excited her first spell was a success her confidence began to grow and she was excited to keep going and hopefully win her first duel as part of the dueling team. she readied herself for the next spell eyes locked on her opponent remaining focused the cheer of the crowd fading into the background it was just her team and the opposing team she wasn't going to let anything break her concentration.

A quiet, frustrated groan slipped out of her mouth before she could stop it. Of course it was just her luck to miss her target in her first duel. Despite that she just barely missed, by only centimetres, the fact remained that she missed. Looking around, a slight smile did appear on her face, when she saw her teammates hit their target. The lions, who had targeted only Violence, somehow didn't leave a single mark on the older raven, and all missed. Attempting to cheer herself up, Julia shared a small smile with her fellow duelists, and took her duelling stance once more, eyes flashing.

She didn't blame the young lions for trying to target her first, she was a second year after all. However, they had managed to disregard the fact that being older also meant having better sense of gameplay. She could almost cheer, because despite her dodges, she had managed to still successfully hit Derek. Satisfied with her performance, she instantly came up with a spell for the next round. English - Thoughts || Saturday, May 30th, 2026XXXAfter the stage flashed with the first bout of spells, Eonaria gasped. All of their casts had missed the second year Ravenclaw. How was that possible? Some really good reflexes, apparently. The first round had come off at a loss, but there were still plenty more to go. She didn’t recognise the spell that came hurtling towards her, and was a bit too slow to react, but the angle missed her by a few centimeters. Eonaria breathed a sigh of relief. She had made it through unscathed, but so had all of Ravenclaw. Her teammates had both gotten hit, but they would all keep fighting their best. You win some, you lose some.Action: as strategised

Derek stepped forward, his knuckles turning white as adrenaline flooded his veins. He teammates were recovering behind him, but he refused to let their team go down without a fight. The Ravenclaws looked entirely too comfortable after that opening volley, their smug confidence radiating across the dueling platform.. They were dead wrong. He was changing the game right now.

Majority of the piste merely stood there doing nothing, perhaps catching their breath after the first wave of spells. For several seconds, the platform sat in that peculiar stillness before a duel begins. Students watched for movement from Ravenclaw’s side expecting the usual immediate retaliation, wands raised, posture prepared.
But nothing came out of their wands.
Across from them, Gryffindor’s formation was no better. There had been signs of movement from Derek Jay and Eonaria Kabukimono at some point but neither ever committed to the bit. Whether they second-guessed themselves, lost timing, or simply found no opening, the result was the same. Nothing.
Only one wand actually moved from the six. Eric Kim stepped forward.
There was no visible uncertainty in the motion of his wand. The stick of wood snapped cleanly upward and a stream of fire erupted from the end. It was an incendio, just like the one . For a moment, it looked perfect.
The flames came out of Eric's wand raging, hotter at the center than ordinary casting. People close enough to see could tell immediately that the spell had been cast exceptionally well--especially Ara. The fire surged across the platform with the kind of confidence that usually meant impact was inevitable. And yet, Violence (the target) stepped aside as the flames passed close enough to illuminate the side of her robes in orange before carrying harmlessly past and dispersing against the protective barriers.
"Nice dodges so far. Keep it up guys, cast!"

Again? It didn't work...again? It was not helping that his teammates didn't get to do much this round for whatever reason. Then again, at least all was evened out since the Ravenclaws didn't seem in any better of a situation. It was like everyone decided to take a break for this, and he didn't get the memo.
Regardless, he needed to focus. Maybe that was why things were not going according to plan because he was not concentrating enough. A new round, a new attempt to get a spell that would work as Eric raked his mind to think of one, readying his wand once more.

Frustration ran through Julia's veins. How utterly stupid, not to mention embarrassing, it was to just stand like a corpse as though there was nothing to do. The whole Ravenclaw team were the same. Silent, standing, still. She'd been unable to choose a spell, and she assumed the same for her teammates. Julia's eyes flickered towards the wands of the Gryffindors, but no flash of light, no spell incantation, no movement was seen or heard. Only one stepped forward to cast. Eric Kim casted a fiery Incendio towards Violence, but the second year, seeming to be more aware now, dodged. It seemed as though no harm was done, nothing affected. But unfortunately, it was the same for the lions. Julia decided quickly this time, not willing to take chances. It was time to reverse the situation, to bring mild harm, to the lions, to affect them.

Eonaria had been so busy trying to anticipate the opposing team’s movements that she had forgotten to move herself. Yikes. And Eric, whom she barely knew past a name and a face, was the only person to take that step and fire a beautifully executed Incendio. Eonaria almost held her breath watching it move across the stage.
XXXThen it missed. That was a bit anticlimatic. Come on, snap out of it! she chastised herself. It was a wasted round, and they couldn’t afford to do so again.Action: as strategised
