To meet @Beatrice Dupont

It took three Popsicle sticks to make a triangle and four Popsicle sticks to make a square or a diamond. Four, using three to make a triangle and adding a smaller one coming downward from the middle made a Christmas tree. Four, laid diagonally, could make a snowflake. Three could make what resembled a dragonfly and four, again, could be made to look like a diamond shaped fish. It took sixteen of the sticks to create his name.

Yes, these were the brilliant discoveries made by Miles Thatcher during one of his days of Spring Break.

He had already gone in Dogweed & Deathcap, where he had purchased a few potion ingredients that he had been running low on. Sometimes too it was nice to browse what ingredients were currently trending in the wizarding world.

He had made his way to Quality Quidditch Supplies, where he took a look at some of the brooms available for sale. The Starsweeper XXI looked nice and, of course, they had a new shipment of Firebolts in, but Miles was used to his Silver Arrow and declined a new purchase - even if he had enough galleons in his pocket to do so.

The Magical Menagerie struck his interest only as far as to take a peek through the storefront window which caused him to realize that they were quite busy and, well, he would surely soon have his fill of magical creatures during this break. He had wanted to spend it back home in Oxbourne, Washington with his grandmother and her house elf Lissa, but his parents had insisted on him accompanying them on their book signing to London and their other ventures during his Spring Break holiday from Ilvermorny School of Magic. After all, they had announced his bethrothment at the Winter Break, and now it was time to show off their "happy" pureblood family as they participated in such pureblood customs.

Currently, Miles was seated outside, finishing the touches on his S in MILES made with his leftover sticks as he ignored the stomach ache that was growing by the moment. He had tried multiples of every flavor of Popsicle that Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour offered: Berry Blues, Creamsicles, Rainbows, Strawberry Over Creams, and more.

Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)

The spring was coming and that was certain. Beatrice was still wearing see through tights with her skirts but she did not need a coat on this sunny day. It was finally spring break and Beatrice was actually enjoying being at home for once. Hogwarts had somehow been kind of a mess or at least Beatrice had been one. Now that she was at home, she was far more collected. To the outside at least. Today the Duponts were taking a stroll in Diagon Ally, doing some shopping and just showing of what a perfect and beautiful family they were. Beatrice had heard that there was a new book being presented in Flourish and Blotts today and she would certainly take a look at that. Edith, Benedict and Calliope were exited to finally get out of the house again and do something with their parents and older sister, while Beatrice knew that this was not all that fun for her parents. It was like one of those muggle horse shows, only about looks, money and power.

After quite some time in Flourish and Blotts as well as a visit in Gringotts Wizarding Bank with her parents, Beatrice and her siblings were finally allowed to roam around the Alley and visit the shops they wished. Beatrice had bought a new book in Flourish and Blotts so she didn't want to go back there, since there was also a long line coming out of the shop. Her parents had told her to also take care of her siblings while they were doing some other stuff so Beatrice had to let herself get dragged to a bunch of different shops. She didn't mind going to the Quality Quidditch Supplies shop or spending what felt like an eternity in Weasly's Wizard Wheeze but when Edith, Calliope and Benedict dragged her into the Magical Menagerie, the fun was over for Beatrice. The shop was packed with people and she had to squeeze herself through sweaty bodies to be able to follow her siblings.

Gladly that was soon over and Calliope, along with Benedict and Edith, decided that they should go have Ice Cream at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. Her Parents had given each of them some galleons to buy themselves what they wanted and let's just say, Beatrice could have afforded one of the brooms. Her arm felt like it was going to get ripped out as her three younger siblings pulled her with them.
»Guys, for Merlin's sake please slow down.« she tried to make them go slower but it was already too late. They let Beatrice's arm go, yanking her one last step before they were through the door and gone into Florence's. Beatrice stumbled a few steps, kicking popsicle sticks everywhere. She wasn't sure what had happened for a second before she turned around to see where they had come from.

