Magical Masquerade: The entrance
Mathias would see his girlfriend storm off. Being the unreasonable creature that she was, she was going to hold this against him until she forgot like usual. He would run his hands along his pants and his shirt. Blast his lack of fortune, he did not have the strawberry juice with him. He could stomp off after her, attempt to make some sort of public plea for mercy and probably not enjoy the remainder of the evening. His alternative was to return to his dorm and to recover a thermos from his trunk and offer it to Winnie before the night wore on.
He would see in part the chaos, Jack and his younger brother Giddy appeared to be at the heart of it. While he was completely aware of his younger brother's madness, his penchant for violence and his sociopathy, he was not aware that others were so certain of the unassuming boy. He was smaller than his contemporaries, and he maintained a juvenile persona to elicit a need to protect, a belief that he was a non-threat. Yet it seemed like everyone saw through it this evening.
Well, sucks to be him, Mathias thought to himself unaware of the dark task the hags had left in Giddy's small hands. That they had a plan to undermine death itself and that it was thwarted. That the students would now never know how close they came to a truly devastating event that would have propelled them into story and give answers to several lingering questions.
Mathias was not going to lend a hand. Someone had just shouted that Giddy had stabbed someone. The school nurse was using her attack snake to restrain his brother. The problem with fighting adults is that they are not only stronger but they have a station of authority. The only outcome to this would be his expulsion from the school and likely injury. He was unlikely going to be able to face off against an adult but even if he somehow could, he would be shipped back off the Mahoutokoro or perhaps someplace worse once his father heard about the incident.
So he was not going to participate in the fight. He was going to leave, letting Winnie stew in the ball and leaving his brother to fail.

Moderation PostInitiative rolls
ReducioHow was initiative calculated?
Initiative rolls were calculated by taking either Sta, Eva or Acc (whichever is highest) and adding it to a 1d20. This has been done so that the action order was not completely based on luck and instead had a foundation on your character's skills. Critical failures or Success were not possible for these rolls.
Initiative turn order for people who required rolls. Those who performed an action which didn’t require a roll, your initiative was calculated differently. (Where I thought made sense basically.)

Some extra notes
Reducio
Best to read the post first before this. If you are confused by something read this:
Descriptive and interesting writing wasn’t really possible given how long it took to manage, roll and write this. So the descriptions are very utilitarian. It is up to individual posters to flesh out the actions and add the detail.
There was some debate over whether Pericles should still be affected by 'lovely creature' as he is patially blind and probably can't even see Aly. For Simplicity's sake I am still going to apply it because otherwise I will need to keep track of who can see who through the entire event.
Gideon's stabbing was supposed to be concealed. I gave Astra disadvantage last round on her tackle to balance this. To remain consistent, anyone interacting with Gideon this round also got disadvantage. (Apart from Astra)
Percival Rainwood walked onto the pitch this round who has terrible presence, however It will not count this round. (And wont count unless he interacts with the commotion, for simplicity sake.)
A couple of students cast Protego this round with the intent of shielding others from harm. On the duelling spell list it states that Protego can only be used to shield yourself. The only way to save someone else from harm is to bodyblock. This round and in future rounds for this thread, you may state you are bodyblocking and casting protego as ONE action. You still have to roll for both though, so it's balanced. This was the only way I could think of to be able to save someone else from harm using protego and keep it fair.
How I am handling the snake and parselmouth mechanics here should not be taken as precedent. I have no clue what the precedent is.
Fumos on the duelling spell list says 3 ‘random’ targets. It’s not really appropriate for this format. I think for the purpose of this. The spell will affect an area around Gideon and Finnegan. Affecting them, the snake and Ava. They will suffer the accuracy penalty, and anyone attempting to hit them will suffer the accuracy penalty. (So to be clear, you can still target them. They aren’t invisible. But you have penalties)
Even more notes:
It is more than possible that I will get things wrong. This is my first time moderating. Please let me know if I miss your action or do something incorrectly.
Please be very specific about your action at the bottom of your post. Anything done in the bulk of your text won't be considered unless it is mentioned in the action section. This is to avoid confusion.
There was another issue where some people thought accuracy would be used to determine tackles. I apologize for not making this clear beforehand, but I am now. All physical altercations will be done with strength vs evasion. This is for simplicity's sake. Of course it is slightly contextual, if you are throwing a ball at someone it will use accuracy. If you are unsure, DM me and I'll tell you what your action would use, but as a rule of thumb, strength for physical fighting and tackles.
Second Round
Finnegan gasped harshly as if all the air had suddenly been sucked out of his lungs. He found himself screaming and clung on to Gideon, desperately trying to remain standing. The second year pushed his body up against the golden haired boy so the knife couldn’t be removed easily.
Gideon meanwhile, seemed more than happy to remain in the embrace and subtly pushed the knife in deeper. He put on a convincing expression of being horrified and shouted “That girl, attempted to kill us!” referring to the young Slytherin Astra, who had a moment before collided with the scuffle. Perhaps it had been Astra who plunged the knife in? Could anyone be certain? Most students had been distracted by Jack’s outburst and the knife was hidden from view. The young Syltherin Astra had run into the two boys and now one of them was screaming.
When Zophyr Qethnis arrived on scene, she had little more information to deduce what happened. Two boys stood clutching each other, a teddy bear pressed between them and one of them was screaming. Zephyr would suddenly feel the sleeve on her dress being tugged and next to her stood Scout Fu-Hai, a first year Gryffindor asking “What the hell is going on?”
Another first year Syltherin Elisa Shakestra ran up to Astra as she lay on the ground with great concern. She knelt beside her asking if she was hurt. Astra spoke up in her own defence, looking towards Gideon. “You filthy liar! Your hand guided the blade and you will pay for your sin!”

