Camp 2023 Summer Duels, Game 1: Ravenclaw vs Slytherin

In the wake of Pericles' attack, there developed a marked hesitation. He saw no signs of resignation from Opeila, something both concerning and admirable. Del and Phae were both on their feet. With the Ravenclaw team on the mend, and the Slytherins whittled down to one tenacious witch, the end was in sight.

After a nice chunk of healing, Del was ready to get this over and done with, this duel had to be the shortest one she had done in quite a long time, not to discredit the slytherins that tried their best. It was just simply not in their favour this time around. Maybe del would have a rematch with them sometime and it would be more fair.

The revenge came in no time. Opeila heard Pericles' say the incantation, next the force of the spell almost sent her flying off her feet. She stumbled a little but managed to catch herself with one hand on the ground.

Her own spell also went perfectly fine, hitting the girl who was almost down at this point- only that she doesn't anymore. Guess there was a reason that she was only hit by one spell now, the rest of the team was healing her now. Couldn't even let me take one of you down with me, could you...

With Slytherin outnumbered, her team could afford to take a few liberties. Delilah's healing was among the strongest of the current senior lineup, especially combined with the advantages of spell splitting. Despite the rejuvenating burst, Opeila's Flipendo chipped Phaedra in the shoulder, earning a sharp inhale. And at her side, it was not overlooked that Pericles had once again delivered a successful blow for the team. She smiled. Well, look at that. Someone's aim was impeccable.

Alan had never seen a round with such awesome potential and then the most anticlimactic results. Opeila almost masterfully crafted the shield spell to save her from any incoming spells and the Ravenclaw trio had fallen right into her trap. Delilah’s Blasting Curse would burst into sparks of nothingness when it collided with the shield, whereas Phaedra’s spell of sizzling lightning energy would rebound towards herself. With great intuition she narrowly avoided the spell, possibly feeling how the energy reacted with her water soaked clothes. There also was another bolt that seemed to strike for both Peri and Opeila, and it was electrifying. Only Peri’s Knockback jinx seemed to manage to pierce through the shield but as if guided by supernatural force, Opeila knew the exact moment she needed to dodge out of its way. And in the end, nothing at all had happened, except for a small showcase of lightning that struck two of them for a bit of damage.

Protego was to be expected, but a cast that held out against three potent spells was not. Phaedra's torrential Tempest was tossed back at them, Del's explosive Confringo sizzled out on its surface, and even when his Flipendo finally smashed through what remained of the shield, Pei swung out of its course by a hair's breadth. Pericles' wide-eyed expression was easy enough to read: he wasn't just electrocuted, he was impressed.

Action: As strategized.

Was it the adrenaline that drove her? Frustration? Honestly, Opeila had no idea, but she had never appreciated the shield charm as much as she did now. An explosion spell bounced off of it, then a tempest pressed against it. It was Pericles' Flipendo that finally got through, but it didn't matter. It was almost as if Opeila felt its presence as she spun out of the way just in time.

Satisfaction at the look on her cousin's face was what finally broke her focus. Something else pierced the shield, a lightning and this time Opeila did not evade. The lightning hit her with full force, making her stumble and feel shaken for a few seconds. The shield was gone.

That protego, good move on peis part, annoying move on the ravenclaws. As the spells bounced off and occasionally broke through, it ended up doing just as much damage to peri as it did to pei in the first place. That wasn't great but they could work with it, there had to be some way to work with it.

Tempest. This time it was Phaedra with a shield pierce, one of her lightning strikes cutting through Opeila’s defenses. The other two came with less than favourable results, rebounding each in Ravenclaw’s general direction, but so was the spirit of the game. In a final burst of energy akin to the agility of her cousin, Phaedra spun away from her own curse, her robes soaked around her ankles. Pericles was not as graceful, and with her eyes she offered him a wordless apology.

RAVENCLAW WINS

As it seemed the chances for victory seemed to dwindle and the more Opeila tried to oppose that fate, the more tenacious the Murder of Merlin seemed to strategize against her. And so it came that despite avoiding the Knockback jinx from Pericles, Opeila missed also in her retaliation to hit Phaedra with her own, in an attempt to take the girl down with her. It was then however, that both Phaedra and Delilah decided that they had enough of playing around and went for two Blasting curses that made the piste beneath Opeila's feet erupt in splinters and shrapnel. She of course wasn't spared and the pain that came with the curse would give her the last push as she found herself losing consciousness. In an instant Alan stepped up to the piste and interrupted the duel, Alright, alright! Ravenclaw has won," he quickly stopped the trio from casting any more spells at the single viper and ensured that Opeila was grabbed by a couple of medwing assistants so that the girl would receive some first aid. Alan then faced back to the eagles and gave them a grin, "Well I guess I should be glad we didn't tie this time, this was brutal! Well done, consider this won," he chirped before offering his hand to shake to the contestants. "Please ensure you seek medical aid, you all seem a little roughed up!"
