The grand wooden gates parted to reveal a vast glen embraced by flourishing deciduous trees, all blooming in the full splendour of spring. Apple trees laden with tempting fruit, cherry blossoms painting the air with vibrant pink hues, crepe myrtle and magnolia trees bursting forth with delicate white and pink blooms. The scene unfolded in a kaleidoscope of brilliant and joyful colours, a breathtaking spectacle of nature's beauty. The newly conjured trees formed an oval enclosure, seemingly grown overnight by magic. They stood tall, creating a natural barrier that shielded the area from view, obscuring any glimpse of the nearby castle or practice pitch.

At the heart of it all lay a spacious dance floor, surrounded by numerous wicker tables and chairs with pristine white cushions and tablecloths. The gleaming cutlery was meticulously arranged, inviting guests to take their seats and partake in the festivities.

Even further aft awaited tables overflowing with delectable treats. The drinks station exuded a fruity charm, perfectly complementing the springtime ambiance. Strawberry ginger faux-jito, berry spritzer, Italian cream soda, sparkling cucumber limeade and strawberry yakult tea refresher. The many bottles and punch bowls followed up by more traditional wizard favourites pumpkin juice and gillywater.

As for the food spread, it boasted a diverse array of delights. Platters of sandwiches, cheese, and meats filled the tables, alongside elegant offerings like melon and prosciutto, Greek-inspired antipasto, and fresh fruit paired with creamy ricotta blends, granola, and drizzled with wildflower honey. Traditional salads, boiled potatoes, and an assortment of cold party favourites completed the tempting spread.

Before entering, each student passed through a Loire archway entwined with an ivy garland. On the opposite side stood a repurposed sandwich board, welcoming them with a note that read:

Welcome to our grand masquerade,
In masks, your entrance must be made.
No mask, no entry, we decree,
But fret not, spare masks we've got plenty.

An array of animal masks, enchanted by the levitation charm, hovered gracefully in the air. Foxes, wolves, badgers, rabbits, deer, mice, hedgehogs, and a plethora of others awaited the guests' selection.

Entering the massive doors of the ballroom, it was adorned with lavish decorations and plenty of space for practically the entire school. The smell of food immediately hit Anthony like a punch to the face. He was delighted for he had not eaten that day in preparation for the feast tonight, Perhaps he may need to rethink that strategy for next time.

The beautiful archway adorned in all of it's glory with ivy garland greeted him as he entered the massive hall. Anthony also noticed the variety of masks that floated in the hall, "Oh, shoot. I forgot my mask!" He thought as he entered the hall, "Perhaps I could barrow one from the air." He thought as he plucked out of the air a peculiar looking mask, it had a pointed front almost resembling a beak with dark blue and white colors with silver lining running along all the edges. "A Raven! Perfect!" He said, thankful for this useful spring of luck.

He was short for his age and even shorter in front of all the other older students. He didn't mind though. For it allowed him to slip away from the crowd unnoticed, he heated towards the table adorned with an endless amount of delectable treats. With his mask on, he grabbed a plate and began to serve up bites of snacks, trying not to look rushed for he was so hungry. He served himself some of the prosciutto and chesses and crackers, as well as some delightful looking sandwiches which had been there. As he was serving himself some food he looked around the ballroom. Students were just arriving and started socializing, Anthony felt he should to but couldn't think on an empty stomach and decided to at least eat first...

As Yasha made his way into the ball, there was still a fair bit of a crowd and some people were still accidentally bumping into each other to get inside. A herd of cattle in formal wear would have maneuvered through a gate significantly better than this gaggle of glittering teenagers. As much as he tried to avoid touching anyone and tried to keep himself out of the way of the crowd by sticking close to the wall of the entrance to the quidditch pitch, he ended up with a girl bumping into his right elbow.

Partially from quidditch reflexes, partially from generally being more sensitive about that side because he couldn't actually see anything on it, and partially from the protectiveness born out of having a large amount of cousins younger then himself, once Yasha felt the girl brush against his elbow, he instinctively lifted his arm and gently moved her in front of himself, making a barrier around her with his arm and the wall. He made sure to keep a way open for the girl to walk through, should she want to get away from him, but shielded her from being further jostled by the crowd with his arm.

"Pardon my advantage, but this group seems to have no care for knocking people on their ends." He said to the girl. "It is not your fault, nor mine if they are inconsiderate of their passage." He responded to her apology as they made their way finally through the gate and into the decorated quidditch pitch.

