Gnome Racing - Summer Competition

Generated by Dall-E AI by OpenAI
An hour had gone by after all the gnomes ran their first race, and everything was repaired, moved, and rested for the second race. Gnomes that had been damaged by flying brick traps in the speedway course were being fixed up with some quick magic, and the crowd was moving to a giant pile of books and shelves.
Among this crowd of contestants was Donald. He held his little yellow gnome in one hand while slowly waddling to the next spot. His gnome did not finish the last course. It was already falling asleep again in his hand. The Hufflepuff boy found himself feeling pretty demotivated about his chances. Despite this, he set the little creation onto the starting line and stood back with his arms crossed.
"Come on, do better this time!" Donald tried to say encouragingly to the animated object.
Before long, the staff in charge yelled out for everyone to place the gnomes and prepare. Soon it would begin, and this race would be more technical than the last. Maybe some gnomes would break... The books and bookshelves formed a parkour course of sorts for the little things to do. Donald was sure if his was awake, it would fall and break apart. Either way, that's a no finish.
OOC:
Contestants only. Spectator thread is here.
The race ends on Saturday Night, with the next race starting Sunday Afternoon. Please post by Saturday night, so we can stay on time for next race!

Gnome Racing - Summer Competition
Estelle had woken up late. She had meant to set her alarm the night before but had fallen asleep as soon as she hit the cloud-shaped pillows of her soft king-size bed.
She awoke to the sounds of cheering outside and rushed to a window. The first Gnome Race had already begun.
Cursing her own stupidity, Es raced through the tunnels of the unicorn cabin, pulling on her jacket and shoes. She had bought a specific outfit for this game and was very excited to wear it. The colours were similar to those of Lord Gnomington and she also wore sunglasses. Hopefully, it would be obvious that they were a team.
Estelle ran to the kitchen and grabbed herself a piece of toast and spread some butter and jam on it. The cheering had subsided and she suspected that the first race had ended.
Taking a bite out of her toast, Es grabbed her wand and left the cabin. Her predictions were correct - the first race had just ended. Her relentless optimistic attitude left her excited for the next race, rather than sad about missing the first.
She walked over to the tent and found Lord Gnomington. He had been enchanted and his attitude was just as expected - cocky and relaxed. His overconfidence annoyed her a little but she hoped it would lead to a win.
After a good deal of waiting, the race was about to start. Estelle placed Lord Gnomington on the starting line and listened as the countdown began.

𝓘t had officially been an hour since the first race had finished and Amadea was excited for the next one. The previous one had gone...alright. Bidget had gotten through it, at least. Amadea was impressed with the play on words a lot of students had used when naming their gnomes, though so many of them had the word 'gnome' in the name that it was a bit entertaining for Amadea. In her mind, that was equivalent to naming a human 'Human,' and the sheer thought of that was enough to make her want to chuckle out loud. Of course, as the students were now lining up their gnomes for the second race, Amadea realized how unsettling it would be if she were to suddenly just cackle aloud, so she refrained.
Bidget was definitely not one of the first gnomes to cross the finish line in the first race, but she had not been the last either. Along with many of her gnomely comrades, Bidget had gotten into quite a tussle with the spring-up brick, shooting her off course and costing some precious time before crossing the finish line. Nevertheless, Amadea was not deterred. This was all for fun, anyway. Plus, Bidget had come through the course (generally) unscathed so Amadea figured she could handle whatever it was that was coming next. Though of course, considering this was Hogwarts, maybe she shouldn't be making that assumption.
Amadea looked around to see if any of the previous students were there with her; specifically she was looking for Bloom who had wished her luck before the previous race. Amadea had not spent a significant amount of time with the Ravenclaw, but she knew that Bloom had plenty of mutual friends, including Serena, who she knew had just reconciled with Bloom. Perhaps this race would be a good place to get to know her more, but Amadea did not see Bloom anywhere and decided instead to focus on setting up Bidget for the race.
Despite her pep talk before the first race, Bidget had not exceeded her abilities performance wise, so Amadea opted not to talk to the non-sentient gnome this time and instead just place Bidget down with the other gnomes. As she stood back, ready for the race to begin, Amadea took a deep breath. Why was she so nervous? It wasn't like Amadea herself was participating in the race, and there were no stakes hanging on the line, so what was it that was making her so nervous? Amadea tried to still her breath as she waited for the countdown. "Go Bidget!" she cheered.

