Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Evasive Maneuvers (1)
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Reducio
In the last quidditch match of his third year at Hogwarts, Avery experienced what it was like to be on the receiving end of a successful Parkin's Pincer. As all three opposing chasers cornered and sandwiched him in the air, it was a difficult blatching attempt to escape. There was hardly anywhere for him to maneuver, and the opposing side was able to unseat him from his broom, sending him to the ground during the very first round of the match.

He awoke in the Hospital Wing within several other teammates, ashamed and frustrated with himself that he wasn't more useful during their last match of the year. He was a saver on the team -- what saver should require saving, himself?? No, it was his duty to stay alive, avoiding all attacks, so he could help out the rest of the team whenever they were in danger of falling. He knew that saving others was his strength. In order to be able to perform, he would have to learn how to stay alive better.

As soon as he had been discharged from the Hospital Wing, he took to the pitch to practice his evasive maneuvers. He would release rogue practice bludgers while he occupied himself with other tasks, whether they be physical (like quaffle scoring practice), or mental (reading a book or writing his homework). Eventually, he developed a certain reflex for detecting the danger of approaching objects. He noticed a tingling sensation in his body whenever a rogue bludger would come too close -- a magical sensation that would pump his body full of adrenaline to give him the kick he needed to move nimbly out of the way. In this way, he had also trained his mind to be conscious of his surroundings and expand his use of his peripheral vision, so that he could more quickly notice incoming attacks.

In addition to developing his sense of awareness, he also had to develop faster reflexes and nimbleness. He would set up cones and develop exercises to improves his footwork on the ground, and in the air on his broom. Flying tumbles and cutting exercises became a regular part of his quidditch training routine. Continuous physical training and flying practice made him more nimble on the ground and in the air, in addition to his awareness training. By the start of his fourth year, he was eager to see how his hard work would pay off.

Name of Ability that You Are Applying for: Non-Human Enthusiast (Year 1)
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Reducio
Mamori's interest in non-human magical beings did not start with a big revelation but with one small moment of wondering. When he was five years old and walking hand in hand with his father through a magical creature reserve, a flash of silver caught his eye, and he turned to see a unicorn foal peeking out from behind its mother. The foal's curious gaze met Mamori's, and in that instant, he felt a connection he couldn't explain.

"Dad," Mamori whispered, tugging his father's sleeve, "why does the baby unicorn look so sad?"

Kneeling down, he explained how unicorn foals often seem to be melancholic because of the shape of their eyes. It was a small moment for Mamori, one that would spark within him soon enough the desire to understand these creatures for more than just their appearance.

As Mamori grew, so did his curiosity. His father's work as a Magizoologist meant frequent visits to Ministry-approved facilities where injured magical creatures were rehabilitated. One summer, at the age of eight, Mamori's father was trying to heal a wounded Niffler from some accident local magical creature sanctuary. The little beast darted away whenever anyone tried to come near it. Mamori had permission to watch under very strict control orders and spent his hours reading books in a low voice within earshot. Gradually, over several weeks, the Niffler began to relax, eventually allowing Mamori to sit nearby without fleeing. It was a small victory, but it taught Mamori the value of patience and empathy when dealing with magical beings.

The bedtime stories of Mamori's mother added one more layer to his interest. The stories were thrilling: she told of her encounters with different magical beings during her work as a Hit Wizard. At the same time, they raised some questions in Mamori's mind. He would ask about why a goblin in her stories did what it did, or how a part-Veela mentioned in passing by her mother would go about its daily life. More often than not, his mother had no answers, much to Mamori's increasing thirst for knowledge.

At ten, Mamori stumbled upon a book about werewolves in his father's study. The complicated condition of theirs intrigued him. He badgered his parents with questions for weeks, attempting to discern how one could be both man and wolf. It also engaged larger talks about the difficulties different magical creatures have in wizarding society. Mamori was shocked to hear about the prejudice many were facing and it aroused in him a feeling of injustice.

As his Hogwarts letter approached, Mamori's interest had evolved into a deep-seated passion. He started to keep small notes on the behavior of magical creatures whenever he visited any sanctuary or reserve with his father. He sketched many of the creatures he saw for hours on end and noted down their habits and quirks. His room slowly but surely gathered a collection of books on magical beings: from academic to folkloric, it had them all.

