PERSONALITY ● GOALS ● HISTORY ● FIOM
Meluna is a sweet girl, humbled during her younger years with her mother. She has a likeness for animals and enjoys chatting about anything related to Mythical Creatures. Meluna is a determined girl, aiming to please her superiors doing almost anything. She has a nasty habit of utilizing manipulative tactics to get what she wants but she does try to make it worth while. Meluna doesn't seek popularity but she does seek out acknowledgement for the good deeds she does. Meluna spends a lot of her time reading books about Aurors. Something about their sense of justice brings Meluna a peace she didn't feel she had when her parents divorced. She also enjoys walks in the wilderness and won't miss a chance to learn something about Mythical Creatures.

Her goals in life are to become an Auror like her father. Her sought career path is to enter into a duelist club for her house so that she may better her defense and offensive skills as well as utilize potion making and jinxes for traps. Meluna had read about those that turn into animals; she had a fascination with wolves in particular. She will make connections to better advance herself into her goals and currently does not wish to be close to anyone in order to keep herself focused. She will need encouragement throughout this process. Her life at home has left her believing she is alone.

Meluna grew up in two households. Before her parents divorce, they lived in a moderate home in the States when her mother worked a day job as a store clerk and her father studied for his work-at the time- which Meluna had been told was a secret and they wouldn't let her in on the truth. Between the ages of 4-6 years old, her parents seemed to fight on the subject of her fathers work and the only things Meluna could understand were "Secret service" and "odd jobs" so Meluna came up with her own explanation: Her father volunteered and he just didn't want her to know about it. When her parents divorced, Meluna was distraught on the idea that her father planned to move out to Stirling, Scotland. As a keepsake, her father gifted her a Raven whistle which he placed around her neck before he left her and her mother to fend for themselves. It become a trade off-Summers with her father and muggle-school months with her mother. Her mother kept her on track with her grades, they spent time together, even, unlike time with her father. When she was with her father, he rarely paid much attention to her. They would see each other in the morning and he would kiss her head goodbye before leaving to go to work. He lived in a small house, smaller than her home in the states. What she liked however was the open countryside. Her father kept a few horses that Meluna rode in the open pastures while her father was away and took care of them when he didn't return home for a few nights at a time. Time with her horses allowed her to come to a realization that she loved animals. She didn't have dogs or cats at home but she always thought it peculiar that an owl lived in the barn but she was sure it wasn't a Barn Owl species. Her father explained that he had tamed the bird and nursed him to health. He's remained around the barn since then. Coming and going when he pleased.

At age ten, during an evening when her father has come home and Meluna had put a pot of water on the stove to make soup for the two of them, they had plunged neck deep into an argument about her fathers work. Meluna had called her mother hours before and she had taken her mothers advice to pry at her father for details of his work. She had sat down at the table with a cup of chamomile tea and she gripped the cup furiously as she yelled at her father, cursing him and screaming that he explain his long time secrets. What secrets could be so important that he needed to keep it from her. She had found books in his closet that day that she didn't understand and pictures of people she had never met. Why...why keep her in the dark. During such an argument, Meluna only seemed to remember spewing how much she hated him and his eyes glanced down at her hands gripping the teacup. When she noticed his eyes widen after the last thing she had told him was that she wanted to go home to her mother, the last thing she expected to see was a hot pink, slightly misshapen teacup in her hands with boiling liquid. They stared at the teacup for a long while before her father managed a few quiet words. "I need to call your mother." Something he never said because he always told Meluna she needed to call her mother. Meluna sat in her seat holding the misshapen cup as her father called her mother to explain things. She didn't know how to feel and what to do. Father seemed so calm when he sat down with her after he hung up the phone. "It's time you know." He said and began to explain.

MELUNAS FAMILY
The Lonely Raven
Meluna was raised as an only child in Seattle, Michigan. Her mother, Katrina Ravenwisp, raised Meluna mostly on her own while Caelan Ravenwisp, her father remained away on business. Melunas early childhood consisted of a strict schedule. Her mother needed to work to keep food on the table and kept a day job as a store clerk. Meluna was sent to a daycare that left little money left for them until her father returned temporarily to help pay the bills. From age one to age four, it seemed to be the norm that her mother would go to work and her father came and went. When her father was around, the family saved up enough to catch up on bills before he left again. Melunas remembers hearing the shouts and screams when her parents fought.

The fights seemed to be a normal part of Melunas life as the events seemed to repeat. Meluna needed to find an outlet, something that her mother would allow. She had found friends in the city who taught Meluna the girlish things young girls seemed to do together. Makeup, nails, hair. She found a style she liked that seemed to be not quite gothic and not quite a goody-two-shoes. She respected her mother, but Meluna had asked for such things and her mother obliged, to her surprise, without question. When her father returned, he seemed unmoved by her choice of style, but seemed to keep an eye on her when he came to visit. They penned each other when he was away. At least she tried to. She would wait months to hear from him. A late birthday card. An apology for being late to Christmas Dinner. Promises seemed to fade from hope to hollowed words as Meluna reached age six. She had been on summer break and her father had come back to visit for a while. Two weeks, he promised.

"You need to be around for your daughter, Caulum. She is growing up and you're missing it. You don't have to leave again...."
"I can't stay...this isn't muggle television, Katrina..."
"Don't use that word...I'm human, Caelum...And so is your daughter..."
"We won't know until...it doesn't happen at the same time as others...she's young now but that doesn't mean..."
"No! She's human!"