One thing Yasha did have to say for the Hogwarts ball planners was that they always presented a beautifully decorated ball, no matter the wreckage it always ended up as at the end. The array of flowers, with their delicate scents filling the air. The food was always carefully selected and added to the aroma and atmosphere of the glittering lights. Overall even he could admit that it was a beautiful ball, even though he would generally rather be as far from it as possible given the propensity towards disaster.

Once he and the girl were clear of the crowd, he gave a slight bow to her and a proper look. She was a taller girl with nicely done brown hair, a silver cat mask, a glittering navy dress, and sparkling jewelry of diamonds and sapphires. She pulled the look together rather nicely and it seemed to fit her. "I hope you didn't get too disarranged in the crowd and as I'm sure a girl lovely as you has a partner to get to, I hope you have a good time tonight." He said, dipping into another polite bow.

Fully leaving the Quidditch Pitch, Mateo and his friends made their way over to where the actual ball is. When they arrived at the Quidditch Stadium, all Mateo saw was a beautiful scenery of flowers, as well as a arch way which he entered through.

He also saw a sign, but he was already wearing his mask so he didn't pay any attention to the mask, and neither did his friends.

Mateo walked fully into the ball and saw a dance floor which he'll most likely be dancing on later. So far, there were only a few people at the ball, but Mateo found an empty table and sat down with his friends.

Mateo now hoped that his date will actually show up. While looking for clues to find the key to the actual ball entrance, Mateo's date didn't show, but he's hopeful that she will show, hopefully.

And perhaps, maybe while he's here he could make some friends from other schools since he doesn't have that many, but he'll just have to see.

Also, maybe during the ball he could also befriend the boy whom might be Tracey's boyfriend? Since Mateo is childhood friends with Tracey, he knew he should at least talk to Klynn, and maybe become his friend.

Mateo was lost in thought, he didn't even notice his childhood friend enter the ball, until he heard her voice, which dragged him out of his thoughts.

Matthew's first ball of Hogwarts was not exactly off to the smoothest of starts, however, that was no excuse to let it continue that way. So guiding Rowan forward towards the entrance he said "It would be my honour to escort you into your first ball!" a bright smile filling his face as he soaked in the sight of her. She looked magical.

The decorations that adorned the Quidditch Stadium were utterly breath taking and as he entered through the Loire archway interlaced with the most beautiful ivy garlands he couldn't help but lose himself in the natural beauty of the place. Staring up he didn't notice as the binding of his mask came loose and falling to the ground he proceeded walking straight onto it.

With a distinct snapping sound he looked to the ground and tears began to fill his eyes as he saw the pieces of his broken mask under his foot. This day was surely an ill omen, the shattered pieces representing his own feelings on being broken. Was there truly nothing he could do right. Bending low to pick it up he felt the strain against his suit trouser pockets and feeling behind him his mind flashed with the memory of unwrapping his father's gift. The gift that now laid scattered in the fields grounds, ironically the ivy of the match matching the setting perfectly. Matthew had thought it rather strange at the time but when he collected his package from the owlery a secondary mask had been placed inside. Starting to draw his wand he considered simply using the mending charm to fix the mask but something within him instead moved his hand to his other pocket and held the second mask in his hand.

There was something about this silver mask that felt different, almost magical in nature and even though the one he was wearing matched his attire perfectly he couldn't deny his draw to this one, he supposed that was why he had brought it in the first place. Twirling it around in his hands he turned to the hung sign and reading the words aloud 'No mask, no entry, we decree' he raised it to his face and fastened it. Much like his original mask it fit him perfectly, so he supposed it must be an inspiration of his father's creative mind. There was an intricate carving to the silver that suited him greatly and the elongated nose reminded him of the kind of fairy-tale magical creatures he grew up with in stories.

Tightening the mask to prevent further mistakes he caught up to Rowan and continued to walk her into their first ball worry filling his mind about the evening that had already gone so wrong before it had even begun. Have hope the thought circling his head over and over again though the belief never really landing. Right before he took her arm he held his ring and felt the calm from it wash over him, surely nothing more could go wrong.
Action: Replacing his mask with the 'Scary Mask' that had been mailed to him along with his father's, then entering with Rowan.

