SUMMER GAMES - SPECTATOR THREAD
[22nd of July, 2023]
It was reaching the end of the summer camp, one of the last weekends left for the young students to gather. And what a pleasant day it seemed to be, which often came as a surprise in the usually cold and wet Scotland. However on this day the sun decided to pay the students a visit, as it shone warmly across the fields and meadows. This was however not the only thing that would remain special about this day. It was the day reserved for the Duelling Tournament. A chance for both Ravenclaw and Slytherin duellists to prove their superiority among themselves and the other schools that dared to sign up their duellists in this friendly competition. Numerous students had decided to show up and even more students have decided to use this opportunity and watch the duels commence. It was often a spectacle for many students, even just among the Hogwarts duelling season. Now all schools had something to prove and students have the chance to duel against other students who they might never have the chance to duel against under normal circumstances. That is the excitement about this. The experience, memories and pure joy of duelling and of course, the spectators that were there to cheer them on in numbers!

Morning slot
It was a beautiful day, with the sun shining brightly—something Slava had grown to understand was fairly rare for Scotland. The fact that it was a Saturday just further amplified the good mood encouraged by the weather. Several weeks of summer camp had now passed, and Slava had fallen into his own rhythm and rough schedule, although it was modified on days when events happened. Today was one such day, as the duelling tournament would be taking place over the next few hours. This wasn’t immediately relevant to him at a first glance—he was the farthest thing from a duellist, and much preferred Quidditch. However, his brother, Maksim, was competing in this tournament, and being the good brother that Slava was, he had made a note of the day so he could show up and support Max.

10am eventually rolled around, marking the starting time of the morning duels. Itching with secondhand excitement, Slava had been ready and waiting as the minutes beforehand had ticked away. Then, the duellists showed up, and Slava eyed the Hogwarts students. They looked scary. There was something about two of them that was deeply chilling—awful vibes, really. But seriously, Slava wouldn’t want to be facing them. He didn’t even know their reputations, but he could tell they were trouble. The fact that one of the girls was pretty and alluring despite her apparent scariness was even worse—his gaze kept drifting to her, and he wasn’t sure whether it was out of appreciation for her natural beauty or to make sure he kept her in his sight to confirm she wasn’t going to suddenly attack the spectators.

So caught up in the intense presence of those two, he hadn’t even noticed that he knew the other girl. That was Ruby, Margo’s best friend. But there was none of the attempted friendliness and somewhat fun nature she had demonstrated around Margo present today. He should’ve known that her clearly competitive nature and slight aloofness that was apparent even when she was relaxed would have led her to be the type to engage in wizarding sports. And while Ruby might not have had quite the aura that the other two did, there was still something quite off-putting about the way she carried herself, the intensity and simultaneous coldness in her eyes, the slight sneer twisting her lips, that made Slava understand that he was lucky to have met her in the circumstances that he had.

Still, while the Hogwarts team may have been intimidating, Slava had utter faith in his brother. He wasn’t familiar with Max’s teammates, but hoped that they could properly back Max up and take down the other team. One of them was awfully critical and controversial—Slava hoped he had the skills to back up this trash talking—while the other seemed much more collected and looked like the type to be a good duellist. The slight furrowing of Max’s eyebrows wouldn’t go unnoticed—if there was anybody Slava was fully attuned to, it would be his brother—and he really hoped that the other duellists weren’t throwing Max off too much. He deserved to have a fun game. As the six readied themselves, spells about to fly, Slava started clapping. “LET’S GO, MAKSIM! GO GUEST TEAM!” he yelled, first in Russian before repeating it in English for the benefit of the others. This would surely be a match worth watching.

After witnessing the sour mood Hana was in yesterday, Eun-ji felt even more compelled to come and spectate the morning match. She would have gone anyway since it was her team competing but that whole situation just added to her curiosity. Honestly, the witch wasn't sure whether the boy even wanted her here, considering how sure he was they were going to lose but it was not like she was here to see him specifically. He couldn't be mad at her for being here. She had every right to support her teammates. Besides, Eun-ji was generally pretty quiet audience so he might not even notice her presence.

Finding a spot not too close to the piste, the witch observed all of the duellists. She quickly realised that for once, she knew most of them personally. In fact, Bridget was the only one she did not know. Was that going to make the match even more exciting or harder to watch? Probably both. Wait...What’s with the Feather boas? Eun-ji couldn’t help but chuckle quietly. She wondered who came up with that idea but honestly, it was understandable. Even she wouldn’t want to face this particular trio of Ravens. She supposed if you knew you were going to lose, you might as well just have fun with it.

It didn’t take long for Hana to open his mouth and start being his usual self. The witch expected as much but eventually caught herself frowning a little bit. It made no sense. She knew what he was like and never minded it before… Then again, wasn’t she entitled to a little bit of displeasure, considering their yesterday’s encounter? Any other day, Eun-ji most likely wouldn’t care at all but today it just felt…off. No matter, soon enough Del, Peri and Phae would make sure he didn’t have time to flirt. With the three of them, it was bound to be a wild ride.