A boy, a couple years older was sitting on the floor and apparently had been doing something with these popsicle sticks. Her eyes went wide as she immediately started to pick up the popsicle sticks.
»I'm so sorry, I really didn't mean to do that!« she told him, a grimace spreading across her face as she felt how sticky the sticks were. Oh gosh, had the boy eaten all of these? She didn't take more than 30 seconds to have them all in her hands. Then Beatrice kneeled down in front of him and laid the popsicles down in front of him. There was something that looked like an M on the floor, he was probably spelling something with these. Wow, this boy must have a boring day. Then she really looked at him for the first time. His hair was brown and his blue eyes almost seemed electric. Beatrice parted for a few seconds. Has she seen this boy before? No but why did he seem so familiar then?
»I'm really sorry, again.« she said then. »Did I ruin your popsicle art or whatever you are doing with these?« at the last part of the sentence, she grinned a little at him. Hopefully her siblings wouldn't eat too much ice cream in there.

Apologies with @Beatrice Dupont

The door swung open as it had so many other times during the long duration that he had been there. Whether it was shopping trips that lasted a little too long or the bright sunshine outside, but something seemed to spark the idea to take in a tasty frozen treat at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour on that Spring day - or several many frozen treats, as in the instance of Miles Thatcher.

He had just finished the last Popsicle stick to make out the S in MILES when in came more customers to the ice cream store. One, two, three, four - all connected by holding hands until the front of[/music] the line broke free from the back of the line and the girl in back stumbled forward, knocking nearly all his sticks askew.

Before he could say anything at all, she was knelt down there before him, helping him pick up the sticks and instantly it was now Miles who was the one who felt sorry. Some of the Popsicle sticks were still sticky, with small traces of the sugar, corn syrup, gum, stabilizers, and probably even his saliva on it. He couldn't help but look at her in a somewhat horrified and yet somewhat amused manner.

She apologized. Twice.

Perhaps it was he who should be doing the apologizing. He was the one who was working on his masterpiece so close to the door. It was he who was now spreading his germs to her - one wooden Popsicle stick at a time.

She asked if he had ruined his art - or whatever he was doing with the sticks - and then smiled a little. At least she didn't seem upset. He, too, had no reason to be.

Still, he couldn't help himself. He couldn't resist the temptation to over-exaggerate.

"Or whatever I am doing with these?"
he repeated. He then paused for dramatic effect. "My dear, this whatever wasn't just Popsicle art, but FINE ART - the kind of art you find in galleries; the kind of art you find in museums. This Popsicle art was going to be world renowned and put my name out there as not just an artist, but the most famous artist to ever be! It was going to be my claim to fame and I was going to sell it for galleons upon galleons until not only would I not have to work a day in my life but my children's children would never have to work. It was my LIVELIHOOD!"

And he sighed deeply, looking at the now open area of flooring that occupied the space after his 'M' and acted as though he just didn't know what to do with his life anymore, as if all purpose was now missing. "...Actually, it was just my name. Although, I must admit, it was much more creative than the triangle shape that I started with," he added and presented her with a smile to finally show there was no hard feelings. He was pretty sure though through his thick exaggeration that somewhere within his rant earlier she would pick up on the fact that he was only teasing her - in good fun, not in the bully sort of way.

"Hopefully there's still some Popsicles left in this place for those that want them. If so, my apologies if I ate the last ones."

Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)

Beatrice send another glance to the door of Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour before turning her head bad to the boy. She subtly took out a tissue from her pocket and wiped her hands from the still slightly sticky popsicle sticks. She raised an eyebrow as the boy went on about how this was his art. He said it would have been his claim to fait and Beatrice couldn't help herself but grin at his words. When he called it his Livelihood, Beatrice had long taken notice of the fact that he was clearly joking. She just nodded as he talked and then watched as he sighed deeply and directed his gaze to the popsicle sticks that were laid together like an 'M'. His accent sounded so different to her own and Beatrice wondered where he was from.
»Is that so?« she asked with a grin. »Well then I must apologize dearly Mister M. I shall pay for whatever I have destroyed so you must not worry about the well being of your future children.« Beatrice said this in a heavy posh accent, she picked up a leave, handing it to the boy. »This must be more than enough for such a work of art, worth more than any gold my kind Sir.« she looked him up and down again with a grin as he went on to tell her that it was actually just his name and that he had attampted a triangle before this. She did not know why but she could not stop smiling in this conversation, this was certainly entertaining and better than watching the twins get themselves full of ice cream while Edith tried to get as many test-bites of Ice Cream as the workers would allow.

The boy now smiled at her as well. She looked down at the popsicle sticks and then looked up again as he joked that there might not be enough popsicles left now. She laughed, looking to the door again and then actually sitting down in front of him.
»Oh do not worry, if you haven't eaten them all, my siblings will finish the job for you.« she said with a smile. »So, M, huh? My name is Beatrice and since I have walked into your name, it is only right to help you rebuild it.« she said. Then Beatrice took a long look all over Diagon Ally, or at least where her eyes could reach, to see if her Parents were anywhere close. They probably wouldn't like it if the saw her sitting on the floor, outside at that, with a random boy they had never seen. Or at least Beatrice thought they had never seen him.
»Now you must tell me, why are you sitting on the floor in Diagon Alley, all by yourself while it's such a beautiful day? You could certainly do more interesting things here.« she said, mindlessly twirling a popsicle stick between her fingers. She wondered how old this boy was. He seemed older than her and he was certainly taller and Beatrice couldn't remember seeing him at Hogwarts but he had to be from some school and a wizard or he wouldn't be sitting here.

Sorry @Beatrice Dupont, but you asked him what he had been doing

Miles took the leaf from her hand and examined it closely - flipping it over, and then back, as if he was some appraiser trying to figure out it's worth. He then glanced back to her, squinting his eyes in a skeptical manner, before looking back to the leaf. "Alright, payment made in full. You're lucky that this is quite a valuable leaf, indeed." And it was, more so than the popsicicle sticks that were sadly made from trees. At least the leaf was a fond remembrance of nature, not the destruction of it.

He would have guessed her next step would be to state her farewell and head further into the ice cream shop to where her friends or family scattered off to. Instead, she surprised him by coming to sit next to him and offered to help him rebuild. Truly there was no need - he was just trying to satisfy his boredom for the eighth hour now in Diagon Alley. "Why, I thank you Beatrice for helping me rebuild," he said and smiled, trying to figure out her accent as well.

"That would be Miles, M-I-L-E-S," he said, pausing momentarily because wasn't there really only one way to spell such a name? This wasn't like Brian/Bryan that could be Brian or Bryan or Aiden/Aidan/Ayden. "And I did do more interesting things. I stopped by Quality Quidditch Supplies to check out their new inventory. I purchased the newest edition of Seeker Weekly and Quidditch Times Magazine," he paused to reach over behind a planter and show them, "and read them both all the way through, twice."

"I also checked out Madam Malkins and the Apothecary Shop, as well as Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. I walked around the streets. A peddler is selling fake designer watches in the Northern alleyway, some kids were playing some sort of game of tag towards the South. There are three hundred and thirty-three cobblestone steps between Flourish and Blotts and Ollivanders. The Magical Menagerie has a sale on toads, if you're interested, but only the ones with brown not the green. That's the Netterjack Toad, not the Common Toad or Western Green Toad, or Spotted Toad."

"It's going on the eight hour mark and I've resigned myself to this ice cream parlour, first partaking in the product, and now working on my artwork with the rounded birchwood sticks of my disposal." Poor trees....but at least the sticks were biodegradable and probably would do so in a year's time. Had he properly illustrated his boredom? Most likely.