Gnome Racing - Summer Competition
Lorelai had woken up in a happy mood. She got out of her bunk bed and got dressed, in a simple outfit, since the only "big thing" that was happening was the gnome race. The girl was quite excited for this event, for no reason, the girl just was.
Lorelai was also very hungry, so once it was time to leave the cabin, she got there quickly. The girl ate rather quickly, since she was excited for the races.
Then, the first race happened. It all happened fast, too fast. The first race had gone fine, well, not the best, really. The time of her gnome, Mr. Burty Fizzingbuns was 120 seconds, which was one of the worst times. The worst being 125 seconds.
There wasn't a particular reason for the name of her nome. She just thought it was a good name for a gnome. Her sisters once talked about a boy named Bert in their class, so she modified the name to Burty. Fizzingbuns was a random thought in her head, and she always thought Mr. was a good idea.
The girl hoped her gnome would have a better time. She would cheer him on. Lorelai was actually very proud of her gnome.
Then, it was time for the race. She observed her gnome race.![]()

None; Please do not interact with, but feel free to mention!Calming Presence in Effect"I told you that we should have made this thing more maneuverable." Romeo spoke upwards to Piérre, who was still sitting on his shoulders. "Did you see how much it got slowed down by those bricks?"
Piérre only focused on readjusting the decorations of the mechagnome and shoving some loose springs back inside the creature's body, humming as he did so and lightly kicking his feet against his brother's ribs. "M-hm..." He trailed off as he mused. "Yeah, maneuverable... why won't this thing go back in where it's supposed to...?" He stated aloud.
Romeo shrugged beneath him, causing the boy to grip Romeo's hair lightly and evoking a small hiss from his stabilizer. "Ouch! Well, you did kind of make this thing haphazardly. Maybe something isn't fitting back together correctly? Maybe it got jostled?" The two of them continued walking to the next race track, parting the crowd easily as they were two people stacked on top of each other. "I swear, if the thing starts rattling apart I blame you."
Piérre snorted. "It's not gonna rattle apart. He's built tough, remember? Knives for hands."
"Knives for hands doesn't mean that it's shell is going to be able to handle being bashed or flung away by traps!"
"It means it's gonna shank the competition! Mua-ha-ha-ha!"
"If it survives long enough to get a hit off."
"It'll survive. You just gotta trust the process!"
"Mm."
When they reached the next area, the currently third place gnome--clasped in the arms of the excited boy who slid down from his brother's shoulders--was rushed to the line as quickly as the kid could manage, was set up and tidied so that he both looked put-together and functional enough to compete, and then checked for basic function to ensure the best chance of winning that it could have.
Satisfied with his checks, Piérre then rushed back to his brother and literally jumped into his twin's arms so that he could scamper up on the taller boy's shoulders and watch the show from the best seat in the house around two or three feet above the common-heighted person. When it came to trying to build things and make them work properly, I really wished that Piérre would finally realize that I really knew what I was talking about. It would have saved us a lot of strife if he had just listened to me the first time and had made something a little sturdier and flexible.
As my brother messed with the object, I strode over to the next competition's starting line. This one looked a bit trickier than the simple straight line that we had first been racing on. This one would likely call for more flexibility and quick recovery, something that 'Tiddlywink' simply wasn't in possession of were I to be completely honest with myself and Piérre.
Still, the promise of a battle royale by the end of things gave me at least a little flutter of hope; Piérre had indeed built this mechagnome to be brutal in combat. That had been something that had been a little surprising to me, that my brother would take measures to build the gnome that way... but perhaps it would have some tactical benefits yet. It remained to be seen, anyways.
I watched him set up the gnome before coming back in a hurry and scrabbling up to my shoulders like he was climbing a tree. I would be his personal first class box-seating, I guess.Tiddlywink's Stats: Endurance 4 | Strength 7 | Wit 4

July 25thThe Bookshelf Boulevard.
The Bookshelf Boulevard was a perfect name, and a perfect place for Tristan, as he himself was proudly a bookworm, even exploring the world of Muggle Literature as well. Perhaps this characteristic of his had spread to his gnome and allow him to win this time. Although his gnome had not fully lost last time, having tied third, he was slightly disappointed in its performance. The gnome had taken 120 seconds to finish the race, a very long time for such a short race. However, this was another race, another time, and another chance for success. So, Tristan wore the same clothes he had last week, his dark red turtleneck, and came with confidence into the track that had been reset for this second race. Placing his gnome Exelsior on to the race track, he leaned down with gentleness, and encouraged the gnome, “Hey, I know you can do this, please win for me, I need the prize…” After he did so, he looked around at all the other gnomes in place, the last place gnome of Donald, that was quite sleepy, the first place gnomes, and all the ones that had tied with Tristan. He took in the sights and observed everyone carefully. Then, he wished his gnome one more time, good luck and waited for the race to begin. July 28, 2023 (11:19 pm)In the results of the first race, Ara's gnome, Sir Fickley Puffilysnot Jr., was near dead last. He was timed at 120 seconds, and the last placer was timed at 125. At least there were many at the same time as Sir Puffilysnot. The girl was disappointed, but not like it ruined her life or anything, so the disappointment ended quickly.
Sir Fickely Puffilysnot Jr. was fixed, and now it was the second race, full of stacks of books and many bookshelves. Ara felt terrible for the perfectly fine books that were going to be stepped on by the gnomes because she was a total bookworm. She gave Sir Puffilysnot a little pep talk before placing him at the starting point. "Just do your best. As long as we don't lose horribly, We'll be fine," she said, placing the gnome on the starting point. She still had hope for Sir Puffilysnot, mainly because he wasn't dead last at the first race. Ara hoped the best for her gnome but also hoped that the ones who lost wouldn't be sore losers.
The countdown then started. 3... 2... 1... GO! As the countdown ended, the second race had begun, and the gnomes were off!Fickley Puffilysnot Jr.