Wren has always been a curious child, she always liked to ask questions and learn things. As soon as she learned she was a witch she wanted to know everything about the wizarding world and the magic. Her parents were both Hogwarts students like she was now. They were very knowledgeable and smart about the wizarding world and the magic side of it. Wren learned everything from them as long as they were able to help. She remembers she used to “steal” her parents books. Her favorites were the books about charms. She would read them, learn everything about them, their reason for existing at the first place, their history, their incantation and wand movements and even what could happen if they were used incorrectly. At first, she would pick a random stick or something similar to a wand before she was able to get her own wand and practice with it. But of course it wasn’t as effective as using her own wand. She also had to learn the hard way that she shouldn’t steal and use her parent’s wands as that caused her both little chaoses at home and a detention to stay stuck in her room..

After she got her own wand at Ollivanders, she immediately tried to use some basic spells she learned on her own with just a stick. She had started with lumos and nox. Getting them correctly during her first real try. Ollivander was surprised. But to Wren, they were very easy anyways, as she already knew what to do.

But of course that didn’t end with just those two spells, she had tried to learn all the charms she was interested in and was able to do with some practice and hardwork as she was quite impatient to learn those charms a bit too late to her liking.

But she didn’t have to learn all those spells all alone. Before starting Hogwarts her parents helped a lot, especially with spells related to charms class. When that class officially started for her, she felt like it was too easy that it was almost boring. She already knew and practiced those things. That caused her to want to learn the next years charms spells. Even though she didn’t have their parent’s help this time if needed, she was confident and determined enough to practice and work hard at learning those spells on her own or with some help from other people with their knowledge and skills. Wren could be impatient at times but that didn’t mean she would ever give up on her desire to learn even more.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Calming Presence
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Mahlioz had always been a rather calm person. When she was frustrated, hurt or sad, she never lashed out. It was more of a quiet thing on the inside. They became numb, hid away from the world. On the other end of the spectrum, when she was excited or glad, she wasn't one of those kids who ran around hyperactively, or shouted in happiness. She just kept her small smile on her face, appreciative while staying calm.

Their wand core was proof of this - Horned Serpent Horn wands only chose wizards with a cool head on their shoulders. Even when stressed, Mahlioz always tried to keep calm and assess the situation using logic instead of rushing into it without thinking. In December 2023, they were told that they would be moving houses, which was absolutely devastating news. But instead of reacting like her sibling, Reltyl, did (shouting, being perpetually angry, running away), she was just frozen in place, trying to work through the chaos in her mind calmly.

Mahlioz had spent two years at Hogwarts now. At first, they hadn't been much to behold. Shy, reclusive, staying on their own. From time to time, she would meet someone new, enjoy some time together, but then it was always the same - she'd go back to being on her own, reading or studying or practicing. And that was nice, that was how she liked it. For a while.

But over their first and second year, they began to learn that being an introvert didn't necessarily mean you hated being around people. It didn't make her any less herself if she had friends, and if she liked hanging out sometimes. Sure, it could get exhausting, and sure, she preferred being alone most of the time. But that didn't mean what they'd thought it meant for a long time. People could actually be... pretty cool. So they began to put themselves out there a little more.

As she did this, she began to notice that her own calmness, the quiet she brought with her everywhere, was starting to have an effect on others. Mahlioz's eagerness to learn and how good they were with most academic subjects helped with this too; they put people at ease. Friends - friends she didn't think she would ever have, before Hogwarts - felt calmer around her, like things might be okay, and they were often more concentrated. It wasn't something she'd been expecting in the least, but it seemed she really had a calming presence.

Alyss grew up with neither of her parents being from Gryffindor, so no one expected her to be overly brave. As she grew, it soon became clear that Alyss had many traits drastically different than her parents.

She was impulsive, reckless, and stubborn beyond belief. But above all of this: she had courage. Never pausing to jump from a tree that might’ve been a little taller than she thought, never caring about the danger she might be in as she guided a turtle across the road. She was compassionate with no fear whatsoever.