Kaya felt the boy's careful touch and surprisingly, it didn't bother her. It had quite opposite effect, she appreciated the gesture, deciding to move staying close to him. She was still glad that all the clues finally finished. Kaya didn't know how long it took for them, neither she was really interested in this information, but it felt like it was long.

Once they entered the ball, she had to admit it was impressive. Surely ball organizers did their best, as expected. Nevermind the most likely mess it will turn to at the end. The smells in the air, mixed from flowers and food, were giving nice atmosphere. She glanced around, not really hurrying anywhere certain. There was no reason for rush as she didn't want to get in the crowd again.

I appreciate your help. Kaya smiled, giving now more thorough look at the guy. She got curious about his eyes, but decided it wouldn't be polite to ask about it. Moreover, she could easily get misunderstood and she didn't want to do it. But for a quick second, Kaya found herself hoping that he will be her ball partner. There was something that made her wish to know him more. Getting back from these sudden thoughts, she quickly glanced at herself, and satisfied she could actually save the way she looked till now, returned her attention to him. Kaya didn't really care about her outfit or her hair, but it was a ball and so she had to keep herself look not disarranged. Thank you. However, I don't have a partner. Balls here are always unpredictable. She smiled politely, while catching herself keeping her curious eyes on his mask. Realizing she probably looked like she was staring, Kaya decided to voice her curiosity. Your mask looks astonishing. As well as whole his outfit, if she would continue her sentence.

Just for a second she thought to ask if he had a partner, but decided to not do it. He would probably react someway that she's without a partner, and if not, she'd ask later.

"Not a problem, devushka. It seems that even those of Durmstrang leave their manners on the boat when they come to Hogwarts these days." He said. After he said it, it crossed his mind that that might be an offensive remark to a Hogwarts students, but it was only a flash of a consideration. Although his father had insisted he come here to make friends, that didn't mean he had to actually make any and Hogwarts had yet to provide him a better view than he had previously seen. "A Koldovstoretz student knows where his hat belongs, so to speak."

As he righted himself back to a fully standing position from his bow, the girl commented on her lack of partner and the unpredictability of the Hogwarts balls. Yasha nodded sympathetically. "That is a shame. Frankly, I have avoided the last couple of balls because of that unpredictability, but I have been pressured to at least mark my presence here for a moment." He said with a kind of exasperated shrug. Well, maybe the ball would be more interesting if he at least had someone to walk around it with and chatter. For his first ball, his father had arranged a date for him and that had ended in the girl not even coming out of her cabin to tell him she didn't want to go any more. His father had been deeply offended and relations with her family were still quite tense at the moment, though not fully broken. The Russian purebloods really couldn't go completely burning too many bridges or there would really be none of them left.

Yasha broke from his thought process as the girl complemented his mask and Yasha raised a hand to touch the nose of it as if he had forgotten he was wearing a mask at all. "Ah. Thank you very much, devushka. I think your whole outfit complements you quite nicely. It was well chosen." He complemented back to her, gesturing grandly to her whole outfit from her mask to her shoes.

"Since both of us are for a lack of a date and unpredictability is always better with an ally, would you like to spend at least part of it together? Enough for some refreshments and a dance?" He asked, bowing a little again and offering her his left arm.

He wasn't particularly in need of a partner, as once again his plan had been to basically make his face seen and skedaddle, but something in him felt like he couldn't leave a lady alone on the grass like this. Maybe they would happen upon some of her friends in their tour of the party and he could leave her with them, but it felt awfully sad somehow to leave a girl all dressed up as she was all alone.

Thoughts
Anemones, apparently, had not been needed, as the second Mahlioz had asked Irina what they looked like, she'd found a box in the rosebushes. Another clue came blasting out, along with candy that Mahlioz would have gladly tried (and disliked immensely, what with their tricks and pranks) if only chaos hadn't struck. First a flower bouquet exploded, which attracted a bunch of bees, which were soon turned half into doves and half trapped in... bubbles? Mahlioz knew how crazy Hogwarts balls could get, but it seemed the world thought she needed a reminder. And she'd lost Irina in the process!

All of this meant she was rather thankful when she saw her sparkly gold and green friend show up calling her name, and even more so when a howler informed them the gates had finally been opened. Gripping Irina's hand just in case Fate was getting ideas to seperate them again, Mahlioz and their best friend escaped from the chaos and made it into the ball. Thank the stars. On the way out, they thought they might have noticed someone... digging up dirt? They weren't sure, but they were in the ball now, so no matter.

