october 7th, 2022. friday, beginning of lunchtime. open to all! tw: mentions of death.
mentions @everly charlton. continued from here. (solo is located in gryffindor common room, so if anyone wants me to google doc it for them, just lmk!)Ivy had sprinted from the common room to the Great Hall, letter still clutched in her hand, vision blurred with tears. There was so much going on in her head right now. She could hardly even think, let alone even process her feelings. What was she here for again? Not lunch, certainly not anymore. Her stomach was roiling and she doubted she could keep anything down if she did try to eat. Oh, that was right. She wanted to find Everly, didn't she? To confront her about the letter she'd hidden away in her textbook for god knows how long. To scream the question why? for everyone to hear - she didn't care if she embarrassed herself or Everly in front of the whole school. She deserved an answer, didn't she?
Mere minutes ago, Ivy had discovered a letter written from her brother-in-law, informing her of her older sister's death. Only this letter had been written weeks ago, and she'd found it in the back of her favourite cousin's textbook. Ivy recalled the doubt she'd felt before reading the letter, how she'd felt guilty for snooping in Everly's private business. If the situation wasn't so horrible, she might have even laughed at the irony of it all. Blind, hot anger coursd through her veins once again. How dare she? How dare she intercept Ivy's mail, read it, and then keep it a secret from her? Especially news as big as this one? Ivy's breath hitched in the back of her throat and she wiped the tears from her eyes. She had hardly even noticed that she was crying.
Standing stock still in the doorway of the Great Hall, Ivy recalled the sinking feeling and the initial denial. The thought that this was just a sick joke - Everly's idea of a prank, maybe? It had to be. She could not be losing someone else again, not this soon. What had she done wrong to bring misfortune on her loved ones? she wondered. If she'd done one little thing differently, would the universe had let her keep Lillian and Alison? If she'd been a more obedient daughter, if she'd spoken a little more kindly to her peers, if she'd had the strength to just be better, would this had happened? Was all the loss and grief that she was going through brought down upon her by herself? Ivy vaguely remembered throwing a book at the wall in the common room. Maybe it was Everly's, maybe it was one of her own. She couldn't remember. Events that had happened only a few minutes ago had already blended into a strange, fuzzy blur.
Ivy stared blankly at the students eating lunch in the Great Hall, grey eyes moving slowly from table to table, trying to place Everly. The problem was, her head was suddenly hurting. A lot. Or maybe it had been hurting this entire time and she just hadn't realised. And her eyesight was going really blurry, and there were black dots out the corner of her eye - maybe she should get some glasses... Lillian used to wear glasses... Someone trying to get to lunch brushed past her. Ivy recoiled from them, taking a clumsy, stumbling step backwards, dropping the crumpled-up letter in her hands as she did so. The person was saying something, holding out their hands almost as if trying to steady her, but she couldn't hear anything all of a sudden. Ivy stared at them. Should she be panicking that she couldn't hear what they were saying? Wait, did she know this person? She couldn't think straight. What was going on? Why did her legs feel so wobbly? Where was Everly? Where was Lillian?
Ivy swayed a little on the spot, and then she fainted dead away into a heap on the floor. She felt herself falling and tried to catch herself, but before she knew it, the world went pitch dark, and then she was nothing and nowhere at all.ReducioIf anyone picks up the letter that Ivy dropped, it will read:
SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2022.
Dear Ivy,
I am sorry to be the bringer of terrible news. It breaks my heart to inform you that Lillian, your sister and my wife, was killed in a car accident yesterday morning on her way to work. As your brother-in-law, I wanted to let you know right away instead of you finding out on your own when you returned from Hogwarts for winter break.
There are no plans for a service or a funeral as of right now, but we will likely be organising something in October to commemorate Lillian's memory and life. It was always Lillian's wish that her parents and extended family aside from you would not be informed if something ever happened to her, so I must ask you to respect these wishes by not sharing her death with them. I will certainly let you know when there are solid plans for a memorial service/funeral.
Once again, I'm incredibly sorry to be the one to let you know this. Lillian always spoke of her fond childhood memories involving you and you two had such a special bond from what I've seen in these recent years. You were truly one of the people she treasured and loved the most, and I know this will be difficult for you. Please know that you will always have my support if you need it.
Sincerely,
Noah