And a wild ride it was. Eun-ji actually felt bad about her previous thought, seeing Hana suffer right from the start. Her team was full of people, who knew how to split spells and she herself was taught to do so by Delilah so it wasn’t surprising when spells started flying left and right and Hana got the worst of it. The raven-haired girl found herself torn between feeling proud and uneasy. Either way, it was very clear this was going to be anything but boring. The Slytherin team might have not been too optimistic about their chances but they were still doing their best and actually made Phae suffer quite a bit. Still, nobody suffered quite as much as the cheeky little rouge. By round three, he looked utterly exhausted and couldn’t even bother continuing his flirting with Alan. Eun-ji couldn’t help but wince every time he got hit with yet another spell. He was clearly doing his best but against such line up…there was little he could do.

It was only the fourth round, when Eun-ji's breath hitched as Del’s powerful Confringo sent Hanako tumbling to the ground. She got a taste of her own medicine thanks to Bridget’s well-timed shield but unlike Hana, she wasn’t knocked unconscious by it. The harsh landing itself seemed extremely painful but then Peri also managed to hit with his spell and Eun-ji unknowingly took a small step forward. What was she doing? She was conditioned to help whenever there was an injury involved but she never felt the need to do so during the official duels. After all, there were professionals that would take care of the duellists and the duellists themselves knew what they signed up for. Just as she finished the thought, a pair of nurse aides rushed to move Hanako out of the harm’s way. That’s right. That’s how it was supposed to be. Why should she get involved? Eun-ji shook her head as if to get rid of all the confusing and useless thoughts. Alright…enough. Let’s just finish watching. That is why she was here. To watch her team win this fight.

Finally, summer camp was coming to an end and Kim could go home and wallow, without being bothered.

He didn't really want to go home. But he also didn't want to stay either. At least at home, he'd have Kami and be able to spend some time with Ryu and the others. Hebi and Fukuro would be there too, if his parents were present. It was 3PM and time for his best friend's fiance to show up at her duel. Kim hadn't missed most of her duels, except for that one time. He didn't intend on missing any others. Even if Eun-ji didn't seem to care if he was there or not, he'd still come. For her. The two of them were like soulmates, in almost every aspect....

They knew how to convey their emotions and thoughts without even speaking one single word to eachother. A lot of people couldn't do that, but Kim and Eun-ji were different from most people. Over the years, they'd come to know eachother a lot better and both were very comfortable with eachother now. Kim took a seat and watched as the duelists were introduced and the matches began. He met Eun-ji's eyes as she came out and inclined his head towards her. No cheers or words were spoken. She didn't need such things from him....

She knew without words that Kim supported her above anyone else there.

One of the two Ravenclaw members supporting Eun-ji happened to be Feathers. One of Sia's love interests.

If he was in his usual mood, Kim might have made a snarky comment relating to this, but he wasn't feeling like himself and hadn't been for quite some time. It felt like ages and also fresh, he felt like he was floating and both here and not here at the same time. A sigh escaped his lips as he stared at the piste, his eyes not really seeing or focusing on anything or anyone in particular. The duel began, with all of the guests going after Eun-ji. As time went on, the guests seemed to decide their priority targets would be Eun-ji + Feathers...

Kim's brow furrowed. He didn't want to see Eun-ji lose and by 'losing' he meant her being taken out. But as time continued to pass and the duel went on, he had a feeling this duel would result in a win for her. A faint smile came to his lips, the first one since late June of that year. But of course, anything could still happen, even though it was highly unlikely. Kim took out his sketchbook and began to sketch the piste and how Eun-ji looked now on it against her opponents. He'd give it to her after her duel as a present, at the hospital wing.

Until then he'd just watch the remainder of the duel and wait for her eventual victory!

It was Saturday, July 22nd, 2023.

10AM wasn't really early for him. Tone tended to get up at the brink of dawn, sometimes even before that.

But he wasn't going to miss the dueling tournament! He needed to see at least one of them. After all, getting to see a match would be fun! Tone had debated over which to see and decided on the morning ones because if he watched the morning ones, he'd be able to socialize in the afternoon and still have a lot of time to make more friends! After seeing the names of the morning duelists, Tone grinned. There was a name he recognized! Hanako Tone. He knew him!!! Well, he'd never really met him but he'd heard his name before....

Freya had mentioned she knew someone with the same name as him. Although, Tone wondered if the other Tone pronounced his name the same way or the Japanese way, as there was a difference. He'd have to ask him later on, if he got a chance to talk to him! As Tone made his way towards the spectator stands, another familiar face appeared before him. "Well, if it isn't the lovely Freya before my eyes! You know, it must be destiny that we keep meeting like this!" Tone said with a grin, his eyes sparkling a bit at her.

"Who are you here to see? The other Tone?" Tone asked with a grin.

---

Much later, Tone returned to the afternoon matches, a bit late. He'd been caught up interacting with other people all over the place and had lost track of time. But he was there now! After all, Tone couldn't very well miss Eun-ji's match! He wanted to see how she cast spells and marvel at her skills! "You're doing great, Freya!!!" The pink haired teen exclaimed, cheering for her on the sidelines as he watched Round 7 take place. Eun-ji was doing really well, and Tone was happy to see it! She really was very good at dueling. Really.

Notes:
Tone meets up with Eun-ji and starts to chat!
This takes place directly after Hana gets knocked out btw.

Tone also goes to see Eun-ji's match later that afternoon, although comes a bit late!
