The Misfits vs. The Scaly Wings
The first day of the Games had come and gone, and now it was time for the second day of festivities and lighthearted competition: the Ice Hockey tournaments, taking place in the early evening. So as to avoid tiring out the student athletes, each team of four would only play one match, and the judges sitting on the sidelines of Lake Bear would judge based on points scored and showmanship who exactly would win the gold medal.
This event is part of the 2026 International Magical Olympic Games. February 17th, 2026 Lake Bear (frozen), Russian Federation
The judges were, as usual, made up of a panel of headmasters from the various international schools. @Aulis Vorozheykin, as the host of the Games, sat on one end; then down the line came @Alan Dolus from Ilvermorny, @Lawrence Maynard of Tenūsa, and finally Durmstrang's @Emery Albrecht. There were also (anonymous, undescribed, and unnamed) referees who would be up close and personal with each match, ensuring that no cheating would dare make it past their scrutinising eyes.
The match at present was the Misfits versus the Scaly Wings. The former team certainly lived up to their name, boasting two Hogwarts students of Gryffindor House accompanied by two seventh-years from different international schools; the latter team also had a student from Beauxbâtons, but was otherwise made up entirely of Hogwarts attendees. The teams could take the ice on the referee's whistle and begin the first and only hockey match of the 4th-7th years present at the IMOG.
Let the games begin...
HOW TO PLAY
There will be three rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats and abilities in your post (NO broom stats; you are not riding brooms).
Each round, you must perform an action from the Hockey Actions List. These are similar to the Quidditch Actions, but not all actions from Quidditch can be utilised in Hockey. As such, please carefully consult the list before deciding what action to play.
Other than the changes of actions, all other Quidditch rules apply, including order of rolls and penalty laps.
The sport of ice hockey has also introduced something called a showmanship point. Note that showmanship points will only be gained if the action is successful, and some actions can lose you showmanship points even if successful. At the end of the matches, in case of a tie in goals, showmanship points will be used to break the tie - but if a team has more goals, they win, plain and simple. Your first objective should be to score goals, and showmanship points come secondary.
At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to Aulis Vorozheykin before the posting deadline.
This event is moderated and it was required to sign up for it ahead of time. Please do NOT post here if your character is not signed up.
Please do not godmod Aulis or any of the other judges.

Late posts will not be included in the moderation and will not perform their actions.
Please note that my student iNPC, Manu, is on one of the teams. As such, I will not at all be involved in the planning of actions from the Misfits to ensure fairness. I will post on Manu, but the first time I see the actions will be when they are submitted to me by the other team members. She is essentially acting the part of a dNPC to fill the last slot in a team.

Go, go, go!

Manu had been hesitant, after the disastrous visit to Tenūsa, to attend these Olympic games in the snowy wintry tundra of Russia - but the moment she stepped onto the ice for her sporting event, the Brazilian girl was glad she had come. A duellist by nature but also a fan of Muggle sport, Manu quite enjoyed the hard breathing and racing hearts that accompanied a good bit of exercise, and if she could bring back a golden medal for her country and for her school, then all the better.
The seventh-year from Castelobruxo had been assigned to a hockey team with three boys - two from Hogwarts, by the looks of them, and the final a handsome, pale-faced lad from Beauxbâtons. This wasn’t totally unusual for Manu, who was used to working on teams of men (and fighting for her rightful place amongst them). She greeted her teammates with a curt nod and a low grunt as she picked up one of the hockey sticks provided for them and skated out to centre ice with some degree of difficulty. Having grown up in Rio did not exactly lend itself to being comfortable in cold-weather climates, though she had practiced ice skating a bit before the journey to Koldovstoretz.
In the stands, she spotted a macabre type of version of her long-standing Hogwarts friend and penpal, Aly. Since when did the cheerful Ravenclaw dress in all black? Holding back a smile - perhaps Manu had had more of an effect on Aly than she’d realised - the Castelobruxo student put her head down and readied herself for the start of the match.