It was unusual for Samantha to sit alone during lunch but today she had decided to skip her friends and eat alone. Today wasn't a day like any other because the young girl still needed to prepare a lot for the next day. The day of the ball. The day Bubba McGarry would be her date. Everything needed to be absolutely perfect tomorrow and not eating with her friend for one day was a good sacrifice for an amazing night. Bubba wasn't just a guy, he was Samantha's first real crush and a real gentleman. He made amazing jokes and was the most handsome boy the brunette had ever seen.
Her mind going over her to-do list for that day, the brunette quietly ate the sandwich she had made just a few minutes ago. If she would leave now she would probably have enough time to try out a new hairstyle and see if it was better than the last. The prefect quickly stood up from her seat, half-eaten sandwich still in her hand, as she swung her bag over her shoulder. Her little feet carried her as fast as they could to the exit of the great hall as she rushed through a group of students that were about to eat their lunch. Mumbling a soft "sorry" to a first-year she had pushed out of her way, she ate the last piece of her sandwich.
If she would rush to her dorm she would probably have a good 20 minutes to try the hairstyle before the next class. The young girl had almost left the great hall when she noticed a letter falling to the ground. Picking up a letter shouldn't take too long and it was nice to help somebody. With those thoughts, Samantha made her way over to the letter as she searched the room for the owner. A wave of worries hit her when her eyes spotted the students to whom the letter belonged, a slightly older girl who didn't seem to have the greatest balance. Before the brunette could even pick up the letter or move closer to the girl, the other fainted.
After a few seconds of staring at the unknown girl in horror, she rushed to her and kneeled down beside her. "Are you okay?" she asked the unconscious girl. It wasn't the smartest move because the other girl couldn't answer but she had no idea what else to do.

Outfit: Uniform If you asked Adelaide whether she was excited for the ball tomorrow, she wouldn't even bother answering you before walking away. The only likely reaction you'd elicit from her would be her face scrunching up in a mix of emotions you probably couldn't decipher. That was a problem for another day though, so for the next 24 hours, she was determined to live in peaceful bliss. Her day had been relatively mundane so far, just the same old routine as every other day (something tells her the universe is making up for the chaos tomorrow will be), so she was neither happy nor unhappy.
She was definitely in the mood for food though. When the doors of the Great Hall came into view, she was simultaneously surprised and confused to see a familiar figure standing in the doorway, not making any move to walk into the Great Hall. Adelaide walked closer and brushed past the figure, intending to double-check if they really were who she thought they were. Her suspicions were confirmed, but then Ivy stumbled backwards a step and Adelaide's arms shot out to try and steady the older girl. "Woah! Ivy, you alright?" Her voice was dripping with concern, Ivy seemed completely out of it. Out of touch with everything around her, as if she wasn't comprehending what Adelaide was saying. Adelaide didn't even know if Ivy realized she was standing in front of her. "Ivy?" Adelaide repeated once more, brows furrowing in concern as her stomach dropped with worry for the older girl.
And then Ivy fell. Adelaide jerked forward automatically, her arms stretching out in her best attempt to break Ivy's fall. She fell to her knees beside the older girl and looked around frantically, either for help or to figure out what had happened. Had someone slipped something into Ivy's drink? Did she just not have enough to eat or drink today? Her eyes fell onto the slip of paper that Ivy had dropped when she had stumbled backwards. Adelaide didn't want to snoop on the girl's private life, but surely this had to be whatever had caused this. Picking up the letter, she scanned it as quickly as she possibly could. Her mouth dropped open in shock, and she felt tears well up in her eyes. Oh Merlin. This couldn't be happening, this couldn't be real. Ivy had already lost Alison, and now Lillian? Why? She didn't know either sister that well, and she didn't, and hopefully would never, need to know what it feels like to lose not one, but two beloved family members, but Ivy did. And her heart ached for her. The girl she viewed as a sister.
The girl she viewed as a sister who was currently unconscious on the floor. What was she meant to do in a situation like this? She didn't want to leave Ivy, but she knew someone needed to get the nurse. Or a professor. Or someone who knew what to do in this situation. For all of the intelligence Adelaide possessed, for how smart she was, the answer of what to do right now was one she could not give. Someone else kneeled down beside Ivy and asked, in Adelaide's opinion, the stupidest question someone could possibly ask right now. "Does she look okay?" Adelaide snapped, "Go get help! A nurse or professor! Just... someone!" She continued, a hint of frantic urgency in her voice.

