28th January 2024 - Morning
Bridget had been free of moderation duties last stage, which was a strange change of pace. It gave her a lot more time to just watch duels, but there was something valuable about the critical eye needed while you were the person right up against the stage's edge, watching as much of every movement as possible to ensure clean, fair competition. She was excited to be back, anyway, tasked with watching over a duel of her peers--she'd played this Ravenclaw team just back in November.

The buzz of anticipation that preceded any duel was perhaps especially loud here; this was Hogwarts' best. She'd faced the Ravenclaws before, had been on the other end of their skill and cohesion, but she'd actually never duelled any of these Hufflepuffs. That just made it better, a chance to witness both strength she was familiar with and strength that was a greater unknown.

"Welcome to the second day of the second stage of duels!" she announced, voice amplified from her spot center stage. "To my left, we'll have Phaedra Stavrou, Delilah Stewart, and Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood representing Ravenclaw." A momentary pause to allow for the cheers and whatnot. "And to my right, Amadea Campbell, Lindsey Springhall, and Jake Morris from Hufflepuff!

She waited until both teams had settled in their places, performing whatever pregame rituals they had--for Bridget, it was checking her hair was secured back and lining up her fingers with her wand's carvings. Once everyone looked ready, she offered a brief, "Best of luck to you both," before stepping off the stage.

Suspense built if you left them waiting for a few seconds--just a few, she was too used to pre-game nerves to leave them for long. Her duels had been run by Galton enough times now that she could see the appeal of a bit of dramatics. "Everyone ready? Begin!"

Aida strutted up to the piste with an owl on one shoulder, but it wasn’t duelling the wix was so proud of. Rather, it had been a good day talking with the merfolk at the lakeside and Aida felt optimistic about their linguistic progress. Making a strange laughing sound imitating the mermaids there, Aida spun an ancient-looking wand in their left hand.

"It’s time to win. Phaedra, Delilah, I’m counting on you!"

The sand-tone owl took off, gusting a wind through Aida's long hair, and found a perch in the farthest corner where its flame-like eyes would observe.

Okay, Lindsey had to say that she wasn’t as confident for this duel. Last stage the Hufflepuffs had a fantastic victory, and yet Lindsey was fidgeting with her hair before stepping onto the stage. One, today they were against the Ravenclaws, and Lindsey disliked having those quick-witted birds as duelling opponents (She had thrice failed under them. Thrice!). Two, big seventh years weren’t as friendly on duelling stages as they were turning up at school libraries as mentors - but in the meantime this applied to Amadea as well, and Lindsey found herself relax a little bit thinking of her two skilled teammates.

When Bridget announced their names, Lindsey finally stopped braiding her hair into different hairdos and swiftly switched it to a simple ponytail. She gripped her wand under the loud applause and anticipated atmosphere, and smiled at her two partners. Let all the uncertainty and anxiety dissipate and just focus on the duel itself. “We will surely do this, won’t we?”

It was officially the beginning of the second round of duelling, which meant that after this, Amadea would only have one duel left for her entire Hogwarts career. She tried not to dwell too much on that fact as she stood on the piste, surveying the scene around her. Not only did she have a different team this round, but they of course had new opponents as well. The Ravenclaws standing in front of her looked like formidable opponents, and Amadea felt as though much of the weight fell on her shoulders as the eldest duellist in their group. Of course, they would all work together as a team, but as the oldest, Amadea felt like she had more to prove to the team. She smiled over at Lindsey and Jake, forcing the swirl of thoughts to the back of her mind so she could focus on the imminent duel. She steadied herself, trying to be prepared for whatever the Ravenclaws would throw their way.

Phae and Aida, two of Dels most common duelling partners to date. She worked well with both of them so having them together was just wonderful and she couldn't ask for a better team. Del looked towards the opponents and smiled, they were younger years on average than the Ravenclaws, but she was sure they could hold up, Delilah had stopped underestimating people after a long time on the duelling team to humble her greatly.

Phaedra held a fixed gaze on the opposing team, wand tapping mindfully at her knee. Trust was a fickle thing, but she'd become somewhat of a believer having Aida and Delilah at her side. Today was not the trio's debut to Hogwarts' senior league, but with time and experience the pairing only enhanced each other's strengths akin to that of a well-oiled machine. A curious laughter drew Phaedra back to reality, and nodding, she took a battle-ready stance. “Likewise.” At least someone was in a playful mood.

Jake gulped as he held his wand. Just when he was getting more used to duelling...Today was the first time he'd ever dueled a seventh year. TWO seventh-years in fact. He didn't know how that had been decided. Could he really be at the top level of duelling now? It seemed like just yesterday he'd just started, but of course it had been years he'd been honing his skills. Still...seventh years?? He was so dead.

No, no. It was alright, really. He'd gotten much better at dodging, at casting, at keeping control of his nerves enough to aim under pressure. He just had to remember those things, remember his confidence, remember that he'd taken the worst the duelling chamber had to offer and surely nothing they did could be worth than being struck by lightning, right? Right?

Right.

"Umm....yeah! Definitely!" Jake said to Lindsey - it was always best to seem confident, especially when you were the captain. "We've definitely got this. For sure! He didn't feel very confident, but he hoped that wouldn't show in his voice (It did, a little).

28th January 2024 - Morning
Speed and sureness were everything in these senior duels. Moments of indecision or half-hearted casts just wouldn't do, not if you were here to win, and both teams immediately proved that they wouldn't be going down without a fight.

For Ravenclaw, they coordinated into a sort of one-two punch. Delilah was lightning-fast right off the bat, sending off a Trip Jinx that caught around Amadea and Lindsey's ankles just in time for the follow-up. Phaedra trapped the seniormost Hufflepuff in tight binds before she could regain her balance, and Aida caught Lindsey with a chest-full of flame; the girl had been so thrown off it didn't look like she'd had the chance to dodge at all.

As the little disasters and inconveniences struck, the badgers had not missed their own window of unimpeded casting. Lindsey sent crackling rain clouds into the air while she still had sights on the ceiling above Ravenclaw's head, and Amadea snuck out a split Flipendo before her arms were trapped to her sides. Phaedra avoided it expertly, but the blow to Delilah was solid and brutal. It was one of the loudest thuds Bridget had ever heard a Knockback Jinx make with a person, certainly at the school level. Most removed from the fray was Jake, sending a blindfold Phaedra's way. It missed, but not by very much. And now the stage was shaken up.

"Nice one, Phaedra!" called Aida, appreciating how well pinned-down Amadea had become. Smiling back at Delilah, the white wix laughed. The trip jinx was always so funny to watch, like some old-fashioned comedy skit. Aida’s target was now burning, and although satisfied, the Ravenclaw was a bit disappointed in not having come up with a more creative tactic. The others on the team are being so cool right now, thought the snowy-haired mage with a twinkle in each eye.

It was totally out of Lindsey’s expectation to be caught on fire again after all these years, not to mention that her ankles were bond, forcing her to try to stay balanced in a quirky way. That didn’t seem a very nice start, really, with Amadea bound by some upper year spell and herself so difficult to move around. It made her feel slightly better seeing her own Metelojinx was successfully sent above the Ravenclaws’ heads, and Lindsey gripped her wand tight, ready for a next move.
