After having just investigated the zone that she was in, Kaitlyn knew that she just had to do something. Anything to help her team. They were counting on her, after all, to at least try to help them win. Sure, she was the youngest member of the team, but that didn’t mean that she was a useless member, either. At least, that was her personal opinion of the matter. She hadn’t tried asking the others, and frankly, it wouldn’t really make much of a difference either way.

With a quick shake of her head, Kaitlyn glanced at Mahlioz, deciding to try to help by talking and bantering with her teammate. Hopefully, it could help. Maybe. The only issue was … was that Kaitlyn wasn’t exactly the best talker in the group. Yet, she had to try. So, she fully faced Mahlioz. “Hey … so … right, we need to … to focus … on trying to … help,” she spoke slowly, trying to think of the best words she could use for encouragement. And yet, as she talked, she quickly realized that her words weren’t going to help. Sure, she wasn’t shy about trying to help, but she was far from encouraging. She winced at her own failure, hoping her fellow Snake didn’t think poorly of her for trying. A smile crossed her lips when the smokescreen went up.

A rumble of thunder ahead brought some cheer to Colin's heart as perhaps any impending rain would cool the jungle arena off a bit! Not much was happening in the zone he was pushed into, so having poked around a bit, he decided to go on to the next area. Easier said than done! This was a jungle, after all, and as similar as the Forbidden Forest's trees might be to these their southern cousins, there was still quite a lot of undergrowth to manage.

The trees here were, in fact, quite interesting. He was certain that KitKaits, even though she was on the wrong team, was enjoying every minute spent in this super damp herbology lab! No doubt her pockets would be crammed full of interesting magical herbs and seeds! Colin himself had very little interest in salads and plants, except in so far as surprising Emmi with the occasional handful of wildflowers required some understanding of plant life and herbology. It certainly wouldn't do to thrust a handful of thorns and brambles at his dear girl after all!

Ah! Colin heard voices up ahead. Not all of them human! Most prominent among them was a kind of water nymph, a iara he'd heard her called. She was actually rather cute! Her hair was long and dark, and her face was painted like a red mask across her green eyes. She was singing. Sort of. AngelFyre's occasional bursts of "song" came to mind as the lovely iara sought to harmonise her singing. "A good snog would cure that, lass!" he said as he passed by her.

The other non-human voice was Marcus. Haven's purple pygmypuff. Colin smirked. The poor thing was squeaking in disapproval as he caught sight of the imminent chaos. He'd have to chat with Marcus after the game about the beauty and snoggability of iaras and other water nymphs. But for now, it time to be watchful!

Several spells in quick succession were flung about! Colin readied himself for what was to come next. The smile played around his lips as a gorgeous blindfold and a cloud of smudgy smoke overtook the Caimans.

Tone hadn't expected a jaguar to be lurking in the underbrush. Manu ended up drawing out the animal and although the jaguar also attempted to attack him, Tone was agile and fast enough to avoid its claws and jaws at the same time. Mochi was just as lucky, not having been in the same proximity and escaped the notice of the wild creatures. Lindsey didn't seem to be able to follow him though as the jaguar turned its attention to her now. He wasn't entirely sure what to do next, keep going on his own to help the team out or help those around him get away from danger. Did he have enough time to do both now? He was now in Zone 4 but wasn't sure of his next course of action. "What do you think, Mochi?" Tone asked her.

He was glad Mochi had remained unnoticed by all the dangers around them. Hopefully it would stay that way because Tone wouldn't want anything bad to happen to his beloved pet. A sigh escaped his lips as he reached up to scratch his head a little, thinking about what the best possible action would be. He knew what the team wanted him to do and fully intended on doing that for them. After all, he couldn't let them down, especially if everyone else failed around him. But at the same time, he also wanted to help the rest of his team out if they were in danger. He didn't like seeing others hurt, especially when he was around and could save them. It couldn't turn out to be another Pyre incident. He wouldn't let it happen again.