Gnome Racing - Summer Competition
"YESS! GO YORICK!" Laughter bubbled into her shouts and cheers, bouncing as she watched the gnomes traverse their way through The Speedway. Kit hadn't really expected her gnome to be one of the ones up in front, but it was a nice surprise to see Sir Roy dodging all of the stones that lifted up from the road. It was even more impressive when the gnome managed to tie some other gnomes for first. This was a good start to the day, happy to have this success regardless of how the rest ended up. She continued to watch though as other gnomes made their way through the course and to the finish line, clapping at their victories or wincing as an unfortunate brick caused their stumbling- and yet there wasn't too much time difference between the first and the last, everyone finishing in barely over 2 minutes. Blue-green eyes glimpsed around just to make sure there was no one left before she nodded and headed off to check on Yorick Roy.
Asides from some scratches, he was still intact and doing well. Plus within the hour those scratches would be easily patched up, leaving plenty of time for Kit and Yorick to simply... be. She'd spend most of the time teaching the gnome stretches to prepare for the next course with varying degrees of success as Yorick Roy had little care to follow the girl's instructions. The gnome was here for the races, Kit could respect that although she wished that she'd get a little more than blank stares back.
"Alright Yorick- you did really well last time, just keep that up. This course looks super cool, so have some fun!" It was true, racing through Bookshelf Boulevard was something Kit wanted to do if she could- surely they wouldn't notice that a fourth year switching places with a gnome? But no, the Beauxbatons student didn't really want to disqualify herself or Yorick from the competition, instead opting to continue her cheering role and watch the race!

Reuben got Evergreen in line for the second part of the race. Evergreen had come second in the first part, and this time, Reuben was determined to get first place. Well, maybe not that determined, but still somewhat determined.
During the race he had met Zophyr once again, and they'd talked a bit. Reuben still remembered how anti-social Zophyr had seemed the first time they met, and he was actually glad to see that that was changing. He smiled at Zophyr as they talked. It was always good to be in the company of a friend. To Reuben's surprise, Zophyr had not known that Reuben knew how to speak Arabic.
Reuben cheered his gnome as it went, hoping that the gnome would pass all the obstacles. It was good to see how organized everything was and how nicely the summer camp planners had planned out the whole thing. It required so much effort, and Reuben wondered how much time had gone into making it all possible. He really wished there was a way of thanking everyone and giving them something in return for all their effort. Maybe there was... But the question was, what was it? HOw could they thank everyone? Maybe a party would work, but that would require a team of people, and Reuben wasn't sure how many would be ready to participate.

Gnome Racing - Summer Competition

Role-Playing as Angelique Selemine from Koldovstoretz
She was honestly looking very frail after the first race. It was just one race, but Bella-Daisy was already seemingly on the peril and looking dejected but happy. True, she tied second place and was very proud - hopefully the books around were going to help her if she was a witty gnome. There was still time to try and win - and of course, have fun.
Angelique looked at Bella-Daisy fondly, as if a pet and muttered to her some words of encourgament
"Well done, little Bella, you still have a chance to play again! I'm proud of you to have done this, and remember, I'll be cheering on for you like anything. I know you're a clever gnome really, aren't you, Daisy? Oh, its time. Knock 'em dead, princess." The last comment was added out of pure spur of the moment wording and the angelic expression on the gnome's face.
It was time to start. The whistle blew, and Angelique looked towards the race track hopefully.
"Go Bella-Daisy!" She yelled, nearly going hoarse. She didn't want to see the gnome disappointed, especially after it tried to hard to win the first round. Coming second was good - hadn't it taken 110 second nearly for her to get to the other side?
