Durmstrang vs. Ilvermorny-Beauxbatons - Summer 2024
threading as Johannes Sauer
speaking in russian unless specified
The life of a Durmstrangian keeper, as contradictory as it seemed, was not well-spent actually keeping his hoops from danger. It was rare for Johannes to face real competition in the lower rungs of Quidditch, enough so that even he had tried his hand at chaser-ing. Fun enough, if not massively annoying. When your goal-protective keeper gets to get his hands dirty, that’s when you know things don’t matter anymore. Yet if things went to plan, the other team would realize their mistakes and recognize the inherent purpose of Durmstrang's brutal disregard. They were not playing simply for playing's sake— but to leverage the odds in their favour as much as possible. The quaffle of all things was the least of their worries.
Even so, the Hellhound trusted enough in Greta's brilliant expertise to take on Lysander's graduated role as a dedicated saver. He'd mourn the lack of silly commentary to mark Durmstrang's first 50 points if not for the peripheral view of their #19 dancing circles around their opponents' terrible reflexes. Who needed six chasers on the field when one Horntail could outmatch two? Never without a side of cheeky foulplay, a few well-weighed blatches downed two of Ilvermorny-Beauxbatons’ upperclassmen in one fell swoop. If being paired against Durmstrang didn't already chip at their morale, this first round certainly would.
Flying somewhat lower than the rest of his team, Johannes arguably had the best view of their strategic carnage. If he had been any less occupied, perhaps he could have joined Madhup in rubbing some salt in the wound of forced disadvantage. A quip about Canadians here, another about bullying grade-schoolers there. Unfortunately for Durmstrang’s sparkling morale (Romeo, you don’t count), Johannes’ role as saviour was well-needed by virtue of sheer enemy hubris.
With all of the singular focus of a provoked bull (or more accurately, a trained sighthound with a prize to catch), he instinctually dove forward towards a familiar streak of falling red. Roughly hauled up by the arm, his poor teammate wouldn’t join the backdrop of falling foreigners yet. The absolute power move that was being near-entirely unscathed by the end of a decimated Quidditch match was too tempting to pass up. "Everything alright back there?" He manoeuvred smoothly out of enemy lines, quickly adjusting for the unfamiliar weight distribution of another rider. How did Lysander do this so easily? Note to self: Don't pick someone up like that again. Yet the painful jolt of momentary strain could not slow Johannes' momentum. It’s only when penalty laps are doled out that he really looks back, any off-hand concern disappearing as swiftly as a high-flying snitch.
Of all the people to catch, it just had to be the one Johannes cared about the least… Say, was it too late to add another victim to the round’s KO list? His only saving grace (was he the saving grace now?) was how well Alaric had soaked a bludger meant for their occupied seeker. The kid could be useful for something then. Meat-shielding was inglorious as hell, but it solidified Alaric's vague importance to the team enough to prevent Johannes from shoving him off completely. As easy as it would have been (and it would have been extrodinarily easy— he didn't even have to get his hands dirty if he flipped the right way), losing one of their own this early into the game would simply be uneconomical. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Johannes would rather not get chewed out by Romeo, who had a perfect seat to witness friendly-fire murders. Poking the bear would do him no favours after witnessing the slug attack's ferality.
The sharp sting of irritation softened slightly at Alaric's begrudging gratitude, a shared language easing the terrible prospect of broom-sharing with his least favourite underclassman. Johannes could hold a grudge for another's sake, but he was far from heartless. Even so, a singular show of good manners couldn't compensate for the vat of bad blood between the two. Brusquely, he dismissed the olive branch of good sportsmanship, keeping to Russian. "This is for Valya's sake, not yours. Now hold on tight and don't fall off again." To think that he of all players would be deemed competent enough to double or triple-fly with… Ever-accustomed to agility flying and broom diving, riding with this adrenaline junkie would be closer to sitting in the last car of a roller coaster track. Excitingly dangerous, but deemed (relatively) safe only by trust, adrenaline and the threat of higher-up intervention.

- In the role of Keeper when you attempt to block your goal, if your opponent somehow has advantage on attempting to score a goal, that is negated (they only have their normal single roll against you).
- In the role of Keeper a critical success on an attempt to block a goal not only means that the Keeper caught the quaffle but they have also successfully passed the quaffle (without a chance of interception) to an allied target of their choice. A critical failure in this case cannot happen for a Keeper, they get to re-roll the attempt to block.
- In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.

