Well, this round was less entertaining than he thought it might be. He took the spot of defending their seeker, but no one came to attack Jamie? This struck him as odd, feeling like you'd want to get rid of the seeker but perhaps they had other plans. Especially since it seemed like their seeker had already spotted the snitch. Everett kept his mouth shut, he wasn't going to criticize Jamie as he could never spot the snitch as much as he'd like to believe he could. Still, at least they got 30 points this round. That was something.

The match was only at the very beginning and Valentin was sure the current score reflected nothing more than a slow start for his team, he wouldn’t go all the way to see it would be a different story if he were on the pitch, but would be lying if he said he didn’t think he could help.

For now he was happy to just take a back seat on the match, he enjoyed watching Quidditch, of course playing it was one better, he did however have the opportunity to watch each of his opponents in turn as the match progressed, making quick judgements about which were defence or attack heavy, and which may be more inclined to bend the rules.

The game began quickly, and it seemed all her training had finally paid off. She quickly snatched the red ball from another girl's outstretched hands, finding herself scoring relatively easily, the quaffle flying over the Keeper's head straight into a golden hoop. The same girl managed to grab the ball the second round, though—and flew straight into Phyllis. The two collided harshly, but their Keeper managed to triumph, the ball cast to the side. Lucietta cheered excitedly for them, cupping her hands to shout encouragement, but she sympathized for the Japanese girl. That must've hurt.

Lucietta found herself with the quaffle once again, adding more points to the board. With her two goals already, she dived for the ball during the fifth round with more fervor and wrestled the ball roughly away from the Japanese Chaser. Ball tucked safely under her arm, she flew straight into the other end, and—

The other team's Keeper kicked the ball away swiftly, the quaffle flying harmlessly towards the ground.

She was a little disappointed, but not too discouraged. It was only the first round, after all. There were more points to add to the board.

And they're off! With a flying start as well, although unfortunately not in their favour, ended up at 30-0 by the end of this round. That certainly wasn't ideal. Although as a beater, he was used to not being the one scoring the points.

He did get one chance to do his job though, as the bludger came flying in Milos direction, he hit it with a backhand and it went shooting into somebody behind him. That would always give him a rush, despite it being quite a violent thing.

The game began with a literal bang, with thunder rumbling faintly in the distance.
Jamie whizzed around on his new Nimbus 1700--man, this thing could really fly! The sensation of lifting into the air never got old, and the absolutely dizzying height only added to his excitement. As his fellow teammates zoomed across the pitch, the redhead took a deep breath, tightened his grip on the broom, and coolly shifted into snitch-finding mode.

He soared over the field, determined to spot that tell-tale golden glitter. He was vaguely aware of the crowd cheering them on, and Everett whooshing along nearby, but damn-- this rain!
The formerly light shower started to pick up as he went, dampening his hair, and slowing his progress quite a bit. Jamie paused to wipe at his eyes and brush his now soaked curls out of his face. He fumbled for the goggles that hung around his neck.

"This is nothing!" The goggles snapped into place, and Jamie shook as much water as he could off of his body. "I'm an Oregonian, bitch! I live for the rain--what the?"In the distance, he spotted the other team's Seeker, and it looked like they had found something important. "Shit!"
Jamie frantically secured his goggles, and sped off in his opponent's direction.

Was Monet paying attention to the game? No. Should she have been? Probably. Instead, she was bouncing her leg up and down, counting the seconds in between the thunder and lightning. But the obnoxious American headmaster's commentary was doing an alright job of keeping the Spaniard in the loop. She huffed as she slumped in her seat. "'And company'? Really? I think I've decided that I don't really like Americans," she chided.

THE STORY

With a flourish of his cape, Plott’s arms reached high into the sky as if to tempt the lightning himself.

"Prepare yourselves for Part Two of this international showdown, being broadcast live around the world! You, who are lucky to be here in person-- try to enjoy it doubly on behalf of those whose tickets you bought up before they could even find a vendor. As for you players-- you may be cold and rainsoaked, but our eyes are upon you! Show us your true glory, Ilvermorny! And everyone else!”

Under a heavy passing cloud, a torrent of rain washed down upon the players just as they headed off to their respective tasks. A pack of three consisting of Katherine Felix, Ayako Yamamura, and Lucietta Mahler headed out to contest the quaffle. Lucietta was the first to get in arm’s reach of the ball, which she promptly scooped up for escort towards Mahoubaton’s hoops. Who could tell if it was rain in Lucietta’s eyes or the tenacity in Viola’s heart, but the Mahoubaton keeper swatted away the impending quaffle with nary a bat of her eye.

For round two, Ayako deftly grabbed the ball before the other two shoulder-to-shoulder players could jostle their way into the vicinity. Ayako was a team player, however, and when Katherine broke away for the Ilverbruxo hoops, the Japanese girl spun the quaffle into Katherine’s waiting hands in a clean pass. Katherine did her best to score, but was no match for Phylicia Stanwood this time.

