Triathalon: Round 1 Swimming
Interacting with @Evelynn Decipio
When were they about to start? The longer they waited, the more the sun was going to shine brighter and hotter than before. Everyone seemed either ready to go or chatting amongst themselves. Bloom tore her focus from ahead and looked over to the side where Howard and Serena were. She even saw, standing aways away was Aurelia. Bloom's blood boiled just looking at her. A part of her wants to slap her across the face, but Bloom knew when to hold her anger. She would rather use it for the Triathlon.
Bloom's focus on Aurelia and in that direction was stopped when she heard a familiar voice next to her. She looked over to see that it was Evelynn Decipio, the Hogwarts Headliner reporter. They had met when they were watching the Quidditch game prior. What was it, like two days ago?
"I can be competitive, just not for something like this," she said with a small laugh. "I want to be sure of myself," she added, a bit of a riddle. Bloom assumed people knew that she was in the Hogwarts Hexwizard tournament by now, and most likely, a reporter would know details. Unless she did not know, then it was something for her to figure out.
"No notebook this time around?" Bloom joked with the Gryffindor. In a way, it was nice to not be judged or know that others are not being judged right now. Isn't that reporters do?

Triathalon: Round 1 Swimming

Haven raced down to the shoreline, one hand on her hat to prevent it from flying off her head. She had already been up for hours, but in typical Haven fashion, had lost track of time, and was now hurrying to catch up. In a way, she was just getting a head start on the race.
She was a big fan of activities. Any and all of them, especially one as fun as this should be! Growing up on the beach, she quite enjoyed swimming, and was quite good at it. Her entire family enjoyed walks together... including Merlin, though they usually ended up dragging him along rather than walking the poor cat. Marcus had become quite the fan of sitting on Haven's shoulder and accompanying her on all her adventures, like the typical walks on the beach. However, given the amount of water involved today, she thought that Marcus might enjoy the comfort of the Eyepatch tent a little bit more.
It would only be a few more minutes until they could start, and Haven was so exicted. She was bouncing in place, as one would normally find her- absolutely bursting with energy. Even though she'd need to save something for later (though she'd probably still have plenty of energy, seeing how she bounced off the walls all day long), she couldn't find a way to stay still. She was much too excited. Even the night before, she was bouncing off the walls as she set out her outfit for the morning- a yellow, tropical-print swimsuit, a pair of purple shorts with a little banana embroidered detail, and of course, her trusty hat, in a matching shade of purple with bananas. This particular hat was waterproof and had a strap at the bottom, which she had hastily forgotten about.
Her forgetfulness was already starting to bite her, as a particuarly powerful gust of wind came and knocked her hat clear off her head! At least now she had something to channel all that energy into- catching her hat before it blew into the water! She ran along the shore for a little bit before jumping up to catch it. As she was not the most graceful girl, Haven promptly crashed into someone on her way down.
"Oh my goodness gracious, I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking, and I had to get my hat, and it just ties everything together, and it has the matching bananas and everything, I couldn't just-" Haven finally looked up to see who the poor soul was that she crashed into, and just stopped in her tracks, mouth agape. For once, she had no words.
Haven now understood the crushes people had on one another. She understood love at first sight! She could already imagine the two of them feeding ducks together, going for a swim... maybe he'd wear the same outfit, it showed off his body quite nicely...
Haven, you're staring! Her face immediately turned tomato red and she turned away, trying to hide the blush. Get it together. You're here to win this. But it was a bit hard to when the sights were so pretty... Nooo! she internally groaned, burying her head into her hat. Just don't look. Beat him to the finish line. No big deal. She nodded to herself, before finding the hat starting to creep down a little, enough to get another glance at him. Look away! LOOK AWAY! WALK! She commanded herself. She would not get wrapped up with some boy, absolutely not. To remedy this, she started to walk away, head still buried in her hat. Naturally, she tripped a little, but managed to not wind up face down in the dirt. That was one point for her, but the universe was still in the lead.
As a distraction, Haven busied herself with putting back on her hat, this time, making sure the straps were secure and would not fall off while she was swimming or running or who-knows-what. She couldn't let a win just go to waste!

