Not the best way to call it as that implies people (overall) involved in this thread lead to actual mental problems for the community as a whole. It was a heated discussion yes, and there is a high likelihood that people felt hurt or unheard regardless of side. That said...With all kindness and respect, everyone (regardless of their stance), please take a break from this thread if it had reached that point. It is genuinely worrying if that is the outcome from a roleplay fictional site, take care of your mental health. Alas, please, let's not call the thread (that both pro and anti AI have posted in) something that "destroyed h.io mentally".Nick Jameson wrote: 26 Jul 2026, 15:40I agree this thread has destroyed h.io mentallyLily Isobel McCoire wrote: 26 Jul 2026, 15:05I spoke out using some harsh words (If you wanna look back and find my post go right ahead) some posts were directed at me and some people had dmed me thinking i was on the ban AI side and i am not, and i stated that. I was blocked due to that and when Clark and I asked to for thread to close we had some harsh feedback claiming we were "silencing the voices." Look i really lot some respect for this community as all this was going down. And as Lear said you all lost a great member due to this (Clark).Charlotte Winfield wrote: 26 Jul 2026, 07:03 With respect, I would appreciate seeing examples of users that support AI being actively targeted by those that have voiced their opposition.
I also would like to point out that Zach’s autonomy is a valuable thing to prioritize, but that, in the end, the edits are catering towards a greater community that has a right to participate in active discussion that impacts the site as a whole. I’d just like some clarity.
Honestly I think we have all spoken out on what we think is right and wrong and i think it's time to retire the thread. Not to close it but just to let it die.

Reminder to all, please remain on topic and respectful when posting
Try not to write when angry to avoid personal attacks and subtle jabs.
Despite the good intentions and concerns, closing this thread will likely not stop the discussion. It will likely continue in owls, DMs, OOC threads and discord. Tensions would escalate faster this way and it may drag people who don’t want to be part of this discussion into it.
A dedicated thread means people can opt in or out easily. Please disengage with this thread if it has been harmful for your well-being or mental health. I know I have before and I will again.
Looking forward to the poll, thank you so much for your efforts Zach