"My parents at doing an author talk and book signing at Flourish and Blotts to promote their new book, Flights of Fancy. I've been doing my best not to be driven mad as I wait for them to finish, but at least now I've seemed to find myself in pleasant company. You uh, you go to Hogwarts?"
he wasn't quite sure of the accent, but it sounded either Scottish or British and either way, that would place her into jurisdiction of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Beatrice watched as he examined the leaf and grinned at this interaction. Usually she probably wouldn't have acted like this but this boy had a silly behavior to him, in some way or another, and that brought Beatrice to just roll with it. He was very nice and just brought some sort of ease in this moment. Beatrice didn't feel like she had to act in the manner her parents expected her to right now. Her past months had been rather dark in some ways. Things had happened at Hogwarts, one of them being her best friend leaving for good. Her best friend who she had shared a dorm and so many other things with. For once, being home had felt like a good thing and even tho this day had started as a stroll to show off the Dupont Family, Beatrice had been having a great time since that was over. Her siblings had annoyed her a little and it had been boring but the growing blossoms on the trees and the fresh spring breeze was just leading Beatrice into having a good mood. He thanked her for her offer to rebuild this, uh.., this masterpiece which was actually just his name. Then he introduced himself. Miles. M-I-L-E-S. Beatrice grinned as he spelled it for her. Miles seemed to realize that there weren't a whole lot of ways to spell his name. Same for the name Beatrice, she didn't know a different way to spell her name but there surely was one. Beatrice leaned over a little and started helping with the rebuild of his name. While doing that, she listened to him telling her what he had been doing her all day. His list was a mix of Quality Quidditch Supplies, Madam Malkins, the Apothecary Shop and Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. He had been wandering around Diagon Ally and even counted how many cobblestone steps there were between Flourish and Blotts and Ollivanders. Apparently there was a sale on toads in the Magical Menagerie but only on the ones with brown. The poor boy had been here for around 8 hours and was so bored that he had eaten a lot of ice cream popsicles and then build his name out of them. Goodness, that was boring. Her hand stopped and hovered over the 'L' she was building with the sticks when Miles told her that his parents were doing an author talk and book signing at Flourish and Blotts. Her eyes widened and she sat up, looking at him with a surprised expression. Miles asked if she was a student at Hogwarts.
»Yes. Yes I do go to Hogwarts.« she paused for a second. »Your parents are Aldrich and Emmeline Thatcher? The famous magizoologists?« Beatrice had read some of their published things but she didn't know that they had a son. She had been about to ask Miles if he had eaten anything proper this day or at least drank some water since only popsicle's didn't sound that good but now her mind was somewhere else. His parents had let him wander around Diagon Ally all alone by himself the whole day and he didn't have anyone to talk to, that must have sucked.
She fastly shook all of the thoughts about his parents out of her head.
»Sorry, I did not mean to react like this. It sucks that your parents let you wander around all alone this long. I suspect you go to Ilvermorny then? You do live in America, don't you?« Beatrice had read some interviews that his parents had given. »Sorry, that sounds like I'm a creepy stalker.« she smiled at him apologetically and finished building the 'L'. Beatrice thought about what she could offer Miles to make his day at least a little more exciting than this. Sitting around here all by himself certainly wasn't nice. »If you want to, you can walk around with me and my siblings once they are done with their ice cream?« she asked and looked at the door of Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. »I mean, it's probably not that much more interesting than sitting here but I was going to take them to Dogweed & Deathcap since we've also been pretty much everywhere else. They mostly sell plants there. It's nice. My parents will also be busy for some more hours. I don't actually know what they are doing, they might have left and come back later to get us.« she told him and picked up another leaf that laid beside her. It was a fresh, green leaf. Someone must have picked it off a plant and thrown it away after. She twirled it between her fingers mindlessly and looked at it. Hopefully Miles didn't think she was weird now, she certainly had acted a little weird.

