take the summer completely off. When her siblings bought their books, she enjoyed sneaking glances at her older brother’s books. There was one with a crystal ball and a giant eye! And one with … numbers! As such, she was immediately drawn to the Divination and Arithmancy textbooks (and was always good at math when she was in the muggle public schools). When she was able to, she snuck into his room and glanced through the pages of the book. She saw images of techniques she briefly heard about in the muggle world … palmistry, tarot cards, and tea reading! But she nearly dropped the book at the mention of Xylomancy! Tree-branch reading! That wasn’t something she heard of before … but it dealt with branches! And she loved being outside!

Taking very brief notes, Devon copied what the twigs actually meant. Furthermore, she even drew pictures. So, as she walked to Central Park to play soccer and meditate in the grass, she would practice trying Xylomancy. Having no idea if she was doing it correctly, she routinely confided in her best friend, Kaitlyn Connor (my PC). The girls had exchanged phone numbers before, so Devon started text messaging Kaitlyn with her findings.

The girls also routinely FaceTimed each other. Devon would be sitting in Central Park, showing Kaitlyn what she learned about the tree branches. They even video conferenced, drinking tea together to try to read the leaves. Any time Devon wasn’t talking to Kaitlyn, she was on her computer or phone, looking up tea reading. She was amazed at the prospect of being about to see the future.

When Devon came to Hogwarts for the Spring Soiree in 2025 during her second year, she met with Kaitlyn, and they read each other’s tea leaves. Devon also attempted Xylomancy again, but got even more confused. While she had a fun time with her best friend, she didn’t want to confuse herself further. When she left Hogwarts to go back to Ilvermorny, she promised to do more research. And research, she did!

A lot of her time was spent in the Ilvermorny library reading up on Divination. Devon also liked to spend time with her older sister, Rebecca, reading her Divination textbook, as well, while they painted each other’s fingernails and toenails. It made for a good way to pass the time, plus Devon liked it that her older sister supported her thirst for knowledge.

Naturally, when Devon went home for the summer holiday, she couldn’t do anything with magic. But, she constantly enjoyed drinking tea to read her leaves while FaceTiming Kaitlyn. She began to keep a journal of her readings. Lo and behold, she finally noticed a lot of them coming true. For the ones that didn’t, she noticed that she missed an interpretation that likely fit her circumstances better. All of this would be written in her journal. Naturally, she wasn’t a student of the class yet, but recording her thoughts would likely be helpful.

Now, with her third year approaching, Devon proudly bought her Divination and Arithmancy textbooks, along with a set of Tarot Cards. She could be routinely found taking very copious notes from the books, cross-checking her notes with what she had already tried out … all the while happily chatting with Kaitlyn. When it came time for choosing her new third-year classes, she checked Divination and Arithmancy immediately, happy to have the chance to properly learn the material.

Broom Racing Durmstrang-Uagadou vs Ilvermorny Summer 2025
Another year, another race on the international stage, and this time losing was not an option. Because he had already tasted sweet victory before it was snatched away from him, and he would again. Determined, strong willed, and with his usual portrayal of utmost confidence, he exchanged brief greetings before mounting. Although separated from the other teammates he was more familiar with and thrusted into an odd three against three match, that was no excuse for his performance to dip. The race was on.

01. Fearless
Reducio
If Hans Jenssen was a wolf, he would have been drunk on the scent of fear.

It had always clung to the family - mostly with subtlety, though sometimes more pungent than others – like how moist moss clung to rocks. Greta Jenssen, under maternal pressure, climate of opinion, and Durmstrang’s Dark Arts curriculum, came to truly understand the treachery of magic, through certain unsightly scenes she had experienced at the Institute. Combined with the traditional beliefs of devoted Christian Klaus Jenssen, the situation eventually aggravated to the point where they had become fearful of their own son, sending him to Durmstrang out of disease at his abilities. It was disgusting. It was pathetic. It was shameful.

It was all the motivation Hans required to be nothing like his predecessors. Ever since Hans’ accidental instances of magic became particularly noticeable to his parents, at around the age of ten, he had been told to dampen his powers, to stay wary of himself, to never allow emotions to get the better of him and for his magic to lose control, to fear himself. Of course, that was exactly what he did not. Hans saw fear as the weakness that held back her mother’s (once a successful witch) true potential and would only hold him back from what he could achieve. Fear was a wild land of doubts that required conquering and taming, so taming was what he would do. He would not heed to it, rather, he would make fear heed to him.

Reckless, they had called Hans, always the one to climb the highest tree (even when it seemed as if it could not support his weight), seek out the steepest route on a climb (even when the rocks seemed loose), dip into the deepest waters (even when the currents looked slightly too treacherous). He talked back to teachers, which only seemed to escalate any trouble he was in, disagreed with coaches, despite their strategies being flawless, and most importantly, disobeyed his parents, reading any texts he could get his hands on magic, fiction or not, all without a second thought or a droplet of fear about the following consequences. Yet like anything, fearlessness was a double-sided coin and to Otto Hoffman, Hans’ maternal grandfather, a quality, especially after he had witnessed the downfall of his own daughter. What started as courage was nurtured into a dare-devil nature, yet Otto withheld the belief that with his careful honing, it can become Hans strongest trait.