────────────────────"Go get help! A nurse or professor! Just... someone!" Sienna's attention was diverted from her everyday routine when she heard the plea to get help. Glancing around the Great Hall, she noticed a small group of three students all clustered around a girl who seemed to have passed out. Rolling her eyes with annoyance, she wondered how stupid some people could be. She would have thought it common knowledge that when a person passes out, you give them space. Noting Samantha's presence she became even more irritated. The last thing she wanted to do was to speak to the girl who had given her detention, but the situation seemed a dire one.

Hurrying over, she spoke to the other girls clustered around the unconscious one. "Back up, you've got to give her space." One girl asked if she should get a professor and Sienna nodded, "That would be a good idea. In the mean time, was she injured or did she just faint?" she questioned the other girls. If the girl wasn't injured, she should wake up in the next few minutes, but Sienna figured she should stick around until then to be sure the girl did not try to get back up immediately after she woke. If she did it was likely the girl would just faint again.
Standing a good distance away from the unconscious girl to give her breathing room, Sienna noticed a slip of wrinkled paper near the girl. Allowing her curiosity to get the better of her, she picked the paper up and started to read it. When she had quickly scanned through all the text she was heartbroken for the girl. Sienna knew what losing a sister was like, and it was the most devastating thing in the world. "She's going to need a lot more than a professor when she wakes up," she whispered softly, understanding why the girl passed out in the first place.────────────────────STA: 8 | EVA- 8 | STR- 1 | WIS- 5 | ARC- 4 | ACC- 9────────────────────

June was holding her first fork-full of lunch when she felt something was very wrong. She turned, and Ivy Bellamy was collapsing on the ground. Without hesitation, June dropped her fork, the clang ringing for a short while as she burst out of her seat and over to her collapsed friend. In the blink of an eye, Adelaide was by Ivy's side, crying out for help. June slid on the ground as she knelt down next to her, pushing Ivy's hair out of her face as if that would help anything. Three other girls were surrounding them, none of them whom June recognized.
At the suggestion to give Ivy some space, June felt her chest tighten, protective over the girl who had been like her sister for so long. But the Gryffindor was right, it wouldn't be good to overwhelm her if Ivy woke up. June took the unconscious girl's hand, holding it as she scooted a bit to the side, but not much far off.
Had Ivy been injured? June's face blanched. With an air of panic, June looked Ivy over. She was a bit pale, but she wasn't bleeding, and her breathing was shallow but not as if she was in pain... "It doesn't seem like she was injured... Do you know if she's been feeling ill, Adi?" To be fair, June didn't exactly know what she was doing, but Ivy didn't seem to be in any present danger. Phew.
June saw movement out of the corner of her eye as one of the girls picked up the piece of paper that Ivy was holding. "What do you think you're doing?" June shouted, squeezing Ivy's hand a bit to ground her. She felt torn, half wanting to run and get a teacher, and half wanting to stay here with her friend, as if just her presence would be helpful in some way. And right now, the latter half was winning out.

