Summer Camp - Sugar Fair

Reuben loved sugar. He thought that doing a sugar fair on the first day of camp was a really thoughtful thing, and it would most definitely encourage more interactions among the students. He smiled brightly and walked over to the girl giving out tokens, a skip in his step. "Thanks so much!", he told her, smiling brightly.

He looked around for some familiar faces first, and noticed his fellow cabin-mate Tone, who was the first person who greeted him, that too with a hug! That had felt so good! He also noticed Zophyr, another fellow classmate who he had become friends with. Zophyr was a really quiet person, and seeing them interact with someone gave Reuben a sense of pride, for no particular reason.

He grinned as he approached them. "Hey Tone! Hey Zophyr! How are you both doing?", he asked, greeting Tone with a hug and settling for a handshake with Zophyr. He figured that Tone wouldn't mind a hug, knowing that he had greeted Reuben the same way earlier in the cabin.

Reuben glanced at all the wonderful stalls and wondered whether he should put up his own or should just distribute the sweets for free. He also wondered how he would be able to enjoy all these wonderful sweets with just 50 tokens in his hand. Oh well, he would see of that when the time came. For now, it was time to enjoy being in the company of someone else.

After she finished getting settled in the Augurey Cabin and spent some time getting to know her cabinmates, Serena decided to check out the sugar fair. She had chosen to stay in the same outfit that she had arrived to camp in: a pale pink tank top, a pair of blue jean shorts, and some pink Converse with her long, blonde hair up in a ponytail. While she wouldn’t necessarily say that she had a major sweet tooth, the fifth year did like sweets as much as anyone else did. Besides, the opening event was a great way to meet new people and hopefully find some friends to hang out with for the rest of the summer.

So, Serena walked over to the event area, admiring the little lights decorating the path. She listened attentively to one of the event hosts explain how the fair would work. If Serena had known that selling her own sweets was an option, she might have brought some to sell and share with her peers. But she wasn’t too upset about it as she still would get to sample everyone else’s delicious treats.

After the first host was done speaking, Serena received her bag of fifty tokens from the other host. “Thank you!” She said with a smile.

Once she got her tokens, Serena began to look around at the different stalls, trying to decide what to try first. She ended up deciding to go for a licorice wand, leaving a token in the bowl. She began to eat her treat as she continued to wander around the fair, looking over the stalls to see if anything else jumped out at her.

Still munching on their newfound favorite food in the world (yes, the pastry), Zophyr listened as Tone said that he liked making his own homemade sweets. "That's very intriguing, is it hard to make? What kinds of sweets do you prefer? I like to cook, but I don't bake very much, and sweets sound like something completely different." It was the most speaking they'd done probably all day, which meant Tone had definitely piqued their interest.
He then told them that the two should be friends, and asked if they wanted to. Zophyr was a little taken aback, because it wasn't often people asked others to be friends (and especially not them - they rarely spoke to anyone). It usually just... happened. But after a little hesitation, Zophyr nodded. "I will gladly be your friend."

Tone seemed to have noticed a girl a few meters away, which made Zophyr wonder whether their interaction had happened before, but with someone else. They had a feeling the fourth year liked collecting... friends. It was a weird hobby, but Zophyr appreciated it. It seemed it made both parties happy, usually. And Tone seemed much too kind to be mean to anyone. Though appearances weren't everything. You could never really know.

Zophyr heard their voice and turned around to see Reuben, a fellow Uagadou student. It was a weird feeling, but it felt slightly off seeing him there. Zophyr hadn't seen any of their schoolmates since they'd travelled here that morning, and being at Hogwarts with so many people they didn't know made it peculiar to see someone they did amidst the chaos. Not that they were complaining. Reuben was, though a little chaotic, a good friend.
"Hello, Reuben," they said, shaking his hand. Tone was quick to recommend the pastries to him - it seemed they already knew each other, which didn't surprise Zophyr in the least, knowing Tone - and they started talking. Zophyr was glad to listen and not say anything, a smile on their face, just glad to be with their friends. It was a rare feeling, but a great one.