Perhaps, it did, but it also became one of his weakest. For he was not truly fearless. He was phobophobic, afraid of fear itself. How ironic.
02. Charmer
Reducio
It might seem to the casual eye that despite being from a magic-intolerant half-blood family, Hans Jenssen had every opportunity in front of him.

He seemed to be the main character of his custom-tailored chronicle, a spotlight following him as it does the lead singer, from the way he kept his eye contact, his head high, his posture straight yet relaxed, his clear articulation. He took easy initiative without much thought, able to rally all audience members with a chef's salad of humour, persuasion, passion, and casual, comfortable, confidence. He knows how to drive a point home and knows how to do it in a way so others would be behind him. As former team captain of his school's football team, leadership seems almost like second nature, something he almost derives strength from.

Hans has a certain composure to him that he almost never loses, an obviously positive yet seemingly careless nature. With friends and positive acquaintances, Hans feels like a ball of sunshine and positivity, all smiles, easy laughs, and radiations of enthusiasm. Such an upbeat aura draws others in with interest and causes them to want to spend time with the boy. He is actively assertive and outgoing, never against associating himself with new people as long as they share fairly similar values or interests. Once such associate have become those he could call friends, he is especially caring and loyal, trait that would only go on to draw in more people to befriend him.

However, perhaps do to his young age, he never takes anything quite that seriously, a flaw, certainly, yet exuding a peculiar innocent charm, especially popular among his classmates back in elementary school. This nature entailed a lighthearted and jovial outlook with a particularly nonchalant nature that was almost rarely seen in Durmstrang's prestigious and uptight environment. While Hans would argue that the academy required some relaxation from time to time, he also knows when to halt. Fun, games, and jests are certainly alright, but with professors, it always had to stop at a certain point for his grades to begin. He presents himself as eager to learn magic (which he is, due to not having been exposed to it for most of his life) yet not as a "teacher's pet" if one would. This did wonders at earning him respect in a condition where the powerful and successful were valued above others. Finding a balance seemed essential, as being too respected often led to intimidation, he found, as well as a much colder reputation than he desired.

What is charming? One might enquire such. If it had anything related to popularity and pleasantry with masses, then Hans was fairly quite the master.

you will burn and you will burn out; you will be healed and come back again. and i will wait for you.

The racers rushed off as the game started, it was surprisingly a very peaceful start. No one casting spells or attacking each other, at least not this early, it's different from the broom races at Hogwarts. Seems like the foreigners are a more peaceful bunch.

Fire breathing chicken - DC 20 eva

Durmstrang-Uagadou:
Hans - no spells cast, not attacked pass
Talvikki - no spells cast, not attacked pass

Ilvermorny:
Devon - no spells cast, not attacked Pass
Oddly enough, it seemed that two racers from Ilvermorny elected not to move or do anything at all really. Perhaps they need some time to get their bearings? The older Uagadou racer didn't do that, she grabbed one of the Durmstrang racers, Hans Jenssen, and just flung him forward. Very impressive, truly.

The three racers that did race forward, Kikki, Devon, and Hans, flew right past the fire-breathing chicken, maybe they were too fast for the chicken to react. As all three of them flew on by without so much as a singed robe. It would be cool - at least for Aston and the spectators - to see it in action though.
UNIT-5

Devon and Talvikki end here
By now Devon and Kikki have solidified their places at the start of the group. It wasn't all too hard to get here as the start of the track is fairly empty. Was it luck or skill that got them this far? Time will tell.
UNIT 7
Easy Snowfall - DC 11 sta

Durmstrang-Uagadou:
Hans sta: [d20 : 6] + 11 = 17, pass
And the final racer, thanks to the throw by Chuki Hans ended a bit further then the other racers. Leading at the front, he zoomed past the section easily, the snowfall seemingly not posing any sort of difficulty to him.

It was simple. All she had to do was fly. So she did, zipping past friends and foes alike, soon finding herself just behind a fellow Durmstrang Student, and side by side with an Ilvermorny one. They were in a good position, with their Uagadou teammate assisting by flinging the other northerner farther, and two of the Ilvermorny racers simply… out of it.

Biting back a twinge of sympathy she felt for the singular American that actually flew, Kikki pressed her lips together, firmly. No time for sympathy. She could look at the girl after the race and tell her that she’d had incompetent teammates later. As of right now, the object of her focus was simply her next move.

Perfectionist:

Stupid Colin and his stupid brooms!

Cursa wasn't sure what the broom's name was, but either way, he was going to clonk Colin over the head with it next he saw his cousin! Why wouldn't the stupid thing go!?

He watched as Devon zipped forward along with a couple other racers. He had come to like Devon. She was cool and he hoped she could pull off a win, even if he couldn't get his cousin's broom to work right!

Cursa vowed right then and there that as soon as he could, he would get his own broom and let Colin deal with this recalcitrant stick of wood!
