Yeah. And sadly it can also be expensive and you can even be misdiagnosed on purpose.

Yeah. And see some people would like accommodations to help them in life. It’s very frustrating.
Edit: well anyway, I’ma hit the hay. I’m tired-

I think the main reason it is hard to diagnose is that the symptoms vary from person to person.
Same with ADHD, there are two parts of this disorder, inattentive and hyperactive. Some people may just be inattentive and not hyperactive, for example in class, they are just unfocused, and their minds wander around, but they don`t behave hyperactively such as standing up from their seats and walking around the classroom during class time. Those different individual cases make it different to diagnose. It also takes a long time to evaluate how serious their mental struggles are, maybe the therapist has to discuss with the teacher or other students to find out how their distractive behaviors affect the class or their grades, etc.

Forgive me for just jumping into the conversation but I would like to share my thoughts.

I would like to get tested for ADHD, as I have been told by many people in my like that have been tested for ADHD that I probably have it. After doing a lot of research via tiktok and various websites. As well as talking to people I came to the conclusion that I show many symptoms and would like to get tested so I can know. When I brought this up to my parents they told me that almost everyone shows some of the symptoms, but we can bring it up at my next doctors appointment. I still haven't gotten tested as I have yet to see my doctor. But I believe this might also play part in getting tested with ADHD and other things, with people not seeing they symptoms and not knowing how to get tested.

stories like this make me so grateful that i was diagnosed when I was younger :/ i can't even imagine how difficult it would be trying to get diagnosed at my age

Yeah, it is definitely better to get tested and diagnosed earlier, as you know what is going wrong. What differs ADHD sufferers from normally disruptive children is that the symptoms need to be serious enough that is seriously affected themselves and those around them and those negative effects need to continue for at least 6 months to classify as "disorder" (some people don`t like the word disorder since they think being inattentive and hyperactive is just a special condition and is not always bad. ADHD sufferers clearly struggle in their lives, but they can also be super creative and expressive, and be super attentive with the things they are super obsessed about (so called mind-flow state), so there are terms like "the powers of being hyperactive".)

I think if I was not diagnosed with ADHD at a very young age (approximately at age 4 or 5), and used meds as well as other non-medical interventions, I may not live a normal life like a neurotypical high school senior at this point of my life. <3