I left because the community is so much more harmful now than it was when I joined. I was prevented from even joining staff for reasons I will not say, but they hurt so much, it really told me how little people thought of me. When I would search my name, back in 2021 and 2022, it was not really to compliment me. It was to talk about me and and there was a comment there that hurt me so much because I looked up to that person. However, I would still choose the community from years ago than the community now. It is nothing but arguing and hurt. Nothing but people disagreeing and trying to be louder than the other voices.
When I asked to shut down the thread it was **not** to silence the voices, but to stop it from getting so much worse mentally on someone. The way that the whole discussion has been going has been mentally taxing on me. I felt unwelcome. Unloved. Undesired. I felt like a reject. I felt like I didn't belong.
But let's be real, the only time I ever felt like I belonged on hio was when I finally found the group of people I actually enjoyed talking to, and it wasn't a community. I hated talking to the people within the community. They were not nice. They were not kind. They said what was on their mind even if it would hurt you. But hey, there are people that put on facades then talk about you behind your back.
They may see the community differently, but that's probably because they're in the loud part of the community, the community that ostracizes people and talks bad about them in dms or behind "staff walls". To make a community better, we need to stop arguing.
I'm no longer part of the community, but I have seen the parts with my name on it. [to the community] Please stop being mean to people. Please stop criticizing everything just because you're so unhappy with something. It feels like we were talking about politics in the server and on the site, when that's against our rules, and we weren't really. We were talking about AI usage as the wallpaper.
You [the people in the thread] disagree? Cool. But regurgitating the same points over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over is not cool. It's annoying. We are already aware of the points you make. Having to repeat it ten times does not help, and honestly, when I saw it happening, I knew it was gonna happen and I knew it was going to spiral out of control.
I joined hio leaving World of Potter and its sites because they banned me. I loved the backgrounds. I loved the theming. I hated world of potter's texture backgrounds. It was so dull in comparison to the awesomeness hio was. Hio was advanced in comparison, and world of potter? It felt like you were getting introduced to writing- baby levels. I'm not criticizing world of potter and its sites because they banned me, but because hio's very backgrounds were what captured me and made me want to join. HexRPG. It's boring. It looks so cluttered to me. Other hp sites, there are so many buttons and its so hard to find anything.
Hio was so much easier, yet felt like it was for college students and advanced people because of how good it was.
I am not a writer. On every site that I have ever created, I have actively opposed strict word counts. I hated them on hio, so if we were to consider the things I did not like about hio starting off and how hard it was to actually stick around and write 200+ words in on a site that feels like they minimodded you so freaking much at times, and pair that with a lack of cool looking backgrounds? I'm sorry, I would've left the community so long ago. I was already being fussed at by staff my first year of being onsite. I was caught multiaccounting and I confessed to it.
I am an honest person, I try not to lie because I hate lying to people. That said, getting back to the point, when I didn't have things to hold onto, things that I loved, I wouldn't want to be here. When I saw what was said about me in 2024, I was so enraged, I saw red throughout the duration of 2025.
This community, you may claim to be nice people nowadays, but the community that minimodded so much and had some weird people in the awnings were much more nicer than this community is nowadays. This is me being blunt; what you guys are calling a community nowadays, is like being in a herd of likeminded haters that want nothing but THEIR way. Because it's their way, or they're going to pitch a fit and complain and throw a tantrum.
I'm sorry that it was blunt, I'm sorry if it offends people. But it's the truth, when you feel like you've been tossed into a trashcan and thrown into a waste puddle so much and so often away from the computer screen and on the computer screen in a fictional world, then maybe we can finally see eye to eye, so long as you aren't seeking vengeance.
So please, work on being a better community first.
Tldr; Be more welcoming. More accepting. This isn't a community. This is a thread that is unwelcoming to those who look and see how the "community" is.
I didn't only leave because of the ai thread, it is what threw me off the edge, the edge that I felt pushed to for many years of this on and off of the computer screen. My reasons for leaving are all specified in my deactivation post. It is a combination of the community and the staff and how I felt treated throughout the years. And I have been on hio for a quarter of my life. That's a lot!

I am sticking up for Remy on this and if you all hate me for it, good for you. Yes i was a part of the event he mentioned in 2024, i unintentionally started it and i gained a lot of friends from that experience, but it has lately come to light that it also caused more harm. That hurt me, ofc it did so many things about that fateful day hurt me, but what hurt me the most was the way this community dealt with it towards something they had really no business being in. Those involved know exactly what i'm talking about. You all treated the best member i have found n this site poorly and it sickens me. If it weren't the fact that i have a lot of friends here, and new friends my i add i would have left with Remy as well. And by the way the AI images look stunning and you all can hate me for it, i do not really care. But if you don't like Remy, you won't like me! He is an amazing person and its a shame you never saw that. I've said my peace and if you want to talk to me about it you know how to contact me.

I've seen frequent mentions of allegations stating they were told "not to silence people", which was not the case from the intended user and was a simple request to not silence voices who are speaking against AI usage onsite by shutting this thread down. I am only bringing this up as I have seen the conversation that is alleged to and would like to confirm the facts — the phrase was not directed to any user and I would appreciate if words are not morphed to fit a narrative to a situation that outright did not happen.
I am a firm advocator for all voices to be shared, regardless of what side you are on, communication is healthy and I will always advocate for community voices on site.
We are all entitled to our feelings, irregardless to what side you are on, but as I have monitored this thread, I've noticed a persistent pattern pointing those anti-AI as aggressive and attacking others, whilst in some instances this is the cause of tension and I agree that the methods of communication needs to be better — I do not agree with the portrayal made towards those on either side.
I kindly remind everyone to remain cordial in these heated discussions and avoid taking things personal which is a frequent pattern I've noticed.
Please also remain on topic, for what Zach has proposed which is AI BACKGROUNDS and in due time, feedback for the current update would be beneficial in a respective thread made in due course.