EmmaLee frowned thoughtfully, resting the knuckle of her index finger on her bottom lip as she made her way over the grounds. Her cabin, the Dragon cabin, was an interesting mix of ages and personalities and it seemed to be a bubbling cauldron of people who were far too excited to be there, people who really did not want to be there, and people just mischievous enough to stir that pot. EmmaLee hadn't quite decided how much time she would spend in her cabin that summer, she would rather not get caught in any more crossfire, but she was glad at the moment that an impending event gave her an opportunity to leave it. Minx, her cat, on the other hand had decided to remain in her (their?) bunk and settle in for a long cat nap where she could observe the other animals occupying the house instead of exploring. This left her girl to wander alone, so off EmmaLee went to find the Sugar Fair.

And find it she did. Rather quickly and easily, thankfully. The great trail of people and cluster of candy stalls were very easily spotted and followed. EmmaLee got in line to collect her tokens and promptly put them in the pocket of her light blue sundress. She wasn't really sure that she would even eat 50 individual sweets, but she could probably hand out any extras to new friends once her rather small sweet tooth was satisfied.

As she wandered the stalls looking for anyone interesting to talk to, she did produce and small lavender honey candy out of a different bag in her pocket and sucked on it as she walked along. This was of a fresh batch that her mother had sent her a few days ago. It was a kind of comfort candy that she carried always to hand to friends or for just a small sweet when she felt snacky. The habit would definitely come in handy here as it seemed lots of people had brought their own candy to spare and share. She made a mental note to share her own candy with anyone who crossed her path. She had more than enough and if she ran out over the month, she could either ask her mother to send more, or make her own in the Dragon cabin's kitchen. Maybe she could turn that into a cabin bonding activity.

EmmaLee turned her head and smiled widely as she heard someone mention her barrette. It was a pink haired boy about her age among a group of other students apparently sampling some pastries at one of the stalls.

"'Ello," she said walking over with a small wave to everyone present. She giggled a little at how exuberant the pink haired boy, who introduced himself as Tone was. "It is nice to meet you, Tone. I'm EmmaLee and I think I will try those pastries." She continued, moving around to purchase an apple, a strawberry, and a raspberry pastry. She took a bite out of the apple one first, at Tone's suggestion, and smiled as the warm apple flavor hit her tongue. It reminded her of making pastries at the bakery in France with Tante Emilia.

"These are very good!" She exclaimed after she swallowed her first bite. "I got the raspberry and the strawberry one to try as well. Strawberry anything is usually my favorite, but I might try the blueberry one as well." She giggled a little. "These are good enough to just buy a whole basket of."

That was probably what she would do, to be honest. She wasn't very inclined to buy a whole bunch of sweets and maybe she could share them when she got back to her cabin later, especially with the grumpy Beauxbatons girl. She decided that she would buy the blueberry one and then come back a little later to give others a chance to buy some.

"Are you all 'aving a good time at camp so far?" She asked, turning to acknowledge each person in the group and let them know that she was asking all of them. "Do you like your cabins?" She continued to munch of the apple pastry as she waited for their answers.

Zophyr grinned as Tone spoke about all he liked to make. They were now sure Tone knew exactly what he was talking about when it came to food. I'm going to have to keep spending time with you so I can get a taste of one of those," they said with a mischievous smile. As it turned out, Tone didn't like cooking, so it worked out perfectly. Maybe Zophyr could bribe him with his cooking and get some sweets in return...

They'd guessed correctly that Tone collected friends. After Reuben came an older girl, who Tone talked to and recommended some pastries to, and then a blonde one who seemed Zophyr's age. Once again, Tone didn't waste a second and told her to come on over and try one of the pastries there. Zophyr couldn't disagree - these were amazing. They bought yet another one, bringing their token count down to 46.
The blonde girl (who, as Tone had pointed out, had a cool barrette) walked over to them, buying three different pastries and introducing herself. She had a bit of a French accent, and Zophyr wondered where she was from. Beauxbatons, maybe? But she seemed like she knew the grounds, so... maybe she'd been here last year. Or maybe she was older than she looked. She could also have been a Hogwarts student, but not many of them had French accents.

One Zophyr was done assessing, they decided to join in on the conversation. EmmaLee had talked a bit about the different pastry flavors, which they nodded to, before asking if they were having a good time at camp so far. "I don't know about Tone or Reuben, but I am," Zophyr said. "Though it's only been a few days. Everything is very different from what I am used to back at Uagadou." They paused to let the others speak their thoughts. "As for my cabin, it is a little grey, but I like the company. Which cabin are you all in? And, if you don't mind my asking, which schools are you from? Apart from Reuben, of course."
