Imogen Hughes and Theodore Prescott were not in love when they got married. Both were from esteemed, noble families of the pureblood society, and they knew it was their duty. From the eyes of a imposing, blood-purity obsessed mother, it was a perfect match. Imogen and Theodore never truly loved each other, though, but they tolerated each other, and that was enough. Together, they settled into a large manor on the coasts of England, all with their own private section of the beach.

But they knew what was expected of them. Soon enough, Imogen was pregnant. The entire Prescott family waited in anticipation for what would—hopefully—be an heir.

The family was pleased when a little baby boy was born. Alexander Prescott was perfect in every shape and form. He followed his parents’ orders dutifully and never, ever complained. Everyone knew Alexander would be just like his parents.

Four years later, Catriona Valerie Prescott was born, along with her sister Niamh. Identical twins, who didn’t quite follow their parents, but followed each other everywhere. They were as close as sisters could be and were there for each other when their parents weren’t.

Catriona and Niamh were raised as typical purebloods. They had private tutors and nannies that tailed them everywhere they went. They were not permitted to speak to other children their ages unless their parents approved of it. All of their whims were obeyed. With enough money to buy the world, they were given anything a little girl might hope for. Toys, clothes, and other pretty little trinkets—nothing was out of reach for the Prescott twins.

But they were always in the background. Alexander was the main focus, the golden boy, the next head of the Prescott name. All Cat and Neve needed to do were be perfect little pureblood wives to whoever their parents arranged them to.

[FIOM] Catriona was getting a little impatient. Her nanny had left the room to fetch some water for her, since she’d told her that she was thirsty, but she was gone for some time. The four-year-old had no concept of time, and even though the nanny had only been gone for mere minutes, Catriona was already bored. She wanted to get her favorite toy … but where was it?

When she spotted it, it was all the way across the massive bedroom. And even though Catriona could already walk, she didn’t want to, and it was so, so far away. What to do?

When Catriona looked back at the toy, it was floating in the air and slowly flying over to settle itself in Catriona’s lap. She was overjoyed, and when the nanny came back with Catriona’s water, Catriona had already forgotten that she’d been thirsty in the first place.