My apologies @Beatrice Dupont, he gets a little flirty at the end

"Some say famous, I say pompous and overbearing," he shrugged, speaking of his parents. He then glanced toward the door and sort of wished he hadn't said that aloud. Sure, his parents were something but that didn't mean he had to speak so ill of them in public - especially since they were in Diagon Alley for them. It was like spreading bad publicity and he wished he could take it back, but honestly, there was no proper way to retract his statement. It wasn't as if he could defend them on how they were good parents - because they weren't.

"They do know their craft, I'll give them that - know quite a bit about magical creatures; discovered some new species and all."

It was easy when they had a lot of dedication and time toward their career which was quite easy because they didn't have to attend to any obligations like parenting.

He got to another topic when she asked if he lived in America. Either his accent gave it away, as he was from the Pacific Northwest and therefore had that 'news accent' that so many strived for, or as Americans would think of it as a non-accent sort of accent. Maybe though being from Hogwarts she witnessed his crash-and-burn humiliating failure of a first task for the Hexwizard Tournament.

As he finished up placing the last popscicle stick down for the bottom part of his S, he looked back at the masterpiece. "It's so beautiful. I mean, really, have you ever seen anything more aesthetically pleasing as this? Wouldn't you want this up on the wall in your bedroom or dormitory? It should be in a museum. At least we got to admire it one more time....."

Miles looked over to her and smiled as he thought about what she had just said. "You apologized for sounding like a creepy stalker which begs me to ask, ARE you a creepy stalker? Well, let me rephrase. You're not creepy, you're actually quite helpful and enjoyable to talk to and your eyes and smile are rather pretty so you're certainly not creepy. I'll try again. You apologized for sounding like a stalker, which begs me to ask, ARE you a stalker?"

He tilted his head in an oh-so-curious manner.

"I must ask, especially since you're inviting me to walk with you. How do I know you won't attempt to kidnap me and hold me captive? But you do mention plants and well, plants are my favorite, so take me, Beatrice, I'm yours."

Pompous and Overbearing. Both were words that Beatrice had thought about her parents in the silence of her room at night. However, she at least had siblings that she could talk to. Miles seemed to be alone here and Beatrices features almost seemed to turn to pity, but she would not allow it. She eyed the brown haired boy while he seemed to be lost in his thoughts. Miles appeared to be regretting his words and tried to to somehow want to retread them, with saying that his parents did know their work. Beatrice agreed. She liked to read about magical creatures and sometimes the people that had discovered them or wrote something about them. Miles' parents were apart of those people. Beatrice would simply nod understandingly and stare at the popsicle sticks. They sat there in silence for quite some time before Beatrice spoke up and asked if the blue eyed boy was from America. At this point, Beatrice was unsure if she had seen him before or not. If he did go to Ilvermorny, he surely would have been there for the tournament and Fall Ball. Although, if Beatrice was honest, she had not cared enough to watch the tasks in her first months. Sure she heard about them but she had been too busy, trying to keep up with the school work and pleasing her parents. It was an odd feeling how she still had to do that, even when she was not at home.