Crashing and screaming brought Meluna from her bed that night and down the stairs to the kitchen. She stopped in the doorway in to see her mother sitting on the floor, head in hand, her father looming over her, his face twisted in frustration and grief. A broken mug must of fallen from the counter. Her parents loved each other. Her mother always reminisced in the good times they had together when he was away. Her mother wouldn't ever explain. "Important work." "He promised he can't say anything." Something about her fathers job had changed them both. Meluna wasn't old enough to grasp what it could be. Tonight left her mother tired. Her mother sucked in a shaky breath before uttering the words that would change Melunas life. "I want a divorce, Caelum."

Things seemed to move more quickly. Her father left a week early that summer. At the door, he gave Meluna her Raven Whistle. "I made this for you." He placed the gift around her neck. Meluna gripped the whistle, her younger self not wanting her father to leave. She still hadn't come to understand why her father needed to leave. Her mother refused to tell her much more than his job not being appropriate to raise her. He'd broken promises and he never seemed to be around. She felt like she barely knew him but she still kept the good memories that battled the bad ones. "Your mother said you can visit me in summer." That sad smile. A tight hug as she still clung to her new present. Then he was gone.
Broken Ties have one Lie
Life between her two parents left Meluna in shambles before she had discorvered her First Instance of Magic. She spent her from age six to age ten, Meluna spent school months with her monther. She kept Meluna on track with her grades and she made a few friends as well. She kept the house tidy when her mother was at work. She had a neighbor check up on Meluna periodically. She didnt want any other relatives involved. Because of her sheltered home life, Meluna took advantage of the things she learned in school and kept up in her reading so that she didnt feel clueless about the outside world. She wrote to her father when she wanted to tell him about her acheivements at school. Her mother had insisted she not bother with it, but Meluna still wanted something from her father, even a late letter. The day one came in, it lit Melunas face so much, that her mother left her to her own devices. "You'll learn one day." She had said to her on her 9th year. She had received a letter from her father, a late Valentines card. Meluna added the card to a box she kept under her bed.

Memories come and go. The day her father left remains a memory that floated in and out not matter how much she tried to pretend that the divorce had no affect on her. Her father had bought a few horses that he taught her how to care for and ride; that was her fathers way of coping. Her mother sank into her work days. She moved up in her work at the grocery store from Clerk to shift supervisor then manager. Eventually, she owned the store. Meluna would did her homework in the back room where the employees took their breaks. The truth was that Meluna did live two lives. The lie is she didn't want to know that things were different from the happier memories when her parents were together with her. What brought them together was Meluna and she would hold the lie that her fathers work hadn't truly made them separate but more so that he loved her more than anything to leave them on their own. Child support and all. The only way Meluna broke the lie was when she experienced her FIOM.
Fact from Fiction
Meluna had known nothing more than the vague and passive presence of her father over the years. He came and went for his "odd jobs". The little time she did spend with him left little opportunity to learn about him. A strange, he was. Mother wouldn't tell her much other than what her father was when he was around. A man of respect, stoic, void of any care to a child. her interactions left her thinking that her father didn't know what to do with her but there was one thing he did share with her that Meluna had something to look forward to. He would tell her stories of fantasy. Princesses, castles, dragons and goblins and witches. Sometimes, when he would visit, he would bring a book with him that he would read to her. One in particular was called "The Princess of Castles". This particular book took Meluna to places she only dreamed of as her father actually wrote them in the moment. It was his talent. He would write the story in his book bound in leather with a rose clasp. He let her carry it around when she was little. He let her keep it after a few visits. He said he would write a new story when he came to visit after the divorce. Unfortunately, mother burned the book in anger, an attempt to rid the house of memory of her father. When she told her father, he seemed broken and the awkwardness seemed to grow after that. Respectable, but his pride had been burned away.

When Meluna visited over the summer with her father, she would look for books to read to pass the time. She had gone into her fathers closet to search for anything worth her while. He kept a small bookcase there, something she had realized after he had left it open once when he left for work in a rush. Old novels, he called them. The spines left Meluna curious. They reminded her of the book he'd been writing her and she wanted to read more of his work. What she found in the first book she opened seemed to be a book of ingredients Meluna didn't know existed? Maybe they were notes for his fairy tales. She knew what a potion was. She didn't think he made his own concoctions, but she had watched "Halloween Town" and the potion book reminded her the children in that movie needed to make some odd stew too. Another book she found, a favorite that she read many times, "Care and Keeping of Magical Creatures". The unicorns, Phoenix, Centaurs, all fascinated her. Even other creatures seemed off, but Meluna associated them with animals she knew and assumed her father must have used them as inspiration for his book. The books had an interesting penmanship she didn't know from books she read at her mothers. Even the picture seemed to be hand-drawn. Her suspitions grew when she came across an old letter in a box. "Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wzardry. " She laighed at first. Her father must have taken drama classes as well. Throughout the rest of the day however, she came to a stark realization. Could it be true? That night at dinner, Meluna had taken to starting a pot of water for tea. Her father had returned from one of his trips. He left his suit cases in the livingroom. She was staring at them from her seat at the table. Her father had sat down for tea as well. Finally, she would ask him.

"What is Hogwarts?" She ripped off the bandaid.
He glanced at her around the plate of leftover pasta the neighbors had brought over. "Its a school i went to." He hesitated. "A special school for gifted children."
"Gifted?" Was something wrong with her? Mother had mentioned her father had been...unique.
He put his fork down. "Gifted with abilities.