A short distance away, Jack was suspended around six feet in the air. His look of fury and rage slowly faded from his face and then without warning, his body shifted, transforming into his animagus form. A large roosevelt Elk. The entire training field would suddenly be deafened by a blisteringly loud Elk call as its four legged body continued thrashing around. With the transformation Jack had also gained around 300 kg in weight, which would be felt most by Meenauh Silmataurea as she attempted to maintain her Levioso.

Spell maintained
Any normal student may have faulted or become overwhelmed by the sheer weight and size of the target they were levitating. However, Meenauh was an exceptionally powerful witch. She maintained the spell masterfully even through Jack’s transformation.
Rebecca Lark approached Finn and Gideon with a look of concern. She could tell that Finn was hurting badly, but the damage was hidden from view. Once up close it became clear from the blood on Finnegan’s tunic the wound was around his stomach, hidden by a teddy bear pressed between the boys. Her attempts to reason with the two had failed as both of them remained grappled together. She resorted to placing her hands on the bear and pulled in an attempt to free it.

After a hearty few tugs, the bear remained trapped. Gideon was clutching it tightly and refused to give it up easily.
Meanwhile, Pericles had been dragged away from the danger by Evelynn who remained close to him, wand in hand, ready to cast Protego at a moment's notice. Pericles was worse for wear, he shakily took out his wand and slurred the incantation for the bandaging charm targeting his profusely bleeding eye socket.

Magical bandages protruded from the end of his wand and wrapped around his head, covering the damaged eye socket and stopping the bleeding.
Piérre Marchonné had been the closest to Jack when he fumbled his wand and was easily able to locate the cherry wood stick on the grass. Rather gruesomely, it was coated with a thin layer of Pericle’s blood which was dripping from the shaft as he picked it up.
Piérre, Pericles, Evelynn and Xailah Alptraum all stood within a relatively close distance of each other and would observe as Vladimir Athanatos jumped down into the small pit created by Jack’s digging. He had spotted something in the dirt and gripped it tightly with his hands.

Whatever the object was, it was lodged into the ground firmly. Vladimir would really have to put his back into it to have any chance of retrieving the item. Eventually it came loose and without much fanfare, Vlad lifted a human skull from the ground.
Dusana Sabo seemed to be the only adult present and torn between subduing the wild Jack or helping the screaming Finnegan. She let her snake Asclepius down to the floor and hissed to it in parseltongue, giving the order to bind Gideon. She then turned with her wand drawn and attempted to cast Orbis on Jack while he was levitating.

Jack (in his elk form) would get sucked towards the ground, effectively ending Meenauh’s levitation spell. All four of his Elk hooves would be drilled into the ground and he would become partially submerged, unable to move.
At the exact same moment Asclepius the serpent had reached his target. Coiling up, the snake struck at Gideon’s leg and wrapped around him in an attempt to bind the third year.

Seeing Jack in pain and having potentially dangerous spells cast on him was too much for Dealla Prince. She took it upon herself to try and shield the now grounded Elk from harm, casting protego with a quick flick of her wand, creating a shield around her body. It was a questionable decision for sure, but Dealla prepared to put herself in harm's way.

