Backstory

Family History	Reducio The Hawthorne family has been around for as long as anyone can remember. This family of purebloods take pride in their wizarding ancestry and will protect it - regardless of the consequences. It is no surprise to anyone that all the Hawthorne's have been Sorted into Slytherin in the past. As all those families who are proud to have their name continued, the Hawthorne's firmly view it to be a necessity to have at least one son in the next generation to continue the legacy. This has taken on an additional pressure: the family business. The Hawthorne's are potioneers, owning their own shop for the last several hundred years. They love to boast about their entrepreneurial spirit and how no one brews quite like the Hawthorne's can. Since it is a family business, sons are fully responsible for taking over when their father deems them ready for it. Levi is the fifteenth Hawthorne first-born son. His second name is after his father, Jones, who married the lovely Alice Warren in 2005 when they were both in their early 20s. After a few years of trying, they had Levi and were very proud to present him to the rest of the family in their Cambridge estate where he was born. Alice - Levi's mother - isn't very close to her own parents anymore. They firmly believe that muggles and wizard should live together, and wizards shouldn't take too much pride in their heritage. Obviously, these values did not connect well with the Hawthorne's, though they are pleased that Alice has not taken on these qualities and firmly enjoys her life with the pureblood-side. Three years after the birth of Levi, his little sister Kahira was born, finishing up the perfect family with both a son and daughter.
Growing up	Reducio As can be expected, little Levi did not have any shortage at all for toys and attention. His strong family history meant there was enough time to save up a fortune in Gringotts and buy a family home that was extraordinarily big. Both Levi and Kahira had their own halls with a room that can only be deemed extravagant due to its sheer size. They were also homeschooled, as their parents deemed regular schools to be beneath their children and could easily afford it. Levi has always been considered the golden child. He was a happy child, who was never afraid to ask for more. Whether it be knowledge, toys, food or pets. Levi simply could never see the use in limiting expenses when there was so much to be around. However, his bond with his parents can be seen as a bit strained. His mother may be a warm, loving creature who enjoys spending loads of time with her son, his father mostly was absent and working for the potion company his family owns. His father also very much doubts whether Levi truly has what it takes to follow in his footsteps, as the little boy often seems to lose his attention and drift elsewhere. No matter, Levi feels none of the pressure. His father's harsh attitude? Simply a character trait that can be avoided and go unnoticed if you buy enough toy broomsticks or teddy bears. Besides, Levi knows from an early age that as the first-born son, he WILL be the one to take over the successful business later. Whereas his sister will likely simply get married and have children, while looking at him from afar. Yes, Levi knows little Kahira is a lot smarter than he is. She studies hard and doesn't seem as keen to receive big gifts, other than books. But she is only his sister, and truly... He has nothing to fear, or so he thinks. Everything is set in motion for him to live up to his golden child expectations.
Accidental Magic	Reducio Unsurprisingly given his upbringing, Levi's first instance of magic included a temper tantrum. This was brought upon when his sister celebrated her birthday and got quite a large cake. In fact, it was much bigger than the cake Levi had gotten just before. He also got denied the opportunity to eat the first bite and blow out the candles, so like every 7 year old would naturally not do, Levi started getting irrationally angry. This anger, however, turned into quite a conundrum as it managed to blow out the candles, as well as flip over the table the cake was on. In true character, his parents responded by being mostly proud that their little boy had shown such a strong suit of magic - rather than sending him off to his room. And he got a new cake for it that was slightly bigger than his sister's. Naturally, this did not help in attempts to humble him a little.
Getting the Letter	Reducio After his curious case of accidental magic, it was no surprise to finally receive a Hogwarts Admission letter at age eleven. Nevertheless, this was cause for a celebration with the rest of the family. Everyone came over, grandfather and grandmother, aunts and uncles. Of course everyone is eager to see the next in line go to school and learn to become a decent wizard with actual skills. However, there is one thing they care about even more: the right Sorting. After all, it would be quite embarrassing if Levi would have to return the various green and silver Slytherin memorabilia by ending up in a different House. For the first time, Levi felt a slight hint of pressure. What if he would end up in a different House?
Going to Hogwarts	Reducio With his shiny new books, Remembrall and costumes - name neatly sowed into the label - Levi was ready to go. His parents wanted him to have the full experience, so together they travelled to King's Cross. With Kahira in tow as well, Levi felt extremely giddy. He rarely could sit still in regular situations, but meeting all the other children and actually learning to use his wand... That was the ultimate test. As he ran through the gate, paying no attention to the various muggles on the platforms around it, he felt a rush like no other. This only grew stronger when he saw the Hogwarts Express, huffing and puffing and ready to leave within fifteen minutes of his arrival. He allowed his father to put his heavy luggage in a special cabin, said hello to some of the other pureblood families they'd known for years and got ready to go on the train. Full of nerves, but mostly excitement, Levi was ready to take on the world.
Gryffindor?!	Reducio Considering Levi's entire family had bought him countless presents and memorabilia that would've looked absolutely smoking in Slytherin, Levi definitely had a... moment, when the Sorting Hat was placed on his head and stayed on for a bit before announcing to the whole world that Levi Hawthorne was in fact: a Gryffindor. You'd think the only possible reaction to this dreadful moment for all Hawthorne's would be fear, but Levi secretly felt himself relax. Because if anything, he was glad that maybe this would be a chance to become something different than was expected of him. That is, if his family would ever forgive him.