Then she suddenly realized what that meant, it was time for her to play beater, before she knew it, it was time for her to step in. She mounted her broom and took off in to the sky where the rest of the players were. It had been so long since she had played quidditch before but she was ready to play, the last time she had sat on a broom was when she had played a game with her old friends and her brothers friends, that had not endded up so well.
She looked around to catch what was happening, everyone was zooming around, she felt really weird playing with all these players who seemed to have been playing all their lives, she had learned how to play when she was only 5 and had not gotten used to her fear of heights then, but now she knew there was no fear in heights at all, she was a chicken for being afraid, that made her weak. Jane's only real worry was not the fear of dropping of her broom, but really, what if she failed miserably? It had been a while since she'd last played, what if she was worse at quidditch then she thought? What if she ruined the game for everyone? She shook her head, that won't happen.Broom: School Broom

ROUND 2
A note to all players: The word count minimum is 50 words. The next deadline to post and submit strategy is 120 hours from the time this is posted. If you believe a mistake has been made in the calculations of this round, please reach out to a quidditch moderator (any of the team captains/cocaptains) ASAP so it can be addressed promptly.
Team Durmstrang Snitch Find/Catch DC: 27 (wisdom) / 25 (accuracy)
Team Ilvermorny-Beauxbatons Snitch Find/Catch DC: 29 (wisdom) / 27 (accuracy)
Average Wisdom of Team 9 + 15 = 24 (Cheating DC for Team Ilvermorny-Beauxbatons)
Average Wisdom of Team 8 + 15: 23 (Cheating DC for Team Durmstrang)
Unlike the previous round, the quaffle would simply be completely neglected by the players as they chose different actions to help their team. Plus, it didn't help that half of the chasers on the field were completing penalty laps from previous fouls anyway.Quaffle Grabs:
ReducioNo rolls requiring the quaffle.
Margarethe, one of the aforementioned chasers, had elected to assist the Durmstrang seeker Valentin to try and catch the snitch. She would do her best to use her strength to alley oop Valentin towards the snitch, but it would just slip out of his fingers despite his best efforts. The opposing seeker Kaya, on the other hand, would easily spot this attempt and thus clock the location of the snitch from these clues.Seekers
ReducioValentin is being alley-ooped by Margarethe. Kaya is still looking for the snitch.
-1 to acc from charmer is applied here.
Valentin has no disadvantage because of his Oakshaft 79 ability.
Valentin:
Acc: 4 + 21 - 1 = 24
Valentin does not catch the snitch!
Kaya:
Wis: 16 + 12 + 1 = 29
Kaya finds the snitch!
As for the beaters, Slava neatly lined up a shot towards Miles and Louca, which would easily hit them and send them tumbling. Miles would be unable to be saved, but Louca was quickly saved by Nathan, who had been watching the action and keeping a careful eye out for any potential falling allies. Slava's hit would again ricochet, this time to the unsuspecting Stephen, who, caught off guard, would suffer a hit that would also fell him, causing him to also tumble towards the ground. A rogue bludger, ignored, would shoot towards Amber, hitting her but luckily with not too much force.Beaters
ReducioSlava is bludgering Miles/Louca, ricochet to Stephen. Jane is bludgering Valentin - post was past the deadline so action is not counted.
These accuracy rolls all have -1 due to charmer.
Slava is bludgering Miles/Louca:
CP (10): 7
EM (10): 4
Slava acc: 12 + 26 - 1 = 37
Miles/Louca eva: 5 + 12 = 17
Miles/Louca are hit for 25*75=1875 damage and KOB!
Ricochet to Stephen:
CP (10): 10
EM (10): 9
Stephen is hit for 25*75=1875 damage and KOB!
Rogue Bludger towards Ilver-Beaux:
Target selected by Tatsu: Amber
Bludger acc: 15 + 5 = 20
Amber eva: 6 + 11 = 17
Amber is hit for 125 damage!
Outcome
- Margarethe alley-oops Valentin, who does not catch the snitch.
- Kaya spots the snitch.
- Slava hits Miles/Louca for 1875 damage, which makes them KOB. Louca is caught by Nathan on the save duty.
- Slava hits Stephen for 1875 damage, which makes him KOB.
- Amber, Madhup and Amina all complete their penalty lap.

