I shouldn't underestimate these Badgers.

Only two rounds in, and Sere already knew she was facing an opponent as formidable as before. This duel was going to be another long one. She had to boost up her performance, and she hoped her teammates would do the same.

Sere's choice fell on Mimblewimble this time. This time too, she failed to dodge the Cracker Jinx's blisters. Well, how could she evade that beautifully casted offensive spell? Sere tightened her grip on her wand. Focus, Sere! This is the worst time to be amazed by that.

Adjusting to their new situations, the two teams took very different approaches. Hufflepuff played defense, accepting their limited forces with Eugenia temporarily incapable of forming incantations and aiming to regain full strength as soon as possible. Eugenia stayed light on her toes -- or tried to, Sere had other ideas -- and Reyna freed her teammate's tongue with a counter spell. She seemed to struggle through it a bit, but not enough to fail, demonstrating an excellent control of the wilder edges of magic. Axyen ensured the badgers weren't entirely silent, laying an ominous layer of dark clouds over the lions. It crackled threateningly, but didn't strike. Yet.

Meanwhile, Gryffindor showed off a fine grasp of strategy and spontaneous coordination. First, Sere nearly swept Eugenia's feet out from under her with a fantastic Slippery Jinx, turning a dodge attempt into an unplanned scramble to stay upright. Ula and Siobhan followed in force, though with more limited success; Eugenia was just too quick, even with the significant challenge. The Hufflepuff avoided the chill of Siobhan's Glacius and the roar of Ula's flame, a starkly contrasting combination. Axyen wasn't so lucky, lit aflame by the second branch of Ula's spell, and would momentarily be acting as mascot for the Blazing Badgers.

This was the most predictable she ever felt. With one of her senses lost, she focused on the others, in the same way she learnt how to dodge each blow. Yet it was anticipated and Sere sure made it difficult to focus. She didn’t feel the usual overcharge of focus, however she evaded two spells, one that froze and one that scorched.

The irony of it.

The fire making spell, however, hit her teammate, meaning first blood had been she’d, when it came to the badgers. Soon, she felt her tongue return to normal and shot a thankful glance to the girl besides her. At least this didn’t last long, it felt as if all her had been let loose on her. Gods, she didn’t want to feel that again.

The need for vindication was eating her up. And yet, she had a lot more rounds left.

Siobhan was starting to feel the prickle of an irked emotion coming across her. The uselessness of her casting was starting to affect the way that she was casting her spells and having missed YET ANOTHER SPELL made her consider thoroughly handing in her membership to the duelling club.

But could she let herself walk away from something else that she adored so much? It was one thing to be so weirdly put off from brewing potions. It killed to be cut off from the Greenhouses… Could she really take the chance and remove herself from duelling?

No. She wouldn’t do this. It wasn’t the end of her journey. Siobhan took a deep breath, ignored the large span of clouds above her and the team and grounded herself for the next round.

A hit! Only one out of the two spells found its target, but it was a hit from Ulas' wand nonetheless.

As she watched the flames engulf the boy's body, her face split into a feral grin. Her eyes carried the firelight's glint for a moment and she remembered why she loved duelling so much. The fire thrilled her, especially if it was the opposing team whose robes were on fire.

Ula briefly glanced at the angry clouds above her, silently praying that if it were to hit someone, it better be Siobhan or Sere. Her outfit was way too good to be fried off.

Reflecting on her more-than-two-years of experience standing on this very familiar piste for countless duels, Sere decided to enchant the floor beneath the Badger with Lubricus. She correctly guessed that her target would be actively-dodging (there was nothing special about her guess, it was just how things were supposed to be). What made Sere bite her lip was that the girl seemed intact, not damaged by any other spell after that.

She exhaled, looked up at the storm cloud above her team and muttered, "My God... she's tough."

It burned! It burned a lot—Axyen didn't want to experience this sensation again, but he had failed to dodge. For a brief moment, he had uselessly swiped at the flames burning at him. Despite his successfully cast Metelojinx, he wasn't especially worried about that.

There was some good news, and that was while Axyen was busy being getting set ablaze, his teammate's case of Mimblewimble was alleviated. Focus...! Focus! Even through the pain, Axyen didn't forget the goal of a duel—it was to deal more pain back!!

Not in a malicious manner of course! Axyen tried to internally tried to justify himself to... Himself. Despite that... Winning seemed more and more like a pleasant thought—a destination he just needed to reach. Axyen gritted his teeth, and stomped his foot quietly twice to get back into the rhythm of the duel... Even if this was going to hurt a lot!!

This round, it was all offense. Both teams had a primary target -- Ula for Hufflepuff, Axyen for Gryffindor -- but weren't solely focused on any one person. Hufflepuff was actually trying to go for everyone, at least a little bit, blanketing the stage in the sights, sounds, and searing pain of crackers, but it proved more showy than effective. Reyna's crackers missed everyone and Axyen, who any trained eye could tell produced very powerful spells for a fourth year, caught only Siobhan and himself with the jinx's edges, though even the radius was plenty painful. Eugenia tried to light Ula on fire, but the Gryffindor was just too fast.

The other side of the piste had a little more success. Coming off of some impressive spell work, Sere sent a whip-fast Mimblewimble at Eugenia, once again tying the girl's tongue. That might be starting to get on Eugenia's nerves. Siobhan and Ula sent twin Knockback Jinxes at Axyen, forcing him to pick which spell he'd focus on. He avoided Siobhan's, but Ula's slammed right into his hip. Between that, his own spell, and the last lingering sting of green flame, he was looking worse for wear.

But Hufflepuff's attack wasn't quite finished. The storm Axyen had laid before rumbled threateningly, which was often just noise, but not this time. A bolt of lightning struck down on Ula, in the space of a blink, and left her similarly unsteady on her feet. Axyen and Ula would have to be careful, now; they were already targets before the metaphorical blood in the water.