A white light shone from the end of her wand like a lightning bolt, streaking across the pitch. It would have hit its target for certain if Dealla hadn’t jumped in the way suddenly, her Protego protecting her and Jack from harm. The spell ricocheted off the shield in a random direction, with a loud crack which sent sparks into the air. The spell projectile struck a first year student named Scout Fu-Hai who had been innocently asking Zophyr what was happening. Her body would suddenly go stiff and then collapse to the floor.
(Every round of duration a Strength Check is performed to attempt breaking out of the effect. The DC to break out of the spell is 10 + 1 for every 5 points in the caster's Arcane Power.)

Critical failure!
Looking like a bootleg firework, the tip of Astra’s wand began to fizzle and smoke, like a fuse. Instead of shooting sparks straight up into the air, the periculum ‘firework’ exploded at ground level sending red burning sparks in every direction. (This will not hurt anyone, but everyone on the pitch will suffer for the next round: –5 Accuracy)
Ava Winchect, a young broom racer, heard Finn’s scream and decided to rush to his aid. She produced her wand and cast the Smokescreen Spell Fumos.

The spell shrouded Finn, Gideon, Asclepius and Ava in a thick layer of magical smoke. From the outside, the silhouettes of figures could still be made out, however with vision drastically reduced, it was difficult to decipher what was happening in there. (Everyone in the smoke has -5 accuracy. Everyone outside the smoke has -5 accuracy when attempting to hit someone inside the smoke.)
Theo Vendeberg, a small first year Gryffindor had become panicked and was wildly shouting for a professor. Before he realised another first year had already attempted it, he pulled out his own wand, holding it straight up in the air and shouted “Periculum!”
DC 6 (8)

Theo’s wisdom:
[d20 : 13] + 10
In the end, the result was: 23
Success!
A red orb shot up from Theo’s wand straight into the sky. Way above the pitch it exploded like a firework, its red sparks slowly descending like flares.
To end the round Johannes Sauer enters the pitch and makes his way over to Valentin and Romeo.
The TLDR
Reducio
- Finnegan and Gideon are still holding eachother, the knife is still concealed by a plush-bear and inside Finn’s gut.
Gideon is accusing Astra of being the attacker.
Dusana’s snake has latched on to Gideon and is constricting him.
Rebecca failed to pull the bear from between the two boys.
Jack turned into his animagus form, an Elk.
Jack had Orbis cast on him by Dusana and is now stuck in the earth, partially submerged.
Aly cast full body bind spell on Jack, but Dealla body blocked it. The spell ricocheted off her protego and hit Scout Fu-Hai.
Piérre picked up Jack’s wand.
Pericles bandaged his eye with Ferula.
Vladimir Athanatos pulled a human skull from the ground where Jack had been digging.
Astra critical failed a cast of Periculum and exploded sparks all over the training field (Everyone takes -5 acc next turn.)
Theo cast Periculum into the air successfully.
Ava cast Fumos, shrouding herself, Gideon, Finnegan and Asclepius in magical smoke.

