Potions had always been a thing for Anastasia. Clear instructions. Ingredients mixed together to create something useful. The brewing process, how you made a potion with your hands. It was not like spells that came with a feeling, an incantation. Sure spells came from you, but they weren’t really made by you. If it makes sense. Whatever, it made sense in her mind.
Some wizard kids grow up throwing out fake spells, imitating their parents, with a simple stick. Or at least Peter and Elizabeth, her cousins, did that a lot. But Anastasia, she preferred brewing fake potions. She could often be found near the estate’s small lake, with some kind of pot, mixing the lake’s water with leaves, rocks, insects and whatever she found around her. She has a few memories of those potioneer escapades.
Three career paths had fascinated her for the major part of the past decade. Astronomer, potioneer, and alchemist. Two out of three required her to be really good at potion brewing, which is what she started putting her mind into during her fifth year. With the OWLs coming, Anastasia couldn’t really afford to focus on one subject in particular, especially how she wanted to solely focus on potions, while staying at a good enough level in other subjects.
So there she was, summer before sixth year, OWLs in her pocket, living with Peter in her new house in London, school supplies freshly bought. She read through the sixth year’s potion handbook a few times, brewing the ones that seemed interesting, with her cousin doing the wand movement when needed since she wasn’t allowed to yet. Over the month of August, the basement became a potion lab, with various fresh and dry ingredients in glass jars, things she could buy at Dogweed & Deathcap, or at the Apothecary shop on Diagon’s Alley.
By the end of the summer, she basically knew all of this year’s class material on the back of her hand, and was left wondering why she hadn’t been doing that earlier. Now that she was learning about and brewing these potions before the year started, she just felt obviousness, like of course she had learned all of it, it just made sense.
She still watched the stars at night. Still laid down in the small garden with Peter, watching the stars and naming constellations. But more and more, potions became more serious than astronomy as a career path.

Siobhan's potions accident should have shied her away from ever touching a cauldron again. The impairment she received as part of the explosion has made it increasingly difficult for her to navigate the school and understand the basics of her surroundings as well as her homework. In Potions class, Siobhan was reluctant to even pick up the ladle once again. But something about the reduced ability in skill gave her more determination to not let the subject disallow her from keeping up with her peers. With her disability, the fear of being "out of place" became more pronounced and Siobhan found herself hunched over her cauldron or studying the limited braille available to her, only to maintain her skills.
To accurately brew her potions, Siobhan utilizes an old trick that some blind individuals developed for eating. When conducting any sort of brewery, her entire work station is set up in the face of a clock. At the center, the cauldron. To the numbers of 12, 3, 6, and 9, her ladle, wand, crystal phials, and stirring stick. Her wand is always at the number 3 which is her right side and allows her the easiest access to the tool in case of emergencies. Siobhan will spend time outside of her potions lessons practicing her set up and break down of her work station to ensure that during classes and exams there is nothing that she could misplace or forget about important safety precautions. Reduced sight means that any additional smoke, or the wrong ingredient in the wrong spot could prove to be perilous for both her, and her classmates.
Part of Siobhan's potions studies have been a detailed inventory of the Student Accessible Potions Store room. Having taken a list of any ingredient that she can buy herself without the need for a graduate license, she has bought and keeps in her dorm room to study as best she can. Without the ability to see, she relies on smell, feel, and occasionally the help of a partner who may or may not be around her. To Siobhan, she has had to work much harder to memorize the texture and feeling of certain ingredients and the accsessible labels that she has made for the more dangerous ones such as Bubotuber Pus, Sulfur, Snake Fangs, and Doxy Eggs. Everything is organized alphabetically and kept in a personalized Potions trunk that she repurposed after thrifting it from a local shop in Killarney.
In addition to studying potions and their historical context, Siobhan has begun to translate everything that she has discovered about her skills as a blind potioneer onto parchment, keeping detailed notes about everything she has accomplished thus far in her school years. The art of potions making is a delicate sport and Siobhan believes that blind or not, there is something about her need to record as much information down about her struggles as possible. Being able to showcase what she has been able to accomplish would mean that her

