Care of Magical Creatures Lesson Updates

The Care of Magical Creatures curriculum will be getting updated throughout the next month. Lesson content and questions will remain the SAME. I am editing to ensure all lessons are up-to-date with our current professor and all information is properly placed within the lesson itself, as some off-site web addresses with supplementary information may be inaccessible for some users.

This week, through Wednesday, October 16, I will be updating the fourth year lessons 2 through 5. You have until Thursday, October 17 to complete the above lessons.

Please Respect Others Work

A reminder - please do not steal the work of others. Yes, this does mean that we expect you to write your own posts but in addition to this we expect attribution and for people to respect other user requests. This would include coding. If you steal another user's post code, fail to attribute it despite it being something clearly instructed, or take it despite someone saying you cannot use it you are acting inappropriately. This extends to sites like our sister site Poudlard. It has come to my attention that members in this community have stolen and/or removed the attribution to the creator and used these codes on our sister site. This reflects poorly on this community and more so on the users that have done this.

It is my expectation that permission is obtained, if not granted that the code is taken down. That attribution if requested is respected or the coding is taken down.

Hufflepuff Duelling Captain Wanted!

Hello fellow huffs and puffs,
I regrettably have to inform you that Julian Pritchard has decided to step down as a duelling co-captain. Therefore, we're going to look for a suitable replacement to fill in the big shoes he leaves behind!

The Captain and their Co-Captains serve four roles in this community, they moderate duelling matches, assist in the development of the duelling system, update and maintain rosters and assist duellists in strategizing and submitting their actions. The system is ever-changing, expanding, and improving, so there is always something to do.

So Why Become a Duelling Captain?
- There is a level of control that comes with this and your efforts may make the difference between success and failure for your team.
- This is a moderator-level position.
- You will be compensated for your efforts with IC money.
- You will have a hand in future development, policies, and patches

Please, have in mind that you will need to complete a test, this is so that we can determine if you are capable of understanding how to moderate matches and have the math mastery for the role. While someone might be good at normal math, moderation can be difficult for some.

BROOM RACING PATCH - FALL 2024

As promised, a patch has been completed in time for Stage I. Please find the full details of the patch here: Project Announcements

The patch includes various clarifications across the board, from system rounding, flying, blatching, to spell updates. Third year Seers and Parselmouths can also find an important update regarding their abilities. If you have any questions regarding the patch, the sport, or the upcoming stage, please contact a captain and we will do our best to answer.

A reminder that Stage I begins on October 19th, so do update your trunks sooner rather than later to avoid any stress it may cause. Read well and best of luck!

The time has come for you to have the time of your short lives at the Fall Ball! We are excited to present to you two new games; Haunted Halls and Whispers of the Dark, and the main ball 'The Gala of Mysteries.'

The Gala of Mysteries is where you can socialize and dance and eat. The Haunted Halls is where you go through different rooms and try to solve the answer to each riddles, solve puzzles and tricks to get out, kind of like an escape room! Whispers of the Dark is a no-magic zone where you will have to try and figure out who the murderer is!

The Sign Ups for Whispers of the Dark will begin October 19th and end October 26th. Players will be sorted into groups, hence the sign up. The others (The Gala of Mysteries and The Haunted Halls) are free for entering at any point, but Whispers of the Dark is not, please sign up!

Additionally, all of these events require the prerequisite of being registered in index before you can participate, so please do!

Infected by a Hag Slug?!

The coven of hags has been a part of the main story that has, mostly, finished and been closed down. However, there are still players who have been infected by hag slugs around and we wanted to draw this chapter to a close in-character so it can tie up any loose ends for those players.

We do have players who've been infected but have gone inactive, players who've forgotten/are busy in real life and can't roleplay right now. We don't want anyone to lose their character because they did not cure themselves in time, so this allows everyone to get cured and to close this arc of the story cleanly.

As such, very soon, there will be a big change in-character (details will be explained in a daily prophet article in the coming weeks). We wanted to give you a heads up so that, if you are infected and you're not in the process of getting your character cured then this will give you a heads up!

Important Notes:
- This iNPC trip to Hogwarts will be the last in-character opportunity for your PCs and iNPCs to get yourselves infected/cured/roleplay any aspect of the slugs.
- Once iNPCs leave, there will be a daily prophet article with more explanation in character. This will be the week commencing 28th October (exact date will be confirmed in the article). However, the general gist is that everyone will be checked and if found with slugs, will be cured. This will happen off-screen, so just assume it happens if you don't want to get it fixed beforehand.
- This does mean that the ball is the last 'big' event you can be cured at. However, you're welcome to do a smaller open/private thread if you prefer, just date it this week in-character.
- If you're already in a backdated thread to get yourself cured, this wouldn't affect you. This is more for future threads post the cure.
- If you are infected right now, you don't have a cure thread but you would like to then I would recommend you set on in this week in-character. It doesn't have to be finished by the date of the thread. Just know that if you are cured on whatever date this is set then you're fine but if you fail to be cured / others get infected then everyone will automatically be cured in the week commencing 28th October.
- Yes, if someone is infected now then you could get infected in the next week BUT it will be cured.
- No you can't "avoid" the cure. It is mandatory for everyone in-character and will, essentially, allow us to draw a clean close to this facet of the story without anyone losing their character.

TL;DR - There's a cure, you'll be okay!