Today was the day. Today was the day where Cash would be participate for the International Magic Olympic Games. Truth to be told, this is the first time Cash ever beem to Russia by themselves.
Cash always prefer cold air rather than the hot and humid air that usually associate with Summer. But Russian's winter air, was another level that even with the layer of clothing that Cash wore, the coldness still seeping through the fabric of their article of clothing.
As the thin layer of vapor escaped from Cash's moutth, their green eyes scanned the spectators that come to watched for the game. Standing, like a sore thumb because how tall the boy is, stood Cash's annoying cousin one Verona Andréas.
The boy smile so wide and gave his cousin both thumbs up and let out a wink to Cash. Cash shake their head and make sure that their head were in the game.
Cash couldn"t bareely remember when the last time they skate. But Cash was confidene in their skating skills. After securing their black and gold skate shoes, they picked up the necessary gear from the pile and saunters over to their teammate.
"Okay, so here what we going to do..."

| ___ | The brunette's decision to attend the International Magical Olympic Games was rather ad hoc; she had neglected to attend in previous years, rendering the visit to Koldovstoretz unprecedented. Festivities definitely were not her cup of tea. The sports caught her eye, however. Ebony had considered joining figure skating, given her little impromptu skating episode with @Charlotte Winfield, but at second glance, competing in such a sport seemed slightly too elegant for the fifth-year. So, she had instead settled with ice hockey; seemed fun, appropriate for a tad bit of competition, and was somewhat similar to Quidditch, albeit leaning more towards a Muggle sport. Instead of brooms, players were in skates, and instead of wielding a bat, the girl now wielded a hockey stick. As she gingerly stepped onto the ice, the Ravenclaw was quickly reminded that she was no expert at it. Though Ebony had skated quite a little bit in the winter back then when she was younger, she still found it hard to balance her weight upon the seemingly flimsy blades attached to her shoes while propping up the hockey stick. The hockey shoes were ostensibly different from ice skating shoes too, making for another point of unfamiliarity. Attempting to familiarise herself with the strange new movements, she adjusted her grip on the hockey stick to her comfort, and then attempted to propel herself towards her assigned teammates, braking with quite a bit of difficulty. The brunette scanned the pitch, surveying her teammates up close for the first time. She recognised the blond, Cassandra, whom she was somewhat acquainted with after having exchanged a couple words with them on her ride on the Express and during some silly Valentine festivity. The remaining two she did not recognise. Their opponents seemed largely unfamiliar to the Ravenclaw as well, though the girl seemed to room in the same yurt, if Ebony wasn't hallucinating. Directing her gaze towards the spectators situated on the sidelines, she glimpsed the blurry figure of Aly, her Quidditch teammate, with her unmistakeable curls. Was that a wave she saw? The seventh-year had always been a kind individual. Ebony lifted her arm to wave back, offering a rare genuine smile. The sight of a familiar face brought some reassurance, but it was in no way enough to quell her discomfort amidst the cold and the strange wobbly shoes. |

A sport, with direct competition, and none of that magic nonsense in it? No brooms, no spells, just a purely Muggle match? He wasn't quite sure how that had happened, considering this whole event was labelled Magical Olympics, but sign Raphael the hell up.
Now, the only problem was that hockey required a team - and anyone Raphael would usually ask to team up seemed to be either not present or already taken. (Not that there were a lot of people he'd usually ask to team up, he'd probably just hit up his Quidditch team mates and hope they brought their other friends.) Either way, the deadline to register was approaching, so when he overheard a Hogwarts student talking about putting together a last minute team at the next table over during breakfast, he stared down at the cereal in his bowl for a long minute, steeled himself, and turned around to tap the guy on the shoulder. His English had always been choppy at best, and he could not be bothered to pretend otherwise, so he just pointed at the blond boy. "Hockey team?" he asked, then turned the thumb to his own chest. "I'm good." Or rather, he trusted his natural aptitude for physical sports, despite having no experience on skates at all.
He ended up using the day and a half before their match to get some practice in, and by the time he stepped onto the ice fully decked out in protective gear, hockey stick in hand, he was able to accelerate to breakneck speeds very quickly, and had even figured out how to brake reasonably well. The morning had been spent trying to teach himself how to skate backwards, but that had only shown questionable success. A quick circle around the rink helped him gain a feel for the ice. Slowing down once he was passing his team members again, Raphael offered his gloved hand for a high-five and came to a halt on the other side of the little group, nodding in response at the pretty Brazilian girl on his team.
On the other side of the field, he spotted a familiar face; and, after a short pause, called over, "Oi! Quentin!" He raised his stick in greeting, a rare smile lighting up his face, then added, "Guess it's only fair that we split up, so everyone has a chance."
He flexed his fingers around the handle of his hockey stick, the same way he might usually do around his broom, then glanced sideways at his team. Might as well... try to show some team spirit, or something, before he got to channel the nervous energy in his limbs into beating the other team. The words came out with a thick French accent. "Let's give them hell."