Durmstrang vs. Ilvermorny-Beauxbatons - Summer 2024
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
|
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Greta slung Valentin--it was an amazing sight in my eyes at least, the vision of the tiny girl throwing a boy that was nearly a foot taller than herself and probably only barely a bit more in weight--spinning him before the White Lightning was released from the clouds and towards a direction that I had to assume was that of the snitch. The crowd seemed to hold its breath, but by the way that Valentin reacted at the end of his throw I could presume that the little silver and gold ball had not managed to come into his hands.
Pivoting on my heel a bit and ruffling my hair in mild frustration, I shook my head before beholding the rest of the scene: Slava's bludger destroyed two other boys as they crashed to the earth, but that one kid seemed tenacious enough to be caught by yet another individual, Johannes with Alaric alongside hovered close to the earth with eyes on every one of our players on the field.
"Okay okay! We still have this! We're getting them where we want them if nothing else!" I called out to the rest of the team. Our two star cheaters' uniforms returned back to the fray after having taken the 'lap of shame'. "Welcome back, Madman and Mimi! We're still on and not done yet, so give them Hell!" I gesticulated towards the straggling fragments of the opponent team with a straight arm and directing hand with fingers similarly straight and extended. "Go! Go! Go!" I was almost running after them with the force of my shout, demanding that they hurry back as fast as possible. Even if I wasn't playing, I was still nearly breaking out in a mild sweat with the effort of direction.
Exhaling through my teeth, my brow furrowed. "One more round to put this team in the ground... VALYA!" I spoke as an aside to the rest of the benched second strings with me before I bellowed as loud as I could manage, cupping my hands to my mouth. "I APPRECIATE YOUR SPORTSMANSHIP IN GIVING THEM A CHANCE--BUT LET'S NOT GIVE THE REFS TIME TO TRY TO PULL A 2023 REPEAT, SHALL WE?!" An indication of understanding was given. I nodded exaggeratedly in reply. "EXACTLY. ALL YOU, VOLANTE VALENTE! Literally: Flying Valentin"
My binoculars returned to the stands again, observing my brother again pumping his fist in the air. He could get quite excitable, couldn't he.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Ricochet:In the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself).

Brutal Critical:In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

Durmstrang vs. Ilvermorny-Beauxbatons - Summer 2024
The increasingly distant sounds marking Slava’s devastation of multiple opponents came to Valya like an orchestral string section in a dream. The unusual strategic choices of the Ilvermorny-Beauxbatons team would have to be explored together with Romeo and the rest of the team later, because all Valentin could afford to focus on now was catching the golden snitch.
Weaving after the chaotic orb that tossed itself this way and that, the seeker felt himself falling into its trance. The way it capriciously danced, beautiful and alluring but utterly fickle… the winged orb came to Valya as an embodiment of the human heart itself. Perhaps it was the lingering physiological effects following a year and a half of a parasitic slug malady, or it might have been pity for the strawberry blonde “Frost Hart” circling the stadium perimeter in a penalty lap. It very well might have been lingering trauma from the previous day’s events at the Mistletoe Ball…. but Valentin’s usually sharp focus blurred.
Turning his eyes away for just a moment, a strange motion seemed to be overtaking the stands around Romeo’s spectating brother, but surely it was just a strange eddy in the air that made the area seem to slip around like a puddle stirred by a buried mud skipper. A glint of light caught his eye, bright white but somehow vaguely green. Only one second later Valentin’s eyes whirled to lock back onto the snitch and he saw that his hand was reaching for it. This bodily reflex was the product of training under years of mind-meltingly abhorrent conditions that forced high performance skill to become automatic.
Something was wrong in Valya’s heart, though, that would intervene in what should have been a perfect grab. It wasn’t Greta’s fault whatsoever, as she had been flawless. It wasn’t the training’s fault. Valentin’s hand extended into the perfect position, the correct angle, the ideal amount of muscular tension. His hand began to cup the snitch as his speed matched his target’s perfectly, and the fluttering wind of its wingbeats buffeted the sensitive skin of his scarred palm. It was right there. Yet, Valentin’s hand didn’t close around his treasure. Even a heart so flighty was perfectly within his grasp, if only he would close his fingers around it… but he didn’t – for just one second, he didn’t. Then, in a burst of stochastic spin, the snitch was gone again, bumbling away off into the distance.
Sighing, Valentin knew he’d let more than his team down. He knew he couldn’t blame everything on the slug, as powerful as it had been. He couldn’t blame the aberration in the stands. He only had a hole in his heart where he thought he had filled it, and in this lacuna fled that second of the seeker’s otherwise perfect determination. Like a miniature black hole had opened up and swallowed his will within a single flicker of a candleflame, Valentin learned that something was missing from him.
In a panic, Valentin turned his gaze to the stands, looking for his ward Nikolai and his little draconic pepper-imp dance. Val’s hand lay down over his chest to find that the snowdrop he thought he had pinned there so securely was gone. Looking around, he couldn’t find it anywhere. It might have gotten carried off by a stray wind during his chase, or flung from him with the momentum of Greta’s assist, or…? Terror struck as beads of sweat poured down the back of Valentin’s neck, and he turned his eyes to where Romeo was, and then back to his co-captain’s brother. Something was wrong. What this was, Valentin didn’t know, but something was definitely wrong.
Turning his eyes back to where he felt the golden snitch must be, Valentin spotted it once more and yet… relief did not come. Something was happening and he knew there was nothing in this moment he could do about it. Like a child crying in the woods, Valya’s heart ached. Yet, the voice of reason chimed like a tower bell.
Take the snitch. You have to take it. Now.

