Forward Dating

As we have a number of players that are choosing to remain first years, their ability to embed themselves into the community has been limited. Threads can be forward dated for all RP threads up to 3 months. This means that on June 11 you are able to post a RP forward dated as far ahead as Sept 11.

What is Forward Dating?
The date of a thread is defined by the first post. As such, threads are assumed to take place on the date that the thread has started, within a few days of the thread starting (for example if the thread starts on a Saturday and the thread is taking place in a classroom, it would be on Friday) unless otherwise stated. A player can backdate a thread as far back as they wish and they can normally forward date a thread up to 3 months. Basically it is a declaration that the thread started on a specific day.
What are the Rules of Forward Dating?
A player can normally forward-date up to 3 month from the start of a thread.
Is there anything we should know?
We always recommend caution when a user forward dates. The "first" experiences you have here may prevent you from participating in other group activities. Your experiences are often built off the past and you have skipped over this past. This can make it hard to take part in group activities.
Example: If there is an event or an activity that happens on the first or the second day of school, such as an ogre attacks your common room. Your character might find it hard to fully participate in this activity because there might be other participants that you have "already met" in character weeks later. Your lack of a time turner or a TARDIS will make it hard for you to take part in these group activities.
Another potential issue is not noticing that someone is forward dating a thread. Please make sure that you read the first-post of a thread fully, do not assume that a thread if forward dated (or not forward dating).
Example: is a first year graduating and IC looking forward to the end of the year and summer and starts a thread. A new player who will be in their first year this coming Sept will need to take part in a forward dated thread. That thread maker will need to be roleplaying as a second year or the soon to be first year will not be able to join the thread.

Is there anything I have to do to forward date my thread?
You need to be clear about when this forward date is in your starter post (and ideally each of your posts in the thread) so that joining players are aware of when this thread is taking place. This can be done by simply posting - Date: Sept 2, 2026 at the top of your post.

Please Stop Breaking Rules

Please stop intentionally breaking site rules.

Claiming that something was done "on a dare" or "as a joke" does not excuse the behavior - if anything, it makes the situation worse because it demonstrates that the rulebreaking was deliberate rather than accidental.

We have been extremely patient and accommodating, but this behavior is becoming disruptive and a waste of staff time.

This includes, but is not limited to:
  • sending random or intentionally uncomfortable messages to staff members
  • using knowingly rule-breaking avatars or profile content
  • creating chaos for amusement
  • encouraging others to break rules
  • treating moderation as a joke or challenge

Let me be very clear: continued behavior of this nature will result in restrictions being placed on accounts. I have the ability to remove access to:
  • owls/messages
  • avatars/signatures
  • specific forum areas
  • or other site functions as necessary
If the behavior continues, those tools will be used.

Please stop testing boundaries and start exercising basic common sense and respect for the community.

Adulthood

Image

This is our third graduating class on site. This is a remarkable achievement because these players for the most part stuck to a single character for years. We are graduating the present 7th years on or around July 1, this means that these players will need to be registered with Index by July 1. You can verify if you are registered with Index by looking for your name in this thread. Index Cleaning will be done around June 1, so this is the most up to date resource. This graduation occurs passively unless you have reached out to your Head of House and asked to be held back.

As an adult account, you will not notice any difference in your basic site permissions, you will still be able to access active threads as well as past threads. Obviously as an adult it will not make sense for your character to continue to be at this school after gradation, but you will still be able to backdate threads if there was some story you still needed to complete. However, your adult account will no longer be earning a scholarship or stipend from the common room as you have previous years. It is student accounts (or staff) that earn money, so you will start earning money once your student character is validated.

Graduated Adults will be eligible to create their new student character as soon as July 2 as long as their student character is given an adult status. Graduated users will be able to have up to 2 characters at once, their adult character as well as their student character. A user cannot have 2 student characters. Staff members who have had an adult account for the purpose of staff work no longer need to delete their staff adult if they are former staff. This does mean they would be able to have 2 adult accounts in addition to their new student. Graduated adults can register for their new student character by posting in this thread. Once you have registered your new student in this thread, you can create your new character as normal, this thread notifies the validation team that you are not a multi-account. If someone erroneously believes you are a multi-account, please simply refer them to this thread.

For player characters that are graduating but maintain a role as a Prefect or Captain, as these roles are tied to a specific house, we will offer the option of force-sorting so that you can maintain your role. You are welcome to "roll the dice" on things and be sorted, but this is a decision that would need to be made before you enter the sorting ceremony. If you plan to be force sorted, there is a place to mention this in the application. We will do our best to accomodate you. If you wish to have the full experience, we thank you for your time with us in the roles you had and look forward to what you will bring with your new character. We only ask that you give your team and head of house warning so we can open up applications before you step down from your role.

Graduated Adults, including iNPCs will be eligible to pick or update their job on their adult character as soon as July 1 and this will remain open until August 31. This is accomplished in this thread. Please note, some jobs have prerequisites, such as having another (lower level) job before or having certain OWLS and/or NEWTS completed. These OWLS or NEWTS would need to be done before you apply for your job.