There weren't all that many people here yet. That meant it would be a short while before the craziness leaked into the stadium from the training pitch. A few minutes of peace. Mahlioz would be taking advantage of them.
Everything was magnificent beyond the archway letting them in. Flowers and trees and plants lit the place up in color, and Mahlioz just stood there a few moments, catching her breath. Before she burst out laughing. "Oh my gods, we made it. I was so worried I'd lost you!" Irina was clearly buzzing with excitement (unsurprisingly), but Mahlioz was just happy they were finally here. And alive. And not attacked by bees.

It was then that she noticed all the food and drinks laid out, along with the dance floor and the tables. They turned to their best friend, grinning and still holding her hand. "You hungry?"

Entering the ball with @Nikolai Volkov @Matthew Campbell. Open to any other interactions!
Viva was not expected to be chased after. Not that chasing was exactly what Nikolai was doing, however. More like elegantly walking after. Yes, that was it. She raised her head up from searching the bush, tears threatening to spill as she pretended she was fine. Why was he here? Why was he being so nice? Goodness, she had just met the boy. Blinking back the tears, she turned to face the blonde boy with a small sniff, trying to pull herself back together. It was just too much when he held out the handkerchief. Viva buried her face in her palms and cried. Not a lot, or for too long, just a few silent tears and then she raised her brunette head. This was a ball, after all. Her tear-stained face was filled with gratitude for this stranger as she took his handkerchief and dabbed it under her eyes.

He knew the feeling, too? Viva was immediately curious, despite everything. She was always asking questions, and was now filled with a desire to learn more about this boy. "I'm sorry," she said quietly, her voice cracking slightly. She wondered how she hadn't noticed the kindness in Nikolai's eyes when they had been introduced. He seemed so cold and stiff on the outside. She blinked, confused, handkerchief crumpled in her hand as he offered her his hand. He was willing to walk with her to the ball, and then dance with her? Immediately she stiffened. Viva didn't want his pity. She might have been a sniffling, crying mess, but she had too much pride to allow him to be nice just because he felt sorry for her. She blinked, not quite sure what to do. Trying to make herself relax, Viva swallowed and took a deep breath. Clutching the handkerchief in one hand, she gently placed her other hand in his. "Thank you." Those two small words were all she could say at that moment, and she hoped they were enough. She was going to hope he wasn't just doing this out of pity. He seemed like a gentleman, but one could never fully tell. She managed a small smile, like the sun peeping out from behind the clouds after a week of rain. Viva held her head high, and began to walk through the gates with Nikolai.

Brookline stood in awe as she saw the key turn into the lock, she wouldn't of thought she would be the one find the key. But she shook herself, trying to forget the moment, tried to walk forwards, having trouble with the large amount of students in her way.

As Brookline walked she saw a boy in a dark blue suit @Anthony Kingsmage her age, she didn't know him but she had seen him in the Ravenclaw common room at least once or twice, his dark brown hair, his brown eyes, and his black glasses stood out from the bright pink hues and rays from the pretty cheery blossom trees. Everyone entering the ball started soicalizing. Brookline thought the boy would be a good person to socialize with but wondered if the boy would. She walked closer then stopped herself, the boy was by the wicker tables with wicker cushions, eating some crackers from what she could see.

Brookline stood there, wondering what in the world she would do. She then saw a short brown haired boy
Mateo Yamamoto @Tracey Bailey walk in with his friends, she hadn't seen him before, she wondered if this boy was from a different school. She couldn't see his face because he had a black mask on, so she flitted her eyes to somewhere else.

Brookline saw a girl Kaya Rose Bennett@Linda Ramirez walking in with a boy. The girl looked very glamorous with her long dark blue dress with long blue nails. Brookline could see even with the mask the girl had on, that the girl was taking.

Brookline shifted her gaze to the beautiful apple trees, and decided to sit down. She went to the nearest table with a white cushion on the chair, sat down, cradled her cheek in her soft hand and watched the rest of the students trickle in.

As Brookline did, she saw a girl @Genevieve Delacourtwalk in with a long pink dress, and a pink mask, she couldn't register who the girl was. The girl was walking with a boy Brookline had never seen before, but it looked like the girl and the boy had knew each other for a long time.

Brookline watched the ball with great interest but couldn't wait til it was over. She had never felt comfortable at ball parties, they always felt weird to her but she only went because everyone did.