The most notable experience of her courage was during one of the many times when the weather was less than pleasant, the rain and wind strong. It was not uncommon for there to be large storms with strong winds and plenty of rain, especially between October and January, which it was.

During an early November evening, throughout the day the sky had darkened, going from its usual regular cloudy to the sky looking almost as if night way falling upon the island. However, this time was different. Her grandparents dropped her off at her home, under the impression that Alyss’ mother would be home within the next few minutes.

Unfortunately for all involved, her mom had been held up at work, given a last minute piece of work with a deadline of tomorrow. She had decided to take the overtime and the pay that came with it, trusting her parents would take care of her daughter.

And of course, after dropping their granddaughter off, grandma and grandpa had no way of knowing this, and Alyss was left at her house alone. This wasn’t the first time something like this had happened, and given that Alyss was a big girl at 10 years old, she neglected to call her neighbors or grandparents when her moms message came in alerting her of the new situation.

It was then that the darkening clouds above all their heads finally let loose. There was not only rain, but the booming on thunder and flashes of lightning, as well as heavy winds that were bad enough that the trees outside the window seemed to be keeling over in pain.

Alyss felt fine at first, having been through similar storms, except.. usually her parents were there, insisting that it was okay, and that they should all have ice cream for dessert before they went to bed. This time, she was on her own. No one to hug her close, and above all, no one to smile and give her ice cream.

The rattling of the windows started to frighten the girl, and she shivered, suddenly feeing cold. What if the wind finally succeeded in knocking down that walls that were currently the only things between her and the storm that seemed to continue to worsen outside the window.

Walking to the couch and grabbing a blanket, Alyss wrapped it around her shoulders to keep herself warm, and comfort her. Gazing out the windows, Alyss watched, motionless, as the wind whipped around everything that stood in its way. Although not much was flying out of the air, quite a few items were sliding.

Alyss felt her eyes start to water as she looked outside, before shaking away the tears. She was old enough to deal with this on her own. She wasn’t going to be scared of a simple storm, was she? No, she was stronger than that. It was at that moment that a strike of lightning that seemed to happen right in her own backyard, Alyss let out a high pitched scream and ducked, as if that would save her. Sighing at her silliness, she stood back up a little shakily, leaning on the table for support and looking outside once again.

It was then that Alyss noticed a wiggling shape, slowly being carried by the wind closer and closer to the edge of her yard. Squinting, Alyss nearly let out a cry when she realized just what the wind was carrying. It was a rabbit, likely a younger one if it wasn’t in the burrow during such a fierce storm. That or the burrow had flooded.

Without even a second thought, Alyss threw off the fuzzy blanket that had been hanging from her shoulders and started on the process of undoing the locks holding the door closed, before dramatically flinging it open. Fortunately for Alyss, the wind and rain seemed to have slightly died down briefly.

She dashed outside, offering the soaked rabbit her warm hands, and scooping it up quickly when it didn’t immediately bite her. Alyss rushed back indoors, flinching at the boom of thunder that sounded so much closer when she was outside, and struggling to keep her balance as the wind picked back up again.

Biting her tongue to the point of drawing blood to keep herself from screaming, Alyss staggered towards the door, praying to whatever gods there were that she wouldn’t be struck be lightning nor blown away by the wind. After what felt like forever, she finally made it back indoors, and slammed the door shut, redoing all the locks and trying to ignore all the water that had made its way into the house.

Placing the rabbit in the fuzzy blanket that Alyss had been using previously, she rubbed the rabbit as dry as possible, shivering all the while. Upon finding herself a towel and change of clothes, Alyss finally realized what she had done: in the midst of her panic, she had still faced her fears of lightning and winds and rescued the rabbit right in front of her.

That was cool, right? Except for the fact that their floors were now covered in a few towels because of this, and she was shivering to the point of teeth chattering together. Maybe it wasn’t so cool after all.

Once her mom got home and saw her daughter in this state, hovering over a rabbit wrapped in a now damp blanket, she rightfully wanted to freak out a scream. The story her daughter gave outlined how awesome and brave she’d been, so Alyss was sent to bed with a slight eyeroll and a reluctant “Good job. Now it’s time for bed.”