So far summer camp had been full of surprises, and Della supposed that the triathlon would be no different. However, due to her recent success with sports in the air, she decided to try some closer to the ground. She hadn't proved to be an amazing swimmer or runner in the past, but every year her limbs only seemed to get longer—her muggle relatives often joked that she should consider looking into the Olympics. She wanted to see if she had any natural talent.
However, like all summer camp events, there was a range of nationalities, skillsets, and ages. So Della didn't have her hopes too high about winning and was looking forward to an afternoon of fun. And as always, she was on a mission to be just a little more outgoing and maybe make a friend.
She stood at the edge of the water, her towel around her shoulders, covering her brand new two-piece bathing suit; she was deciding how best to dive in when they started. Head first was probably more efficient, but a little scary. A cannon ball might be better—
Her thoughts were interrupted by "you ready to fight?"
Della jumped, shocked both by the sudden words next to her and the content of the speech. An angry looking, albeit handsome if he wasn't so angry looking, boy was talking to her.
Before she could process his question and formulate a response, he said, "with me."
Della wished she had her wand. She let out a confused, burgeoning-on-irate response, "No I'm good, thanks. I think we're swimming not fighting."
But she wasn't sure if the boy had heard her response, because he began stammering incoherently, in English? In Japanese? Just gibberish? And he ended with a perfectly normal statement about the weather.
Della eyed him suspiciously. She crossed her arms over chest in a huff. "Are you okay?"

Quentin thought this trip was shaping up much better than his spring trip to Hogwarts. He was a little more confident, and the summer camp wasn't in that maze of a castle in Scotland. They were in London, which was like Paris, only not as good. He hadn't successfully dragged in friends from home this time either, though. He would have to enjoy the trip solo. Or make new friends, no matter the language.
As he arrived on the scene, his towel around his neck and his favorite orange speedo securely in place, he scanned the crowd. He spotted Florian, a schoolmate and teammate. They had competed in a Quidditch game only a few days ago, and he was on Beauxbatons's Hexiwizard team. He seemed cool enough, and Quentin beelined to him with a friendly smile.
"Salut Florian! Are you good at swimming or is it just seeking for you? I'm probably alright at swimming—I do wish wizards would play more contact sports, you know! I've heard muggle schools let people wrestle." Yup, that was Quentin—he always had one thing on his mind. But hopefully his tides would turn today, and he'd find some luck with the race. He noticed Florian was in the middle of stretching, and he did his best to copy the older boy's moves, his limbs failing about comically.

For the most part of the quidditch game, Hadrian spent his time mostly benched. It wasn't great just watching, nothing much to scratch that itch for some fun and action. And ultimately, he was drawn to the competitiveness of the triathlon. The crowd near the ship's waters were growing and Hadrian approached. For someone as large and bulky as he was, he was rather graceful. But with a crowd this large, it was likely his appearance was noticed by a few. ([d100 : 55]
He was just here to get his blood pumping and ideally, come in the top 10. Show off, perhaps. Especially with the other schools, aside from his own, there were not many who knew his name outside of Ilvermorny. Winning might make him a little more known. Who wouldn't like that? Living not to far from the beaches of Virginia, his swimming was decent at most. Climbing was definitely his strongest suit. Shame that wasn't till the later in the tournament.
For now, he'd look around for anyone he knew. And quickly enough, his attention was again captured by the almost magnetic visage of Aurelia - his betrothed. With her boyfriend, hands entwined How long had they been together anyways? Questions. Ones he might ask her himself someday. While the dynamic of their relationship was fluid, from what he was noticing, this one Aurelia had acquired seemed quite long-term and going strong.