Not to be mean or anything Meiyu, but we were accused of silencing the people and i can bring up the screenshots for it as well. I have proof of what we claim or i wouldn't say it.
Also Zach I love the schools as well!! It's gorgeous

I don't think you're being mean Lily, but unfortunately, that was not what was said in the help channel in discord. It was, and I quote, "Please do not silence desperate voices in that thread by closing it.", which does not read directed towards anyone and is similar to the request made by you and someone else suggesting shutting this thread.Lily Isobel McCoire wrote: 28 Jul 2026, 00:05 Not to be mean or anything Meiyu, but we were accused of silencing the people and i can bring up the screenshots for it as well. If there is anything that happened outside of this, please do not hesitate to speak to me further about this, my messages are referencing what I have outright seen.

I'm with Lily and Remy I really try to be kind and welcoming but to find that the main person that made me feel welcomed was treated so poorly really does upset me and if you don't like Remy or Lily then add me to the list of people you don't like

I have not been a part of this discussion for, and im sorry to say this, but I feel like this was not a civil conversation to get to know opinions about a topic but a rather "I am right you are wrong", "And we should do this, there is no other, right option!" kind of conversation, which is just sad. I believe definitely as people who spend hours writing on this site, that we should be able to express our opinions in a civil manner without pointing fingers, or even hurting each other in the process, which clearly, has been done.
First of all, I want to thank Zach for all the time, money, effort, and what more he has put into this website, because I feel likes some people really underestimate that here, what Zach does for the site, and all of us. It is a blessing to have a developer, who puts all this time in this concept. As someone who has been a member of several communities, include Harry Potter related once, I have never found a site that is this developed, and where the developer puts in this much effort for this community, and still to this day, even tho Harry Potter isn't such a "trend" anymore.
It also saddens me to see how a community that seems so close, so caring and loving, which don't get me wrong I love extremely about Hio, can be so harsh towards each other when it comes to disagreements... knowing that finding a solution that everyone will 100% agree on, is im sorry to say, in my eyes just impossible. And its beautiful that Zach takes his time to engage with us, ask our opinion and input, because he could have just did the changes that needed to be done, and not have any discussion about it with us at all.
As for what I read here about bullying. Short and blunt, it is happening, I as a not too active member have seen attempts to, and have reported so, because, it's just sad. A thread like this also shouldn't affect your mental health so badly. As for Remy, I am saddened to see him go, I joined back when he was Noah, we both were first years (with my former character) and I enjoyed rping with him, and I myself never knew how he felt to this day. As I see messages of him shared here, I do feel saddened that he said all of that after leaving, while I feel like he could have had this conversation with the people involved, while he was still here or could have remained here. (my pov, no opinions asked/needed)
I feel like this is a place were we should all feel connected, cared for, a place to come back to when life gets hard, an escape from the real world, to find back our peace. I myself, havent been that active anymore, for this sole reason. I came here to find an escape, to make friends, have fun over threads and whatever dumb things my Sims have done this time in voice channels, or joining a voice channel for the diabolical time of 200 hours.
So this message is just a kind reminder to everyone, to remember why we are here, that opinions matter, but that's what they are and should stay, and that we can never do good for everyone. But that doesn't mean we should loose our kindness and respect towards each other. Zach, Lear, the staff and just everyone is a part of making this community as beautiful as it is, so all should be treated and respected accordingly, no matter the opinion. So from me, a big thank you for everyone so engaged, for everyone who wakes up every day and decided to dedicate their time to making this site as enjoyable as it is, to making it welcoming and warm! And I hope for everyone who has lost their spark here, to receive some love and kindness, and to find their spark back, to return to the light, for sure in the darkest of times. And to remember, that Hogwarts, is home, as much to me, as it is to you, as it is to the person who posted in this thread, or in the server in general, before or after you
Ps: big shout out to Zach for this amazing update, im obsessed! Can't wait to go explore!
Sincerely
Evangeline Fleetwood