Outfit: Uniform The current commotion appeared to attract another student, which wasn't exactly a surprise since it was lunchtime, and the Great Hall was undoubtedly packed. She spared the girl a quick glance, not recognizing her but seeing the Slytherin robe, before turning her attention back to Ivy, who was unfortunately still unconscious. Please wake up. "Yes, yes, go get a professor or at least an adult. I don't care who, just the first adult you see. Go!" She would dismiss the girl with a wave of her hand, but whether the Slytherin would actually listen to Adelaide and go fetch someone or not, she didn't care, as her main focus was currently Ivy. Adelaide's hand moved under Ivy's head for support, knowing that when the girl woke up the Great Hall floor definitely was not that comfortable. Even Adelaide's knees were starting to hurt from kneeling down.
Another girl approached them, and Adelaide felt a spike of irritation. Sure, someone fainting would've surely caused a commotion, but she was feeling protective over Ivy, and she guessed the older girl wouldn't want a crowd another her when she eventually regains consciousness. Especially people she didn't know. Someone else kneeled down beside Ivy, and Adelaide was seconds away from shouting at the person before she realized that it was June. At least it was someone she and Ivy both knew, there was comfort in that. The unfamiliar girl suggested that they back up and leave Ivy some space, but Adelaide didn't want to.
Questions where coming from every direction and Adelaide frantically shook her head, addressing June as she spoke, "No.. I- I don't know." She didn't want to tell everyone about the letter, it wasn't her place, and she doubted Ivy would want it broadcasted to everyone in the entire school. Please wake up, Ivy. Merlin. Please wake up. "She just seemed really out of it and then, fainted. I don't think she injured herself though, and I don't think she's ill either. Though maybe she might be, I don't know." It annoyed Adelaide how she didn't have the answers to any of the questions being asked, 'I don't know' was the only three words in her vocabulary right now. She should have the answers, but she didn't.
June's shout surprised her and brought her out of her stupor, her head jerking up to stare at June and then in the direction of June's shout. When she saw the girl, this stranger, holding Ivy's letter. Knowing the contents in it, anger erupted in Adelaide's veins. Even without knowing the contents, who the fuck would read a stranger's letter? That was private. The actual audacity of this Gryffindor. Making sure she didn't hurt Ivy, Adelaide stood up and turned towards the girl. Snatching the letter out of her hand, she seethed, "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Her eyes narrowed as she clenched the fist that wasn't holding the letter, "Do you have any common decency? Any common sense? That is someone's personal fucking letter! You don't just read shit like that!" She hissed as her face moved closer to the girl, hoping she was quiet enough so that the Prefect - who she had realized was a Prefect right after snapping at the girl - hopefully wouldn't hear her. "How about you give her some fucking space? She's my sis- my friend, she's my friend and she needs to have someone she recognizes around her when she wakes up. Not people she doesn't even know!"
Adelaide actually didn't know if Ivy knew this girl or not, but she didn't care as her point was still very valid. The blonde was also very worried about Ivy, and she prayed that the girl would wake up soon.

In answer to her question one of the girls Sienna did not know spoke up, saying she did not believe the girl had been injured. Said girl also seemed to be incredibly irritated for whatever reason. To Sienna at least, it did not make sense why anyone would be annoyed when a girl had fainted, but to each their own she supposed. "Good. If she hasn't been injured, she should wake up any time now. When people faint, they are usually only out for a few minutes at most, unless it's serious," she explained.

As her eyes scanned the paper, which she now realized was a letter, she heard a shout from the Slytherin girl. As Sienna raised her head, ready to defend herself, the unfamiliar Ravenclaw snatched the letter out of her hand. Once the letter was out of her hands, the girl took it upon herself to scold Sienna, out of all things to do. "Well how was I supposed to know it was her letter? I saw a slip of paper lying on the ground, so I picked it up! I did plan to return it to her once I realized it belonged to her!" she shouted back. In a calmer voice she continued so only Adelaide could hear, "And I know what she's going through, better than you probably do. I've lost a sister, I know exactly how she's feeling."
"I told you all to give her space because that is what you are supposed to do when someone passes out. Do you have any experience in matters such as this? Because I do. If you continue to crowd her, when she wakes up she will get overstimulated and likely pass out again," she continued, in a cold tone. "It does not matter if you are her sister, friend, whatever. If there are too many people too close to her, she will pass out again," she repeated. If the short tempered Ravenclaw truly cared for the fainted girl, she would back up, at least a few feet so as to not overstimulate her.────────────────────STA: 8 | EVA- 8 | STR- 1 | WIS- 5 | ARC- 4 | ACC- 9────────────────────