Account Security & Identity Reminder

A reminder to all members:

Please do not pretend to be someone else using your account. This includes claims that a sibling, friend, partner, roommate, or other third party has "taken over" your account and is posting on your behalf.

Whether intended as a joke, a way to avoid responsibility, or an attempt to explain behavior, these situations are disruptive to moderation and create unnecessary confusion within the community.

Your account is your responsibility.

If another person is genuinely accessing your account, then that is an account security issue. If someone else uses your account to post, send messages, break rules, harass users, or otherwise cause problems, you remain responsible for the activity that occurs on that account.

If your account has actually been compromised:
  • Change your password immediately.
  • Enable additional account security measures where available.
  • Contact staff if assistance is needed.

If your account has not been compromised, please do not claim that another person is responsible for actions taken on your account.

Moderation decisions will be based on the activity that occurred on the account, regardless of who is claimed to have been behind the keyboard at the time.

Thank you for your cooperation.

2026 Hogwarts Pride:
The Boat Parade (Errand)
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, it's my greatest honour to welcome you all to Pride Month! Celebrated in the month of June in both the magical and Muggle worlds alike, this is the time in which we come together to commemorate those who have come before us and those who are members of the queer community today. We celebrate in June due to that being the same month as the 1969 Stonewall protests and as a reminder that we're here and we're queer! No matter what your label or your letter, you are loved and supported here as a member of the LGBTQIAP+ community. Happy Pride, everyone. 🏳️‍🌈

In celebration of Pride at Hogwarts, Aly Salinger (my student account) and Charlotte Winfield have set up a boat parade errand- sign ups here and mass thread here 💕 Whether your character is part of the community or is an ally, you are welcome to come and decorate a boat by yourself or with a small group of friends (or just hang out and snack on our themed foods). After the errand is over, we'll host a parade thread in which everyone can show off their handiwork and celebrate Pride Month once more! 🌈 🚣

Pride Month

June is recognized by many members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community as Pride Month.

Pride Month is observed in June because it traces its roots to the Stonewall Riots of June 1969 in New York City. While LGBTQIA+ people have always existed, Stonewall became a turning point that helped spark a broader movement for visibility, dignity, and equal treatment under the law.

One thing that is sometimes forgotten is that gender diversity is not new, nor is it limited to any one country or culture. Throughout history, many societies have recognized identities and social roles outside of a strict male/female binary. Examples include Hijra communities in South Asia, Two-Spirit traditions traditions among some Indigenous peoples of North America, Fa'afafine in Samoa, and Māhū in Hawaii and Tahiti. These traditions are not identical to modern understandings of gender identity, but they remind us that human experiences of gender have always been diverse.

Historically, LGBTQIA+ individuals have often faced significant challenges. In many places, people were criminalized, excluded from institutions, denied employment or housing, rejected by family members, or treated as though their identity was a medical condition that needed to be "fixed." For many, this meant living with fear, shame, isolation, or the constant threat of discrimination simply because of who they were or who they loved.

The last several decades have seen remarkable progress. Homosexuality was removed from major psychiatric classifications, same-sex marriage became legal in an increasing number of countries, and legal protections expanded for many LGBTQIA+ individuals. Countries such as the Netherlands, Canada, Argentina, Germany, Australia, Cuba, and many others have each played a role in advancing recognition and rights in different ways.

At the same time, progress has not been universal. Today, same-sex relationships remain criminalized in dozens of countries. In some parts of the world, LGBTQIA+ individuals still face imprisonment, violence, severe legal penalties, or worse. Access to healthcare, legal recognition, marriage, adoption, and anti-discrimination protections continues to vary significantly depending on where a person lives.

That is one reason Pride Month remains important. It is a celebration, certainly, but it is also an opportunity to reflect on history, recognize the people who fought for the rights many enjoy today, and acknowledge that there is still work to be done.

Our community includes people from many backgrounds, cultures, beliefs, identities, and life experiences. Whatever our differences may be, we ask that members continue to treat one another with kindness, respect, and basic human decency.

To our LGBTQIA+ members: we hope you have a safe, welcoming, and joyful Pride Month.

Happy Pride Month.

A brief reminder: please do not lie about yourself.

We do not expect you to dox yourself. We do not expect you to share your real name, exact location, employer, school, or any other personal information. In fact, we generally encourage members to maintain reasonable privacy online.

What we do expect is honesty.

There is a difference between keeping personal information private and fabricating information about yourself. If you do not wish to answer a question, simply say so. If you wish to keep something private, keep it private. You are under no obligation to share details about your real life with anyone here.

However, repeatedly inventing stories, identities, accomplishments, illnesses, relationships, or personal circumstances damages trust within the community. While our characters may be fictional, many of the friendships and connections people form out of character are very real. Those relationships are built on trust, and trust becomes difficult to maintain when members discover they have been misled.

Recently, there have been instances where information shared by individuals has not aligned with known facts. I do not care if you choose to keep your personal life private. I support that decision. What I do care about is honesty in communication.

If you do not want to answer a question, say "I'd rather not share." That is a perfectly acceptable response.

What is not acceptable is making things up.

Please be mindful of this moving forward.
