The sun shining, birds chirping, the smell of freshly blooming flowers. Miles revealed his house at Ilvermorny as Beatrice got up. He was a Thunderbird. Beatrice knew fairly little about the houses and school in general and she wondered what Thunderbird was the equivalent to. Could it even be considered a house? Probably, yes. Beatrice had no idea what Miles would be in Hogwarts or what she would sort him in, as this was the first time she had even thought about that. Her focus had been completely on talking to him. In the meantime of her thoughts sorting out, Miles had gathered up the popsicle sticks and taken her hand in his as he stood up. Her eyes landed on him briefly as he was suddenly quite close to her. His voice was low when he thanked her and Beatrice had to swallow a lump that was forming in her throat. She realized now that he was in fact quite tall. Gladly the very flustering situation ended soon because the dark haired Slytherin had had no idea what she could have said.

After introducing Miles to Edith, Calliope and Benedict and a lot of hands and mouths cleaning -either from the ice cream itself or sticky popsicle sticks- Miles spoke to her siblings, who smiled and nodded at him. Only Edith replied with “The pleasure is ours Miles.” she had always been the most polite after Beatrice. Of course Benedict and Calliope were too but they just didn't know what it meant to be a Dupont quite yet. It hadn't just occurred once that she had to remind them of their manners, rather it was an ever occuring phenomenon. She looked from Edith, who seemed a little flustered in the presence of their company, back to Miles and smiled at him. It wasn't the first time that she had taken care of her siblings on her own or pushed them into the right lane in public but she hoped this didn't look to him like she thought that kids had to be like this. Of course they should be polite but sometimes she wished she could see them actually acting like kids somewhere else than in the safety of their own rooms.

Calliope's eyes lit up at Miles' mention of the chalk drawn obstacles he had placed on the ground on their way, secretly Beatrice very much wished that her siblings would in fact take the opportunity and hop across the chalk, dance in circles and not care about other wealthy families watching them. As the three started running off Beatrice turned back to Miles to ask him to walk with her, however, he allowed her to go first. A small smile spread across her lips. „Try to keep up, they aren't slow and I am not a slow walker either.” With that, she hurried after her siblings, hoping Miles would actually follow. She had trouble keeping up with her siblings but saw them actually jump and spin around on the chalk drawing that Miles had so easily brought to the cobblestones. 'Avoid the dragons!,' stood in one of the areas, which Beatrice smiled at. Her siblings rushed into Dogweed and Deathcap before her and only when she finally reached the door, she could look back and hold it open for the boy that was hopefully still there. „So, any favorite plants?” she would ask once they were inside and if he had in fact followed them.

Maybe more than you bargained for, Beatrice Dupont

He stepped halfway into the door and then placed his hand flat upon it so now he was holding the door for her and she could sort of casually come underneath him to enter. It seemed Beatrice was quite big on formalities and so was he. A gentleman always held the door for a lady.

"I've many favorite plants," he stated upon them entering the store, this time was his second time around.

"Welcome, welcome!" an older shopkeeper greeted them all as they entered. The plant store was relatively dark, but the further you walked in and toward the windows, the brighter it got. Of course, the plants that needed the most sun filtered that way and currently Miles and Beatrice was more where there was less light.

"Mr. Thatcher, back again, are we?" he blinked, as if attempting to recognize the boy. Miles just smiled and gave him a half-nod sort of greeting. He really didn't need reminded of his boredom there at Diagon Alley that day. Earlier, he had spent more than a far considerable amount of time in this very store and knew where practically every single plant was.

"I always found snowdrops to be quite beautiful," he said and gently picked up one of the delicate white flowers nearby, treating it with care. "They're viewed as a symbol of hope and can bloom even in snowfall where most plants would not even make the attempt."

There was a purple flower that was somewhat shimmering and once he had placed the snowdrops down, he picked this one up gently. "There's Belladonna, which name literally means beautiful lady. The small flowers are pretty, the berries appealing, and yet every part of the plant is poisonous. You've got to watch out for this one." It was still beneficial though in many ways, and used in medicines, cosmetics, and poisons.

Another customer was making they're way into the store and Miles placed the purple flower back and stepped so they could get through, bringing himself closer to the girl he had met at the ice cream parlor.

"Pardon me," he said low once more as his hand came up to steady himself so not to bump into the lady who just came in or his new friend. It brushed against a plant hanging above them and he glanced up to see the bunch of mistletoe, tied off with a gold ribbon.

Even as a pureblood wizard, he knew the tradition that was standing under mistletoe - it was one that crossed over from all humans, magical and nonmagic. "...It's not even Christmastime," he whispered, his eyes finding her dark ones despite the low lighting around them.

Momentarily, Miles was unsure on what to do. He had just met her and she and her siblings were his temporary salvation from nearly dying from boredom that afternoon and yet, was this an opportunity one should pass up? How many could say that they fell into such a predicament so quickly upon meeting someone and ceased it? He was a Thunderbird after all, and they sought out adventure.

Miles smiled to her, his eyes still locked with hers and he leaned down to bring his lips to her own.

Beatrice smiled at Miles as he caught up with them, placing a hand on the door she was holding. She looked up for a mere moment, debating how to get through the door, before she just squeezed beneath his arm and slipped into the shop. Technically she really didn't have to squeeze through, there had been enough space. However, if someone would have watched them, they would have seen Beatrice squeezing against the door and kind of awkwardly making her way into the shop. Miles stated that he had many favorite plants and Beatrice was eager to hear about them but before she could continue asking, a gentle voice distracted her attention from the older boy she was with. Her gaze focused on an elderly man, the owner of the shop. Her eyes had to adjust for a second before she could fully see everything. The light difference from outside and the inside of the shop was certainly a difference when you first walked in. Apparently the shopkeeper recognized Miles because he called him by his last name. Beatrice gave the elderly man a kind smile and said a small hello before they went deeper into the store. She could hear her siblings laugh at something and just prayed to Merlin they wouldn't rip off the petals of a plant or destroy something in this shop in any other way. Usually they were well behaved but who knew what they'd do when there was such a small amount of people around.