Katherine, the pureblood Beauxbaton, would get another chance to prove herself in Round 3, however. Swooping over her comrade’s shoulder, Katherine secured the quaffle without the need for a pass and headed directly towards Ilverbruxo’s hoops. Yet, the determined expertise of Phylicia presented a stalwart wall-- one which Katherine could not overcome at the angle she came in at.

The winds at Katherine’s back continued to propel her towards the quaffle faster than her colleagues, and once again she made the quaffle her own in Round 4. Was it frustration, improved focus, or some great inner need inside Katherine that propelled her with maximum zeal at the hoops this round? Whatever overcame her now, the kit fox swept in at the top of her game and passed the quaffle under Phylicia’s legs and cleanly through the hoops.

"Ten points for Mahoutokoro – Beauxbatons,” yelled Plott with minimal enthusiasm. He wondered what should have gone differently for Ilvermorny-Castelobruxo this round. Was their poor progress in the quaffle game perhaps in the interest of their greater good? Yet, uninterested in speaking contrarily against his home school, Plott continued making only supportive observations to the massive London Stadium crowd.

Wrapping up Round 5, Katherine was not done. Aloft on the glorious [Nat 20] technique she scored with last round, the girl kept on with exactly the fervor she needed to maintain quaffle dominance [a second Nat 20.] With an unusual, stylish roll, Katherine plucked the quaffle out of the air as easily as fruit on a tree.

"Fine technique from Beauxbaton’s Kit Felix,” droned Plott, at last unable to contain his (admittedly reluctant) appreciation for Katherine’s continued excellence.

Yet, Phylicia was not about to slack off now. Unwilling to let another quaffle pass her gates, the Ilverbruxo keeper swatted away Katherine’s final score attempt with the simple swat of her broomstick.


While the chasers swirled about in pursuit of the quaffle, however, the teams waged an entirely different sort of war alongside them. Chikao Narumi flew in behind Mahoubaton’s Florian LeRoy and grabbed on tight to propel the seeker directly at the snitch. Yet, the spin on Chikao’s throw was not the one Florian needed as the seeker failed to grasp the snitch by several meters. Elsewhere, Louca Dufort scanned the area but never found anyone to save, although it was not for any lack of violence.

Olive Adair, the fearless, wasn’t keen on Chikao showing his spooky face around the stadium anymore. Whirling in for a blatch, the Thunderbird may have yet underestimated some hidden talent just waiting to burst from the stolid boy who otherwise was not gifted with powers of evasion [0 native EVA]. Suddenly, a thunderbolt shook from the heavens and struck the center of the stadium grounds. Although the lightning blasted down dozens of meters away from any of the players, its deafening roar and blinding light presented just the opportunity for Chikao to dive to the side of Olive’s impending blow. Olive was not about to let her prey get away, no matter how disoriented she was, however. In the chaos of the struggle, arms flailing over the course of a grapple, lightweight Olive still managed to use a clever angle to overcome the massively stronger giant aficionado.

"By Merlin’s beard!” laughed Plott with happy amusement. "Even as the sky tears itself asunder, the power of Ilvermorny’s Olive Adair strikes undeterred! Still, please don’t forget your penalty lap next round, madam.”

Chikao tumbled through the sky, but not all was lost for him, as the calico beater-- Tone Bakugo-- swept in heroically to save Chikao from a deeply unpleasant landing.

The flash from the lightning briefly illuminated everything that was previously darkened by the stormclouds, exposing the golden glint of the snitch to Jamie Ziegler’s searching eye. The redheaded seeker was safe to admire the snitch’s beauty in peace as no one came to pursue him. The same could not be said for Florian, however, and soon no less than three beaters came swarming down upon him.

Everett Brooks and Miles Thatcher both sent backbeat bludgers towards Florian, only for Milo Durand to take them on himself to protect the seeker. First, Milo was able to swat Everett’s bludger right back at him, causing massive damage when Everett failed to evade, but this occupied him for a split second too long and he had to dive headfirst, bodyguard style, in front of Florian… taking Miles’s backbeat bludger directly in the chest.

Unshaken, Milo wasn’t about to slow down now-- not when his team’s seeker was on the line. Theodore Duncain came in from behind with a full-force bludger, but the best Milo could do was to throw his shoulder into the severe blow. Milo wobbled under the power of the blow, but did not fall. The bludger ricocheted off at great speed, however, shooting directly at one André Alarie dutifully circling the stadium perimeter on his penalty lap. André did not have as much to do as those in play, so he saw the bludger coming far enough in advance to get out of its way.

"It seems the Mahoutokoro – Beauxbatons team is out for blood, but everyone is still in the game so far! A testament to Ilvermorny’s prowess, wouldn’t you say?” asked Plott, half to the audience and half to his assistant.

"At present, Ilvermorny and the southerners lead in quaffle with 30 points as Mahoutokoro – Beauxbatons trails with their newfound 10 points. Now, before the next round, I need to see about that concession stand… just give me a moment…”