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
🅵 I N N E G A Nxx🅲 O N N O R
xxxGRYFFINDOR SECOND YEAR THE MASKED BALL
Magical Masquerade 13th of April 2024"The blade itself incites deeds of violence"
xx Sharp pain brought @Gideon Athanatos into focus, the blonde boy was shocked pale with the horror that had befallen them and the blade's groove overflowed with blood despite the Hufflepuff's best attempts to stop the bleeding. While he clung to Gideon, the blonde boy separated them just enough for Finnegan to look down at his abdomen. His wide-eyed shock matched Gideon's whose quavering voice and startled look spun a convincing tale.
Get away from him!" a girl's voice sounded @Astra Norrick.
He knew that voice, she'd screeched at him before, that horrible day in the stands. His gaze found her, on the ground, scrambling up, reaching for her wand, aiming it at him. She wanted to get back at him for the tongue-tying spell he'd cast on her and like so often was the case with Slytherins, she had escalated ten times over.
"Astra, what is wrong with you? I know we're all upset about Quidditch, but this is not an okay way to handle it." had been the understatement of the year by Bex Lark.
The young Hufflepuff was right, it was her! She wanted Gideon gone, she wanted him to bleed out like a pig at slaughter.
The blade was at an angle.
The girl had barreled into them at an angle.
Astra, he heard Bex call her. Astra the killer, obviously guilty and now being helped by no one else than well-known knife enthusiast, @Ava Winchect. Perhaps Ava had taught Astra how to do it, perhaps they'd been scheming this moment for days.
Astra was shaking and crying, clearly distressed by her own failure. Her revenge foiled by a brave young Hufflepuff whose friendly embrace had stopped her from jamming the knife up to the hilt into his belly. Now only her blubbering stopped her from casting a spell to finish what she'd started.
Finnegan felt immense gratitude toward the blonde Hufflepuff when the boy called for help as sheer shock prevented him from crying out himself.
"HELP! HELP! That girl attempted to kill us!"
Rebecca, where was Rebecca? Where was his friend? Why was she looking after that vile, loathsome Slytherin girl? Why wasn't she helping him?
No sooner than he thought it, the frazzled girl turned her attention toward him, but she didn't understand, hadn't noticed the real threat. She tried to worm herself between them, her words an incomprehensible stream rushing past him like the wind. Why was she trying to grab the Hufflepuff's blood-splattered teddy bear? The danger was right behind her, on the ground! He tried to tell her, but his voice caught in his throat, he could barely muster the strength to remain standing.
Astra and Ava, the devious Slytherins out for blood, made use of the opportunity afforded to them. A large snake sprung at the young Hufflepuff's leg, and who else but a Slytherin would employ such a vicious creature? That wasn't enough though, one of the girls sent blinding sparks flying everywhere while the other cast a smokescreen to add to the confusion.
His only comfort in the chaos was Gideon, the boy who had tried to shield him from harm but now struggled to protect himself against the snake. By the time he'd have his wand out, if he even a managed an incantation, the poor blonde boy who surely have been killed already.
There was only one thing he could do to help.
With all his might he yanked out the knife and attempted to stab the snake @Dusana Sabo with it.
HP: 700/1000, still bleeding, and about to gush all over ya'll
Action: Rescuing the storyHelping poor Gideon by taking out the knife and attempting to attack Asclepius with it. (I am assuming that taking out the knife is a "free action" since it's extremely easy - if painful - for Finn to do in this situation considering his proximity to it. If not then discard taking out the knife and make it Finnegan attempting to get the snake off Gideon with his bare hands). @Theo Vendeberg. Theo you are free to owl me regarding this thread if it's needed. You can also DM me on discord but since I've left the main HIO discord I won't be checking there often.
OOC explanation: Finn has concluded that Ava and Astra are attempting to kill him and Gideon. He puts the blame mainly on Astra who, due to their unfriendly encounter earlier, he believes to have incentive against him. This innocent looking Hufflepuff boy however, does not. The blade being stuck in at an angle - as described in Theo's previous moderation post - coincides with Astra barreling in from his side. Lastly, he considers her behavior (pointing her wand at him) further proof that she is trying to attack. All of that combined with standing next to Ava the infamous cutlery user makes Astra (and Ava) extremely suspect to Finn. Oh, and both their spells seeming to be intending to obfuscate the scene make both of them even more suspect.
Rebecca, having rocks for a brain, is trying to help but also clearly misunderstanding the situation!
TLDR; Gideon is a hero!
Notes: Apologies for the lack of flavor in this post. There is so much going on that a bare-bones reply is all I could manage. In fact, it did exactly what she'd hoped, and she was able to observe a little better. Though perhaps now she hoped that wasn't the case. She'd thought it had been crazy enough, with one guy basically possessed and having stabbed out another's eye. But it didn't stop there. As Zophyr tried to get closer to said victim Peri, an older year took him away Eve, and the Uagadou student was left looking at two boys clutching each other. Finn and Gideon