Logan Baird, Caiman Jungle banner
L[ogan’s eyes scanned the forest around her as she moved. Occasionally she caught something out of the corner of her eye, but it was normally something else moving through the trees along her. It made her anxious not to know what creatures could be out there alongside her. Her vision rarely caught anything interesting, though. It was mostly leaves, leaves, more leaves, and bugs. If one of those big ones landed on her, she was going to freak out. She loved creatures, but something about these insects was different.

With a sigh, the dark-haired girl slowed down to observe the forest just a little bit more. Maybe, she would be able to spot the other team's flag. Suddenly, she spotted it. It was just out of the corner of her eye that she saw a slight movement and was quickly able to recognize the flag. This did not last long though, as suddenly Logan’s vision was completely obscured by a blindfold. The girl was not certain where it had come from, but she knew she had seen the flag. The main issue now was that she was stuck in the jungle with a blindfold blocking her vision of everything around her.

Lily had successfully gotten her wand back from the stupid monkey, chimpanzee, whatever this primate was called. She gave the monkey an evil eye, one that promised superior pain and suffering if it was ever to cross her path again. She glanced over at Archer to see how he was faring. Apparently, he gave up trying to get his wand back and was now searching for the flag. Lily's eyes caught sight of Kanthil and she raised her wand to cast the Full Body Bind Curse, but Kanthil moved quickly, making Lily's spell hit absolutely nothing. Lily sighed and glanced back at where Archer had been but apparently he had disappeared in that short time that Lily had been distracted. She frowned and turned to go look at something else, her wand held in a defensive stance, her grip on it so hard that someone would probably have to pry it from her cold, dead hands. Her eyes flicked around as she took in all her surroundings to make sure she wasn't about to get attacked by a wild animal or something. Lily moved through the jungle, listening hard to see if her teammates needed any help from someone not really doing much.

They say that the rainforest is ever-watching — omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. For the majority of the duration of the game, it had remained observing, with the exception of several curiously mischievous monkeys who enjoyed snatching whatever object held in hand. It wasn’t until now that the bushes began to rustle, that a pair of eyes made itself apparent within the flora. The eyes glowed with the ferocity of a beast, something of a scary determination to devour anything in its path. And then the eyes stopped watching — they moved. A jaguar materialised from the underbrush, pouncing with outstretched claws and snarling teeth. It was complete with a gorgeous spotted coat that complemented its untamed, vicious beauty. Was the girl scared at all of the beast? Perhaps, for it did possess claws with such a deadly curvature that would cause damage to the extent that not even a visit to the Hospital Wing would be sufficient. She more so marvelled at its dangerous elegance, however, at the way the dappled light complemented the beast’s patterns, at the way its coat seemed to shine. Besides, the jaguar was not heading toward Ebony anyway; the Castelobruxo girl from the other team had led it away, the magnificent beast perhaps feeling compelled to follow a Castelobruxo student.

The Ravenclaw watched as the two sped down the path toward the opponent base and vanished from her line of vision. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Ebony set out to destroy the trap that the Castelobruxo girl had laid. Now that the trap setter was no longer in its vicinity, surely it would be easier to sabotage. She decided to brute force it, as she did everything, attempting to twist it apart such that the intricate wiring would be disassembled to the point of dysfunctionality. That was apparently not the wisest idea, for the trap activated and snap shut before any damage could be done. She was smart enough to jump out of the way just in time to avoid having her fingers snapped off by the trap, though it was to be admitted that it slightly disoriented her.

From the riverbank, Phyllis sized up the new situation. Her conclusion? The situation involved a lot less watching your step, a lot more pointing of wands. A magical storm cloud was already brewing overhead, smoke was quickly furling out to join it, and there was another wand pointed at Logan. Not on her watch! The Phyllis of a few years ago would never have reached for her wand, but between a needed switch to much better-fitting Dogwood and Snallygaster Heartstring and witnessing Maxi's casting, which she'd marvelled at and tried to replicate at least in part, today she did. She incanted, "Expelliarmus!" And it worked perfectly! Only, it wasn't quite fast enough to save Logan from her blindfolded fate. "You okay?" she checked, just to be sure.