For Bartholomew Lindenmomo, the chaotic and hyperactive environment of Hogwarts often feels quite overwhelming. As an observant and introverted musician, he constantly seeks out quiet corners to avoid the daily commotion. Developing a profound, instinctual bond with a magical creature was never about showing off or dominating a beast for him. Instead, it was simply about finding a fellow companion who appreciates the same frequency of peace.
This distinct bond initially manifested itself at the bustling Magical Menagerie situated in Diagon Alley. Whereas the other children were attracted to the noisy toads and screeching birds, Bartholomew deliberately sought the quietest corner of the shop. Amidst the prevailing commotion, he noticed a spotted Egyptian Mau, Pearl, serenely playing with a ball of wool. The actual realization of his latent abilities occurred the very moment he softly hummed a melody to her through the enclosure's bars. She promptly dropped her toy, offered an affectionate trill, and rubbed her head against his fingers. Upon being released from her newly purchased cage, instead of bolting into the crowd, she immediately climbed onto his shoulder, thereby establishing a profound, natural emotional tether.
Over the subsequent weeks, Bartholomew cultivated this inherent bond through his music and keenly observant nature. Rather than training Pearl with loud vocal commands like a typical pet owner, he learnt to communicate with her using rhythm and subtle body language. Just as he effortlessly reads complex sheet music or tunes an acoustic guitar by ear, Bartholomew learnt to understand his feline companion's minute expressions. He paid close attention to the specific flick of her tail, the flattening of her ears, and the exact tempo of her purr. Ultimately, he treated her not merely as a pet, but as an esteemed audience member and silent partner.
This unique skill was distinctly exhibited while navigating the highly crowded and overwhelming environment of the Gryffindor Common Room. Bartholomew's profound and empathetic understanding of Pearl enables them to function as a perfectly synchronised unit. Through a mere subtle shift in his posture or a specific hummed chord, Pearl instinctively understands his requirements. She essentially acts as his quiet scout, effortlessly utilising her natural feline grace to weave through the chaotic gatherings of senior students to identify the quietest armchair available, before returning to his shoulder to guide him towards it. Owing to the immense patience, quiet observation, and musical empathy he has invested in their bond, Bartholomew and Pearl move together seamlessly. Ultimately, she is no longer merely a pet, but rather an extension of his own senses and his absolute best friend.

That Jo is observant is perhaps one of the least surprising things about her given the kind of family she was raised in. Her parents both work in magical security, and creating the spellwork necessary to protect other people's property and secrets requires a good deal of creativity, yes, but also a careful eye to spot where a spell's weak spots may lie and possible avenues of infiltration. This goes doubly so when testing out already existing security systems or attempting to break others' protective spells, a line of work they pursed as Gringotts curse-breakers and still will engage in occasionally, if the money is right and the job comes from a reputable source. Whether Jo's own talent for seeing what others might miss is inherited or learned from observing how her parents engage with the world is anyone's guess. Probably, it's a bit of both.
What is certain is that the pre-existing ability has been carefully nurtured through a childhood being home-schooled by her paternal grandfather. A former unspeakable who dedicated his life to research he cannot disclose, the man was passionate about instilling the importance of the scientific method as a way to tackle the unknown and gain information, and would often start his lessons by inviting Jo to make observations about the world around her and to form hypotheses around those observations. This instinct has become so ingrained that it's what Jo reflexively resorts to when confronted with any novel situation or problem--first, look carefully and make an inventory of what you notice; only once that is done should you plot a course of action.
Jo's grandfather is also a great lover of games and riddles, and would often attempt to make lessons more fun and keep Jo intellectually stimulated by incorporating puzzles and scavenger hunts into their learning. These activities were designed to test her knowledge of the material, and also her ability to notice careful wording and things that weren't quite where they were supposed to be in order to get clues. Over the years, Jo has gotten quite good at it.
Jo is also very naturally curious and wants to know everybody's business, which inevitably leads to her paying more attention to her surroundings than other people might have cause to, since there is a lot one can learn just by stopping to look. She prides herself on her ability to deduce things about people just by looking at their possessions (an idea she may or may not have gotten from a battered old copy of Sherlock Holmes stories she found in her parents' library.)