It didn't take long for a crowd to surround the fainted girl, nor did it take long for somebody to snap at Samantha. A surprised look appeared on the brunette's face at the blond girl's rude tone towards her. Admittingly, it hadn't been the smartest question she had ever asked but that still didn't give the other the right to be so disrespectful. "Watch your tone," she warned the younger student. Where did this kid get the audacity to talk to a prefect like that?!
Even though the way the other girl had talked to her was extremely concerning, there were more important things to worry about. "Check if she is still breathing," she instructed the blond that had snapped at her. Of course, Samantha expected the unconscious girl to be breathing but it didn't hurt to check. It was better to be safe than sorry. Being a duellist for over a year now, the brunette wasn't a stranger to unconscious students. However, from those, she knew the reason why they were knocked out, and from this unknown girl she did not. Checking to see if she was breathing was a smart move and as she just liked to boss people around.
The group kept growing as a young girl kindly offered to get a professor and one of the others immediately took the offer. After that, it didn't take long for the young prefect to hear a faintly familiar voice. Siena... The stupid girl who had pushed Bubba into the lake, talked bad about Ravenclaw, and was now bossing everybody around like she was the prefect here. The worst thing was that Sienna actually said some really good things, things that the third-year student hadn't even thought about yet. "Yeah, let's give her some space," with 'her' revering to the unconscious girl as she didn't know her name. "Somebody is already getting an adult so all we can do is wait and take a step back," Samantha said, trying to gain some more control over the situation.
It seemed like the whole day was full of surprises. Samantha's focus had been on keeping the curious students dnpc that had started to gather around the little group away from the unconscious girl and she hadn't noticed Sienna reading the letter that had previously fallen to the ground. That was why the brunette was extremely surprised when one of the students started yelling at the Gryffindor and was soon followed by another. Sure, she didn't like Sienna too much herself but yelling at the girl went a little far. That was what Samantha was thinking until she realized why the others were mad. They had a great point. You shouldn't snoop around in other people's stuff and read things about their personal life. In her previous year at Hogwarts 2 students, both of who she had hated deeply, had read her diary and ignored her privacy by doing so. "Sienna!" she exclaimed in disbelief. "You can't just read other people's letters!" When the Gryffindor shared that she knew what the girl was going through as she had lost a sister herself, Samantha looked at the other girl in shock. Did Sienna really just drop that information like that?
Reducio
Once the brunette had processed the huge amount of tea that had just been spilled, she tried to gather the attention of the fighting girls. "Okay listen," she demanded loudly. "You guys can continue screaming at each other but that isn't going to help one bit. I don't think it will be fun for her," she gestured at the girl on the ground as she still didn't know her name, "to wake up only to hear every single one of you yelling about her dead sister!" Those words were followed by a dramatic eye roll from the prefect. "Also, can somebody please tell me her name? It is annoying to refer to her with 'her'. It also is disrespectful and so is reading people's letters without them knowing but not everybody here seems to care about that," Samantha started rambling.

Lost a sister? June's heart sank. No, no no no. June felt her eyes begin to water as she turned towards Adelaide, her voice hardly above a whisper. "Lillian?" Ivy's older sister hadn't been in June's life incredibly long, and she only had a small handful memories of her, but the few she had were special. But Ivy had her in her life far longer, and it still felt like Allison had just...
"She's breathing." June's voice was empty. The swirl of so many emotions in such little time made June feel checked-out, dissociated, even. She blinked back a tear as she looked up at the Ravenclaw prefect that was shouting about them shouting. "Her name is Ivy. Ivy Bellamy, she's a fourth year." June squeezed Ivy's hand again, rubbing her thumb over it, as if it would bring her comfort right now.
June's brow furrowed. Something about this whole situation just didn't feel right to her. Ivy must have just now read the letter, right? If it was delivered this morning, surely she wouldn't have waited until lunch to read it. No matter what scenario June pictured, nothing quite added up in her mind. She turned, looking at Ivy's face, still much paler than it should be. Take your time, Ivy, you're probably better off unconscious than in this shouting match.