From then on, her parents knew that as stubborn was their daughter was, she was also brave, courageous, even.. Fearless.

It was a gloomy day out, clouds covered the sky and rain was falling over Hogwarts castle. This gave Kyra the perfect excuse to finally practice their wand movements, casting, and even defensive movements to help her get on either the Duelling or Broom Racing teams. She was more than eager to learn, even when things were not going her way, Kyra would find the motivation within to prosper no matter what it was. This was something that seemed to pass down generations within their family. Everyone was good at something, whether it was Quidditch, Duelling, or even Broom Racing.

Since it was such a depressing day and Kyra literally had no friends to hang out with, she decided it would be the perfect time to practice their wand movement for any duels in the future. With a determined mindset, Kyra would do whatever she could to make sure she was able to outperform those in her same year, and maybe some of the older students as well. Even with little faith from what happened to their parents, Kyra was able to muster up the motivation to prepare for what may come in the near future.

The dungeons were creepy, cold, and wet. Kyra was cold, so she quickly threw the hood over their head and continued walking until the first year finally made it out of the dungeon. She was happy, but now Kyra had to walk quickly just because she didn’t want anyone to bother her. There was only one thing on the young girl’s mind and that was to make sure she could practice dueling just in case she would make the team. The waitlist was long, but there was hope! She had faith that something would eventually open up just so she could show the others how well she can handle a wand in a serious situation.

Just as Kyra was able to make it to the enormous doors to the duelling club, she stopped at the entrance and let out a long sigh. She was scared, uncertain, and feeling a bit of doubt now. Kyra just shook her head at the thoughts that were running through her very mind, so she quickly pushed the door open and entered the rather vast room. There was absolutely nobody there, which really had her surprised because Kyra thought that dueling would be super popular with how many bad rumors spread about others. Lucky enough, though, Kyra didn’t hear anything about themself, but maybe that was because she did not socialize much.

The piste was where the young teenager would position themselves if they were in the duel with another student, but the room was lined with training dummies, so Kyra thought it would be the best idea to practice on those for the time being. There was no use for her to cast spells at nothing and the dummies were there for that reason alone. She faced adversaries their entire life and this was the beginning of something new, something to give the young teenager motivation to allow her to throw the past away and look forward to what the future holds.

Taking in a long breath before exhaling and stepping towards the dummy, Kyra was starting to feel the nerves kick in, even if she was the only one around. She pulled the wand free from the inside of their robes and began to stare down the training dummy, as if it were some person who stole something valuable. ”Flipendo!” The young girl spoke loud and clear, along with the correct wand movement in addition. In a split second the wand conjured up the spell and fired directly at the dummy, knocking it back and forth from the impact alone. Instantly a smile formed and Kyra could feel a sense of power within, something that would give her a sense of accomplishment.

Kyra Banuelos would continue this not only for the rest of the day, but she felt that if getting better was the end goal, then she would need to visit the duelling club daily to make sure she honed their skills with a wand. But after some hard work and concentration, Kyra thought it would be best to get some rest for tomorrow’s studies. She tucked the wand back up the sleeve of their robe and walked off to the exit of the room to eventually make it back to their dorm to get some rest.

It was no secret that the matriarch of the Cho family was a much-loved Charms professor at a local specialized school - one who was renowned not only for her mastery of spell-casting but also for her imaginative and, if we might say, charming teaching methods. In the Cho household, the mother's illustrious career loomed large, casting a long shadow over Maya’s own ambitions. It was certainly enough to make her even more aware of the almost silent but oh-so-heavy burden of expectations.

Her introduction to the intricate world of magical theory began at a young age, usually by watching in silence as her mother readied herself for another class. Although their family life was busy and her mother was often preoccupied with her demanding career, she made a special effort to carve out time for her daughter. Her mother’s dedication to teaching extended beyond the classroom, providing Maya with a foundational understanding that sparked her enduring curiosity.

From the very first day that she received her first owl, Maya had been living in increased anticipation of the day she would finally arrive at Hogwarts. Even as a young witch, she had demonstrated a tendency towards overachievement. Having received her mother’s magical training since early childhood, this natural-born talent of hers had only accelerated her progress and set high expectations for her future. Even so, the notion of being at school with so many gifted young witches and wizards had her no less thrilled.