As you can tell from Sofia's first instance of magic, you could see that she was stronger than most of her peers. Although no one could really tell at first, especially because she's muggle-born. Her parents simply believed that Sofia was unusually strong for such a small and quiet child. There had been signs throughout her childhood. She could pick up large rocks while helping in the garden, carry heavy shopping bags without complaining and move plant pots that her older sister struggled to lift. She also broke toys more often than other children, usually because she gripped or pulled them harder than she realised. Most people never really noticed, mainly because Sofia wasn't an athlete like you'd expect for someone with strength, she did enjoy sports but it wasn't her favourite thing. She preferred reading, gardening and making stories in her imagination. She was gentle, patient and rarely became angry. However, when she did become angry, it was normally because someone was being cruel or damaging something she cared about. So that's why when she saw that boy destroying that plant she was furious. How could someone disrespect the environment like that, she couldn't believe someone could be so cruel. So of course she went over to tell him to stop and she was very polite about it too. But the boy laughed at her, he didn't care. But Sofia did, she asked him again, and again. But still nothing. She was on her last wit and tried to push him off the flower but he pushed her back. She got angry, very angry. And pushed him again, she didn't mean to push him so hard but she did.She was shocked and a little bit scared, she didn't want to hurt anyone. For several years afterwards, Sofia tried to hide her strength. She avoided lifting heavy objects in front of other people and became extremely careful when playing games with her friends. She did not want people to find her frightening or dangerous. More than anything, Sofia wanted to be someone others could trust. What she didn't realise was that she could help people. However, hiding her ability did not help her control it. She sometimes cracked plant pots by gripping them too tightly or pulled weeds so forcefully that she fell backwards. Sofia began practising while gardening, lifting pots gently and concentrating on using only as much force as necessary. She also helped carry soil, watering cans and gardening equipment. Gradually, Sofia realised that her strength was not something she needed to fear. It could be useful when controlled properly. She began carrying shopping for her parents, moving boxes around the house and helping her sister with heavy objects.

Morgan Faughn is a muggle-born, the youngest of four, born in a family of only muggles. He didn't grow up with magic nor did he know that it was even real until he received his letter and someone showed up to his house to explain it all to him. As this was the case, Morgan grew up not using magic for every little thing but did learn plenty of other ways to do things with simple tools or skills he thought were just basic knowledge.
His mother is a nurse and his father's a teacher so they were not going to let their children go about their lives without having basic skills, even if they aren't necessarily impressive their useful. Of course, Morgan would quickly learn having some of these skills in the magical world and not needing a wand for every little thing would apparently be slightly more impressive than he and any muggle or muggle-born would think. While it would have been useful to be able to have a potion or simple wand wave to heal, but Morgan didn't have that so his mother ensured that he and his siblings all knew how to do very basic first aid, how to care and clean small injuries, apply gauze, what to do for burns, etc. His father and mother both were avid believers that there were many basic survival skills that were useful to have so of course they taught their children things such as how to use tools like a screwdriver or wrench to fix things, how to use certain materials to start a fire if needed (remembering to also teach basic fire safety), and basic navigational skills to find directions and read maps if need be.
Of course, Morgan also had an older brother who was a bit reckless and certainly got into more than a few fights growing up so he ensured that all his siblings knew basic self-defense, at the very least how to throw a proper punch and use the good old trick of throwing sand/dirt into eyes of attacker to get away. Morgan's oldest sister has always been rather resourceful as well and always had many projects where she could make something extraordinary with just the basic materials. Morgan picked up on a little bit of this as well, and even if he wasn't quite as skilled as his sister, he still wasn't bad at making and putting things together.
Morgan might have magic now, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to use what he knew from his family and being a muggle. There was nothing wrong with being a muggle or muggle-born, if anything, he could be a better wizard because of it. And, if anything, should magic fail him, he can always rely on his supposed "muggle" knowledge to help him.

