It was pretty clear that unless some mystical being picked him and his broom up and shifted them ahead through the course, Ari wouldn't be the first to cross the finish line. And he wouldn't be beating the tree hugger title any time soon either. It was almost like he hit trees during every race on purpose now. Was it entirely in his control? Not exactly.

Her teammate grabbed the end of her broom and swung it around, sending her flying even faster than she had been going this whole time. She had been doing pretty well this whole time but perhaps it was the glance of seeing Bloom starting to catch up that threw her off track for a mere moment, causing her to slip up. It was a fraction of a second but the distraction had been enough to cause her to find vines start to curl around her body and broom. It was too late. She found herself trapped, caught in the vines that she was confident she should have been able to avoid. How did this happen? She had no idea.

But the panic flickered across her face. Yes, this was "just a race", yes it was "just a game", yes it was "friendly" competition. But that did not change the fact that the badger knew she was about to lose. They were so close to the finish line. She could almost touch it. But of all the people to overtake her, it was Bloom. Bloom was about to cross that line and there was nothing she could do to stop her. Serena Towers had a sense of dread overfill her in an instant. Not because she was going to lose. That was fine, she had lost games before. But what was not fine was that she was about to lose - once again - to Bloom Silverton. That was her issue.
