A P P E A R A N C E

Always in the lowest percentiles, Alora will likely always be short unless she hits a growth spurt. In class, she's always the shortest, which has its advantages and disadvantages. Though from the beaches of the southern end of England, she's got the pale English glow which hints of freckles across her cheeks and nose in the warmer months and vanishes come the cooler ones. Her features are soft and pixie-like and her heart-shaped face seems to light up when she smiles or laughs. When in position of power or defiance she tends to lift her chin, a stark contrast to how quiet and small she can make herself when she desires or when she wishes to avoid confrontation. Eye contact is something she avoids.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Although her childhood might not have been the happiest one, she's always been considered a resilient child. Her situation may have her be considered at risk due to a number of factors, mainly family and environmental, but her personality says otherwise. As the youngest she feels neglected and ignored (or overwhelmed and way too controlled). It seems like there’s no in between. Either everyone is in her business or she’s left to her own devices (quite literally- she’s a bit of a technology buff for her age meaning she can access the content she wants on her terms). Though the baby she’s had to do a lot of her own upbringing making her independent despite hating being alone.

She knows how to make friends, and especially how to spot the biggest kid on the playground and make sure to stay on their good side. Though somewhat opportunistic, she's kindhearted and highly intelligent in the emotional sense. She's highly acute interpersonally, and not so much intrapersonally. When it comes to rules, she likes to see them as guidelines. They're certainly important, yes, but they were made to be broken, and used to her advantage (hey, she might make a great lawyer some day!). Not being physically advantaged has forced her to be cunning. She's street smart, and certainly outgoing, but she can also be quiet and observing when she needs to be. Her personality is shaped by her surrounding. Where she might be the life of the party in the common room, she'll be a studious mouse in the classroom. When it comes to rule breaking, she isn't as impulsive as she appears. She's very calculating, even when she seems not to be. In a nutshell, she's an eleven year old learning the ins and outs of hierarchy and social structure.

FIRST INSTANCE OF MAGIC

Being short meant heights were always an enemy for Alora. One morning, when she was six, she was the first up and wanted some breakfast. The fry pan was overhead, so naturally, she climbed the counter to reach it but having the grace of a newborn giraffe, she, the canisters on the counter, and the pan all came down though none ever hit the ground. At least not at first. Logan had been in the doorframe with Ursula, frozen in place as they watched the youngest Graves suspended in mid-air surrounded by a number of objects. Of course, the moment eyes met, everything came crashing down with a clatter.

Currently, Alora has no amorous inclinations. Therefore, coming close to amortentia would likely result in a neutral smell as she feels no attraction to any genders or inclinations so far.

Faced by a boggart, the creature would take the form of her brother Logan's body. She couldn't imagine a world without him. Sometimes, even being at Hogwarts feels like too much distance with her eldest sibling.

LIFE BEFORE HOGWARTS

Alora was born the seventh child of the Graves family. Though she and her siblings don't share the same father, they all share the same mother and last name. You see, Christine Graves had trouble in matters of the heart because to those not magically inclined, coming from a magical universe was problematic at best, and to many in the magical community, being a squib was undesirable in most cases. For many years she refused the help of her siblings, if only because she didn’t want them to “take her son away” from them, though sometimes she feels Hogwarts did that just fine.

When Alora was born, her situation could have been dire, but she was lucky in a sense. Her aunt Ursula, who had just moved back to Falmouth with her husband, was home to help her mother out a lot, and her brother Logan took on a bit of a father role within the family home, having graduated from Hogwarts himself. It seemed after seven children a truce had come across the family, though it was more a stalemate. As the firstborn and first magical child of the household, Logan was the very first positive role model in her existence, and a true show of perseverance (with a side of mischief). Though there were five siblings born after him, none displayed magical abilities until Alora, which also caused quite a bit of grievance, while also strengthening her bond with her older brother and her extended family her other siblings barely knew nor cared to meet.

Alora attended muggle school, and was treated much like her siblings despite having shown magic. It was important for her mother for her to understand the hardships of life without magic before heading of to Hogwarts. She didn't mind it, she enjoyed making friends, even if her siblings tried to do what siblings did best. She had a small group of friends, and though she wanted to talk to them about what she did know of that magical world yonder (which was only what Logan told her), she never did. It was another world, and soon enough, she would be off to Scotland to study magic. Just thinking about it sounded too good to be true. Like the time her siblings convinced her stepping into a ring of mushrooms would let her see faeries or the time she'd gotten in trouble for setting a trap for santa, and really just hitting her mom in the head with a pan on a pully system (not like she hadn't had help, but even then she hadn't said anything.).

I want someone that she might not get along with at first, but somehow they end up having to work together and grow to find that their differences are more than just adversity. I want it to bloom into a beautiful long lasting and healthy friendship. Though the end game is for a nice steady friendship, I'm not opposed to tribulations and trials along the way, perhaps even a year of estrangement.