Since Winnie was a child people have commented on how adorable she is, as she has grown older her looks have matured and she has become a beautiful young woman. Although, she has always possessed a soft, fairytale type of beauty that makes her seem like she has just stepped out of a Pinterest aesthetic board rather than a witch attending Hogwarts. Her bright blue eyes are framed by long light lashes, her heart shaped face is framed by silky thigh length copper hair which often has flowers weaved through fiery locks, and skin is smooth and untouched by any imperfections. She often keeps her makeup light, using it to only enhance her natural features, a touch of blush here, a smear of strawberry lipgloss, mascara to make her lashes look even longer, and shimmering highlighter.
However, it is her personal style that really completes the storybook image and easily captures the attention of those around her. She often wearing either cottagecore or coquette inspired clothing. Her usual favourite is any sort of flowing pink gowns adorned with ribbons or embroidered with floral motifs. It would be a difficult task to ever find her wearing pants, dull colours, or really anything simple. Even when she wears what she considers to be 'simple' (such as her uniform, the bane of her existence), she still finds ways to add touches of whimsy; a ribbon around her wrist, charms dangling from her neck, flowers in her hair.
During her years at Hogwarts Winnie has attracted the attention of a few suitors because of her good looks. Although beauty is subjective and in the eye of the beholder, no one can deny that her colourful visuals are distracting, most particularly in front the dark corridors and the dull shades of the castle bricks. Heads often turn and eyes stay glued to her when she is on the Quidditch pitch, in the corridors of the castle, in the middle of the classroom, or even while walking through muggle areas. If her appearance doesn't catch someone's attention, her warm and welcoming personality often draws people in.
It is never Winnie's intention to be visually distracting, and she would never use it to her advantage. She truly just enjoys wearing bright colours and maintaining her appearance. If she happens to catch someone's eye and distract them during Quidditch, well... She is hardly to blame. Truthfully, there is only one person she wants to catch the eye of.

Winifred is also quite a bit smaller than normal Tollers, standing at 43 cm tall rather than the usual 48 cm, a reflection of her natural form's small stature. Lucian has a mysterious air around him. Whenever he goes into a room everyone freezes as if something bad is about to happen. But he is unaware that the reason of all that is him. Like he was unaware he had magic till he had the first instance of magic at the age of eight and later got the letter from Hogwarts was just a confirmation of his identity as a wizard. Lucian didn't know why people stayed away from a shy kid like him. But he was going to live with it. He had no idea or was planning on finding out. He just knows he's friendly and shy but something mysterious aura covers his intentions. He is not aware that it's the Terrible Pressence that shows him this way. It's a part of him, that doesn't go away. He's always been this way as long as he can remember. Something about him makes other shiver. He doesn't know it yet, it's something in his soul that is causing all this. He will eventually find out with time, or so he hopes.
Lucian would walk in the room and everyone would know about his presence before he even entered the room. His presence could be felt. It was something he couldn't control to be honest. Something like the first sprout of magic. He had an aura that followed him everywhere he went. He couldn't deny it nor could he control it no matter how much he wanted to. He had to live with it. He had not asked for it- just like his own magic. He had something about the nature being against him. He is the source of the Mysterious Aura. It's been a part of him since he was born. He doesn't know why or how he got it. It's something he has to deal with.
Somehow that intrigued him more than ever. He wanted to know what it was about him that kept people at bay and what mysterious air revolved around him. He was more than willing to spend time learning about it. He went through multiple libararies and a number of journals or books about magic that would give him this answer but none could answer his question. Troubled young lad, with an aura of darkness. Where his darkness followed him and showed its presence before his own presence. Something eery was there about him that he couldn't answer to. It's in the way he walks and talks to others that his mysterious aura is revealed. It makes him dangerous to others and tends to make him have more enemies than friends.
Something he couldn't shake or let go of. It was part of him. It was who he was. There was no Lucian without the eery presence. He had a mysterious aura and people seemed to understand that at times. At times, they would want to fight it. But alas! It was Lucian who won against people like that. He was young, agile, and had a impressionable mind. He could be told anything and he'd take it on its face value. His darkness had a side that he was himself unaware of. His darkness took a stronger hold at night when things were quiet and peaceful.