Maya spent many nights sleepless and wide awake before she left to begin her new life at Hogwarts. The reason for her midnight oil burning? A recently acquired, compulsory copy of the Book of Spells, Grade 1, by the esteemed Miranda Goshawk. Maya would lie in bed, trying more or less to give the impression of a bookworm in hibernation as she began to memorize many of the chapters. The environment of the dormitory in the Ravenclaw Tower was not such as to change the mission Maya had given herself, and more often than not she works ahead of her curriculum set out by her Professor. Her textbook remains ready, tucked underneath her soft pillow, waiting for her nightly study sessions.

Her interest deepened, and with it, her thirst for knowledge. Like so many before her who have been caught up in an exhilarating adventure of a good book, she soon found herself asking her mother to purchase her the second volume of the Book of Spells, an entire year ahead. Maya was eager to press on to more sophisticated and, she hoped, more rewarding voyages into the magical world, always striving to surpass her own expectations.

Sere's duel in the Spring Games proved that her efforts to consistently do things that increase her stamina paid off. The Gryffindor duellist who made her debut on Winter Games and only managed to survive half of the games, got better and managed to add two rounds to survive the Spring Games after all of her stamina-boosting daily exercise efforts.

Her efforts had somehow paid off, but of course -no matter how much she looked positively at it- it was still not her best. She had to survive until the end of the duel and planned to really make it really happen in the upcoming Fall Games. Therefore, the girl was oftenly seen in the library; busy looking for another way that could increase her stamina besides exercising.

There must be another way! Sere was determined. After an hour of going around the shelves and opening dozens of books, the girl finally found it. "Gotcha!" But when reading more details about the way to realize her goal, the girl frowned, "Seriously? Adjusting my diet and increasing my fiber intake? That fiber... means... vegetables?"

Sere didn't like eating vegetables, especially green vegetables. Salad was something she would absolutely never touched. But that day she made up her mind to regulate her diet so that it was more balanced and healthy. Everything was for the sake of realizing her goal to survive until the end in the duel. Her pride was at stake every time she was on that piste.

Sere already had a habit of eating according to the meal times set by Hogwarts, she was already eating according to the right meal time. Her job was only to balance the nutrition in her food. The British-Korean girl replaced the peanut butter and jelly breakfast with fresh fruit and milk. That was not a big deal. At noon, the problem started. Sere stared doubtfully at the amount of vegetable salad that she had placed on her plate, next to her favorite roasted chicken. Do I really have to eat this grassy thing? Sere tried to feed herself a spoonful of salad, but that was all this girl could hold out for. Sere left the salad and chose to finish her roasted chicken. Her dinner was filled with potatoes and Italian meatballs: she had not been able to eat salad twice in the same day.

Sere gradually got used to her menu. If on the first day she could only eat a bite of vegetables, in the following week she was able to finish five bites. In her first month, she was able to finish half a portion of salad -of course with a great amount of effort-. During the holidays and Summer Camp, Sere maintained her habit and sometimes could even finish a whole portion of salad.

Entering her second year, the taste of vegetables was no longer something she disliked. It didn't mean that she liked it, it was just that... She had started to get used to the taste of grass in her mouth. Almost five months had passed and now Sere could eat vegetables for lunch and dinner. Usually she replaced the vegetables at dinner with a menu that was not the ordinary vegetable salad; such as caprese or asparagus.

Although not much, Sere could feel some of the effects of healthy eating: her digestion was better and her energy capacity increased during her daily exercise. "Alright, I hope this is also paid off in the next match." Sere whispered as she fed carrots and green beans into her mouth on one afternoon in mid-September.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Restricted Transfiguration Section
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Kit has been researching the subject of transfiguration ever since he discovered what it was. This, of course, had heavily to do with the fact that he was born a metamorphmagus. Even his wand was 'brittle; very resistant, which requires endurance and determination' and thus 'very efficient for transfiguration spells'. Upon being hired at Hogwarts as a caretaker, however, he became more intent than ever on looking more into the subject because of his concern regarding the school’s infestation of hags at the time. He guessed they were hiding disguised as students and thus sought to disguise himself as a student as well, blending in among them as an imposter to discover and expose other imposters as it takes one to know one. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to discover anyone himself, but he did learn a lot and since leaving Hogwarts has been intent on finding out even more. Though he’s since heard that the hags’ influence on and involvement at the school has died down, Kit seeks to continue to keep an eye out for potential dangers to muggles and the wizarding world at large, especially because he has an ability to notice things others don’t and is more aware than most of the fact that one shouldn’t be deceived by appearances given that he’s been aware of how deceptive appearances can be since his first interactions with others.