Michael didn't fully understand why it had occurred to him to sign up for the triathlon. The reasons for the camp were simple, of course; Ilvermorny was one of the participating schools, he had nothing to do in the summer, and both Nick and George would be attending. But the triathlon had been a completely spontaneous thing, and neither of his two friends would be taking part.
Why, then, had he signed up? As he approached with the other competitors, he decided it certainly wasn't because he liked the heat. At all. The day was sweltering, especially for such an early morning. Mike guessed it would get infinitely worse once the competition was over, and he'd never been any good at handling temperatures as high as that. Well, he'd been good at it, but frankly, he hated it. Unless, of course, there was a swimming pool involved, then it was a monumental change. And this time, there was one.
The stadium was already huge in itself, and overflowing with water? Without a doubt, it was the biggest pool Michael had ever been near of in his whole life. He was wearing only his swimsuit, dark grey, as it should be on any occasion.
His adventurous spirit, as always, made his heart pump with power, and from time to time, in spite of the heat, his right hand trembled with the amount of accumulated adrnaline. Yes.
That was the reason why he was there. New experiences like that where he could run and feel free for a while, compete, even if he didn't like to lose at all. Adventure at its purest state. He inhaled deeply as he watched the rest of the people approaching, and exhaled long and hard. He was ready.

───•─•────────────────────────────────────•─•───"Oh?" Evelynn brow lofted with curiosity, more than a little intrigued by the insinuation of the elder girl's response. Competitive, but not for something like this. The lioness's gaze slid past Silverton towards the crowd a little further in the distance to which her own attention had been cast moments earlier. There certainly was a certain amount of contest when climbing the social ladder, she supposed; or in asserting one's position in that sphere.
The follow-up comment, though, was a little more interesting. Eyes would reel themselvs back to the Ravenclaw, regarding her curiously for a few breaths before panning out to the water. "You are questioning your value." It wasn't a question. It didn't need to be. Recollection had dawned on her in that moment that the voice she had heard in the stands expressing plight for a friend sounded hte same as the girl's. And the only ones who wanted to be sure of themselvs were those who weren't.
"No..." Evelynn would smile back, thoughts cut off by the humourously-intended quip. "No notebook."[/color] A shrug of a brow accompanied a flourish of a hand twoards the water. "Ink does not tend to dry well when submerged, I am afraid. And I see no quidditch game in progress for which to study and make note of strategy to develop counter-plays."
Another side-eye would precede her own question, "Why do you find yourself in doubt?"Action: Waiting for the race to start

He had recognized that this was going south really fast. But not so south that nothing could be salvaged or smoothed over. When he screws up his words, it’s a common occurrence for others to take it as a red flag and scurry away before he can apologize. While she was evidently on guard from his earlier blunder, she had guts! One thing Sara could always appreciate is those who could stand up to his intimidating appearance. But perhaps now is not a good time to gush over how brave this silver haired lady is.
“Oh nonono”he adamantly nodded his head disapprovingly. “ I - I do not like fighting also. I like being a 2nd string beater in Quidditch.” Okay, maybe talking about being in a position whose job is literally to knock people out wasn’t a good idea. “ E-erm I mean. I said wrong word. I do not mean fight as like- pow pow bam” while he explained the ‘pow pow bam’s, he clenched his fists gently and started doing weak pretend punches into the air that separated the space between the two.
“ Ya. I mean erm..competing. In this event” Upon saying this, it seemed like the guilt of making this girl misunderstand his words manifested. He dropped his priorly somewhat energetic hands to his sides and looked to the floor. “S-sorry, silver-haired lady” he spoke softly as he could, eager not to make eye contact with her in worry she won’t believe him.
Now usually this would be the time for him to leave in shame. There were occasions when his apologies were not accepted as genuine when he still looked so irritated. In the past, he would only begrudgingly accept this fate of his, not wanting to cause any more harm. But that was the old him.
He slowly looked back up to the silver-haired girl, with a sigh, he placed his hand on his chest. “ Sara Kohana. My name”. He had gone too far to turn back to a potential friend now. “ Sorry to scare you. I am not good with words. To strangers, even more shy. I want to come here to..” this was way beyond his usual limit already. He was starting to get embarrassed as his mind raced for the right words. Ultimately making him look angrier.
After a few seconds passed, he came to a conclusion that was so impactful that no words could ever express it better. In fact, he said nothing at all.
Thumbs up were a universally known non-verbal language. It conveys what he wanted the gutsy silver haired lady to know, as well as save himself from saying anything more than this. “All the best. To. You.” he said with a straight face, this thumbs still confidently sticking out of his fists. At least he wasn't asking for a fight or looking down on the floor anymore.

