Madison smiled back at Avery before continuing across the ice. Thankfully nothing had happened yet to give Madison any alarm, however she kept her wits about her as she glided for a bit longer, doing two pirouettes in between the glides. Ice skating was a way Madison could just forget about her own problems and feel free. Normally, Madison was used to people staring at her quite a bit, she was very beautiful and poised for her age, however here she didn't have all the eyes on her and she smiled to herself, feeling relaxed and calm.
As she watched other people who were on the ice too, she saw her badger bestie Alyssea, prepare to execute a toe loop, a jump that was good to have in your back pocket so to speak. Madison didn't feel like doing any jumps right now, the ice was beginning to get quite crowded, so she skated over to a spot where less people where and took a break there for a bit.
In taking the break, she looked over to Avery Leveret, who was still sitting down, either waiting for the others to part like the sea for him, or for someone to help him. The last time they interacted was at the Yule his family had hosted over the Christmas break, however things had been a little awkward for Madison at that party, family wise that is, but that had not stopped her from enjoying herself that's for sure.
As Madison fixed her cloak and watched the others on the ice, she smiled and watched with interest as a red headed girl she recognised as Astra Norrick, a first year who had also been at the Yule. She was gathering up snow to make snowballs which left Madison wondering who she was planning to throw those snowballs at. I think this is about to get a fair bit more interesting Madison thinks to herself, a watching smile becoming clearer on her lips as she watched to see where the snowballs would land.
As she saw Astra keep preparing the snowballs, Madison also smiled watching her friend Alyssea with a white haired boy that she didn't know, she could only guess that he was older than her and Alyssea.

Quinn realized her mistake as soon as she turned toward Ophelia to wave back. The ice seemed to not want to cooperate with Quinn and Quinn almost went flying into someone else. Her leg shot forward and she almost tumbled onto the icy lake. Using skills she didn't know she had Quinn righted herself and straightened up. Wow-that was surprising. Quinn shook herself off and looked back toward Ophelia.
"Hey Ophelia-how are you?" Quinn asked as she tried not to fall again.
Quinn skated a little toward the edge of the lake. I should try that jump I was working on. Quinn thought. Quinn looked toward Ophelia and hoped that her skating started off better than hers. Maybe a pirouette isn’t the best choice. Quinn thought. Shrugging her shoulders Quinn wondered if Ophelia skated a lot.
"Do you skate often? I haven't in a while." Quinn asked Ophelia. Quinn prepared herself and skated a little faster than necessary then steeling herself and crossing her fingers jumped into a pirouette. Quinn noticed that other girls were starting to throw snowballs at each other. Uh oh. This is going to be very... special. Quinn wondered if the snowballs would work their way over to her. Quinn hoped not.

Believing herself to topple over at any moment, she covered her head with her arms and bent her legs so that she was in a crouch, a much steadier position than standing straight up. Without knowing it, she'd closed her eyes as well.
When she didn't fall over flat on her face, Ophelia slowly opened her eyes and realised that the slight bend in her knees helped her keep her balance. She felt her confidence pick up. She skated closer to Quinn, going faster than she had before. "I'm doing great! How about you?"
As Quinn started skating towards the edges of the lake, Ophelia followed, her newfound confidence keeping her from slowing down. As they skated, Quinn asked, "Do you skate often? I haven't in a while."
Ophelia looked away, not wanting to tell her friend about the embarrassing incident from a few years ago. Instead she shrugged. "Actually, I haven't skated much. This isn't my first time, but I haven't skated much before." Wanting desperately to get away from the subject of her failure, she decided to change the subject. "What do you think they're doing over there with the snowballs?"
Ophelia had noticed the others earlier, but she'd taken them lightly. Now that she saw them, she hoped that it wouldn't be the all-consuming type of drama that she hated, just something that would amuse everyone but leave them all alone at the same time.☽ •----------------------------------------• ☾

Wren almost doubled over in laughter from the boy's comment about her and Lucian which didn't help her balance at all. "Ha, him and I hardly are alike." She chuckled as she walk skated after him before slipping and colliding with him. "Sorry" she mumbled as she struggled to steady herself. It was safe to say that she was embarrassed. Once she had steadied herself she asked the boy her next question "So you do know him, is he as big an arse as he is at home." she muttered.OUTFIT┊ click here

Wren was finally getting the hang of the ice or at least standing on it that is. She noticed a girl she had seen around the Gryffindor common room not to far away from the boy, She had never talked to the girl and she only had one friend in Gryffindor so this was her chance to make some more. She skated over to her still quite wobbly. "Hi" she greeted "You're in Gryffindor, right?" she said smiling brightly at the girl. "You must be an older year since I haven't seen you in any of the classes" she said, she felt a gust of wind blow past her. "Merlin's sake" she said as she turned around to see what it was. The wind turned out to be a girl zooming past her on the way to the center of the lake.

