2023/24 Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 8

Kaito liked to think of himself as a chill guy. This duel was not chill. Far from it as fire was flung across the stage from himself and two others. It was almost like the gods of nature had overheard the explosive start to the fight and decided to nudge each duellist to cast a spell that matched the heat. His own Incendio missed its mark on the girl being addressed by his teammate, but the two other Hufflepuffs managed to land their fiery spells on both his teammates.

He instinctively checked himself for flames or injury, but he was surprised to find that nothing had been sent his way. Luck or strategy? He couldn’t tell from the looks that the Hufflepuffs had on their faces. He was about to speak up with something to hopefully calm the situation brewing between Theo and Violet, but his teammate spoke up first and to Rowan instead of the Hufflepuff. Kaito winced at Theo’s harsh words, but he didn’t say anything in defense of Rowan. Theo was right. The lion cubs needed to get it together.

Costanza met the eyes of her fellow badgers as one shot back at the aggressive Gryffindor and the other threw out a quick pep talk. By the way things were going, this was bound to be a spicy event. While Violet and Theo’s feud was more prominent, the honey badger couldn’t help but narrow her eyes each time Kaito moved an inch. She supposed that if either of them were more outspoken, they would resemble the duo that were arguing across the piste. That, or Costanza was just making things up.

Spells were finally slung and she felt some kind of elation at the results. Minnie was able to nail Theo with some fire and Violet’s dodging tactics had partially paid off. The knockback she took did look severe, but she was still standing upright. As for Costanza, the witch surprised herself with the blast of flames that left her wand. They coated the only unmoving Gryffindor with a layer of flames. She released a little giggle at her success and then turned her gaze on Kaito. Desperate to heckle him over his terrible aim, the witch would open and close her mouth, thinking better of it. Instead, she zeroed in on her next target.

Shit. I did what I have needed to do but for they, it was to late. Seriously, too late ? I am sorry but it was only after my opponents ! It is ok, no ? Rah ! I feel a little bit weak but I am ok. I will only do the same thing and... And it will be ok, isn't it ? I just need to fight my weak like I did yesterday after a sleep of... I've just didn't slept but anyway. I'm Ok.

Violet actively dodged the two spells that were shot at her at once. While she was able to dodge Kaito's spell completely, Theo managed to hit her with the Knockback jinx. She was pushed backwards, but managed to stand straight though weak. Her gaze lingered on her opponents as she tried to decide her next action.
Violet scrunched her face as she heard Theo berate his own teammate. "Jerk", she mumbled. At that moment Violet felt lucky to have such teammates. She basically did nothing in the last round that could actually help the Hufflepuffs take down their opponents and yet was not subjected to harsh comments.

Damion was paying very close attention to what the younger studdents were doing. He didn't want to be responsible if something happened under his watch. Anyways back to the match.

Theo Vendeberg cast Flipendo on Violet Rohr which hits Violet. Kaito Foxglove tries to attack Violet Rohr however she missed. Rowan Bellegno seemed to have no luck in hitting Violet Rohr either.

Moving on to the Hufflepuff team. First of all Violet Rohr actively dodges the attacks. Costanza Jewelweed who casts Incendio at Theo Vendeberg. Minnie Duke targets Theo Vendeberg with an impaired hit Incendio only doing half the damage.

However despite actively dodging the spells, Violet Rohr falls unconscious. "STOP" Damion says as he walks to the first year student who is unconscious and takes her to the side of the Stage where Healers can take her to the Hospital Wing. Once he cleared the unconscious student he looked at the teams and said "You can all resume now." Damion could see that the Hufflepuff team had two duellers and the Gryffindor team had three. He himself had been in that situation at times. So anyone could win at this point. He was standing in the corner, waiting to see what happened next.

Theodore was not in a patient or forgiving mood. The moment he finished one knockback jinx, he’d readied a second and flung it towards Violet. To his amazement both had hit their mark, each a devastatingly brutal blow. Theo paused as he observed Violet sprawled out on the floor of the arena with a deep sense of satisfaction. It almost didn’t matter if Gryffindor lost now, he had delivered what he considered, just payback.

He was about to say something when he was suddenly met with a flurry of spells. Hot searing bolts of incendio. One ricocheted off his shoulder, while another hit him directly, making his robes smoulder. He could feel the heat intensely, threatening to burn his skin. At that moment, Damion called for a timeout and Theo used this time to madly pat his robes to put the fire out, but it was futile. “You’ll pay for that!” He shouted across towards the badgers, brandishing his wand ready to start duelling again.

Out of the corner of his eye, Kaito could see Cranky eyeing him. He laughed. She wasn’t even trying to hide it. Her mouth opened and closed and he wondered just what she wanted to say, but nothing left her lips, so the Gryffindor decided to focus on the duel instead. He didn’t really enjoy Theo’s aggressive words, but his classmate was the only one who landed a hit on their shared target, so the boy’s energy must have really been doing something to help him. The Hufflepuff went down just as Kaito processed the fact that he’d missed his shot twice in a row. Suddenly, he understood what Cranky might have been thinking. He scoffed at himself for his shoddy accuracy and met her eyes.

“Don’t even think about saying anything. I’m awful, I know,” he smiled for a second and then glanced over to Theo who was looking absolutely terrible. “Hang in there, buddy,” he muttered, more to himself than to Theo, not wanting to disrupt the lion cub’s anger that seemed to be working pretty well so far.

So much was happening and when the dust settled, Costanza couldn’t tell which team had the advantage. Her and Minnie’s spells landed again, doing enough damage to Theo to make him look like he was on the verge of collapse. Violet anticipated that she would be targeted for the second time, but dodging wasn’t enough. The honey badger winced as her teammate fell and almost dropped her wand in a panic when she didn’t get up. As Violet was removed from the stage, Costanza heard Kaito’s voice. That couldn’t be directed at her, right? But it was. She met his gaze head on, nervousness evaporating. She wouldn’t let him see her in that state.

“Glad you’re aware.” She tried to keep her voice measured and her face stone-cold, but she couldn’t stop the little grin that poked through. Kaito turned to evaluate his teammate then, so Costanza did the same. Violet may have been gone, but she and Minnie were still the picture of health. There was a possibility that they could still win this, even with one badger down.
