To Nate's second question, he would write It's a special name made for someone by a person who uses sign. I make them for my friends. Sign names were a special thing for Elias. Only close people had them. Lance had one, if Parker and Brendon weren't Mom and Dad they would definitely have sign names, and when Cora still lived nearby she had one. Elias liked giving them to his friends. It felt special, like a gift.
Elias thought it was sort of sad that Nate didn't have any friends he could room with. Actually, it was really sad. The younger boy awkwardly patted his new friend on the shoulder with a sympathetic look. To be fair, the only people Elias had met so far were girls (minus Nate) and even back home the only person his age he could ever even consider rooming with was Cora, except that she was a girl and that was gross, so he'd likely be on his own. Unless...?
Nate's roommate proposal would be met with excitement again. Yeah! I would love to be your roommate.

Nate smiled, happy that Elias thought him worthy of a sign name. He hadn't really made many friends here - only Amber and Kaya. Honestly, he rarely talked to others unless they talked to him. He was trying to be more friendly, but there were a million ways a conversation would go wrong and he could imagine each and every one. Still, he was very thankful that this one hadn't failed and that he'd made a new friend to add to his slowly growing list.
Nate looked up, surprised, as Elias tapped him on the back. He assumed it was sympathetic - his statement had sounded sad, and there were few other reasons why someone would tap him on the back otherwise, especially as there was no need to grab his attention.
Nate smiled, glad he'd found a roommate. It had been lonely rooming on his own for the past year. He hoped it would be fun rooming with Elias, although he worried he may end up with a lack of sleep because of it. He'd never had a roommate before - he was an only child. Still, out of every potential roommate in the school, Elias ranked first in his opinion. Nate was excited to room with him.