She should have waited about two more seconds to ask it, because then the lightning struck. It hit Logan and it hit her, a zap she felt from her teeth to her toes, and if she hadn't felt awake already running through the rainforest, she defintely did now. Ow. Her grimace didn't last long, though, actually replaced by a full grin at Kanae's words. Good timing, there. Phyllis shook it off -- literally, she shook out her arms and legs to chase away the feeling -- and gave her wand a little spin. Onward!

Now on her toes after being scared by a tree, apparently, Haven kept an eye out and was doing her best to pay attention to everything but also not get distracted. It was a complicated set-up, but she thought she was doing pretty good, not even bothering to look in the direction of whatever weird singing she vaguely heard. Marcus didn't seem to like it though, letting out squeaks of disapproval.

But being so on edge had its advantages, though. When someone (an actual someone), came around the corner, Haven was ready, yelling out a yell that was something in between a war cry and a terrified scream, opting for obscuro again, partially because it was already on her mind and she tended to forget every single spell she knew when it actually came down to it (she really only used a couple spells in duels anyway), and also partially because she was slightly embarrassed of that scream and didn't want them to see her.

As effective as her spell was (and as on point as she was with her aim! Good job, Haven!), she was apparently not ready to dodge other people, and her wand flew out of her hand. She was already constantly misplacing her wand, she didn't need other people doing it for her!

"Great," she muttered, huffing under he breath. "Well, I'm never going to be able to find that again."

Now that she knew what to expect, Mahlioz spotted the leopards this time around, which was VERY fortunate considering one of them went for her and she just about managed to dodge. Thank you, duelling reflexes. A cold sweat had taken her over now, and she was really beginning to regret this. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, leopards are cool when they're not attacking you, you didn't die, everything is great...

Thankfully, two of the other three in her zone managed to dodge as well. Unfortunately, one of them did not. Though Mahlioz's reaction wasn't as terrified as the first time - crazy how quickly one could accustom themselves to things like this in times of need - it was mostly because they were trying their very darnedest not to think about it. They focused on their spell, casting a very nice Fumos, which gave them a frankly ridiculous amount of reassurance. Spells were good. Spells were familiar. Leopards were not.

There were some newcomers to the zone, now - two members of the opposing team. Mahlioz tried to stay clear of them, unsure of what to expect. Fighting other students was something she was used to, but not in the middle of the forest. One of the girls on Mahlioz's team - she'd seen her before, what was her name - right, Kaitlyn, tried her hand at encouragement (at least, Mahlioz guessed), though she seemed quite unsure of herself. The fourth year gave her a slightly awkward nod - it wasn't like they were much better at communication, to be fair. "Er... yes. Good plan."

Marietta was relieved to have gotten away safely from the jaguar and ended up not petting it. She had to focus on the game, which turned out to be easier thought than done. Without a carnivorous cat in her way, the jungle was rather beautiful. The sticky humidity was unfamiliar and sort of uncomfortable, but not all together miserable. The dense trees, while crooked, formed a lovely tapestry of interwoven branches, even if the branches themselves had little in the way of variety.

If she weren't so intent on keeping on eye out for things that might want to eat her, teammates, or members of the opposite team, she might have been tempted to climb one of those trees. Maybe even try to wiggle her way to the top of the canopy. She had heard it was beautiful up there. She could picture it, what looked to be the ground, uneven and made entirely out of leaves, so close to the sky she could almost touch a cloud! She snorted, she knew that was an overly romanticized picture of it, and she was pretty sure these trees weren't that tall. Still though it was nice to dream. Now though it was time to get her feet on the ground and find that flag!