Except it seemed like more than that... one boy had screamed earlier, Zophyr remembered, and the other one yelled that a nearby girl Astra tried to kill the two of them. This was just more confusing. Wasn't one attempt at stabbing enough?
It was then that Zophyr noticed the teddy bear in between the two boys, because a younger girl was struggling and failing to take it away. But it was enough for the second year to see the blood, rather well hidden, on the younger boy's shirt. What on-
Zophyr felt something tug at her dragon wing sleeve, and spun around, fearful that someone was attempting to take her life too. But no - it was a younger, fearful-looking student, asking what was going on. "I-" No, get ahold of yourself, Zophyr, English. "I don't know." Was that a lie? Not really, though partly, because she was beginning to try and piece things together. But she didn't have time to explain, there was blood on two different boys. She needed to do something about it, she couldn't just stand here and talk to someone, this was the wrong time-
Zophyr had to spin around again to see a giant horse with tree-looking horns floating in the air, and it was almost enough to make her scream again. Jack It wasn't long before the creature was suddenly sucked down and into the earth, which was arguably more terrifying than it floating. Another turn of Zophyr's head found a snake holding down the golden-haired boy from earlier Gideon again, and an older guy with something white in his hand Vlad, but Zophyr couldn't tell what it was because suddenly the kid who'd approached her, asking what was happening, was stiff as a board and had fallen to the ground.
For the third time in only five minutes, the second-year wanted to scream, but more out of frustration than fear. Couldn't everyone just - stop, for a second, and give her a second to breathe?? But no, now there was something else to do. "Ah, shit." It wasn't fair of whomever had cast the spell to aim it at someone who'd only just got here and had no idea what was happening. Zophyr, despite herself, felt bad, and decided that you know what, she could figure out everything else after. She pulled out her wand. "Finite Incantatem!"

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
Interacting: @Evelynn Decipio, @Alec Mason, @Piérre Marchonné & @Dealla Prince
Mentioning: Aly, Finn, Theo, Gideon, Jack, Meenauh, Dusana, Becca
┏ ┓ Through the din of his pulse throbbing in his eardrums, Pericles could hear the chaos unfolding, the shouts and spells turning the area into a warzone. He was dimly aware of someone screaming in pain (Finnegan), someone thankfully calling a professor nearer (Theo), and another crying out accusations of murder (Gideon). The initial threat (Jack) was thoroughly neutralized: Meenauh levitated him, Nurse Sabo was burying him in the dirt, and Aly was trying to paralyze him. All he could do was cling to Evelynn while trying not to pass out from the pain. This had never been his role. He was never the victim, always the aider, on the frontline as a serviceman battling darkness and protecting his peers. Evidently, his many triumphs had gotten to his head. Pericles had felt virtually untouchable with Aly and Eve on his arms and a small apothecary hidden in his coat. It had been a fool mistake to step off on his own, believing he was preserving them as if he would suffer no repercussion himself. Before being half blinded by Jack, he had well and truly been blinded by arrogance.
Evelynn's anguished shriek would echo in his nightmares. This whole night was a nightmare. The moment was bitterly reminiscent of a muggle movie he'd been traumatized by as a kid; his folks had friends who hosted annual showings of old films every October. While he hadn't had the chance to attend since starting school, there was one in particular that came to mind in the midst of it all. For a moment his life seemed to parallel the silent film A Trip to the Moon. As a little boy, he'd been deeply disturbed over the scene where the moon man's eye suddenly had a rocket lodged in it. The outdated transition was so abrupt that it startled him. The wand came too quickly. He'd hated the way an awful drippy effect was added to the actor's mask. Something wet drenched his hand, oozing along his mask and trickling down his neck. Peri had pulled his father's hand to hide his eyes. Eve was trying to see it. She was trying to take his mask off. He was going to disgust her.
The Gemini's mind was divided: he selflessly didn't want to be the one to traumatize others with his injury, yet selfishly didn't want them to see the staggering embarrassment of his self-perceived failure. He grappled with the deeply conflicting desire to (for once in his life) be the one who was helped and comforted, and the misguided shame over needing to be helped at all. "We have to take it off." Mortification surged through him at the sensation of her fingertips meeting the sullied mask. With reflexive dexterity, Pericles seized her wrist, begging "Don't." She pleaded to let her look, but he couldn't bear to seen, not like this. The whole "first man down" role shattered that pristine, princely persona the young heir perpetually tried to sustain. His parents always fawned over that face, no matter how strange his features were. Starry freckles, silver eyes, just like his mother... Morrigan, they were going to be so disappointed. Surely Eve already was. The last thing he wanted was to be seen by her. But then: "I thought we were supposed to be in this together?" Her words were like a stab to the gut (no offense Finn). Pericles had been patiently yet doggedly trying to coax her back out of her shell, to treat her with the respect her power deserved, as well as the gentleness required when handling a wounded heart. Grief gripped him as he feared obliterating all the progress she'd made in a single shit night. Injury finally secure behind a bandage, his free hand reached to fold over hers, only to jerk away when he saw the sickening blend of clear and crimson fluids on his fingers. Pericles shakily dragged his hand along the fabric of his pristine coat. Their tailor was going to be pissed. "Why will you not let me help you...." Yet she already was helping him by being near, not out of pity, superiority, happenstance or obligation. She did it because they were a team, and she was his friend. He swallowed hard, remaining eye blinking at reactionary pain tears. "Just stay." Pericles slid his grasp from her wrist to her hand and squeezed. One side of his coat was held open, revealing a column of potion vials holstered in the starry lining. "There's a... Calming Draught, somewhere. I can't...." See.
Duelling had desensitized him to magic, but there was a jarring realness to being physically attacked, something primally morbid which numbed the thoughts. An analytical approach to life was traded for fight or flight instincts raging at him to take action. Blessedly, he was not alone, with others operating in his place. "Keep him safe!" Aly had gone to enact revenge on his behalf, and as much as he didn't want her in the heart of danger, he had to trust she could handle herself. "Eevee... get him out of here." The unmistakable voice of Piérre. Peri blearily blinked around, his vision feeling fuzzy as he squinted at the half-mask. He hadn't even begun to process the image of a jester jumping between him and Jack, but it all made sense now. It was the Jester. The haunting scream of an elk filled him with dread, and Pericles had enough sense left to hoarsely beseech: "Pi, watch over Aly for me." He glanced towards the commotion in time to see Dealla, who he often had the pleasure of sharing a braincell with, had taken over the original objective: finding out what the hell happened to Jack Warren. Peri felt the urge to have her see whatever Jack was after before it was gone, that this loss wouldn't all be for nothing, but also felt the fear that it would wind up being something that would get her cursed. With Vlad already in the hole, all he could do was try to get her attention, pointing where Warren had been digging as he mustered his strength and shouted "Dee, Jack found something."
Alec's hand on his arm had him tilting his head to see him with one good eye. “How bad is it?” Pericles balked. "I-" his voice came thick and trembling "- I don't know." He didn't want to now, either. The Ravenclaw had been considering every other issue besides his own- his parents, the tailor, Eve, Aly, Jack, the hole in the ground- anything to get his mind off of the state his eye was in. Adrenaline was raging through him, perhaps the only thing preventing him from falling unconscious or hurling. “I- er If you move your hand maybe I could try to cast something else to help.” Pericles removed his mask with some effort, revealing his handiwork. The bandages he'd conjured over his eye already sported a dark red dot blooming from the center. Something to lessen the pain would be worth it, but there was still so much going on, and as far as he was concerned, the danger had just begun. Becca. Where was Becca? They were supposed to watch out for her, and he heard screaming from the boy he'd left her with. "Can you find my friend for me please? First-year Becca Lark." He pointed Alec in her direction, and incidentally, that of Finn, the snake, and Gideon.
Pericles couldn't see the first-years on account of Ava's smokescreen. He understood her intention; he remembered a particular situation where he, as a helpless first year, had done one of the few things he could: crate a cover to escape under. Except now they had experienced casters around, and all the smoke would do now was prevent them from helping others, or worse, enable whatever "attempted murderer" was around to do more damage. Pericles wasn't in his righ mind, but he had cast Ventus at least a hundred times now. It was one of his favorite spells. He pointed his wand, muttered the incantation, and conjured the image of a gentle breeze soft enough not to harm those in the smoke, but persistent enough to blow it away.┗ ┛ Action: Casting Ventus on Ava's Fumos