As everyone got set to swim out towards the ship and do their first lap, Kim got into a small boat and headed out onto the water. Once he got close to the ship, he made sure to stay a short distance away from it. After all, he didn't want to be in the way of the swimmers. Speaking of which, a lone figure could be seen swiftly approaching the ship. Kim let his eyes flicker over them. It was a girl by the name of Santario who was first.
Good for her. He wondered just how long she would be able to keep that lead. A short distance behind her were 3 people vying for second place. Louca, Howard and Lysander seemed to be having a battle to pull ahead of eachother. But none of the 3 were able to do so. As of right now at least. Directly behind them were another trio of swimmers. Aly, Elena and Quentin. They were also trying to overtake those up ahead.
Akira could be seen a few feet behind, doing his best to swim as well as he could. But on his tail was a trio that was trying hard to catch up. Raphael, Aurelia and Vivienne tried to break away from eachother but they were all stubborn and didn't seem to want to let anyone pass them. Only a foot behind the aforementioned trio was another trio composed of Manuela, Rodion and Serena B, who were determined to pass them all.
Behind the last trio mentioned was the first ever group of 6 vying for first position amongst themselves. Bloom, Charles, Serena T, Angelique, Aryaan and Reena were the members of this particular group. And directly behind them was a duo of Della and Nessie, trying to catch up to the group of 6 and potentially pass them. A few feet behind the duo was another duo, of Aurora and Evelynn, who slowly crept closer up.
The last duo mentioned was also being closely followed by a group of 5, Stephen, Chiaki, Katherine/Kit, Verona and Oliver, and a trio, Sara, Edward and Marina. A few feet behind them came Astrid, aiming to overtake them. And bringing up the rear was a group of 4, Romeo, Ayako, Noah and Hadrian. They were the last swimmers to make it through Level 1 before the time limit. Yes there was a tiny time limit.
But only because they didn't have all the time in the world. To get through all 3 Rounds (with 3 levels in each round), Kim had to put some kind of time limit for each level. That way, they wouldn't be there forever and he was sure everyone had other summer plans that didn't involve being stuck here for a long time. Thus, how the time limit had come into existence. Only 6 more people had to finish the lap but time was quickly running out.
Florian and Rita were neck and neck and although they seemed as if they would make it, they ended up running out of steam directly before being able to finish the first lap. Directly behind them were Haley and Michael, who seemed to be competing as to who would get ahead. Neither had managed to pull ahead of the other but there was something they shared together. Both had failed to complete the first lap of the triathalon.
Haven came in 5th place and bringing up the rear was Greta, who seemed extremely tired as she was in last place. For now, that is. Maybe she would get a second wind.
Kim let his eyes flicker over the 6 participants who hadn't been able to finish the first lap. A faint smile came to his lips as he tried to encourage them. "You guys were really close to finishing! But don't feel too bad, I'm sure you can make it the next time. And if you fail again, I'll help you out a little. ooc: you will get +5 to your rolls for that level to help you make it out. But this help will only be available during Round 1, to let all participants have some fun during the early stages."
He paused and then looked down at the 6 who had failed the level. "You can hang onto the side of the boat if you want for a few seconds before you try to do the lap again. I know you guys can do it!" Kim encouraged them again. Once those who had failed the level had restarted it again, the dark haired boy diverted his attention to those who had successfully managed to complete Level 1 and were now on the harder Level 2.