Thus, as a perfectly innocent-seeming artist, Kit can travel wherever he wants for ‘work’, researching and looking into strange occurrences that crop up even outside of Hogwarts. He may not be an auror, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to help society in his own way. One reason he didn’t want to be an auror is that by becoming one, it already labels someone as an individual for unsavory, shady, and malicious people to avoid. By being a neutral, laidback, carefree-seeming artist, however, Kit can easily befriend and build trust with even those he may suspect to be up to no good. Kit has always been interested and fascinated with the concept that though there is good and bad, light and dark, right and wrong dualities, there is also always an in-between for every duality – a third option. The balance between both. He tries to straddle that balance in every way he can and one way is by enlightening himself not only with all transfiguration magic that is considered helpful, good, and moral, but also by educating himself with transfiguration magic that is considered harmful, bad, and immoral.

Kit believes that in order to catch criminals, you have to be able to think like one and even sometimes blend in with them. While he is aware that metamorphmagi are hired as aurors specifically for this reason, he doesn’t necessarily believe that the law or the government that hires aurors is always necessary in the right or correct and thus does not want to be beholden to them. For that reason, despite the difference in pay and prestige, he would much rather be an artist than an undercover auror. Also, it makes it a lot less dangerous and more plausible for him to try to associate himself with people he may suspect to be criminals because there’s no way for them to trace him back to law enforcement or government entities. Being a freelance artist has its perks.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: The Muggle Condition
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Reducio
Is it possible to be two people? To somehow split yourself evenly down the middle without sacrificing all the fundamental bits of your personhood in the process? She’d lived a largely muggle life for eleven years before she’d gone away to school and spent only a measly ten months with her head underwater in the magical one. It should have been an easy switch back, like putting on a familiar, worn-in pair of slippers, and yet she found herself struggling. How funny it was, that she could spend an entire year feeling wrong-footed and out-of-place, only to be confronted with its inverse once she was finally home again.

She wouldn’t consider herself magical, despite being a witch. She was something physical, kinetic energy given human form, and more often than not she found herself reaching for her bat – or even just her own two hands – far more than she did her wand. If a wand could be said to be the single most important tool of a wix, then perhaps she might as well have been a muggle. Or well, a squib, she guessed. Perhaps her dad had been right, all those years ago when he’d argued that they should homeschool her rather than putting her into muggle school. Was it possible that her life in the muggle world had dimmed her magical potential somehow? She wasn’t sure. It was hard to reconcile the girl who turned on her cell phone the second she was back home for the holidays with the girl who regularly revised herbology by candlelight.

She’d known she was a witch growing up, was the thing. It had never been kept a secret from her. From the time she was capable of understanding it she’d known: her dad was magic, and she was, too. Supposedly. So, she went into everything she did with that knowledge: every birthday party, every football game, every movie night, every wasted afternoon scrolling through Tik Tok. I’m a witch, I’m a witch, I’m a witch.

Joining the magical world should have felt like finally unlocking a part of herself. Instead, it felt like she’d left a chunk of herself behind in the muggle one. Everything was different here, even things she’d previously thought were quite simple, like cooking and cleaning. She was expected to use Lumos instead of a bedside lamp, the Umbrella Spell instead of an actual umbrella, and the most egregious of all to her, using Aberto instead of just opening the door with your hands, like God intended.

Are we nature or nurture? She wasn't sure. Either way, the odds had always been stacked against her; she'd gotten Muggle from both, was practically swimming in it. Whether it would be a boon or her downfall, well, it was too early to tell. For now though, she'd follow her instincts, and keep her wand sheathed.