| —— | ![]() you better run, got the wand, already won. the parasite under your skin, the predator hiding within. ━━ summary, this thread is happening on FEBRUARY 17TH, 2026, in the EVENING with THE HOCKEY PLAYERS. / wc: 229. Harlan hadn't initially planned on heading to Russia for this little impromptu Olympic Games at Koldovstoretz, but remembering that he had talked to @Romélie de Brissac after the hellscape that was the Tenūsa event had him thinking his luck couldn't be so bad that both events would turn dark or macabre. Thinking it was mostly bullshit that he was forced to play against the upper years, Harlan spent most of his time at Koldov annoyed that this meant he would have to play against the behemoths of sports like Dealla, Aly, or even Atlas. It was already annoying that Quidditch was hell with them throwing their weight around against the younger years and Harlan couldn't wait to be a terror, too. Asked by one of his house mates to join a team, Harlan was thankful to be considered and with such impressive upperclassmen too. He hadn't known the other team properly but he had spotted two Ravenclaws who had made Broom Racing and Quidditch miserable when he played with Gryffindor. Harlan smirked, knowing this could be his divine payback. The lion hadn't skated much but it was remarkable how much talent he could pull from pure spite alone. Looking directly at the other team, Harlan clutched his hockey stick and readied himself as he often would during Quidditch. He was more than ready to let his competitive spirit soar.

Why a hockey team, one might ask? Well, quite simply, he had more teeth than he knew what to do with, and this seemed the simplest, most entertaining way of lessening that problem.
In reality, Marshal hadn’t been involved in any sport for a significant amount of time, and found himself missing it dearly as of late. The competition, the adrenaline, the accolades; these things were difficult to replicate in every day life, and nothing else could hope to satisfy his love for the game. Not this game in particular, of course, but it seemed as close to quidditch as he was likely to get. And all the better if he got to throw his weight around a bit.
Having played and practiced as a Beater, the sixth year was familiar with the feel of a stick in his hand, yet the concept of being athletic on ice was foreign to him. He’d gone ice skating a time or two in his younger years, and thus possessed a general understanding of how to avoid planting one’s face upon the ground, but that was roughly the extent of any advantage his experience had provided. As such, he’d dedicated as much time as he’d been able toward honing his ice-cutting skills since learning he had a team; which was, admittedly, not long at all before this very moment.
Having no grapevine of gossiping pals at his disposal and essentially persisting ‘neath the languishing mass of a rock, Marshal was often the last to discover school events and happenings. It was a small problem on most occasions, given his persistent lack of interest, but this mote of information regarding ice hockey had overthrown his usual apathy. Upon asking around, he had discovered no prospective teams with any openings, and had therefore opted to improvise. The first to join his band of Misfits had been fellow Gryffindor, Harlan Montgomery, the second a strapping Frenchman named Raphael, who had approached of his own accord upon overhearing Marshal’s previously unsuccessful campaign. As for the fourth and final member of the team, Manu something-or-other, the details of her recruitment were oddly fuzzy, almost as if she’d been an emergency addition to an incomplete team (Appreciated).
Knowing absolutely nothing regarding the latter two, aside from Raphael’s affirmation that he was “good,” the Gryffindor had welcomed them with open arms. Fingers crossed this didn’t go horribly wrong.
Taking to the rink, the young man found himself slightly bothered by the encumbrance of a goalie’s pads and face mask. How exactly was he to let his raw athleticism shine if he touted all the characteristics of a brick wall?
It wasn’t exactly his preferred position, but it had generally been decided as the best option, given the circumstances, as had been the case for the others.
Presently, he peered through the bars of his mask toward the crowd, skimming over faces in search of familiar features. Not that he figured many eyes would be watching the match for his sake, but there was one pair he thought just might be present. And there they were, peering critically from fair features belonging to a girl on… a couch?
Head cocked to one side in a genuine attempt to get a better look, Marshal’s expression adopted a bemused status. Evelynn really did have her own style… if that’s how it could be viewed. Although he had to admit the seat looked quite comfortable.
The second occupant of said couch also drew his attention, snatching his gaze in the same odd way he’d experienced upon speaking with her for the first time. One day, he supposed he might work out exactly why — in a world brimming with beautiful people — Aly Salinger captivated him so. It took a small bit of effort, though he did rend his eyes from her person after a moment.
Raising his stick in a nonchalant wave at the two girls, he then turned his attention to the task at hand. The game was about to begin, and he did not intend to lose.