That wasn't too bad, was it? Her entire body may bloody well pay for it later but she might just pull this off, wobbly knees and all.
The tallish girl realised that if she kept her centre of gravity low (never mind that she looked like a constipated octogenarian); her balance seemed to improve, and the tension in her ankles and thighs appeared to diminish slightly. While she cut across the ice, her path meandered slightly to the left, bringing her close to the lakeshore.
A tiny whoop of excitement left the girl's lips, dark hair whipping against her ruddy cheeks. Merlin, this was just as nice as flying and but a lot less death-by-fall-inducing!
While others chatted, the young witch focused on her skating, content to be alone with her thoughts. Why, she ought to have done this sooner! Sage supposed she was busy doing other things like… moping. And it resulted in her being held back by a year - never again. She knew better now, at least, not to drown in her own feelings.
Filled with a newfound verve, the girl grinned, heart a-flutter as she dared to kick a heel backwards in order to gain more momentum. Up ahead, the lake rounded a corner, veering towards the right.
"Here goes nothing."

Ying stood there carefully trying to get her balance. Looking at the lake where several people glided gracefully made it seem simpler than it really was. She felt a little jealous and eager to learn how to look that elegant and well put while wearing skates. It was ironic enough, a girl that managed to find her way with broom racing and skateboards was now struggling with simple boots with blades! "It's just finding the right position..." She thought encouragingly, she wouldn't be defeated on her first try!
"Are you okay Xailah?" Ying asked after a gasp escape her lips witnessing her upper year slip and fall on hard cold ice. She wished she could walk faster on that damn things so she could reach out faster to help her teammate. Even though she tried to focus on her attempt to walk across the snowy ground, Avery's words seemed to have sent a spell through her that made her completely forget what she was trying to accomplish. What did he meant with "Breaking the code of Merlin? What could happen there that he couldn't speak a word of?". At the same time she shot him a sudden look, her ankle seemed to lose the strength to support her weight as she tripped over a root hidden by the snow. "Ouch" She muttered involuntarily as her knee hit the ground, causing her to feel a sharp pain. Instinctively, she quickly rubbed her leg with her hand, to help the pain go away.
"Yeah...very observant of you!" She shortly replied to the dark haired boy who was smiling and clearly mocking her poor display. She sent him a funny, fake smile in response. If thoughts worked as a curse, he would have fallen too! But she wasn't there to be bitter, she was there to have fun, and just as the pain in her knee dissipated, so did her sour ego. “What an introduction. - You two are made for each other!” She heard the boy call again after her. "Clearly you have a natural talent for the bumbling walking on skates! Forgive us if we not share of such grace!" She replied to him, now was her time to give him a short, amused smile and a mocking look.
After straightening up and shaking the snow off her clothes, Ying decided to keep her steady slow pace until finally reaching the frozen lake. Arriving there she felt a wave of awareness and caution mixed with adrenaline, a strange feeling. But she wouldn't back down now, so she repressed that heavy, cold sensation in her stomach and slowly focused on her steps, she walked one foot at a time, arms open and trying to ignore her thoughts that kept telling her that she would fall again making a fool of herself in front of so the others. Heavy wings cut and crossed the sky making her look up following the sound just in time to see it transfigurate into a familiar figure. Pericles was an upperclassman that had moderated one of her unofficial duels, he was a nice person and so, if she actually survived the tricky, slippery ice, she intended to go and greet him. Let's hope her fragile skills don't let her down again!

JUNE SELWYN

────────────────────────────────
Once upon a time, someone referred to June as a "banshee" and a "squeaky kettle", the names the result of the sounds she made as she careened through the air over the Black Lake, hexed out of a tree.
Once upon a time, June made those same noises as she attempted to skate. A girl skated (if it could be called that) right past her, the quick movement frightening the young girl and sending her flailing backward, desperately trying to regain her balance. It was once she was on two feet that she realized she was about to hit someone. She awkwardly angeled herself away, shouting out a "Sorry!" as she passed.
She wasn't sure if that was better than falling.
Perhaps the best place to begin was balance, feeling how weight on each foot changed the trajectory of her direction. Simple movements, June, nothing too crazy. Unaware of a certain ebony-haired snake with his eyes on her, June decided to attempt to stay mostly in place, focused on her every movement.
There wasn't a spell she knew that would help her here, was there? She ran through everything she knew, only finding spells that would be decidedly UNhelpful. If only she had mastered the bravery charm at this point...