Focusing back on Miles' words, she watched as he picked up one of the snowdrops standing in the shop. These delicate white flowers were in fact quite beautiful and graceful in a way. Beatrice did know some things about plants but the way Miles talked about them made her want to listen to things she had already read. She wanted to hear them being said by him. Beatrice loved it when someone had a passion for something and could explain and actually talk about it. A small smile pulled on her neutral face expression as she listened. Miles picked up a purple flower next. Belladonna. Beatrice knew of it's healing qualities but even enjoyed hearing that it was pretty and poisonous. The fact that a large amount of plants could be so pretty yet kill you so easily was quite intriguing and certainly an interesting subject. Beatrice's eyes were busy studying some more plants so she barely noticed another costumer entering the shop. Only when Miles actually stepped closer to let the person pass, her gaze disconnected from the plants and turned upwards. Miles was certainly closer now and as her gaze went further up to see what he was looking at, Beatrice was quite unsure what she was feeling. He mumbled something and their eyes met again. Electric blue meeting a mix of ocean and earth. Beatrice's eyebrows furrowed ever so slightly as Miles started leaning down. Her heart started beating so fast, it felt unhealthy. His smile and- before Beatrice could really think her actions through, she slowly stood up on her tippy toes and very gently met his lips. This boy that she had just met. This boy that had played with popsicle sticks on the ground in front of the ice cream parlour. This boy that had to keep his good reputation just as much as she did. This boy who's lips were touching her own. This boy who's shoulder her hand was now very gently placed on.
Mr. Miles Thatcher has Ms. Beatrice Dupont very much confused and flustered.

After the kiss with @Beatrice Dupont

Miles was no expert at kissing girls and seemed to realize it just as their lips met - but their lips met! She hadn't shoved him away or slapped him across the face; instead, she had returned the kiss. When he pulled back, his eyes watched her, hoping that he hadn't upset her, after all, not everyone kissed someone they just met - Miles certainly hadn't before now. He also had her siblings to consider and hoped that they weren't going to give her grief about this or perhaps report back to her parents and cause her to be in some sort of trouble.

With the other shopper no longer immediately behind him, Miles eased back, but his blue eyes remained on her brown ones. "That was the most exciting part of my afternoon," he whispered softly with a smile.

Miles was about to say more when the shopkeeper could be heard saying loudly throughout the store, "OH NO, NO! DO NOT TOUCH THAT PLANT! IT BITES!" just before a little boy crying could be heard. Quickly looking over his shoulder, Miles could see a little boy toward the corner with his finger still chomped between the 'mouth' of a plant and his mother was scolding him and pointing to the nearby sign that said DO NOT TOUCH! PLANT WILL BITE!

"He's lucky that's just a Biting Snapdragon and not a Venomous Tentacula."

Beatrice's heart was thundering in her chest even after their lips had parted and Miles had leaned back. Her eyes had widened, panic swinging within them and the butterflies that had tickled in her stomach had now turned to a sickening swarm of wings pounding inside her. She could hear blood pounding in her ears and the blush that covered her cheeks and nose, hid the fact that she was currently becoming rather pale. This had not been supposed to happen. She had a reputation to uphold. She could absolutely not go around kissing boys she had just met. Kissing anyone really. Especially not out in the open for everyone to see. Her parents would disown her if she brought a bad name to their family. That was absolutely not what she was supposed to do. Beatrice barely heard what Miles said but a smile still settled on her lips. It was an uneasy one. There was a sharp piercing noice in her ears and she had to unnoticeably grab the shelf besides them just so she had something to hold on. A little boy crying brought her back to reality. She blinked a couple times, her eyes were still fixated on the blue eyed boy. Eventually Beatrice forced her gaze away from him and stared at the little boy. Miles said something that normally would have made her chuckle and normally Beatrice would have answered. However, in this particular situation the words simply failed to leave her mouth. It was like they got stuck in her throat. Instead, a disoriented „Mmhh, excuse me for a second.“ came from her as she pressed herself past Miles and stumbled into a more light and populated area of the shop. Edith came up to her and asked something to which Beatrice just nodded, brushing her hand through her hair with a rather confused feeling inside her. That could not happen again.

Retreating from @Beatrice Dupont

Excuse me for a second.

The words repeated in his mind twice over. The uneasy smile.

What had he just done?

No. No, this wasn't right.

Miles felt frozen in place, not sure what he would talk to her about now - not even an opening sentence for when she returned. It was going to be awkward now and an agonizingly bored day at Diagon Alley was better than an awkward one. He felt awful for disrupting this friendship that they were establishing and he'd be thankful for the momentary relief that she and her siblings brought to his day, but it needed to be over. Wayyyy over.

Why had he even done it in the first place? Yes, she was pretty and all, but it wasn't like he was some experienced kisser who went around kissing lots of people. He had only kissed one other if he put the thought into it and that had ended just as badly. It had been perhaps his closest friendship and when that friendship was pushed to more, it dissolved into now avoidance and friends had become strangers.

That's what was needing to happen in this situation. He was too mortified to figure out how to continue their interaction. As her sister came to talk to her, Miles seized the opportunity and dashed off, out of Dogweed & Deathcap and away from sight.

Miles has left the thread.