Triathalon Event
~ Level 2 ~
Those who pass Level 1 will proceed directly into Level 2. Level 2 is just as easy as Level 1, except that it will take strength this time to swim the second lap around the ship.
────────────────────────────────────────
Only 6 people had failed Level 1.
Not bad at all. It was quite a feat, considering how many people had decided to come.
Kim was pleased to see how physically able most of the group was who had come to summer camp. They were bound to do well in this game and hopefully have some fun in the process. He smiled down at them from his position on board the small boat he'd taken out onto the water to get closer to the participants. "Alright, guys! Let's keep this momentum going! You all made it to Level 2. Level 2 is the same as Level 1."
"But it's going to be a little more difficult because you've already swum one lap. This time it'll take more than stamina to keep going, it'll take strength. So, do your best!" Kim told them and watched as they set off again for their second lap around the ship. He wondered who would emerge from Level 2 and go on to Level 3. Would they succeed again or would there be more who failed to complete the next level?
It definitely was going to be a bit harder this time.
If you fail Level 1, post redoing Level 1 IC (your first lap around the ship). But remember to not say whether you complete it or not, as that remains to be seen.
At the top of your post please state what level you are on, to help the mod out later.

Reminder:
- All players need to post before the deadline.
- Deadline is 5 days after the mod post, which is August 11th.
I will post sometime between the 5th-6th day, August 11th-12th.

The signal to start the race, giving Greta ans Astrid final wishes of good luck before the teen raced off towsrd the water.
Pacing himself, not wanting to drain all of his energy at the start. Realizing, he would be behind a few others made him determined to get ahead but reminded himself to stay at a pace. If he goes to fast then he could burn out and not have enough energy left to continue or get ahead again.
The blonde neared the water, taking wide strides, cutting through the water at first as he jumped through the blue. His height meant he would be able to jump through the liquid for long than the others, saving up his energy that he would need for swimming.
Placing his hands at his head, forming an point, the teen stretched out of the water. Bending and aiming for the rippling blue, diving down, the teen kept his eyes ahead of himself. Kicking, small ones but still enough to gain speed as he kept his hands in a point above his head.
Going through the water, counting the steps it took to go around the ship that time. Lifting his head up every other second for a breath, the water droplets aginest his face as his blonde hair slicked back. Slamming his feet into the water below, focused on what would lay ahead. Not behind.
The muffled words of the kid who was running it, apparently a few didn't finish level one yet, the blonde wanted to look back. Wanted to check if it was Haley or Aly or Greta... if it was Ronnie... the thought of the lad made him slow his speed, smiling allowing water droplets to enter his mouth. The thought... distraction... he couldn't let them in, not if if wanted to win that day.
Pausing, treading water, the teen felt his breathing. Deep, long breaths. Pushing his hair back, eyes taking in the images. Looking for faces in the group, behind him, the teen felt his heart nearly break at the sight of Haley and Greta behind him... still at level one... the blonde treaded water, his eyes fell soft and for a moment he wanted to turn back. To redo level one with them.
The teen reminded himself it was only the first level, they still had a chance... they still had a chance... the thought didn't muffle their images, still swimming in the first level... the first lap... the teen felt his mind tremble, his heart break a little at their sight... would it matter if he turned back? Redid the lap with them?
The teen forced himself to look away, finding Astrid and Aly, smiling a little at the sight of the pair. At least they completed the lap, if the durmstrang girl and his cousin won then the blonde could live with that... if those two keep their lead then perhaps he could keep the pace of Greta and Haley... would he even be allow to? Allow to redo a lap to keep Haley and Greta company?
Unsure, the teen caught the voice of the kid running it, level 2, another lap and one that relied on strength? The teen thoughts it sounded easy, he figured he could do the lap quickly then go back... go back to do it again with Greta and Haley. So, neither would be alone. His heart against his chest. The ringing in his ears.
The teen pushed back his hair, doved down, and formed his arms into a point once more. Kicking aginest the blue itself, trying to compete the lap as fast as possible to redo it again with Greta and Haley. Not wanting them to go at it alone, maybe the others will take longer letting Astrid or Aly or Ronnie even.... one of the three, at least to allow them to move one.