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
Ernest smiled at the girl, happy to finally be in the presence of the person he had been owling these past couple of months. He knew that there was a game going on but he wanted to be close to her for just a bit longer, know more about her. Though at her mention of the key, Ernest figured he could put that to the back of his mind for now, so she could have her fun.
He heard that they had got into the ball, and felt excited to be able to go to the dance with her. “Well, why don’t we join the ball?” He said, smiling as he held out his hand. Once hers were in his, he led her to where the most commotion was coming from; though as he pushed through the crowd, he knew that was the wrong decision to make.
First, the commotion that once seemed fun and exciting, changed to panic and scared as he got closer. Someone had tried to kill someone? A girl, with bright hair and dark eyes, is being pointed at as the one to do it. As curious as he was about that, nothing sent a shock wave down his spine like seeing bright blonde hair he knew so well being near her. Elisa. She was close to both that girl and the bleeding body of a boy. “Elisa!” He hollered, pulling his date along as he rushed to her. He left Willow’s hand go to be by Elisa, fighting to pull her away from the other girl.
“What’s happening, whats-” He asked, looking around as he spotted another injured boy, what had happened? There was a boy suspended in the air, that suddenly became an elk thrashing around in the air. Then just as suddenly he fell. “Elisa, we need to go,” He said, staring still at the commotion, “It’s not safe, we need- You need to be somewhere safe.”Reducio