As Kaitlyn tried to skate nice and slow, she set off on the ice. Sadly, she managed to veer off course. That wouldn’t be so bad. After all, it was hard to skate in one direction the entire time, anyway. But, what was more of a concern was that she was headed towards an older girl. ‘Oh no,’ she grimaced, bracing for impact. Thankfully, the girl moved out of the way for her. As she passed by, she was thankful for passing by that unscathed. Truthfully speaking, she should really wait for when no one else was on the ice for her to try figure skating on the ice. It looked fun to her.
As Kaitlyn continued to skate slowly, she noticed some of the girls starting to throw snowballs and frowned. She hoped none of them came at her. She was too busy trying not to fall on her rear and to watch for everyone else around her. She noticed a girl around her age (Quinn) skating, looking like she was going to try off a move. She smiled to her and waved. While she was still nervous on the ice, she was glad to be still standing. It gave her a slight increase in confidence. Feeling slightly more comfortable, she began to spin in place on the ice.

@Alec Mason | Novice Ice Skater
When Opeila heard that some students were going to enter the frozen great lake for some skating, she had mixed feelings. A few years ago she had participated in an ice hockey game and spent the majority of it sitting inside the goal she was guarding- if she had been bad then, how bad would she be now, after not skating again since? There had not really been much of an opportunity to practice, so the skates she bought back then had been sitting in her wardrobe and then her trunk for months and months.
So what was it that drove her outside to join her peers that day? Well, mostly the chance to socialize some more. With O.W.L.s getting closer and closer, Opeila had spent a lot of time confined to the library, study room and common room, bent over books and essays. These were important exams she could not mess up. If she wanted to take control, this was the time to make sure she would be able to.
Her running away last summer had been an impulsive step- none she regretted, the letters from Valèrie, Irri, Auline and Vianne warmed her heart every time- but she knew that she had to go back and face the issue, sooner than later. Stand her ground, insist that the arrangement with the Thatchers was terminated.
These were worries that often clouded her mind when she took a break from studying and they did make her feel a bit guilty now, but the Slytherin tried her best to push it away.
Besides, Opeila would need all that focus on the ice. Wearing a dark green wintercoat and a cream coloured woolen scarf wrapped around her neck, arms extended to maintain balance, she carefully stepped onto the ice, swaying dangerously from one side to the other, as she began to slide away from the edge. "Oooh- Okay..." A little embarrassed she would look up at the skaters around her, looking for a face she recognized.

Breathing heavily Alec dropped his ice skates in the snow beside him, putting his hands on his knees as he stopped to catch his breath. Rushing, it seemed to be common theme as of late... Always rushing to get from one class to another, there was never enough time in a day. Course load and classes had become ever-consuming and he'd become so caught up in it as had most other people his age. There was loss in the fact he didn't have the lesuire time he used too, at least if he wanted to do well in classes. It was as if he was parting with a piece of himself in the process of it all; despite his melancholy feelings towards this, he acknowledged it wasn't necessarily a bad thing just different. Maybe the loss of all the time you once had came with the territory of getting older, he wasn't sure. Looking out on to the great lake Alec took a moment to take in the sight of others skating and enjoying themselves. He was surprised he'd found the time to ice skate at all but taking a break felt nice.
It was hard not to feel guilty at his taking the time to ice skate when he had a list of things a thousand times important to do. It was hard to swallow the feeling that he was not being productive enough, that this rare break felt like a waste of valueable time but he did his best. He deserved to have a break... maybe. Kneeling down Alec reached for his skates and began lacing them up. his eyes scouring the lake for familiar faces. All those people on the lake were a busy sight and with so many people skating on the lake it was hard to pick out any faces from the small crowd. Getting up onto his feet Alec pushed himself onto the ice.
Alec was steady on the ice and it was a nice feeling for a change, if not somewhat ironic considering just how clumsy Alec tended to be on land. Though he wasn't talented at ice skating, or a natural by any means Alec moved with an air of ease on the ice. He was comfortable with his abilities to keep his balance and skate smoothly. Alec had only spent a few minutes on the ice when he spotted a familar face. “Opeila! Hey,” he waved a small wave, greeting her. A smile edging at his lips, slowing himself on the ice as he reached her.
Alec allowed himself to slowly glide backward giving Opeila the space she needed as she wobbled on the ice doing her best to balance. All bundled up, her wobble on the ice reminded him of a penguin waddle, which would have been adorable if not for the fact that it looked like it wouldn't take very much for Opeila to lose her balance completely and faceplant into the ice(okay, it was still adorable, but he should probably do something about it).
Reaching out he offered a hand to Opeila. “Do you need a hand?”
Taking a tumble on the ice was more than unpleasant.
