To add to the pressure of her first race, it was freezing. Already crowds were gathering. Julia could already imagine it- her flying, flying, flying, then BAM-
"Julia Jenkins knocked out by the Womping Willow!"
Her spiralling was interrupted by Della speaking. From their few practices, Julia had gained a respect for both her captain and co-captain so she listened when she heard her name.
Reacting to Della's words, Julia set her jaw, pushing the worries out of her mind. Della was right- they'd practised this, she could do this.

Linda liked flying very much. And now she was preparing for her first broom racing. If she would say she wasn't a little bit nervous, it would be a lie. Linda never tried to participate in this before.

Despite Gryffindor winning the first broom race of the 2023/2024 academic year, Maverick Castle was not crazy about jumping back on his trusted broom and competing again. Really, there was no such glory in his house claiming more points in said race. He himself did not cross the finishing line first and he also embarrassed himself in front of all the audience, so what was the point of having Gryffindor being declared the winner?
One might say that what was done was done, but the second year did not think so. It would certainly repeat again today, with his teammates favouring Alptraum, or perhaps Barfield or Fang, to win instead of him. They would make him do things he did not want for the sake of house glory, not his personal glory. Maybe he should not have joined the team at all.
Thicker clouds loomed over his already-sour face when he caught the glimpse of a certain redhead: Linda Ramirez, now also a part of the team. From their first semester in Flying class, it was clear for Maverick that Ramirez was going to be a difficult partner to fly with. As long as he could recall, the two had been headbutting and competing heavily, both desperately wanted to be known as the best pilot of their year. The part-Veela viewed her as a too-stiff rule follower, and he bet she considered him too wild and reckless.

But while two racers shot up above the track, most of the action was happening closer to the ground. Rocks were thrown left and right (none of which hit their mark). It took a few second glances to realise that Xailah had lost her wand. "And tough luck for Gryffindor's Xailah Alptraum! Looks like she's wandless."

The Hufflepuff followed three racers that kept flying past even as the rest slowed down. Despite it being winter still, the water hadn't frozen and people could fly right through it. She checked earlier! But the water was still ice cold to the touch; her hands practically went numb after putting her hand under the waterfall.

Clair cursed under her breath, she hated when spells failed. Accio was not a hard spell, she had learned the spell a year early yet she had still messed it up. Oh well, she would do better next time. She made a mental note to practice the spell more, it had been a while since she had last practiced the spell, a little too long.

Once the racing started Linda felt like too much things happened so fast. It all still was quite new for her and she felt a bit relaxed that she still was doing alright in the beginning of it.
Surely she would be happy to come as close to finish as possible, but as it was her first time, she was simply going to see how far she could come, hopefully helping her teammates as much as she could.
Linda heard that Maverick was knocked off the broom and sincerely hoped he was still alright. Their first meeting resulted in her becoming angry and sad with him, but she didn't feel any enmity to him since that day.
She didn't want to distract too much, so Linda tried to listen and see how her other teammates were doing. She felt sad that Xailah was knocked out as well, but Linda believed everything was going to be good.

Round 1 had gone exactly according to plan, dismantling a wand, and knocking down a few players off their brooms. Kyle watched from the safety of his broom although he wish he could've done more than zoom on his broom he was at the mercy of a school broom and the benefits of it weren't much also it wouldn't hurt if he learned a few more spells. Kyle does now have a silver arrow broom generously gifted to him by his team which he will use in the next race. His teammates had gone with a bang so hopefully the would all be able to maintain this energy.RACE INFORMATION

Paige was surprised at how many people had already been knocked off their brooms. She flinched at the thought of tumbling to the ground.
However, she had been ascended into the air and was now hovering above the track, barely able to see below because of the snow on her glasses. Paige glared at Gryffindor's co-captain, who had joined her in the sky. Fear grew over Paige's face. This was her very first race, she had no clue what she was going to do!
Staring ahead of her, Paige gripped her broom and, taking one look back, zoomed off.

While the start of a race didn't always entail how the rest of it would play out; it would always be a little frustrating when plans went awry right off the bat. Well, maybe frustrating wasn't the right word. Tedious? Yes, tedious would have to do. Although she could not speak for her team, Xailah could claim in confidence that she wasn't the slightest bit miffed at how the cards had been dealt. She delighted in a challenge and could appreciate when the opposing team put up a fight. She reveled in having her foundation rocked.
... Most of the time.
Even when she felt a sharp jolt from behind- that would effectively loosen her grip from Delta, resulting in an unfortunate topple- her gratification remained unwavering. Just before she fell, she turned to get a look at her perpetrator, surprised to find it had been none other than Aurora Ranvier. And to think she considered the girl a comrade once upon a mock race ago. Oh the betrayal!
Ah, well, all was fair in love and war. On the ground, Xailah regained her footing swiftly, and called up to the vibrant Ravenclaw racer. "I hope that was just a miscalculation in your steering, miss Ranvier." While mostly delivered in playful jest, there was an underlaying of warning. "I'll be sure to return the favor once I-" Just as she was about to finish the bit, she felt her wand yank itself from its holster. Oop- oh- and there it went. "-Get my wand back."

Julia couldn't believe she'd made it as she stared around her. Seeing Maverick and Xailah already knocked off their brooms, Xailah without even her wand, was much different than seeing it on the sidelines. Julia cursed as her rock missed Kyle, one of the Ravenclaw racers, but ultimately wasn't surprised- there was a reason she was a broom racer and not a chaser. Despite her thoughts, she focussed back on the race, ready for her next action.
