Stage 38: Running Man

A basic rule of life - never accept a drink from any stranger, especially not from a random elf who muttered endlessly to themselves about seemingly irrelevant things. The glint in the house elf's eyes, their eerily soft, gentle tone... something about it just didn't add up. The critter couldn't be trusted.
Joseph ran for it. He didn't look back, bolting out of the ward and tearing down the corridor. He was better off like this, safe from the schemes of the little elf than taking a risk with that suspicious drink. Besides, he already had his share of unknown fluids. Too big of a share, if he had to be honest.
Panting, Joseph skidded to a stop outside an abandoned classroom. He'd seek refuge here now. Wait a while. Ensure the coast was clear before returning to his normal life - whatever that meant anymore. He could only hope the house elf wasn't coming after him.
Joseph gulped, pushing his way into a classroom, before blinking in shock. The classroom wasn't deserted after all. It was filled with students, many seeming just as panicked as him. But something else caught his attention.
One of them - maybe more - was cradling a doll.
Identical to the one that had vanished from beneath his bed.
Life is like a box of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans; you never know what you are going to get.
Stage 38: Running Man
XXXEonaria paled, hearing the footsteps racing down the hall. It made her think of angry hordes of creepy doll-worshippers, searching for their victims-- those victims being every student standing in this classroom right now. The Slytherin with the doll Kaitlyn approached the door, drawing her wand and leaving her doll on one of the desks. Eonaria shivered, her gaze lingering on it as it lay there innocently. It felt as if it could just stand up and start attacking them at any moment.
XXXOne of the Gryffindors Linda spoke, addressing the Slytherin uncertainly. Oh, her name's Kaitlyn, Eonaria thought, committing that information to memory. With the amount of people here, it wasn't exactly effective in an apocalyptic-whatever-those-dolls-are situation to be referring to everyone by their house and hair color. The footsteps continued, the beat practically worming its way into her chest. Eonaria tried to regulate her breathing and heartrate, glancing around the room.
XXXThe next moment, the door burst open again. Eonaria jumped in fright, letting out a small squeak of terror before recognizing Joseph. He looked just as shocked as Eonaria had felt when she first arrived, too. She gave him a small wave, her mind racing. Had Joseph encountered the... stampede going on in the corridors? "Are you alright?" she asked. "Do you know what's going on out there?"

Kai stared at Kaitlyn and Linda, her wand finally still in her hands, when a strange boy she had never encountered before ran in. Her eyes narrowed, flicking between the other Gryffindor Eonaria, who was talking to the Hufflepuff Joseph who had just run in. She rose from the desk, standing briefly on the chair before leaping to the floor.
Kai, who still was gripping her wand, walked over to Kaitlyn and Linda. "I'll help you, if that's what it comes to, I'm not one to let people fight alone." Her voice was still a little rough, but her eyes were full of determined conviction, practically shining with it.
Adrenaline thrummed through her veins with the prospect of a challenge, possibly even a fight. She relished in the sensation, twisting her wand in her fingers. Her eyes flicked to the Hufflepuff boy and the Gryffindor girl again, wondering if he knew what they should expect.

Fantastic. It was now established that they were totally, utterly clueless about anything that was happening. Astra sighed, the sound equal parts frustrated and apprehensive. "Right, right, right, so-"
TAMP. TAMP. TAMP.
Drums.
No.
Astra looked around at her comrades. They heard it too, it wasn't a hallucination.
A voice. No inflection. Not human. Not robot, since they didn't have those here. So what?
It hit her like a bullet train.
Doll.
Astra moved to the door with Linda and Kaitlyn. "Guys," she hissed, as if afraid to be heard by anyone other than those in the room. "We shouldn't split, but we shouldn't all fight. We could hide in here, ambush them if they find one of us. We'd have a slight advantage. Then we could run." It was a half baked plan based on one too many action movies she, Nico, and Roderick had been too young to watch, but it was a lot better than standing around like cattle at a slaughterhouse. They had first years multiplying by the minute, Christ's sake. Least they could do was give them a chance to run.