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
Interacting with @Finnegan Connor @Gideon Athanatos @Ava Winchect @Dusana Sabo
The chaos and the violence was all too much for the young first year. Theo’s heart was pounding, his hands shaking, his ears ringing. Never before in his life had he experienced such trauma. A first hand witness to a young lad, not much older than him, having his eye stabbed out. The picture was already ingrained in the Gryffindors brain and would stay with him for years. He watched as the red sparks shot up from his wand, unable to take his eyes off them. Another first year had attempted the same thing as him, but the sparks had zipped all over the training field. When Theo looked back down at the carnage he had assumed it was his spell that had misfired.
He finally lowered his wand and started moving. Where? He did not know or care. As long as it was away from the boy with murderous intent. He turned on his heels and ran without taking in his surroundings. He suddenly heard a loud hiss and fell backwards onto the grass in fright. A large snake slithered passed him only a few feet away, not baring him any mind. The serpent seemed focussed and moved deliberately as if on a mission. Theodore was terrified of snakes. A very unfortunate phobia for a wizard to have given their prevalence in the magical world. The snake in question hadn’t even glanced at Theo, but the boy was already pointing his wand at it threateningly as it glided passed. Theo’s gaze became transfixed on the animal, as if his other worries no longer mattered. The fact it may have been the nurse’s pet hadn’t even crossed his mind. At that moment, all he saw was a vicious wild animal.
The monstrous serpent seemed to be heading straight for a couple of boys having a scuffle of some kind. Gideon and Finnegan had their arms around each other and both of them seemed to be in distress. Theo completely misunderstood the situation, he peered over and believed their terrified looks were due to the incoming snake. He would certainly be freaking out if he was in their shoes. The Snake suddenly leapt up from the floor and coiled around Gideon’s leg, the sight making Theo jump to his feet in action. He had to help them. He needed to put his fear aside and do the heroic thing. He was a Gryffindor after all.
He drew his wand once more and ran towards Asclepius in an impulsive decision to try and be a hero. At that moment, the air was filled with magical smoke conjured by Ava and Theo found himself running into the cloud. “D-D-Don’t worry, I’ll get it off you!” Theo stammered at Gideon. He noticed very quickly that hitting the snake accurately with a spell was going to be a challenge. Not only from the smoke, but how entwined the serpent was with Gideon’s body. “Just, stay still I’ll uh- I’ll-” He didn’t finish his sentence. Perhaps blinded by fear, the possibility of accidentally hitting Gideon was a risk he was willing to take. The boy was tracking Asclepius’s head with his wand from a few feet back. At the moment he thought he might be able to land a direct hit he brought his forward with a flick. “Flipendo!”