The Misfits vs. The Scaly Wings
Maybe this was a bad idea.
Trying to navigate an unfamiliar place carrying heavy goalie gear, a hockey stick, and skates was not an easy task, yet it was one Ari was attempting to do, nonetheless. By the time he made it to the frozen lake, he was already out of breath. Not a great way to start the day.
The cold here in Russia was a different kind of cold compared to what he was used to back home in England. It made his nose, throat, and lungs sting with each breath like icicles brushing against his airways. He didn't really have much time to adapt to it, but at least he had enough layers on to keep his body relatively comfortable. He would just have to grin and bear the rest of it until the game was over and he could return to the comfort of his yurt.
As he put on his skates and goalie gear just outside the ice, he glanced around, surveying the landscape. It was beautiful and serene. His dear friend Elena was just here at this same lake yesterday, skating on the ice in a much different fashion than what he was about to do. Maybe she was watching on the sidelines somewhere. If she was, he would try to make her proud. He would also try to make his mom proud in doing this. She was a seeker back when she was a student at Hogwarts, and she was Ari's exposure to various kinds of sports including hockey. She had taken him ice skating a few times when he was younger, and while he couldn't do cool tricks like she could, he was comfortable moving around. Thankfully, he wouldn't have to do a lot of that in the position he was in.
Ari was used to being in the mix of rougher sports. He was a well tenured broom racer after all, so this couldn't be too hard, right? Hopefully no one else would come hurdling his way, but that was something that had to be considered. He probably wouldn't leave this lake spotless or without a bump or bruise, but that was okay. After finally putting on his helmet and mask, he slowly pushed himself up, getting a feel for the weight of the gear. He stepped onto the ice and skated over to the rest of his teammates.
"Hey guys. Let's do our best and take the win, okay? And even if we don't, just have fun. That's the best thing we can do, right?" He said, offering the same fist bump he would give his broom racing team before each match. Then, he skated over to take his place in front of the goal he was charged to block. Three words repeated in his mind, something his mom wrote in a note many years ago before he boarded the train to Hogwarts for the first time: be a warrior. While he wasn't sure he would live up to that 5 years ago, he knew he could do his best to live up to it now. He'd prove his own mind wrong on this ice and show the team what he was capable of.

Every since the announcement of the International Magical Olympic Games reached the ivy walls of Beauxbatons, Quentin had been training for this moment. Sure, it wasn't his dream sport—wrestling—but quidditch wasn't either, and he was great at that! And hockey had a bit of rough and tumble. Maybe the French boy would have an advantage due to his obsession with muggle sporting events. Well, he had never really been ice skating before this school year, where he clumsily trained between quidditch practices, but if anyone had the bravado to fake it and make it, it was probably Quentin Gagné.
His teammates were a bunch of Brits, but they seemed to have enough relevant in experience in quidditch and racing. He hoped they could all transfer their skills to the ice. One team member in particular, who went by Cash, took charge with the strategy. Quentin wasn't sure what their muggle credentials were, but he was mostly here to push people across the ice, so he didn't mind as long as he could focus on good ole defense.
Finally getting on the ice, his legs a little wobbly underneath him but he remained right-side up, Quentin surveyed the landscape. Russia was a little colder than Paris or Louisiana had prepared him for. Not even vacations in the Alps with his grandmother felt quite this bone-chilling. He should try to training in adverse conditions more often. He spotted a familiar face—Raphael had made the trip to play hockey, too. "Raphael! This is great! Whoever loses owes the other a canelé!"