Half of her had been expecting the game to be over by now, with how things went the first round, and when she saw the Durmstrang seeker reach out for the snitch Jamie thought is was over. But at the last second he missed and it went flying again, giving her team a chance at securing it as well.
Unfortunately one of their chasers went down, which meant that Jamie was in the game officially now, not that she minded as it gave her more practice and she could play against a team that was really quite good.
Immediately stepping onto her broom she flies up into the air joining the game and hoping to score at least once, or at least prevent the Durmstrang chasers from scoring. If she couldn't do that she'd be keeping an eye out to see if she could learn anything from their techniques.

Durmstrang vs. Ilvermorny-Beauxbatons - Summer 2024
english | russian
As Amina raced around the stadium, she kept a close eye on what was happening. Her fingers closed tightly around the wood of her broom as she saw the familiar and perfect combination that her beloved Greta was performing with Valentin.
Her heart leapt into her throat, her breath stopped when she saw the white lightning bolt shoot past. She saw him stretch and then not close his hand around the golden ball as usual.
Her hasty triumph dissolved into further tension. And a little relief. It would have been a record, but it would also have been a bit of a shame. After all, the match had only just begun and Amina was far from being done!
Slava apparently decided to make sure the other team was done. More people falling, felled by perfect attacks from their star beater. “Yay, Slava, you are a rockstar!”
Although - Amina pulled a face when she saw her fake made up date Stevie (alias Stephen) fall. She would have loved to play against him. Well, maybe she would bring him flowers to the hospital wing instead.
When she saw that the one who had just made a pillion on another broom (alias Louca) was caught again, she giggled and caught up with Mad.
“Dude, this kid had more different contacts then the quaffle so far!”
Then she ducked down even more over her loyal broomstick, finishing up her penalty lap at full speed, ready to be back on. Mid air she spun around and yelled as loudly as she possibly could: “You can do it, Vayla! Go go GOOOO!”

A good luck nod was directed at Madhup when the boy managed to catch his eye. He'd joke about offering him a kiss on the cheek too but Felix was pretty certain the two had done enough kissing the night before.
Felix could relax for a moment, because Senya's thousand yard stare was transfixed on Valentin instead. The captain could handle it; he was accustomed to hauntings, battling phantoms for those he cared about. It was a shame he insisted on hiding his own wight behind a curtain, the decaying Oz's death-rattle breathing only stalling to wheeze, 'pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!'
He paid little attention to Astrid's screeching-turned-cheers. It might have bothered a younger Felix but clearly he had grown from the grump that he once was. He definitely never snapped and did things out of pocket anymore. ... Except for all the times he did.
How the hell their tiny little fireball, Greta, managed to fling a man a entire foot taller than her was beyond his knowledge. He could hardly see his team mates so high up in the air but he would recognize those wild tresses anywhere; they had almost murdered him a few times. "Holy shit, go Greta." Felix said, mostly to himself.
Well, it seemed like it was raining life-sized Ken dolls thanks to Slava, the older boy had managed to send Stephen barreling towards the ground to meet his fate. Damn, Slava, didn't anyone tell you that you're supposed to recycle plastic?

Durmstrang vs. Ilvermorny-Beauxbatons - Summer 2024

Valentin (@Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood), Felix (@Winnie Harper)
Semyon had his gaze on Valentin but it was practically fleeting as his gaze and mind wandered over the different students that were currently in the air. The remaining team of the mixed school team seemed scarce now, like a carcass of a forest animal that had been picked apart to leave behind only what was not as much of a treat, nor as desirable of a target of the predators that roamed the sky.
It was an exclaim from the bench somewhat near him (with no one between actually, despite ample space) that made his head turn and stare at the boy with the white colored hair, who had momentarily rid himself of the almost ever-present scowl. He tried to read into the exclaim as his gaze drifted of into emptiness, pupils loosing their focus despite his gaze still being directed toward Felix until without further reasoning they drifted back towards the sky, first to Greta, then Valentin. Semyon was aware that the snitch was on the loose and while he was actively keeping an eye out, he also kept his focus on the goal hoops and the remaining chasers and keeper of the other team, reading into their movements and strategy so that if he had to switch in, ready for the unlikely opportunity to actually occur against actual belief, he would be ready to face them.

ReducioIn the role of Keeper when you attempt to block your goal, if your opponent somehow has advantage on attempting to score a goal, that is negated (they only have their normal single roll against you).In the role of Keeper a critical success on an attempt to block a goal not only means that the Keeper caught the quaffle but they have also successfully passed the quaffle (without a chance of interception) to an allied target of their choice. A critical failure in this case cannot happen for a Keeper, they get to re-roll the attempt to block.
Note: Critical failure and critical success chances can be expanded with certain abilities and skills