Soon they had switched subjects and as Miles finished the "S" of his name, both of them were just staring at it. He seemed to be pleased with their work and Beatrice had to hide her grin when he asked if she wouldn't want this in her dorm or Bedroom. „Of course. Who would not love seeing this every time they wake up? Such a masterpiece should be sold for thousands of galleons and hung up in a museum with the most expensive pieces of all time.” Her voice was fully serious but the smile that was pulling on her lips could tell anyone that walked by that she was joking a little. A little more time went by and the sun was shining brightly on both of them, leaving Beatrice with a nice warmth. It really was beautiful how spring was coming and bringing all this warmth with it. The cobblestones beneath them were not even cold anymore, the sun was already strong enough to warm them up. Beatrice looked up when Miles started speaking again and as a smile formed on his lips, so did one on hers. It would not fade when he asked if she was a creepy stalker but it would change when a hidden compliment flooded from his lips. Perhaps it had grown wider as her eyes practically locked on the boy across from her. Perhaps it had changed ever so slightly and perhaps her heart had skipped just a little bit at the compliment of someone that seemed so nice and was so enjoyable to talk to. As he tilted his head, her eyes squinted ever so slightly in a witty expression. He asked how he would know that Beatrice would not attempt to kidnap him and hold him captive but he would just have to find that out if he decided to come along. "But you do mention plants and well, plants are my favorite, so take me, Beatrice, I'm yours." The dark haired girl did not how to feel about what he had just said. I'm yours. Of course it was in a joking way and she knew but Miles was different than other people she had talked to. Perhaps it was the difference between the free America (that they prided themselves on so heavily) and Scotland or perhaps it was just the way he acted in such a charming yet joking and chill manner. He was not like the boys she had talked to at school, those were mostly di**heads if Beatrice was honest.

Well, perhaps you must find out if I will take you captive. What do you think Miles?” her smile broke into a small chuckle after her words. She glanced at the door and as if her siblings had sensed that she was ready to go, they came out with their mouths covered in different colored ice cream. Her face grimaced a bit as she looked at them but then she got up, wiped her hands at her skirt and stuck one of them out to help Miles up. It was up to him if he would take it. Then once both of them stood, she turned to her siblings. Before all else, she quickly handed all three some tissues and told them to get that off of their mouths, they could not be seen like this. Then she turned back to Miles. „Miles, those are Edith, Calliope and Benedict.” she pointed at each of them swiftly before turning to them, „This is Miles. He'll be spending some time with us.” she did not say the rest of the day because Beatrice did not know how long Miles could tolerate these three but he could stay with them as long as he wished.

From ice cream toward plants with @Beatrice Dupont

"I am a Thunderbird and we're all about adventure and risk," he said as she got up and extended out a hand to him. He used one hand to gather up all the popsicle sticks and the other to take her hand into his and brought himself to a standing position that had somehow been quite close to her.

"Thank you, Miss Beatrice," he'd say in a low voice. Normally he would have used her last name only he didn't know it yet. He wasn't sure which was better - already being on a first name basis and being past some of the formalities or only knowing a only first name of someone and making it nearly impossible to find them.

Maybe he was in the worst of the two situations.

He stepped to a nearby trash receptacle as she handed off some tissues and placed the popsicle sticks inside before taking a napkin for himself and wiping off his hands as she made the introductions of her siblings. Beatrice, Edith, Calliope, and Benedict. Four kids. and all with traditional yet elegant sounding names.

And he was stuck with a name like Miles.

Something about his name always annoyed him. His parents were Emmaline and Aldrich, both quite fancy names and yet they named him Miles: Miles Riley Thatcher. Oh well, at least it looked good as it was spelled out with popsicle sticks.

"Pleasure to meet you Edith, Calliope, and Benedict." Edith seemed to be the next oldest, but surely out of the entire sibling group Beatrice was the oldest and therefore seemed to have the usual task of forced maturity that came with it in taking care of them. He could tell this was by far her first time in charge of the younger three and that must be both stressful and taxing; no matter how well behaved they were.

"We're off to look at some plants. On the way to the shoppe, keep your eyes down. I made a sort of obstacle course earlier on the cobblestones." It was one of those sort of sensory motor sidewalk chalk obstacle courses. It had some squiggly lines to follow that looped, a hopscotch area that said 'avoid the dragons!,' some places to hop, some places to spin. It was amazing what one could do with a couple pieces of found chalk and endless amounts of time.

Hopefully, if Beatrice's siblings had any spark of fun, adventure, or curiosity in them, they would enjoy it. "I'll allow you to go first, Miss Beatrice. I'm keeping a watchful eye on you." She did want to hold him captive, after all.

Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)