- You mention a mysterious aura a lot but don't actually mention what's causing it. We're looking for a few sentences about your character's disposition or demeanour that would suggest why they've got this terrible presence, not just that they have it.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
ReducioLola Woodrow was a beautiful woman. Though her wild blonde curls that used to envelop her face had thinned and straightened, now draping dully to her shoulders, and her once full and ruddy cheeks had hollowed, growing rather pallid, Lola Woodrow remained a beautiful woman.
Outwardly, at least.
Perhaps that's all that ever mattered. As long as the public saw the hardworking, resilient, and loving single mother Mrs. Woodrow, no one would treat such a lovely lady with disdain, like they usually did with cold and dismissive people. Things such as "cold" and "dismissive" were only a fraction of how Atlas saw his mother.
For as long as he could remember, his mother had been nothing but harsh to him. Not for a moment was her voice sincerely kind, with varying degrees of annoyance perpetually present. Mrs. Woodrow appeared sweet and gentle to all else in a way Atlas found rather saccharine, and he grew sure her superficial kindness was a way of showing how the attitude she had towards him was a deliberate choice.
He wondered if she was trying to make a point. One early December morning, when the house should have been filled with laughter and the Christmas spirit, Atlas awoke to see the shelves that resided above the fireplace completely empty except for a few sorrowful light-colored roses. He remembered the day before it had been bedecked with innumerable photos. Photos of Lola and Matthew in their youth, depicting dreamy summers where their smiles beamed and the sunlight gleamed. Photos of their wedding day, where his mother wore a dress the color of an angelic white dove, carefreely and proudly holding a bouquet of ivory roses. There was even a picture of the couple holding their newborn baby in another early December around four years ago, out in the wintery and snowy streets of Wingham. If any unsuspecting guest were to visit, they would believe the Woodrows were the happiest family in all of Great Britain.
Perhaps they were for a while, but certainly not now. Young Atlas would soon discover that looks were very deceiving.
There was once a girl in his grade bearing a sweet face and docile eyes. Whoever said eyes are the windows to the soul must've lied, because this young lady was nothing like docile. She cried incessantly at the most absurd instances, shrieked piercingly when things didn't go her way in the slightest, and was aggressively territorial over something as small as the corner of the school playground. Atlas considered her the main assaulter of his ears.
He met another girl the year after who had a heart-melting smile. Never had there been a day where she didn't show up dressed poshly, with hair done elegantly. She exuded the aura of a privileged yet compassionate young woman. Privileged she was, compassionate she wasn't. Atlas began to find her repulsive, considering her the most stuck-up snob in town. He wouldn't say his classmates disagreed.
In that same year, there was a boy as pretty as Atlas himself, coming off as gentle and polite; the last one to ever step out of line. To say he was a troublemaker would be an understatement. He had quite an inflated head, likely believing that everyone else, teacher or student, was below him. Witty remarks and humorous retorts were constantly flowing out of his mouth. He was quite a prankster as well, though most considered his "harmless" stunts bullying.
And with all that, Atlas Woodrow learned that not everything was quite what it seemed. He had met a decent handful of people who were as sweet as they looked, but if you had a tray of brownies and a few were poisoned, you'd be wary of them all right?

For Bartholomew Lindenmomo, shifting from a peaceful home in Godric's Hollow to the loud, chaotic environment of Hogwarts has been a massive shock. Honestly, it was a major vibe check. As an introverted musician, he literally spends most time looking for empty corners to escape the constant noise of his housemates, who act completely delulu on a sugar rush. When it came to having a magical pet, Bartholomew was not at all in his flexing era. He never wanted a creature to show off to other students or to act like a typical master dominating a beast. He simply wanted a loyal friend sharing his exact same need for peace, quiet, and proper chill vibes only.
This connection first sparked the day he visited the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley to buy school supplies. While all the other first year kids were being so extra, crowding around screeching owls and croaking toads like it was a free concert, Bartholomew walked away from the noise and found the most isolated section of the shop itself. Right there, he saw a spotted Egyptian Mau named Pearl calmly batting at a yarn ball, unbothered by the heavy chaos happening nearby. Bartholomew instinctively leaned close to the cage bars and started humming a soft acoustic melody. The moment she heard the tune, Pearl dropped her toy, gave a gentle trill, and pushed her head affectionately against his fingers. When the shopkeeper opened the cage, instead of running into the crowded shop like a menace, she climbed straight onto his shoulder. That simple interaction created an instant bond between them.
Over his first few weeks living at Hogwarts, Bartholomew has carefully built on that connection by using his music and sharp observational skills. He quickly realized yelling loud commands at Pearl was unnecessary and would totally ruin their peaceful dynamic. Instead, he treats her like a silent musical partner. Since he is so used to reading sheet music and tuning his guitar by ear, Bartholomew pays extremely close attention to Pearl's body language. He knows exactly what it means when she flicks her tail a certain way, flattens her ears, or changes the tempo of her purring.
This unique Beast Master bond is obvious when they are trying to survive the Gryffindor Common Room. Whenever the room is packed with students making massive racket, Bartholomew and Pearl work as a perfect team to ditch the drama. With just a hummed note, Pearl knows to act as his scout. She uses feline agility to weave through the crowd, locating the quietest available armchair, and then returns to his side to lead him right to it. Because of the incredible patience and musical empathy he puts into their relationship, they understand each other completely without speaking a single word. She is not just a pet; she is an extension of his senses and his absolute best friend in the castle.