Outfit: Uniform Disclaimer: I am not Addie and I definitely do not condone her actions in this post!Too much was happening right now, and they were very clearly starting to draw a crowd. Of course, someone fainting was quite a spectacle, but this was also a castle full of magic. Crazier things happened, and the only people who should be around Ivy right now are her and June, people she actually knows, and a responsible adult if they ever arrived. Not strangers who are just in dire need of some drama they feel the need to wiggle their way into a situation where they're not wanted, and on top of that, they start bossing everyone around as if they own the place. Adelaide was so anxious, riled up and agitated that she had even snapped at a Prefect. Granted, she didn't realize it was a Prefect until after she snapped at the girl, but still, she'd yelled at a Prefect of her own house, and didn't even bother to apologize for it. That was not going to look good on her track record. Then again, she'd already gotten detention due to her imbecile of a cousin, so it wasn't really squeaky clean anymore, even though that was not her fault.
Her hand was itching to reach for her wand in response to the bossy Gryffindor girl, but she controlled herself. For now. She'd never pulled her wand on somebody before, but it was looking more and more likely the more words that left the Gryffindor's mouth. Who even was she? She joins the group surrounding Ivy, acting so very entitled and immediately starting to boss everyone around, and then she had the audacity to read Ivy's personal letter and give a lame excuse for her reasoning. Not even an apology left the girl's lips. "Just because it was lying on the ground doesn't mean you need to read it! Did you not see the 'Dear Ivy' at the start of the letter? Or are you blind? If your name isn't fucking Ivy, and it probably isn't, then you don't read a letter that's addressed to an Ivy. It's common sense, which you are severely lacking in." Adelaide's voice raised as she continued shouting, and she should probably care that a shouting match could gather attention and possibly get her into trouble, but she didn't care about anything else right now other than protecting Ivy and putting this girl in her place. The foul language coming out of her mouth right now would put her mother in a grave if she heard her, and the Ravenclaw never usually swore, but currently her anger was beyond caring about anything else other than the burning red flame she was feeling right now.
"Do I care?" She snapped, "This isn't about you right now! There is currently someone unconscious on the floor and you're trying to make this about you?" The words were insensitive beyond belief, and she was silently glad Ivy hadn't regained consciousness at this point in time, because she's not sure how the older girl would react if she knew Adelaide had just told someone who had admitted to also losing a sister that she didn't care, and maybe Adelaide had regretted the words a tiny bit now that they were hanging in the air, but she horribly didn't want to take them back. Maybe she meant them, just a little bit. "I know for a fucking fact that Ivy wouldn't want her private news shouted all over the Great Hall, so how about you shut your mouth before I make you?" She lowered her voice as the last words came out a snarl, hoping the Prefect didn't hear her threat, because she knew that wouldn't end well. Adelaide was probably already pushing it with the swearing and screaming, she didn't need to get detention for threatening another student.
If this Gryffindor girl acted like a know-it-all for one more second, Adelaide was likely going to do something she'd end up regretting. Deep down, she saw the logic behind the girl's words, but she would never admit that, and more importantly, she felt protective over Ivy and wanted to protect and comfort the girl when she wakes up. She did briefly notice that the Slytherin girl she had previously asked to go fetch someone had indeed left to fetch someone, so hopefully the nurse or at least a professor would be coming soon, but for now, she wanted to be there for Ivy so she could wrap the older girl in a hug and attempt to pour every ounce of comfort she possibly could into it. She couldn't fix what had happened, no matter how much she wanted to, but she could hug Ivy as the girl cried and mourned, and she could be there for Ivy as she slowly heals the wounds.
With a shaky intake of breath, she glanced at June who had spoken to her, tears welling up in her eyes again at the mention of Ivy's older sister, and gave a barely perceptible nod. June was the one to check that Ivy was breathing, and answer the Prefect who had actually started to do something useful instead of just standing there and asking stupid questions. Still, when she had mentioned the dead sister, Adelaide's anger rose up again. She tried her hardest to stifle it, knowing she was not speaking to a Prefect, "I'm trying to get everyone to stop yelling about it, so stop talking about it! Ivy doesn't need every person in this goddamn castle to know about it right now!"
Adelaide was seconds away from doing something she'd definitely regret. Merlin, Ivy, please wake up soon. Please.
