If you manage eye contact with the quiet girl, you’d find yourself met with a set of large, smokey blue eyes, and a pair of ever-furrowed eyebrows. Adeline’s Umber hair is never quite fixed, just as her uniform is never quite straightened out, and her things are never quite in order.
ReducioBiographyMuch of Adeline’s personality can be traced back to her early years spent watching her father tinker with gems and jewelry, creating magical, and non-magical, treasures by hand. A quirky man with an inventive personality, his unusual ways can be seen clearly reflected in his daughter. Despite her shyness, Addie can be quite a troublemaker, often letting curiosity lead her into sticky situations. A collector by nature, the young girl never has empty pockets. Stones, feathers, loose buttons; nothing is spared when it comes to Addie's hoard. Adeline is stubborn, avoidant, and quiet, preferring to watch the world from the sidelines, framing her as a bit of an outcast. It’s not that she is not kind, or that she doesn’t want friends to share her school days with. Sometimes, it’s a little bit more complicated than that.
ReducioFirst Instance of MagicAdeline was raised in the small coastal town of Tenby, Wales, where, to protect themselves, her family was forced to live modest lives. While they were not the only wizarding family in Tenby, many days it seemed as if that were the case.
Addie's father, Mavin, inherited his fathers (non magical) jewelry store in the town, and for many reasons, sentimentality leading the list, he cannot bear to leave it all behind. The mostly-muggle town need not know how Mavin repairs their treasures so quickly, or why his stones seem to shine brightest. The man also peddles magical trinkets and gems in Diagon Alley on his off days, where he dreams of one day opening a shop of his own.
Addie's mother Efa is a kind, spirited woman. She loves her family, and being raised by muggles, she has a connection to non-magical life. Because of this, Adeline has an adequate grasp on life outside of the wizarding world, and has no trouble blending in amongst muggles, which make up the vast majority of her peers in Tenby.
As a child, Addie spent most of her days pre-hogwarts with her parents and her grand-parents. She never had many friends, but did have a few buddies along the way, namely a muggle boy named Alex, her neighbor, who's family moved away by the time Adeline was nine. Her favorite pass times included reading, collecting treasures from the bay, and "talking" with their pet kneazle, Renfro. Addie never experienced typical hardship; everything was always easy-going with the Spinks family. If anything, she was often bored, wishing to be somewhere where they could be free.
There are exactly three other magical families in town, unfortunately they don't see each other as often as Addie would like. Adeline has always found it comforting that she was not the only witch in Tenby, even though it often felt like it. Thankfully, the families met up once or twice a month for dinner and a catch-up. This would be some of the only moments Addie was able to socialize.
Because of the Spink's social situation, they were quite close, often taking walks along the shore together, or creating art as a family. When Addie's muggle grandparents would visit, they would school her in basic principles that muggles her age were learning, and she always found it interesting. The simple ways of muggles intrigued her, and influenced her sympathy for, and allegiance to those of unpure blood status, particularly muggle born wizards like her parents. Although she had these feelings, Addie was essentially forbidden from socializing with muggle children in Tenby in fear of jeopardizing her safety. She would be friendly, she even knew some of their names, but aside from Alex, she never knew anything more.
ReducioA simple encounter at the age of 7 - a never ending bag of sweets. After finishing a bag of licorice, Adeline couldn’t help but wish there were just one more piece. Just to be sure, she checked the bag before tossing it, and was surprised to find that every last piece of the licorice had magically reappeared. And then reappeared again. And again.

The Caged Bird ☆ Addie isn't just a loner by nature- she's a loner by circumstance. She doesn't keep to herself because she dislikes people, but because her life before coming to Hogwarts was incredibly small, isolated, and controlled by the need to remain hidden. She wants to be social, but was never granted much of an opportunity to learn how to do so.
Scatter Brain ☆ Easily distracted, quick to forget. While quite intelligent, the clutter piled in the young girl's mind often leads to moments of clumsiness, distraction, forgetfulness, and general issues with navigating day to day life as a student.
Reluctant Leader ☆ Adeline doesn't see herself as the type. She's used to watching from the sidelines, analyzing situations from afar. Whenever possible, Kitty will be seen with Adeline, regardless of how mundane a task, not just because they enjoy eachother's company, but because Kitty's hoots are quite... bothersome.. when she is upset.

Kitty's favorite toy of all, and Adeline's favorite way to distract her. A gift that Addie received Christmas of her first year, from a secret santa.

Margaret—or "Maisie" as she is known to her family and friends—comes from a middle class Glaswegian family from the Southside. No, magic cannot buy you wealth nor happiness. Joy is a uniquely creative force, as her mother would say. It was joy that brought a couple together that perhaps never should have been in the first place.
Reducio𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐜: Maisie had been playing in her mother's studio. This was a common occurrence as the flat in the city was anything but large. Every once in while her mother might ask her opinion, not that she had a great sensibility art yet. And one day, she was quite opinionated on how a dress should look (after being agitated earlier) that when her mother disagreed, the scissors floated up on their own and cut off the hem abruptly. There could only be one culprit.The Gemmells were a line of very ordinary Scottish muggles—until the arrival of her father, Callum's letter of admission to Hogwarts. There, he would later met and fall in love with a young woman, Althia, who came from a longstanding magical family. Althia showed him the world in a new way, which was both as awe-inspiring as it was terrifying. Upon leaving the school, Callum struggled to balance the world he knew with the one he'd discovered.
Despite this and initial disapproval from Althia's family, the couple became a family. Callum struggled as a writer for both magical and non-magical publications alike, not having very many connections in either field, but he remained steadfast in covering the breaking political news of the day. Althia, on the other hand, was quick to start an apprenticeship at one of the dress shops in Diagon Alley. Although she began as a simple seamstress, she has worked her way up as a designer and dressmaker. Most recently, she has dressed emerging magical and muggle bands and artists, especially in Glasgow's underground music scene.
Because of the way the family has always straddled the magical and muggle worlds, it should come as no surprise that they felt it important to raise their daughter with a knowledge of both (while maintaining the statute of secrecy). In fact, her very name is a representation of that philosophy. She is named after each of her grandmothers: Margaret on her father's (muggle) side and Estelle on her mother's (magical) side.
Her childhood was largely uneventful—a happy, ordinary one. Perhaps the only difficulty was a lack of income compared to some of her peers, but it was never so low that she felt unsafe or uncared for. So, she took pleasure in activities she had access to, including sewing to help her mother. It was through sewing, she experienced her first sign of magic: levitating scissors after an emotional outburst while they were dressmaking together. Perhaps she has a little bit of a flair for the dramatic when called for.
Her father’s patience and journalistic skills come through in her academics, which she has always taken seriously. Her parents have high hopes this will continue at Hogwarts, even if the transition to a fully magical environment is a bit tricky. Maisie has always been one to let her curiosity lead her and this has been the key to her academic successes. Outside of this, she is both intuitive and assertive, unafraid to follow the beat of her own drum. She is looking forward to what joys her formal magical education might bring.