Magical Masquerade: The entrance

Though her spellwork had certainly improved in recent years and her aim was true, Aly watched in horror as her well-cast Full Body-Bind Curse sailed through the air towards Jack, only to be deflected at the last possible second by the shimmering invisible protection of a Protego and ricochet off into the crowd somewhere. Oh, Merlin, I hope that didn't hit anyone! Her green gaze darted about to find the source of the Shield Charm, expecting to find some confused, half-wit first-year attempting at being brave, or a professor determined to guard the wrong student from harm, but instead of either of those, Aly's eyes landed upon a very familiar cherrywood wand from which the transparent barrier seemed to have sprouted. A wand attached to a hand attached to an arm attached to a body, upon which a very familiar dress lay and a very familiar head sat. The fifth-year Ravenclaw girl would know that dress and that head and that wand anywhere - after all, she'd just gotten ready with their owner in the Booted dormitories less than an hour before.
So it seemed, for all her late-night cries having mostly ended, that Dee Prince had not quite gotten over Jack Warren. At least, that was the conclusion Aly reached at seeing her best friend protect the boy who'd broken said best friend's heart. What in the actual bloody hell...
Before she could chew Dee out for anything, though the tide of anger and frustration and confusion was rising in her star-studded chest, it first occurred to her that she should check that her spell hadn't hit anyone. She whirled around to check the scene of the ball, green gaze finally settling on a small likely first-year in some sort of costume outfit Aly didn't quite recognise, though she did recognise the way the young girl's arms and legs had snapped together to form a rigid board of a body. Her rage beginning to ebb, Aly took a half-step in the girl's direction - yelling at Dee for her absolute descent into insanity would have to wait until she could fix her mistake - but then a nearby girl in an admittedly quite well-made dragon costume stepped close to her and drew her wand, drawing a shield-like crest shape with it, and Aly knew that to be the wand movement for the General Counter-Spell. All right, so someone else had that covered. Making a note of the first-year's outfit so that she could track the kid down later and apologise, perhaps buy her a sweet treat from Hogsmeade to make up for it, Aly surveyed the rest of the ball, mostly searching for her sun and moon.
She found them nearby, bandages wrapped around Peri's face and obscuring a good chunk of it; Aly winced at the blood-splotched sight, already wondering how the hell he'd get the red out of his outfit and hair. Luckily, a different shade of red was taking care of him - feeding him some potion that Aly assumed to be some sort of healing draught, plus pulling out a broomstick from seemingly nowhere. (Holy hippogriffs, how big are her pockets?) If Evelynn glanced her way, Aly would give her a single, solemn nod. Normally, the Ravenclaw would have taken care of her own herself, but it seemed that her new lioness pal had it quite in the bag. She could already tell that the lovely redhead was going to be quite a powerful ally, indeed. Her worry and fear for Pericles started to fade away, replaced once again by the shock and incense that Dee could dare go so far as to protect Jack. He hadn't done the same for her, now, had he? Aly was beginning to realise that she could hold a grudge longer than a great many of her friends, but even this was pushing it.
She whirled on her heel, fluffy navy skirts twirling and galaxies swirling around her waist and legs, and stormed over to her best friend. The pink flush on her face perhaps might have been taken by passers-by as an embarrassed blush if it hadn't been for the furious furrow of her brows, temper glistening like fire in her eyes. "Dealla Carolina Prince," she snapped, almost reminiscent of her mother in that moment, "what in the name of Merlin's bloody bloomers are you doing? He just stabbed Peri, and beyond that, have you forgotten last year entirely? That boy deserves none of your protection, and you casting that spell just made me hex a first-year! You know what - give me that!" And she snatched at Dee's wand, attempting to disarm her best mate the manual way, completely ignoring the fact that a human skull had just been pulled out of the ground nearby. You know, like fifteen-year-old girls tend to do.

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
april 13th, 2024 saturday, afternoonwc: 400 dhampir | sensitive to sunlightinteracting with: Zophyr Qethnis | @Mahlioz Evethisawe mentioning: @Aly Salinger & everything elseScout was almost ten -thousand percent sure that she was out of the way of the chaos that was occurring. She wasn't near any of the violent actions that were being taken, and she most definitely wasn't partaking in them! On the innocence scale of everything that was going on today (minus the part where she definitely almost skipped this whole masquerade thing), she was at 99! Maybe closer to a 95, but close enough!
In the five or so minutes that had passed since she walked into this hell, and then when she had asked the student in the dragon costume Zophyr what was going on, more and more was happening. A boy had turned into a deer Jack, a snake is constricting another boy- there was a lot going on for someone who had just arrived.
"Maybe we should-"
Her voice was cut short by the very sudden feeling of her body tightening together. Her body slammed into the ground and ugh, that really hurt her head. A question of 'Man, I really hope I don't have a concussion!' danced in her mind, but there really wasn't a point in worrying about something that could (probably) be fixed by magic when there was like... stabbings going on, and spells being casted like crazy.
It took her a minute to realize what had actually happened. Though she wasn't paying attention (given how she definitely should've been able to see a spell fly her way), someone had probably tried to cast the body-binding spell on someone else (probably the aforementioned Mister Stabby (1 & 2)), and then missed and hit her instead. Or, at least she hoped that was the case. There wasn't anyone in particular Scout could imagine actually trying to hurt her. Uh... well, maybe that one girl she upset back at the beginning of the year... but no, that was way too niche of an incident!
But, she was kind of stuck on the ground so maybe it would be a good idea to do something like struggle. Scout had never been particularly used to the feeling of being weak (seeing how strong her dad was, it gave her the idea that she was similar), but this sucked! She tried to wiggle out but, man, whoever casted that spell knew what they were doing!
Oh, but the dragon-dressed student casted something on her! She was marginally unfamiliar with how most spells worked, but she assumed that dragon-friend didn't have bad intentions... hopefully. If only she wasn't paralyzed on the ground, she'd definitely say thank you.action: struggling against the full body-bind curse
